say hello to my little friend hey guys Gary J here and today we're looking at one of my favorite pistols as they all wore and this is a dan Wesson and Dan Wesson pistol 357 Magnum now sometimes people get confused and they say well that's the same thing as Smith & Wesson no the big big difference between Smith & Wesson and dan Wesson when we think it was Smith & Wesson we think of Daniel B Wesson and Horace Smith it's a harsh myth and Daniel B Wesson came up with a company an armory of Smith & Wesson about a hundred years later a fellow by the name of Daniel B Wesson ii who was can - Daniel B Wesson of Smith & Wesson where he also worked for Smith & Wesson for a while and decided to create his own gun it's on pistols rifles and shotguns known as the dan Wesson on me so a lot went into the design but he had to make something a little better perhaps than what was out on the market and he started out as a new entrepreneur and making his particular type of pistols rifles and shotguns probably dan Wesson is more known for his pistols than anything else today but it took him a little while to figure out how to how to design and make this particular type of pistol and it's a very unique and one-of-a-kind type design pistol - dan Wesson pistol group so with the dan wesson pistols a fellow by the name of carl lewis which i don't think he gets enough credit he actually designed the interchangeable barrel system of the dan wesson now which means you can put multiple barrel you can put different barrels on the pistols two and a half inch barrel four inch barrel six inch barrel eight inch 10 inch 12 inch 15 inch barrel and you still use the same frame you just change out the barrel so you can have a multiple purposes with that particular barrel the good thing about 357 and he made them in all different types of calibers but the 357 you can shoot the 38 special in it as well as the 357 Magnum so that makes it a little bit versatile it's like having two guns in one now this is one that to me is very it's pretty pretty rare to find one with a barrel this long now this is a 12 inch ruler right here and you see this is longer than 12 inches this is a dan wesson 15 inch barrel and believe it or not I have not chronograph this barrel and I want to do that at some point in time but this is very this is a very unique pistol and so this is a little introduction into the dan Wesson now you may notice the grip on here this is a beautiful grip and this is a special grip made by l.b custom grips and I'll show you that a little bit closer there'll be as a master of making dan wesson grips and he hit me he makes all different ages all different types of woods and different styles and so forth and he's come up with and he is proprietary to dan wesson only he won't make a grip for a Ruger or any other type of gun only dan Wesson now general when you bought a dan Wesson you can get different types of grips here this is zebrawood which is a really beautiful wood one thing about dan wesson was that he always put beautiful grips on his pistols and i think that's very important a lot of times you would get a combat grip like this one for the dan Wesson pistol and you could buy a pakmar dan Wesson grip too and so look at some of the unique features of the dan Wesson pistol now if you're looking at the end of this barrel right here you probably might think you're dreaming but at the end of this barrel right here this is a a tube birdcage flash hider that you might see on a ar-15 or a - so that's what that is when you see this barrel just keeps going and going one thing about dan Wesson to know the gun is unloaded another look at this grip ain't that beautiful beautiful color beautiful would L be used his saw some really beautiful really beautiful wood - on his pistols and all kind of exotic woods but the release for the cylinder here most of them have the release in the back like Smith & Wesson and have different styles but this one right here you pull it down this is to release right here you pull it down now between sister you have interchangeable barrels you can screw the barrel in here and one thing that makes it a gun probably more accurate is if you get the barrel screwed in really close to the cylinder you don't want it touching the cylinder but do you want it really close to the cylinder so what happens is when you're screwing that barrel in it comes with a shim this shim is like ten thousandths of an inch I can't read that on there that one particular but you put the shim in here between the barrel and the cylinder and you screw the barrel down until it hits that shim and then you take the shim out and make sure you can rotate the cylinder easily the smaller this gap is right here the less pressure you're going to lose when you shoot the gun a lot of flames will come out here on all revolvers some have a bigger gap than others so you get more power that way and the barrel is locked up here too okay so now there's a special bushing that we use on this instead of the a two we don't generally use that we use this bushing here okay it's got notches in it which allows us to use a tool in order to get those notches out and I'll show you how this works so listen let's take the barrel off here I'm just screwing this off and that's the way that lug works - just like this right here so this is our a2 birdcage and it's made and you know threaded just for this particular barrel on the 357 now that we've taken that off our barrel will slide off so I'm just going to pull on the barrel this is called the shroud so this part here is called the shroud you can see through it right there so it covers your barrel and you see the the bow is threaded on the end right here and this is where your locking lug would go right here you can put that on the end and screw that down and there's an intention on the end of that shroud that will hold that shroud and push it against the frame of the gun now what that does is it makes it more accurate because the barrel is actually locked down at the top here with this lug is and it's locked down into the frame here because it's screwed into the frame now we unscrew this barrel it only takes a minute and a half probably to change out this bar if you're not doing on-camera when you see the threads there on that so now this is what you have and so that's what you have right there okay now let's put this Barrel on here this is a little a 6-inch barrel and we put this one on here and what you do here is push this out see it's got your locking lug here on the end you pull the locking lug out and now you want to stick the barrel in here line it up carefully you don't want to cross thread it and screw this in not normally what I did just screw this all we took it touches