Daily Blender Secrets - Asteroid field

Enable the Extra Objects add-on and create one rock. Open the options and choose the convenient Asteroid preset. Increase the amount. Select them all by pressing A and go to Randomize Transform. Increase the location value. Select them all and Set Origin to Geometry. On the first frame, set a Rotation keyframe for all the rocks. Go to the last frame and open the Randomize Transform panel. Uncheck Location and enter the maximum value in all the rotation fields. Set a rotation keyframe. Now they all rotate slowly and randomly. To collapse all the modifiers at once, convert all of the rocks to mesh. Add a Decimate modifier to one rock and set it to a low value like 0.1. Select all the asteroids and select the one with the Decimate modifier again to make it active. Then press Ctrl+L and choose modifiers so they all share that Decimate modifier. Convert them al to Mesh again to apply the decimate modifiers.
