hi there today's video is on dandelion flower juice and it's health benefits i've divided this video into two parts in part one i'm going to share with you the health benefits of dandelion flowers and why they're even healthier than the leaves and the roots then in part two of this video i'm going to show you how to make the juice and also different ways that you can incorporate dandelion flowers into your diet to me it's so good to know why something is good for you so that you understand the importance of incorporating it into your diet if you haven't subscribed to my channel already please do so by clicking right down here also hit that little bell icon next to the subscribe button that turns on video notifications so that you're notified every time i upload a new video okay part one of this video the health benefits of dandelion flowers now everybody's heard that dandelion greens and the roots are really good for you but you don't hear that much about the flowers well it turns out that there's some science behind the flowers and they may be even healthier than the roots and the greens to me i think the flowers are really underrated here's why dandelion flowers have higher levels of polyphenols than the aerial parts such as its leaves and its roots polyphenols are a natural compound that occur in many fruits vegetables and herbs that have medicinal properties like dandelions polyphenols are a type of potent antioxidant that protect our tissues against toxins and protect our bodies against age-related physical degeneration disease and illness there's actually been tens of thousands of polyphenols recorded but don't worry i'm not going to go through all of them here but let me name just a few that you've probably heard of reservatrol in red wine curcumin in turmeric keratinoids and carrots quercetin and onions lycopene and tomatoes sulfurophane and cauliflower capsule sinoids and chili peppers and well you probably get the picture so bringing it back to the dandelion flower dandelion flowers have been shown to contain 115 times more polyphenols than in the dandelion root now beyond the polyphenols dandelion flowers also contain high amounts of other antioxidants such as vitamins and minerals those are antioxidants a different type than the polyphenol compound the dandelion flour is loaded with vitamins such as vitamin a in the form of beta-carotene now plants vegetables and fruits that have that orange or yellow colored flesh that's an indicator of high levels of beta-carotene dandelion flowers also contain vitamin c vitamin k the b family vitamins and vitamin b12 that's right the flour contains vitamin b12 so adding a couple of these flowers to your diet in the spring when they're in season will help bring you energy not to mention all the other nutrients that will supercharge your body now i'm going to do a little bit of science talk here with you there is a molecule called the hydroxyl molecule this is a free radical that wrecks havoc in the body it damages your dna it damages membrane lipids in your body and also other tissues in your body causing inflammation and as you may know already inflammation is one of the number one root causes of disease and illness compared to the roots stems and leaves of dandelions in an ethyl acetate and water extract of dandelion flowers has shown to provide the most efficient inhibition of the hydroxyl radical the inhibition may be caused by the higher number of polyphenols found within the flowers including the caffeic and the chlorogenic acids and the flavones called luteolin and ludeolin 7-o-glucoside yeesh i know that's a mouthful but in short this molecule is suppressed by the extract of the dandelion flower and inhibits inflammation with all these different types of antioxidants loaded in the dandelion flower it's no wonder dandelion flowers are such a powerful anti-inflammatory research has also shown that dandelion flowers mitigate inflammation like edema a methanolic extract of the flower provides the most significant inhibition 95 percent compared to the leaves at 69 percent the roots at 51 percent dandelion flowers may owe their anti-inflammatory effects to their polyphenols in particular the luteolin and the luteolin 7-o glucoside research suggests that these compounds may down regulate both of these enzymes called nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase both of these involved in the inflammation process dandelion flowers may also act as chemo preventatives okay so what's a chemo preventative in short tumor reduction ethanolic extracts of dandelion flowers have shown to contain anti-tumor progression properties science believes that this may be the cause of the super rich flavonoid compounds in the flower in particular the luteolin compound now the ariel parts of the dandelion such as the leaves included with the flowers both contain high amounts of this anti-tumor progression property so dandelion can play an important complementary role in cancer treatment and as a preventative so with that quick glimpse of the health benefits of dandelion flowers let's move forward into the video into part two how to make the juice it's very important to mention that if you're going to use an eat dandelion you have to get virgin dandelion so make sure you've got clean pristine never sprayed with anything ever dandelions i'm going to pick a large bowl of dandelions to make the juice but in reality you don't need this many dandelion flowers to make the juice and i'll explain that later in the video once you've got your flowers be sure to just rinse them off really quick in the sink to get out any little ants or any other little buggy critters that may have crawled into the flower that you don't see right away i'm not trying to gross you out but i'm being real oh and have no worries if you get some stem in there because the stems are really good for you too the whole plant is now just a side note this is a nama cold pressed juicer which is very different than a centrifugal juicer most people i would think have a centrifugal juicer this one operates much differently and i got it because it produces a higher quality juice and also extracts more juice it can also do things that a centrifugal can't juice for instance like wheat grass wheatgrass if you put it through a centrifugal juicer it'll just blow the grass right out the backside and you won't get an ounce of juice this cold pressed juicer works very differently where you can actually extract a juice from wheatgrass and i'm thinking the same may be for these dandelion flowers so if you have a centrifugal juicer no problem go ahead and give it a try i'm just not sure how much juice you're actually going to get whereas with this cold pressed juicer i know i'm going to get a full glass if you want to learn more about the difference between a centrifugal juicer and a cold pressed juicer like this one and actually see for yourself the insides how they work differently how they extract the juice differently and the quality and the quantity of juice differences between the two you can check out my video right up here in the corner by clicking that card but i'm not going to go any further on the juicer thing i'm going to get in to juicing these dandelion flowers [Music] now typically i wouldn't make a glass of dandelion flour juice this large i made it this size for the sake of this video and the reason why i don't recommend it is because it's very bitter the bitter properties of dandelion is what helped make it such an amazing liver detoxifier and digestive stimulant because it's those bitter properties that stimulate the liver to move it stimulates bile it stimulates digestive enzymes yes those are all really good things but you actually don't need this much of it to do so anywhere from one teaspoon to one tablespoon is plenty so you saw that large bowl of flowers that i came in with to make the juice that was for example purposes you actually don't need a bowl that big of the dandelion flowers for the juice just pick a handful of dandelion flowers and run them through your juicer and that will give you just plenty like i said maybe a tablespoon at most and take it right before you eat don't take this on an empty stomach and then don't eat anything else afterwards because your liver and your bile and your digestive enzymes are going to be moving once it gets stimulated by this dandelion flour juice other ways that you can enjoy dandelion flowers are add just a few to your smoothie if you're doing a fruit smoothie in the morning for your breakfast throw a couple dandelion flower heads in there or you can even make dandelion flower tea now i did a video on dandelion roots and how to make that tea from fresh dandelion roots you can check out the video right up here but dandelion flowers make an excellent tea as well add a little bit of a sweetener in there like a honey or an agave if you enjoy salads chop up some dandelion flowers and sprinkle them on top of your salad you can even find recipes online for dandelion flower soups so you don't just have to do it as a juice there's lots of ways to incorporate dandelion flowers into your diet without the intensity that a juice can create now if you're doing a cleanse or some kind of detox program wow dandelion flowers are definitely going to get things moving but i'm not a doctor so of course consult your health care practitioner if you're interested in seeing some more of my videos like i did this video on picking rose hips how to identify them harvest them make fresh tea out of them and also how to dry them you can check that video out right here i've also got some other videos down here for you and if you would hit that subscribe button right up here if you want to see more of my videos i'd love to have you be a part of my channel i'll catch you next time bye
