[Music] second technical exams mes so attitude never cultivate a complaining attitude when you are inside then you start complaining about [Music] everything sometimes these things you know stop your growth and you cultivate a lot of negativity in yourself which doesn't really help because it's my choice that I'm writing this exam right so either write it without complaining or just don't write it this may sound brutal to a lot of people but this is the reality if you are complaining about something constantly you don't have a right to complain because you have chosen that path yourself you knew it's going to be tough you knew it's going to be demanding but still you want to do it so now if you're doing it better do it without [Music] complaining hi aspirants a very warm welcome to camomile t with Toppers an initiative by an academy I'm twinkle gangar your host for today and we are in conversation with Assad zuberi hi Assad hello how are you doing I'm good thank you for having me here thank you so much for finding out time for us first of all so to begin with I would like to know something about you your past who are you so as you said my name is Assad zui and I am from aligar which is a town in up with a district in utar Pradesh and uh I'm an engineer I'm a mechanical engineer I have done my engineering from nit alabad which in bagaj in 2019 uh then I worked with a with an automobile firm for 1 and a half years and I've given this exam two serious attempts and three attempts in total and I have cracked it in 2022 with a rank of 86 wow and I have always been targeting Indian Foreign Service so luckily I'm the second last person to get it this year so now I am under training you're under training so engineering or relation did it help you if you talk about curriculum Rel but um I feel like engineering I to crack so you get this Knack of uh cracking the exam you know so similar strategy apply in upsc as well which somehow worked for me and also I feel like currently regardless of what whichever service you are in um you are required to have certain uh sort of technical you know mindset orientation which will help you in this service so I think engineering but if you see a direct correlation then you may not find it but I think it will come handy somewhere down somewhere down the all right so you know it didn't happen at the first time then at the second time insiration who cracked it in one go right that's how it goes so how did you keep yourself motivated and how did you go through that Journey so uh for me it was always like so I came in this circuit keeping three attempts in my mind because I was already working and I thought the best I can do is take a two and a half 3 years off and if it doesn't work out I'll go back and work and this was my third attempt so I did not even apply for the next one if you know that okay so usually people apply it before but I was done so I did not apply this year so first one I would not count it even as an attempt because I was not prepared at all I was working I had left I quit my job two three months before prelims so uh second one I missed it just by six marks I gave interview in my second attempt wow I I cleared prelims Mains and they then give interview so you know you have this sort of a realization approach exam because you know some tweaks here and there and you are in in so when I felt that honestly I'll tell you because interview and then you realize that you're not selected so a a major part of your heart tells you because you feel like everything is going against you like the world is against you so you don't really want to give it against but I had I have I was lucky enough to get um to have a very nice group of friends who also did not get selected like did not get through with me so so you have someone to pick you so me dwid shos aradana and madav these five people all of us were giving interview in 20121 and I still remember the result day it was uh May 30th I think yeah so I my interview was May 23 2020 2 and and result date was 30th May because my interview was towards the end and by that time all four of my friends were already done with their interviews so they had time to you know Recaps youate and then they were preparing for prelims I was the only one who had not read a single page for prelims again though I had applied for my third attempt so gole and we were actually looking at each other and talking and suddenly PDF take so we opened it live sorry we opened it live and none of us were there all five were out so initially and I thought that this cannot be the list so I was contemplating because a lot of fake list are also released so I thought list and I thought that then I checked but timately so all you know all five of them uh all all five of us they H me prepare again then P by next prelims so we got through and then I realized when I cleared prelims again that this is my last chance so I gave it everything again wow because I knew that is at least I'm out of the circuit because getting out of UPS circuit was more important to me uh selection if you get out it's nothing better than that and then also when you get the service that you want but still like that just getting out of this Loop in itself is a relief so for me this was the Redemption this I'll give everything and then I'll not attempt it again not so how did you switch to UPS yes I want to do this so for me um getting into Indian Foreign Service was a dream but by the time I reached College I realized this is not something that I can do because involved I mean in college I was more of a guy who who will you find you know probably playing guitar or somewh drums or you know doing all sorts of fun activities going on trips Etc but not studying in a library so this was not on the cards till the college was ending but finally I