Ever since I saw the first cutscene of the Luofu
storyline, I was very excited to know more about Dan Heng's past. As we progressed through the story
of the Luofu, many questions have been answered, and... many more have arisen. Who is Imbibitor Lunae?
What "sin" did Dan Feng commit? Why is Blade so mad all the time? Who is Bailu? Is Imbibitor Lunae
the same person as... Cold Dragon Young? With the dawn of patch 1.3, some of these questions got
answered. Not directly... mind you, but HoYo gave us some hints at what happened. With that in mind,
I took it upon myself to dig as deep as I could and present you with a video, to shed some light on
the mysterious past of Inbibitor Lunae and Dan Heng. To understand who Inbibitor Lunae is, we first
need to understand the Vidyadhara themselves. The Vidyadhara are long-life species that are
descendants of Long, the Aeon of Permanence, known as the "progenitor of all dragons". The Vidyadhara are
part of a group known as "Long's scions", dragon-like species that are spread across multiple words and
that are considered Long's progenies. While the usual Vidyadhara doesn't look very dragon-like,
a select few kept their draconic traits. But, we are going to talk about them a bit later. The
Vidyadhara are originally from an Unnamed Ocean World. It was said that back then they could use
the powers derived from Long to "change the form of any creature". Keep this in mind because it will
be important later. One day, they lost control over their powers, and the creatures from their Home
World suddenly turned on them. To ensure the survival of the species, the Vidyadhara left their
Home World and joined the Xianzhou Alliance, as one of the three long-life species, together with the
Xianzhou natives, and the Foxians. The entire Scalegorge Waterscape from the Luofu was said to have
been brought over from their Home World. Compared to other long-life species from the Xianzhou,
the Vidyadhara are closest to "true immortality". While the Foxians can live a few centuries, they
are nowhere near immortals, and the Xianzhou natives are prone to be struck by Mara. Vidayadhara on the other hand, undergo a process known as "hatching rebirth", where they repair their bodies and hatch
a new from pearl-like eggs with their memories wiped. This process allowed them to escape the plague of
Mara and continue living endlessly... unless... well, they are killed. You see, even if they can endlessly
reincarnate, they are not really Immortal. Vidyadhara can die if they are killed!... Vidyadhara can actually
die if they are severely wounded, and when that happens, they won't undergo hatching rebirth.
This has been a concern for the species for a long time. Since they cannot reproduce and have
normal offsprings, they are bound to extinction as their numbers decline with time. Because
of this, many Vidyadhara search for a way to free the species from the cycle of hatching
rebirth and allow them to reproduce normally. As Long's scions, a select few Vidyadhara possessed
the power to turn into a dragon. These individuals are known as High Elders. Even in their regular
form, Vidyadhara High Elders possessed draconic features such as horns and tails. The High
Elders are usually guided and educated by the Preceptors, a group of Vidyadhara Elders
responsible for governing and the well-being of their people until the High Elder is ready
to lead them. The High Elders receive an Orb of Abysm and the Transmutation Arcanum, which
allows them to dream about events from their previous lives. After they became a part of the
Xianzhou Alliance, the Vidyadhara on each ship were led by a different High Elder. The influence
of the High Elders usually stays among the Vidyadhara, but there are exceptions like the
Xianzhou Fanghu, where the Vidyadhara High Elder governs the entire ship. Currently,
there are five High Elders on five out of the six remaining Xianzhou ships. The only ship
without one is the Xianzhou Xuling... But, that's okay, since nobody knows what's going on with that
ship anyway. The five High Elders are Glaciator Marum - the High Elder of the Xianzhou Fanghu,
Caelorum Venti - the High Elder of the Xianzhou Yaoqing, Ardens Regia - the High Elder of the
Xianzhou Zhuming, Mons Grandis - the High Elder of the Xianzhou Yuque, and finally... Imbibitor
Lunae - the High Elder of the Xianzhou Luofu. Imbibitor Lunae is the title of the Vidyadhara High Elder on the
Luofu, also known as "the successor of the Azure Dragon", and "commander of Clouds and Rain". The name
literally means "Drinker of the Moon" in Latin. In the Year 4800 of the Star Calendar, the five
lineages of Vidyadhara made an alliance on the Xianzhou Yuque, after which the High Elders were tasked
to protect the seals of their respective ships plaguemark. The plaguemarks are artifacts that
Yaoshi gifted to each Xianzhou ship to grant them immortality. On the Luofu, the plaguemark is the
