come on so montreal is a world city a lot of diversity and i'm having syrian food for the first time i've had middle eastern food and certainly there's crossovers but i haven't had specifically syrian food and chef fuad was born here moved back to syria where his family was from when he was nine and spent many years there and now he's back so look at this place it's gorgeous my friends yohab and tammy are here too and chef starts my syrian education with a traditional drink which he tells us is basically the original booze so this is beautiful it's called arak yes it's made from grapes with anise and it is the first distilled drink in the world the name alcohol comes from arabic which means which is mascara so they were trying to make mascara and somebody thought i should taste this mascara and they got a bit dizzy and then they enjoyed a minute you know it's better than mascara is there assyrian cheers yes did i see that right the heim is good too look at this pita oh you gotta love this middle eastern food is like the food of the moment everywhere i go all over the world this we call a goat's ear when you take a little piece which you could scoop directly like this good for scooping oh that's beautiful look at the eggs are those quail eggs wow cured tenderloin kind of like a brazala so we take this like a little mini sandwich [Music] you could just sell these on the corner you could open an egg big muffin shop it's a great breakfast sandwich the thing that's so special about this place is that i find that it really brings together people from so many different walks of life like cultures religions like there's a lot of conversation right now obviously with immigration and debates about you know people moving and i think people are scared of each other for no reason but then you come to a place like here and when it's you know in the evening you completely forget about that and you just see people from so many different backgrounds you can't hate you can't be bad even no if you're eating something that's delicious this is the start of its meals usually it's nine to fifteen courses what do you mean this is perfectly fine for me i think they forgot the kibby oh it's okay you forgot the kibby what do i have to do so the idea here is to have a feast a huge variety of food so if you get too full now we're gonna have a problem so you want me to slow down a little bite this is too good this is this is very famous among the aleppo juice it could be with the [Music] this you have to try with the bread go all the way in take the ghee it's marinaded lamb with the gin of hunger paste that's a lot you sold it you sold it to me you said get in there so i did i'm glad i did you how was everything so far i love everything so far great this is the alley protein sour gin base coriander some lemon juice some sugar salt shrimp aleppo spice is this a drink in syria or something you invented here we didn't invent it but it's inspired by and you come from syria yes when did you get here three years and a half was it hard to get here yeah it was really awesome but you're here now yeah do you like canada i'm in love with canada i am too yeah i i'm so glad to be here i'm chasing your drink [Music] it's surprising right it smells green so the green has to come from a certain point i think i ever had that flavor yes these look like lamb chops my favorite thing about a lamb chop it's got a handle is that all right it works it works it seems like a good bite do it all right let me get in there you like smoked eggplant i love it every single thing that you do so far you can only disappoint me from now on you