realized I need to do something with my life so I I wanted to write this exam but when I will do that I did not know so when I went for my job um I suddenly you know I believe in destiny that certain things happen in your life in a certain way to push you towards a certain direction so initially I also wanted to join the Indian Air Force so 2019 I had cleared this written exams and I went for uh SSB I got through the initial rounds then I was conferenced out the last day so and then I was like next thing so I thought UPS so the the profile on which I was hired in my company something happened and they changed my profile to something that I was not liking at all so I completely got disconnected from my work and so I think in sense because I was not someone who can actually lock himself up and prepare and study but when everyone was logged so I was also logged and I started preparing and I think uh I got into the groove of prep preparation so trans over the long period of time and I think transition basic F was disatisfaction with what I was doing and wanting to do something better for myself and my family I think that was a major thing that was your why that you did upsc partly yes also I realized that you know these are one of the best careers that you can out for if you want to work for the government M so I and being a diplomat being an Indian Diplomat the only way you can get it is through this exam so I literally had no choices if you want to do this then exam that's all so I think that was the why for me also there's one more point I feel like in India for a lower middle class family or a person the fastest that you can take your family over a you know social letter or financial letter is upsc here business but for that also you need certain kind of capital and stuff right but this is one exam that um doesn't matter that that doesn't see Financial background parents background they it only respects hard work so I found it as something that you know I can figure out and do myself so that was the answer so my next question to you is how do you approach for prelims so you have two subjects in that and I would like you to actually you know give me details of both the subjects and how you prepared for it what were your aim and what is the subject you know what is the syllabus you think is important and the books that you refer to okay for prelims so as you said there are two papers right paper one and paper two paper two is cat we'll come that to that later paper one is General Studies one in which you get all sorts of questions some people uh jokingly say and everything under the sun is a cabus or actually prelims of cabus loely defined uh that is different from M specifically defined cabus so in prelims um what how to go about is subjects like you have history history different parts ancient medieval modern history post Independence uh is not usually included in um prelims it comes in Mains then you have polity then you have geography then you have economics okay then current affairs is there so all these subjects in sub parts you will find you will have to find a source for all this so for example if I start with history so for instance history I read ncrt RS Sharma medra old then modern history there's a very famous book called Spectrum okay so I also read that book uh and I was done with my Basics so prelims all these basic books you read them and you get done with them and then you start practicing the questions so what I would say for example history history basic books now you go and attempt subject-wise test okay you can get it from uh the coaching Institute where you wherever you are or elsewhere you attempt those tests and while you're attempting you start reading the next subject for example poity so you read lakmi Kant there's a proper list of basic books that everyone has to go through and once you're done with that you attempt uh these papers or in papers attempt see where you are going wrong and then read the solutions properly so I think prelims is more about reading the basics repeating them as much as you can and solving as many mock tests as you can for example attempt I've solved more than 8090 tests I think wow so that is important because you need to orient your mind according to the multiple choice questions and how to go about them and what about CEs cat me um so cat AB it's acting like you know one of the biggest demons for students because it acts as an eliminating factor I know so many friends of mine who managed to clear um the gs1 cut off but they were not able to get the 66.67 marks that you get in C so though C set personally was not a big hurdle for me because 11 12 mats engineering when you go in so so I had already prepared there but it was getting increasingly tough for example 2021 2022 I scored at least 4050 50 marks less than 2021 in cat the reason was that the toughness is increasing day by day so I would say there is no one as of now who can actually safely say that I don't have to prepare CES and I can clear it so you have to prepare CES given that now part for example you can talk about mathematics 10 then there's logic logic English reading comprehension now people all the questions from there and I'll still clear 66 marks that used to work because they started making these sections very tough so you cannot be sure that you you will be able to solve those questions with 100% accuracy so my two cents on it take all these three sections or four sections seriously prepare for each one of them mock test previous questions then you find the kind of question for examp Ty of question you will find a lot of question round table so these type of question they all have a certain given solution how to so YouTube you can find the solution so multiple iteration ofest you'll come across a list of a lot of questions