Ambrosial Arbor. On other ships, the plaguemarks may vary. On the Yaoqing, for example, the plaguemark is said to be a Moon instead. At some point, an event known as the "Shuhu upheaval period"
led to the destruction of the Luofu's Dragon Palace at the Scalegorge Waterscape. The events were
orchestrated by Shuhu, one of the Emanators of the Abundance. To protect the seal on the Ambrosial
Arbor, Imbibitor Lunae Yubie, the Vidyadhara High Elder at that time, decided to submerge the entire
Palace underwater. It was due to his actions that Dan Heng needed to split the waters at the Scalegorge
Waterscape to bring up the seal of the Arbor. Dan Feng was the most recent Imbibitor
Lunae and the previous incarnation of our boy... Dan Heng. I'm really glad that we have this
information because otherwise, I would have never been able to figure this out. Joking aside,
Dan Feng is a very infamous person in the history of the Luofu Vidyadhara. Besides his title as
Imbibitor Lunae, Dan Feng was also part of the High Cloud Quintet, a group of five heroes in
the Xianzhou's history that fought together and had numerous achievements. They saved the
Xianzhou Yuque from an assault by the Denizens of Abundance, subdued the Borisin, which are
the wild cousins of the Foxians that dropped out of college and formed a death metal band, and
defeated a LIVING PLANET!... Yeah, you heard me right! The Quintet was led by Jingliu and included
members like Dan Feng, Jing Yuan, Yinxing, and Baiheng. Sometimes after Year 7379 of the Star
Calendar, *Dan Feng would go on to commit a great crime, which would spark turmoil and be considered
an act of rebellion against the Luofu. The event was known as the "Sedition of the Imbibitor Lunae",
which resulted in Dan Feng being imprisoned in the Shackling Prison and forced to undergo hatching
rebirth. Ever since we got to learn about it, many people wondered: "What happened back then?" Well,
luckily, this patch finally gave us some answers. Before I begin, remember that the events that
happen at the time are only implied through dialogue and pieces of text. So, to form a cohesive timeline,
a certain amount of personal interpretation is needed to fill the gaps. Imbibitor Lunae's
Character Story: Part III tells us that Dan Feng was fighting an enemy at that time. We do not know
what enemy he was facing, only that it was referred to as the "Emissary of the God". Given the name,
it's a high chance that it might be an Emanator. (Shuhu) Regardless, all we know is that Dan Feng couldn't
defeat this foe even after turning into a dragon. As he was on the verge of death, a Starskiff was
set to "ran everything through like an arrow shaft", and defeated the monster. Remember the High Cloud
Quintet? Pretty much all of the members are still present in the story in some way, except for the
Foxian bow-user, Baiheng. Well... the reason for that is because it's implied that she was
the one who saved Dan Feng and piloted the starskiff, into the enemy. After that Baiheng was killed
by some strange power that belonged to the enemy (I got this part wrong. Check the pinned comment.) and all that remained of her were "a tuft of her
hair and a few drops of blood". After Baiheng died, it is implied that Dan Feng used the Transmutation
Arcanum at the Scalegorge Waterscape to bring her back. But, first... What exactly is the Transmutation
Arcanum? We know that it's normally used together with the "dragon heart" to pass on the powers of
the Vidyadhara High Elder, but when Dan Feng used it, something went wrong with the ritual.
Remember in the beginning when I said that the Vidyadhara had the ability to change the form
of any creature in the past? Well... while it is said that they lost that power, I believe that the
Transmutation Arcanum is what's left of it. With it, it is said that Dan Feng "created new life". Dan
Feng, who was accompanied by a "craftsman", implied to be Xingxing, incorporated other races - AKA Baiheng's
remains and maybe even Yingxing's flesh as well, with the flesh of the Dragon, planning
to revive Baiheng as a Vidyadhara. Their planned backfired, resulting in the creation of a Draconic
Abomination that destroyed the Gourge and almost broke the seal on the Arbor. After the monstrosity
was slain - presumably by Jingliu, all that was left was Bailu. This is where we put on our tin foil
hats and assume that Bailu is most likely Baiheng's reincarnation as a Vidyadhara after Dan Feng
used the Transmutation Arcanum. I mean... just look at them! You cannot tell me that they don't look
almost the same. This "conspiracy theory" is further evident when we look at the fact that Vidyadhara
High Elders usually dream about their past lives, but Bailu never dreamed of anything... That is, until
she boarded the Express. Why is this relevant? Well... because Baiheng was once part of the Nameless,
which explains why Bailu could dream after getting on the Space Choo-Choo. It is also believed
that Vidyadhara pass on the first letter of their names when they go through hatching rebirth.
