If Stotts were to be fired mid-season which is unlikely in my opinion , who would be the leading candidates to replace him?
Kinda funny how Stephen A. said he’s good with the X and Os but lacking something else. I actually think it’s the other way around. Stotts has the trust of his players, he gives them freedom, and he does a good job or revitalizing/developing players. But he is really lacking in the X and Os. His offensive system of iso heavy, low amount of ball movement, hella contested shots, is something you’ll find in a pick up game. We don’t run many sets at all. Come playoff time you’re gonna get cooked doing that. Our defensive scheme is extremely outdated it would work well lates 00s early 10s but now having a drop scheme or zone and allowing opposing teams to get wide open threes is exactly what you don’t wanna do. I think Stotts is the type of coach you would want on a developing/rebuilding team but he’s not the type of coach you want when your goal is to compete for a chip.
"HEE AIIIIIIIGGGGGGHHHT" sums up how I feel pretty much lol
Completely observational but it seems like what Stotts lacks is the ability to say no to the few players who carry the whole franchise every night. They need a hard assistant coach to hold them accountable when they’re scarecrows on defense or taking iso 30ft jumpers after bricking 4
Media putting a lot of pressure on Dame to meet expectations I can’t lie. He won’t hear the end of this if we go out badly these playoffs considering how much media attention he’s gotten this year
Honesty both these guys kinda hit the nail on the head. They both identified a “missing ingredient” in our franchise, they just disagreed on the ingredient. Max isn’t wrong that we’ve been a player short for 5 years, but Steven A summarized the fire Stotts argument well - Stotts just doesn’t have that “it factor” element outside of being a decent X’s and O’s coach (questionable). He’s just “aiiighht” lol. Stotts is an assistant coach, he doesn’t have the personality or charisma to be truly great head coach. He just doesn’t have what it takes to elevate the team to a higher set of standards and expectations.
Ok so he doesn't officially say Stotts should be fired but he's referencing his inadequacy lol. I don't really think too much on these kind of "hot take" sports shows but it is interesting that Portland and Dame have been getting more natl coverage lately
I think that’s how a lot of us feel. Stotts is alright. Mid tier level coach. The question is can we hire a better coach? I think the answer is no we can’t hire a better coach that is proven. We would have to take a risk on a coach that we think will be good but is unproven. We’ll see how the playoffs go this year.
that may be the first and last time Stephen A smith has no opinion on something. I don't think he's even been on the fence or called anything aight before.
Max is right here, missing a quality forward since the exit of Aldridge.
