you do not understand how excited i am so i went on a trip to dubai i was very lucky to be able to go abroad to celebrate my birthday and by the way it was incredible it was amazing and while i was there we were in the dubai mall which is the biggest mall in the world i don't know well something like that it's got just about everything in there and i noticed a daiso out of the corner of my eye and you already know we had to stop there so i think it'll be great to see what art supplies they have and if we could create art with these supplies hey people it's temmie if you're new here and on this channel i told you this year we are experimenting with new supplies so i went into daiso with an open mind remember my goals video where i'm like openness all of 2022 might have been a music so here we go going to die so i don't really know what to expect i knew it was a japanese dollar store and it says most items are 7 dirhams which comes to around 2 or 1.50 so i think that's about right i'm walking around it definitely gives me partner kind of energy just having a whole load of everything for very cheap so you can imagine my excitement to see what kind of treasures we can find in here i've just spotted some glass paint and it's something that i've been wanting to try since i saw a tic toc trend over a year ago and i'm just gonna pick as many colors as i can see because i don't know what i'll be painting yet so i might as well grab a nice variety of colors do i need all these colors probably not but do i want all these colors absolutely so i've got a whole bunch of paint and this is glass paint i think next i need to find glass ooh just want some crayons it's 48 and this one is only 24 and seven there's nothing okay oh that's seven yes one seven point three are these better than these yes this one is like thin and this one is big silver metallic let's try that bronze metallic just try that do they have gold they do not have gold they do not have girls is this calligraphy inc correction inc let's try that oh this is calligraphy anyway let's try it at this point i am too excited by what i've seen so far but i think i need to leave it here call it a day and bring these items back to the uk okay so we're done i couldn't go quite as hard as i wanted because i still needed things to fit back in my suitcase or it wouldn't have entered the uk with me i'm gonna show you everything that i got so i got each of these glass paints so i got somewhat of a rainbow variation and then four skin tones so two nudish and two browns i can't tell you how excited i am to be using these glass panes i definitely need to test out the quality so the opacity the color payoff and all of that and even mixing some of these colors and i definitely need to test out on glass but i don't have any gloss at the moment so i think i'll just start by doing some swatches in my notebook and here is what each bottle looks like and okay it's got a nozzle i am pleasantly impressed because you don't even need to be playing around with a brush or anything you can literally just apply it straight out of the bottle and i love that i'm definitely loving these colors that i've chosen the applicator the bottle tip i think it's just the perfect kind of thing but actually i had some difficulty with this blue so it's just a little bit blocked because it seemed like some of the paint had kind of dried that might be a fear for some of these for the future but i just use a safety pin and it's flowing like normal and yeah those are all the colors that i could find i definitely like the pastel kind of vibe i love the pink and the purple and it'll be great to try something out with this later next i picked up the two metallic paints and i was desperately that looks mad i think we need to shake it but i was desperately looking for a gold but they only have this bronze and silver with the metallic paints it'll be interesting to see how shiny and opaque the payoff is so just going to swatch it also but first it looks so weirdly separated and even after shaking it it just ugh this is disgusting so i'm using a paint brush to try to mix it and it feels so gooey and it feels disgusting let me know if you normally paint a lot or if you've actually used this supply what can you do if your paints get like this do you just have to keep stirring and mixing until it comes out together or what can you actually do because it just ended up being really lumpy and weird but i actually applied very nicely and it's probably more watery than i thought maybe it's because i didn't mix it enough i know i was disappointed by not finding a gold but i really really really love this bronze and the silver is similar with the shaking thing and to be honest i definitely didn't stir it properly but it'll be interesting to see these dry to see if they give off a shinier payoff but for now let's move on and next we've got this calligraphy ink and if i'm going to be honest i don't know why i bought this because what am i going to do with calligraphy ink but it opens up to a nozzle like this and i'm not really sure why because it's not like you could just apply it like that i don't know what are some other uses for calligraphy ink because if you're using for actual calligraphy surely you'd want to dip into the ink as opposed to applying it with a nozzle like this i'm not really sure but i'm just going to grab a brush and oh that applies so nice okay so if i actually wanted to do calligraphy like the alden way with a feather do they use feather the ink is such good quality i'm not gonna lie to you guys i am so far so impressed by the supplies i found to think this is a dollar store poundland kind of thing i definitely get the impression that it's pretty good quality so this is nice and next i picked up some correction ink yeah again this is one of those i don't know why i picked it up because i don't have a use for this and in this bright orange i don't know but testing it out it actually applies nice and smooth i am pleasantly surprised again i don't know what need i have for this but it's a nice addition maybe in the future i'll do a nice mixed media piece and you know make this a focal color point and next i've got some oil-based markers and they're all the same size and they also apply really nice there's really not much to say about these markers maybe they'll be good for outlines for a different style of drawing but i don't know maybe even as an outline for like a glass pane kind of painting because the water shouldn't affect it since it's oil-based right i don't know i guess we'll see next i've got some color brush pens and this was another very random pick i guess if i was still doing bullet journal stuff it might be quite useful but they apply so nice so nice i really like this brown i don't know how i feel about the green but again i don't even know what normal art i would do with these but they are so nice i try to do the whole thing of when you hold two tips together and then you have like a gradient kind of effect form but yeah that didn't work out at all so yeah and those are all the swatches on this page and now finally the crayons so this is arguably what i'm most excited for so i saved the best to last if you're familiar with my channel you know i've done some other crayon videos so it would be great to see how these work how these perform but let's get to