Dan Feng, Dan Heng. Baiheng, Bailu. Both of them share the first letter in their Chinese names.
This "catastrophe" also resulted in the power of the High Elder being split between Bailu and Dan
Heng, with the former inheriting Dan Feng's healing abilities, and the latter inheriting his fighting -
or destructive abilities. The splitting of power between the two also caused some weird changes to
the High Elder succession. For example, it is said that after the ritual is complete, the new High
Elder will slowly change appearances to resemble the previous one, but that's not the case with
Bailu. She also doesn't have any combat abilities, since those remain with Dan Heng, a fact that
attracted the disdain of the Preceptors, who value power over everything. After the incident was
over, Dan Feng was branded as a "sinner", imprisoned, and forced to go through hatching rebirth. There
are quite a few mysteries regarding Dan Feng's actions that remain. Was saving Baiheng the only
thing he was trying to do? Did he intentionally mess up the process of High Elder succession?
Is he also responsible for Yingxing's fate? Out of five viewers, all of them must SUBSCRIBE!
And you... are one of them! So, if you don't want this guy to follow you around the Universe, you
better subscribe and give this video a thumbs up! Since the beginning of the Luofu storyline, one
of the established plot points was Blade's vendetta against Dan Heng. It was obvious that they shared
a history, but we never knew what happened between them. Later, we found out that both Blade - who was
previously a short-lived species man who went by the name of Yingxin - and Dan Feng, were friends and
fellow members of the High Cloud Quintet. At some point, Yingxing was turned into an immortal, and
Dan Feng broke a taboo on the Luofu. Because of that, people assumed that he was the one who turned
Yingxing into an immortal. But, unfortunately, we never get an answer to what happened between
the two. At least... not until this point. But, it is implied that Yingxing was together with Dan
Feng during the Sedition of Imbibitor Lunae, but we never learned how Yingxing was turned into
an immortal. It is also implied that Dan Feng used both - Baiheng's remains and Yingxing's flesh
for the ritual, which resulted in Bailu's birth... and presumably... Yingxing becoming immortal!? There is
also the fact that some pieces of lore might even suggest that it wasn't even Dan Feng who turned
him, but Jingliu. Blade's Character Story reveals that after the Sedation of Imbibitor Lunae, Yingxing
was repeatedly killed by Jingliu. Because of that, I saw some people theorizing that Jingliu
turned him into an immortal to get revenge on him for what happened to Baiheng. If you want
to learn more about this theory, I will leave a Twitter thread in the description, where you can
go and read more about it. I am still more inclined to say that he got turned during the Sedition
of Imbibitor Lunae by Dan Feng. Was this done on purpose or not... we don't know. Anyway, I'm sure that more will be
revealed in the future. At some point after that, Yingxing joined the Stellaron Hunters and assumed
the identity of Blade. He is now seeking vengeance over what happened, and the people on his "hit list"
are most likely Jingliu, Dan Heng, and... himself. After Dan Feng was forced to undergo hatching
rebirth, his new incarnation - Dan Heng, grew up alone in the Shackling Prison. After he was
finally released and exiled from the Luofu, he wandered around the Universe trying
to escape the shackles of his past. At some point he worked for the IPC, and even
traveled with the Mourning Actors for a time, until one day he met a red-haired lady
who invited him on the board of the Astral Express. While hesitant at first, he accepted the
offer and joined them as their archivist. His past life would continue to hunt him all
this time, having to deal with Blade, who was constantly hunting him down. In the end,
Dan Heng managed to finally break free from his past, find a new life, and a family he could
always return to, while also returning home to make amends, but not because he was Dan Feng's
reincarnation, but because he - Dan Heng, wanted to.
