[Music] hey y'all today i'm going to talk about homeschooling and specifically bob jones university press bju press is the curriculum that we use at our house this is our second year of using it i've done an unboxing plus a review of all three grades third sixth and seventh and so now i'm gonna go over once we get everything in how we get it organized and how it looks like in everyday life i think i showed you our box system when i was going over the bju review but just in case i didn't and now that they're all filled and we have completed a couple of days of school now i'll show you what it looks like when it's working so this is my daughter's caddy and that's all of her markers pens pencils erasers things that she needs her first subject is math and she has this little velcro icon it starts out the day over here she opens up her box there'll be any handouts that she has to do that day plus her textbook she gets that out and goes to her desk and i'm pretty sure that i mentioned this in our haul but this is great it's a notebook of graph paper let me pull it off so you can see a little bit better see how the numbers are lined up there and she's able to keep each row in order so you don't make those mistakes by just putting the number in the wrong spot which we were making often so then she goes to her computer when she sits down at her desk she will begin her lecture video and after the lecture then she'll come over to the table and she will do about two pages is each lesson of her math work when she's done she puts all of her notebooks she puts all of her textbooks and notebooks puts her pencil back away and then she takes her little sticker and moves it over to the right side that shows that she's done and it's ready to be checked and then the next subject will be right here and she'll know to grab that and begin her bible lesson that she already did that the other day and i haven't checked it yet so that's why it's still there so that is one subject and then they go down each one our last subject is reading after each student is done with their last subject then they come to this cabinet or this library book stack it's supposed to be a basket but it kind of spilled over this is an old curio cabinet an antique piece that we had and i didn't put my dishes in so we use it for homeschool storage this shelf up here is all books that are either on the bju reading list or a sunlight list or another great reading list for their age levels for their grade levels and then this is some of mom's extra supplies this shelf right here is curriculum that we have already done and we are going to come back to you with three children coming through i reuse things often or it's something that we haven't gotten to yet and then this section over here is part of their curriculum that they haven't gotten to yet for this year and then our third shelf down here is dictionary of course these are all reference books that they can come find further information on things that they're learning about and this is kind of fun extra learning as well some things that i just have over here if they usually if they tell me they're bored then i send them to this section right here this is my drawer of office supplies extra materials that we might need things that we use throughout the year and it is ridiculously organized now i wish i'd have done a before and after you should have seen this mess it was piled up with garbage and things that we don't use anymore the paper clips and the staples and the rubber bands were all mixed together so now it's easy to find everything and we're able to come and get what we need down in the bottom cabinet is some construction paper some extra notebooks some art paper and scratch paper it's a lot emptier than it was like i said i should have done a before and after but now you just get to see the nice clean pretty after there is a lot of space in here and i like that because throughout the year we seem to just kind of throw things in here and so i like having room to grow with my organization and with my storage first i grab my paper of course your web work tags and then i go over to my computer i go i look at my bar and then as you can see there's a tab called b j u distance learning i tap there log in just like my sister's you go down you look at it my first subject is math so i'm gonna go do that it's math three because i'm grade three and it will show you what you need on the screen it will have like little materials i like my teacher her name is miss overly so i do my lecture i'll go over here get my worksheet you know she has these tabs to keep her please and then i just flip to it once i'm done with my lesson i'll do my work sheets one second and then i go over here to my drawer i mostly put my mat first so my mom can see the worksheet that i've already did and then of course i just move it over and then my next subject's free and then once i'm done then i go do piano practice and then i go over here my special section is right here i'm supposed to read these i'll go over here and go get comfortable somewhere and i'll read it and then i'll say mom and dad she usually testes me when all three kids are done then i come get their carts and i take them each to my computer one by one my son was not interested in showing his schoolwork on camera today but it goes just the same as the other two as my daughter's he goes to the first drawer and then watches his light shirt does his independent work and then puts it back and moves the tab over here's the best part it's on wheels so i roll their card over to my computer and then i log on to my dashboard under their name so this is my son's if i go to logan's dashboard all three have math for their first lesson i choose math first thing in the morning because they're a little bit sharper and it has to has to get done so i check for any um he doesn't usually have any handouts so i usually just grab his book and the graph paper is mostly for them to work out their problems as scratch paper i go to whatever day we're on it shows what pages i should check usually it is marked where i left it with my post-it and i get my red pen ready i'll go through each number and check check check check that he got everything right and if they do if they get the whole page right and there's not any corrections you can't tell whether i checked it or not i grabbed a little stamp with happy face pop it on there so he knows and i know that that has already been checked off then i put his books back into his drawer and i moved that over to let him know and we know that that subject has been checked and i go all the way down and then i go get another one and do the same thing and go all the way down and then i get the third one and go all the way down and do the same thing for especially my older two that are in sixth and seventh grade their tests are online so i just click on that test key and it shows me what grade they got if they got any wrong where they got them wrong what the correct answer was if it's too many then we stop and we go back over them if there's too many that were wrong on one of the worksheets or one of the textbooks then we stop i call them over to my desk and then we go over whatever they missed bju is great about having additional resources so if there's something they really just didn't get then we can go back and do another worksheet go over it together until they get it at the very end then i go over here each child has a binder i will grab the binder and each subject is labeled in order of what their order is not every child has the same subjects um and they're in different orders they all just start with math and so this will show you this is for day six so if it stays six i take this out put it in his drawer i slide them in their drawers on top so that they know there is a handout to do brianna usually has more handout she's in third grade than the older grade these are folders these are individual subjects math bible and english for test the test comes separately brianna has all of her tests on paper so i keep them organized in these folders here is the test site here is the answer key side so when it's time for her to take a test and i do just like the handouts and i take one test out of here put it in her drawer and then when i'm checking her work i'll go grab the answer key and i'll put him in the back after i'm done checking that and then i manually post those grades for her on the online dashboard once again sixth and seventh grade they're tester online and they grade them for me which is so so nice they don't have any paper tests the only thing that i really grade is worksheets out of their textbook or handouts and occasionally they'll have a writing assignment that i will help proofread or i will grade that is our day in the life of homeschooling this system works really well for us as long as we stay organized anytime that we get unorganized that's where things kind of fall apart and so that's where the parts and the drawers come in handy where everybody knows exactly what to do what's expected of them next and they know whether i have checked their work or not and right now i have to go check everybody's work thank you for watching this video i hope it answered some questions for you if you are homeschooling or if you're planning on using bju for your curriculum that i have given you some tips please give this video a thumbs up if you enjoyed my organization tips and make sure