swatching them so i'm touching them in my mixed media pad which is the same pad i've used for my crayon pieces in the past and they apply quite nice i think i'm trying to compare it to my crayola crayons in my mind but let me know guys you want to see a side-by-side comparison between these daiso crayons and crayolas but it's definitely a really nice color range i mean some of these yellows are even giving excessive but it's pretty nice and actually the greens applied a bit weird i don't know what it was about the green but it was not giving it almost felt like a different kind of formula was used for this first greens especially but it just it was just it just felt a little bit weird and now i'm just going to try some blending so a simple yellow to red blend i feel like it's my staple first kind of blend to try in most art sets and it seems to blend quite nice and it also gets to a nice opaque point so already i'm feeling quite good about these crayons now i'm going to try another blend but first i'll use the indenting tool to see if i can preserve some whites it's something that worked really well for my previous crayon drawings and also using a solvent a solvent definitely helped some of the initial blend so it'll be interesting to see how these crayons also act with the solvent and first this blend was just higgy and haggard there was nothing good about it i don't know what it is about these greens but i think i'm just going to avoid the greens from now on and even applying the solvent it was just like a mucky mess it was not giving it was just kind of separating did i use too much solvent am i going over the same point too much i don't know but what i do know is i'm going to keep these crayons far away from my solvent now to create some art so this is the reference picture i'm going to be using today i found it on pixabay.com i'll leave a link down in the description and i'm going to use the crayons so i was most excited about the crayons i did want to try something with the glass pane and maybe i'll do that in a future video but for this one with that reference it looks like a nice enough simple reference that hopefully shouldn't take too long i'm obviously feeling a little nervous but just starting by separating the page so we've got the sky and the water and i think i'll tackle the sky first and then we'll try to do the water but i definitely wanted to try a landscape piece today if you watched my goals video which i would definitely advise you watch i went over my 2021 goals achieving those the ones i didn't quite achieve and what i'm doing different this year and also my actual 2022 goals but in that video i spoke about how i want to be more open so i want to use more art supplies crayons are something i've used on my channel before but i also want to face different subject matters i want to do different types of art i felt a little bit like i was confining myself in the portrait box for too long and i definitely still want to do portraits but i want to explore other things i want to do nice colorful things not just everyday realism and yeah i think 2020 will be an interesting journey and recently i've kind of struggled with art block i know after i made that video on art block i thought that's it i've got all the solutions it's all good but the reality is but even if you've got what feels like the key to your success you might still struggle and what's interesting about that is that you might know you need to do something but it doesn't mean you're going to be motivated to do that same thing but yeah so really struggled recently and after my holiday like dubai was great don't get me wrong but just coming back to the cold and just feeling a little bit demoralized very jet-lagged and just overall demotivated i really struggled to get back into video creation i definitely feel lucky that i can split my time in ways that i can chill and really take time to recover but something i want to prioritize this year is just rest in the past i will burn myself out i will overwork and from now on i'm trying to put myself first so hence the lack of videos i would get so many questions about it and of course i'll always do the shorts i've got a short schedule that i've keeping up with and they're so quick and easy to do but in terms of longer videos part of it was just the no motivation feeling some art block but the other part was actual fear and the fear comes from pressure that i've put on myself some of the pressure and this might feel like such a first world problem but because my youtube channel has grown so quickly that's actually gave me more anxiety than joy last month december i was celebrating 200 000 subscribers which once again absolutely insane thank you so much for your support but this month january i just crossed over 250 000. that is insane that kind of growth is insane and in that sense i know a lot of people are coming from my shorts so then i feel the fear of would you like my long form content i don't know so let me just not do anything at all you know and that's not a solution by the way but that's where the anxiety's kind of taken me and it's not been easy to get out of my own head and just create the content anyway because theoretically the people that will watch it will watch the people that will support will support so the pressure of this big subscriber number but then no one actually wanting to watch each video i put out is what scared me but it's not like i've tried it and it happened it's just it's just been a random future fear that i need to snap out of so yeah that's kind of something that stopped or rather hindered my outcomes and honestly the only way that i've even stepped out of it now is just to set myself a deadline and be like i need to do this video because i've got so many ideas it's not like i'm lacking on ideas but i definitely put too much pressure on myself and each video that you see is going to be me actively trying to snap out of it and i think having openness as my word for the year is honestly the perfect word because obviously openness and trying new supplies trying new art subjects and all of that but also openness and the fact that because i will be new to a lot of things this year there is less pressure on things to go well and it's probably even going to be easier and better for me to show failures rather than trying to chase perfection so that's what my channel is going to be all about this year with this crayon drawing that i'm doing this guy is just looking a bit higgy and haggard i'm not loving it i do love the colors i love you know the pinks the purples the oranges i think it looks really nice one thing this set is missing is a black i found it really hard to get the deepest deepest values in the set and i ended up using the darkest brown for some of the waves but it's definitely a little bit annoying that i can't create the wide variety of values i need and to finish off i'm just going to use the dotting tool to scrape away some of the colors to bring back the sharpest sharpest white light and also it helps with a little bit of detail in the water i like how it's giving you know a little bit abstract i'm obviously not chasing realism here and i actually quite like how this turned out so let me know what you think down in the comments if you want to see me playing around with more crayons you love this video next you