which you're not able to solve YouTube find uh solution make notes of it and then give equal amount of time to all these three things when you are actually writing the exam too all right moving next to uh next to prelims is Mains right and Mains has around seven subjects yes yes so which was your language seven papers seven papers yes plus two uh compulsory papers yeah all right what what was your language subject my language were English yeah English English English and Hindi okay so we would like to have some light on that how did you prepare for the English the languages and for all the other peoples okay so starting from language uml there was I did not have language right you should have just basic functional knowledge of it so U English killing I did not prepare if there's someone who's facing some uh issue with English they should go back to previous year question paper nothing else Hindi I again went to previous year question paper or say you know you get all sorts of and say sentence sentence because they usually repeat these questions so previous question that you get 15 marks for just writing like a five line answer okay because they want you to pass this exam so it usually works out very easily so for me it just worked out with previous question I did not prepare separately for language papers coming to my optional paper my option was anthropology okay and I would just stress on this fact that unless you are scoring well in your optional you may not be able to get your service so you have to prepare it very very well you have to be very thorough with it these two papers are the only papers that are in your control that if you prepared them well you are bound to get a good score so for me it was normal I did not take any coaching for any of these papers neither the GS nor the optional I just took a test Series in uh for my anthropology so I prepared with basic books I made my own notes not making is extremely important when it comes to all the papers as well as option for me so option notes B you know keep repeating it as many number of times that's a preparation part then write as many papers as you can because uh if you're scoring well in these two papers then be sure that you can actually be in the list if you're completing all the other papers so that is an optional I think I can go on speaking about optional but I will keep keep it a little short because this video is not specifically for anthropology um talking about my GS preparation so GS4 is something that was really close to my heart ethics paper and I ended up getting good scores in ethics and essay paper because of which I could get the rank that I am uh so I would strongly suggest everyone watching this that please do prepare your ethics and sa well because this is going to land you your service so ethics I would just say basic definitions noes B and get it you can get it from a lot of books there say people used to use lexicon I use lexicon there are different sources that people can refer to basic notes definition then read newspapers newspapers say you can turn out a lot of case studies a lot of examples that you can quote in your ethics paper because ethics paper is all about understanding a certain ethical concept finding it relevance in public service and then citing an actual example where it is being implemented so post understanding the concept finding it relevance in services and then quoting an example you will get a good score in ethics also I would say ethics make an make answers a little more um essay like it is a different paper from other GS papers so some answers I did not use to write in point like quote a lot of people I used to quote philosophers I used to quote um something you know I have quoted har batan also one of his poems so ethics give you a lot of space to be creative creative and you are very creative I I I read a lot so I just feel like because I always ask like keep reading some some book because that is going to help you in ethics as well as essay paper talking about GS 23 so 23 PR you have specific off topics for every paper which are not included in the prel syus [Music] but you can find value added material onl you can search that up and you can make your own notes for this for example gs1 so gs1 you have topics like Society content you will have to read Society properly make your own notes geography that you have to solve yourself make your own notes history and art and culture because now they're ask going to ask you subjective questions so you have to read in a little more detail for example N singani is a book that a lot of people refer to I refer to another notes made by ntin sangan sir from n sing so because I wanted to read less and produce more so so I would say valed material quote as many number of schemes as you can collect as many number of case studies from newspaper as you can um connect them with the concepts of governance and then quote it in your exam paper collect as many facts as you can government SCH because these things matter at the end specific question you're going to get as many number of marks so GS social justice all these things data matter a lot and value added material matter a lot so I would always recommend internal relations s then I enriched it with my M 365 and you know all the other things that you get compilations enrichment so I think this is General strategy sources but everyone know them so my only two senses can read your newspapers well because I read my newspaper well and I extracted a lot of examples and case studies from the newspapers for example um I can give you an example of uh women in which uh some women they learn to make carpets using banana stem okay oh so this was sort of a circular economic example in which you're using a organic product a waste organic product to produce another