ladies and gentlemen Damon Hill is here that is a big welcome antastic welcome thank you very much and obviously I've got to start with a big question are you the Stig um well I'm glad you asked me that Jeremy because um I get asked that all the time and I keep saying no I'm not the Stig but they won't believe me so I'm gonna get t-shirt well I think I'd have to be standing next to the Stig or something like that to prove that I wasn't sick so if we have the Stig next to me perhaps that would be but you see we can't do that no not really love me breathe on you yeah magnesium Formula One yeah American Grand Prix what of all that's holy was that about um it's outrageous I mean you know six cars on the grid it was a very sad day and complete fiasco Frank Williams was quoted as saying you know the atmosphere stinks informa well at the moment well I mean it's been pretty smelly for quite a long time but yes the team's want to move away isn't it and form their own series and Bernie Eccleston doesn't want them to and Ferrari want to stay and the others want to go yeah there's a lot of factions and there's a lot of politics that are involved so if something like this happens there's a problem with the tire suddenly there's an opportunity for certain people to to make political capital of it and I think unfortunately that the fans the people who actually pay for these guys and to go and enjoy themselves Racing are left standing in the grandstands not seeing what their benefit yeah wonder grunts does how many people - hundred million people worldwide it joins me that Bernie used to be this big power a you wasn't completely in charge and he's lost his power now hasn't he cuz in the past he would have just put all the team managers in the back of a van and broken their legs and the grace it was all very simple in the old days wasn't it no nobody at racing he'd get he'd get things done well I can member sitting on the grid for some races and Bernie would come down and they'd be about that much water and a torrential downpour and we'd all be saying oh it's a bit dangerous and he'd say he'd say you're driving you're driving you're driving and we did that's how it should be you need a dictator if you need me really actually I'm doesn't great ideas for Formula One to be we'd like to hear them well no cause if I've always said if you pay the drivers a living wage 20 grand a year okay they could live on that and then give them a million every time they overtake someone then watch them say the arrogance oh well it was called Grand Prix for that very reason I mean the original idea was it was a big prize you went racing for him and somehow it got sort of come confused and nobody knows what you were now Fred winning a Grand Prix oh god I don't know what to do with it anyway listen to you okay you're running a wedding car business these days that's not a wedding that's no not quite um it's a it's a it's a car club which I mean it you've had all the cars on this show the top cars Ferraris Lamborghinis and Aston Martin's all of those top performances and you joined basically it's a club that you call p1 that you people pay a membership yearly membership and they can use all the cars as much as they like how much so then you can drive a car you can just ring up a fancier Ferrari this week under a Lambo yeah and yet you drive an Audi a3 yeah well it's a practical car it's some good sex yeah whatever it's no DC I'm always fascinated by this because I want my once went to interview a fighter pilot bloke I've met down in Boscombe down your trainer bloke your trained fighter parts you had a beige Volvo yeah why do you all when you've lived at 300 miles an hour drive rubbish um because we've lived at 300 miles an hour so now you don't need the actual what you just wanted something practical that gets you around you don't need the the thrill if you like a driving you've had that what so you just pootle around now in your Aldi I don't exactly pootle but um you know there's too many people driving very wide for GTS and drivers slowest man I'm not driving 4 GTS because it's again back with Ford but they'll be nurse the excitement of going a million well a there's a corollary to that this the you know the the imminent accident that you can experience and I've had enough of that really I you know I raced up to the age of 39 and I think biologically we kind of get to the point where we a little voice in the back of the head says you know you could make it to 60 if you really took care of yourself if you don't know how much confess it's why I don't do the fighter jet stuff anymore now I just look at the kids and think why do I want to go upside down now I had enough of it I don't know sympathize with you here uh okay right we've got to talk now about your lap yeah ah yes it wasn't exactly neat my neatest lap I've ever done in my life but it's quite different than one of those cars I not complaining about the equipment Joe Dawson I would be that would be ball four when was the last time you drove competitively um I think well when I was in Formula One well who'd like to see how he got on then it is basically is come back play the tape that's a rubbish start oh come on a lot slower for the one karma I still feeling along with the old adrenaline here something you lying in there the Stig the Stig actually told me I was doing it all wrong there well that's but that looks quite quick now you step namely not bad no that was really very good right up to the edge it's for hammerhead will believe I just went over I just killed a bug I'm not even going to ask you if you lift it off for this one because there's no way that was Frank yeah let's look flat quite easily flattened here we go second to last corner catches most people out are you here on the grass like most people and then across the line so where do you think you've come here um hmm I dread to think actually it's gonna hit of a shock come on tell me yeah he said this boy well if I'm not at the top we're gonna be suicidal you did it d he'll one minute fifty point three seconds you actually did it in one minute forty six point three seconds oh dude blowing away I'm really ought to know who am I really I mean yeah but this I have to ask you you've just find it incredibly easy because you were chatting round they're not even um yeah I I think it's quite easy one of those Suzuki's it - it's quite a lot of time to think but that's the funny thing is because I always thought well well I've started today well no one will really ever go faster than do you know Jimmy Carr it's as fast as the car will go now we know it isn't the thing is though I'm not going to put you on that board now I thought not and we anticipated you might be the fastest man ever to come here so we've had an entirely new board made up which is for Formula One drivers here it is okay and you are going at the top of that thank you I think this could be a brilliant idea because now that Formula One racing buff doesn't really happen anymore yeah and if the drivers you know feel the need to come and have a go on a track they can land their jets here we have no act brakes yeah they don't have to wear a hat they don't have to say for music our was perfect in a press conference afterwards and you know the best thing we checked it this morning it's true the Suzuki runs on Bridgestone's so there you are you're at the top of that and if any more f1 drivers out there who want to give it a go you're more than welcome anyway ladies and gentlemen David Hale you