the cylinder and these are pretty fine threads right here you see the gap right here alright if I start screwing this in you can see that gap starting to close up okay it's against the cylinder now now I want to unscrew it just a little bit and now I'm going to take my shim and stick that in here okay like that now I'm going to screw this barrel against that shim very lightly okay I'm making contact with that shim that's a ten thousandth of an inch shim so now I'm going to pull this [ __ ] out and I'm gonna pull the hammer back and make sure it's not not locking up okay now that's about where that needs to be I'm gonna hold the barrel right here normally I don't have this on here just for showing you how that works now we take our Stroud see it's empty and this piece right here will go into well where there's a little pin right here this little pin right here where my thumb is it locks into a little hole right here there's a little hole right there it will lock into that that'll keep it from Pena Lading okay now that pin locks in right here and you got this is your ejector right here okay so that's locked into place now now if you turn it upside down this shroud will fall off and hit the floor so you don't want to do that now we take our lug make sure those cutouts or on top so please you can see that okay there's two notches one here and one here so we take that and rotate that on the barrel oK we've got that started on the barrel now this is our multi-tool right here we take that and stick that in the barrel and turn it and took locks into those two notches and then we start turning this around and now I feel it tightening up you don't want to put a death grip on that or anything but you want it snug and take this off now you've got this Barrel on here now pull it back a little bit and you can rotate the cylinder easy and you can hardly see a gap between the barrel and the cylinder which means you're gonna have more power with this gun because it from the fact that most of them have a certain gap in there and a lot of those gases blow out again if the barrel is is locked in here in the frame and it's locked in here at this leg which helps to make this a more accurate pistol okay so now if we look at it and we take care of the barrel you see the big difference in you see there's a big difference in the size they're on so no that's a 8 inch barrel that's the 8 inch barrel and here's another barrel and that barrel would be 3 and 1/2 on the shroud there instead you get multiple barrels for these right here you know this would be the birth of that so this is just kind of one of the unique designs of the dan Wesson another thing about dan wesson was to that looking at this multi-tool right here it does everything that you really needed to do this part right here on the multi - let me get that in focus this right here allows you and I'll just use this [Music] you see this hole right here this allows you to take this and stick it in this hole right here and to loosen this screw in here which allows you to pull this sight off in here we have some different sights here that you can use if you don't want to use a red sight you can use a yellow site in get this back and focus all right there you know you can use a yellow site here you don't want to use yellow site then you can use white site you don't want to use the white site then you can use a silhouette type site or steel site so you can interchange the front sites depending on the time of day the light and all of that it makes a difference depending what the light is outside and this hole right here remember this is the little pinhole that holds the shroud which this is the surround to the frame so it doesn't rotate and okay you dan wesson grip right here has a screw in here and say like the other one here and you just unscrew that boat access the boat you unscrew that boat with your multi-tool here this end right here unscrew that boat stick that in here and this comes right off and you don't have screws in here to take away from the beauty of the grip which is nice it only takes a second to a minute you know 30 seconds to take this off and put on another grip whichever one you want so that's kind of the beauty of the dan wesson so if you're looking but looking at this too you'll notice that looking at the dan wesson this is actually a beautiful beautiful pistol and because if you look at the bluing on it and this business probably 1982 maybe this pistol has a dark beautiful bluing to it incredible bluing real expensive premier grade bluing and that's the way all the damn whistles missiles came this beautiful bluey just beautiful aesthetic design again your latches right here for opening the cylinder and a beautiful grip like the zebra grips for your dan Wesson and the interchangeable front sights and on the rear sight if you're adjusting your rear sight you would use your multi - - and the end of this multi - will go inside here and allow you to just the rear sight as well so just a brief summary and this has been ventilated rib here on top here so we can go from a two and a half to four inch barrel six then it's a two inch 12 inch 15 inch barrels for these pistols on the model 15 guys - we can we can get all different types of grips for them as well and we can adjust the sight here the rear sight remove the front sight all using and multi-tool here and remove the grips with our multi-tool and so we have everything that we really need and using our sim here about ten thousand seven inch we can put our Barrel in here as tight as we want to at least ten thousandths of an inch and they're going to be more powerful it's more accurate a lot of times because the barrel itself is seated here firmly and up here at the end firmly - and again it's just a beautiful pistol beautiful presentation type bluing beautiful grips just unique design and you can see right here just locking lugs these points right here is where you're a multi-tool goes in it's got those notches on the multi-tool that goes in here and you just turn it until it drops so it only takes once you do this a couple of times only takes you about a minute to change out of a barrel to whatever size barrel you want and to adjust it after you shoot it a few times you want to check your gap here and you might have to tighten it down just a tad after you're shooting it for a little bit just to make sure but this is the beauty of dan wesson they have a lot of different types of dan wesson they made dan wesson in a case as well with the barrel with a two and a half four six and eight inch barrel too in the 445 super mags in 375 super mag and 357 super mags and 44 magnums though they're just a bunch of pistols 41 caliber we just wanted to show you that