product and then sell it off now I can use them in women SG question in Gs one Society I can use them in GS3 environment because I'm using you know this is a CL economy I can use them at multiple places and I used to map these case studies in my head so again I used to work less but use the similar things over different papers smart work if you find mys GS2 or GS simar so uh you've given two interviews we would like to know the experience of both of interviews and how to approach them the first interview first interview happened at the peak of covid-19 yeah 2021 and um board chairman he just came after recovering from Co and then he retired so I was probably the last last few candidates to get interviewed by him and I was wearing a shield and a mask inside okay interview weird because they could not see my face and all I wanted at least until unless you can actually see expression of a person you cannot tell what he or she is talking about right so could be I just tried to be as expressive as I could by doing voice modulations but I could not I am very expressive when you see my face but if you can't see my face I don't I hardly make any sense so I was trying to talk and I could hear my own voice I realized probably I was was actually shouting inside the room or something so it was a weird interview uh very technical questions and Foreign Service preference so they asked me some questions on China ir and stuff so there was this uh member she was sitting right here it it was a small room she was sitting right here and she was just sitting and looking at me so you can actually you know even when you're talking to other people you can see someone is looking at you so I was getting so conscious and when finally the puck was passed to her M to ask the questions she looked at me and she's like I don't want to ask anything I'm done and I realized that she already made her made up her mind that she doesn't want to ask a question I did not get a very good score I got like 165 which was not a very bad score but then not a good score so this was my first interview kah I did not get through by the by the way my if I had scored better then I would have got get into list with I think Police Service or something and then prepare because I did not have a strength to go for it again but happened for good I wanted Foreign Service this year I had a lady member board chairman board and um so interview when you sitting outside the interview room right and you sitting outside and you just doing nothing you're waiting for your name to be you know for that guy to come and call you inside your heart is pounding you are breathing heavily because now it's the last step that you have to take and you have to appear as calm as as you can given that you are as anxious as you ever been so it's a tough job but then um this year it was um it was sort of funny for me so I went inside and I sat m'am question P start and ma'am is very you know known for asking very taking a very candid interview she doesn't go in a lot of details so I was happy that I got her board and uh a very good friend of mine got a really nice score uh from her two years back so I relate to him so I was like simar so I didn't score as good as he did but I scored well this year so normal questions but interesting part when so I used to write a lot of blogs on Kora so that's what that was written in my DA form so she asked me about it and my blog was called as chai biscuit she asked me why chai biscuit and why not chai biscuit because it's a biscuit so interesting convers start about Regional languages and you know dialects of language and she asked me what was the last blog that you wrote so College te- shop owner he's called bans so I wrote few articles called as bansa Chronicles okay so I spent like my four years of my college life there and he had a very interesting things to tell me so translate in a very interesting sort of a write up and I used to put them out so 10 minutes of my interview two members were all about him so I could not have imagined or prepared for it right that my interview will be about him so interview is so random that you cannot uh possibly you know predict so I would say interview at least you can be very sure that you have nothing much in your hand you cannot fake it yeah just be yourself yeah yeah be yourself answer questions have originality in thought I'll again say this do not try to um sugarcoat your statement to not try to find a middle path everywhere if you have a certain view it may be a very unpopular view but surely not you know something that is against the the government completely against the government something that that is not of fine but you can have a different opinion if you have reasons to believe in that opinion they will respect it and they will find you better than a candidate who is just sugarcoating his answers to please them please them because they know that it hardly matters what I think right now but if I should if I should have reasons to Something to Believe In something so I think that originality of thought is what they're looking for at least that's what I feel lovely so your second interview when you left the room what was was your feeling it was bad by something very funny happened so um it was a huge door like propen proper Colonial door so the right flap was open okay so he opened the door for me I went inside I did not ATT because one of them was led I interview I was happy I got up I started moving out and it started vibrating so wasting sound so I turned around no one was looking at me so I thought that they you know they ignored it or something but then I closed the door and I realized it was such a nice interview and I was beating myself for a week after that but it doesn't matter at the end of that those things don't matter because they also know that you are anxious right they have been in the same chair abely some 30 40 years before ago so it was a funny experience for me but it turned all all ended well so I'm but I think after you got to know that the lady who's going to interview has already interviewed a friend of yours so you were comfortable I was very comfortable yeah that made you comfortable there has to be one point which actually gives you some sense of calm and then you go like so when you walk inside you are all fine because they make you very comfortable they do they they ask me breakfast uh how was it did you have tea do you want something should we get you tea biscuit something so they make you very comfortable because they know the kind of work that you have put in and they know that you don't want to you know spoil it so they know that you are anxious so they are very mindful also and they're good people they want to talk to you yeah they look forward to it so they're aware that you've given attempts they aware of everything right your past marks and everything yes not the not the upsc marks but they ask for so we don't know still we don't know the kind of sheet that they they have we just prepare our DS and go certainly but we don't know exactly okay so um I would like you to list down the most important part of preparing so the most important topics and the part that you think is necessary to score good in upsc the best and the most important three things according to you essay ethics important because you can actually score really well in these exam and they are the most neglected papers all right those will the best of my so I think focs if you're not doing these three papers well then it'll be tough to make that cut in the list because to get your service you have to make that cut so I think you should focus on this in especially I would just say preparation practice and people don't write essays full l practice that amounts to 18 essays just between prels and I us to write two essays every alternate week okay because 400 sensible words coherently is not an easy job absolutely so I would just urge everyone who's watching this that start writing ESS do not wait for the good time we wait for the time last because lab is so huge so things like essay you can start writing essay even now when you start preparing your essay may not be as rich in information as someone else but at least it will give you the Knack of writing 12200 sensible words in 3 hours right a half hour so that's the only advice I want to give for it ethics already but be very sure these three pillars of essay ethics and optional should work in your favor all right so um you were working you said you were working and at that time you could not prepare well so there are certain mistakes that you made so there are so many people who are working and they're still preparing for these exams so what are the things that you think are very important when you're having a job and you want to prepare as well so you think that you made mistakes that other people should not while working right so my job was very much demanding in sense that it required my physical presence there I was not in an IT industry and I can you know so I had to be on the project side so by the time I used to come back also I used to cook for myself so what you first of all people who are working they should realize that they do have less time as compared to others who are not working so they have to do something different to make to make up for the time that they don't have so smart it can be used at five places and do not if you have a case study so for example anthropology what matters a lot is that if you have relevant case studies relevant examples relevant diagrams case study anthropology multiple topics so Char them out now and then topic so your brain can make that connection so that is smart work apart from that uh um I mean even if you're working you should give 4 hours 4 to 5 hours every day minimum that's a bare minimum so what I used to do is bus so I used to read my newspaper in the bus I used to um te so I used to you know make online notes in that so constantly even when you're working upsc is somewhere behind your mind and you're always working on it and I would say if you're deciding to leave your job first test yourself test your waters for a 3 4 months by doing what I did that even if you are you know giving in 3 to 4 hours after 8 hour long day and cooking for 1 and a half hours that means you really want it and when you realize it that's a point that you can convince yourself to quit it so I tested myself for three months like this and I realized that I really wanted because I've never worked that hard for anything in my life and then when that realization came email dra and I ended up quitting in July because I had to take it took me 3 months to have the courage to ASP he wants to quit and he has written it email but he's not able to send it so I relate to that but I think people who are working M friend aush he he's ranked 29 this year he has cracked this exam while working throughout wow so H he has already been on this show so you can as well go there and watch his strategy lovely so um we want to know your everyday routine or your weekly routine that you have set for yourself to crack this exam did you had any routine yes I had I'm a very big shedule so my routine was simple first of all I used to count the number of hours I'm studying there are people who say that don't count them but I don't you know agree with that belief I feel like this is like a project that you're working on consider this as a day job because there's a there's an opportunity cost that you are paying while working for this mon academics but you are paying a certain cost so if you're paying a certain cost work hard enough to make it worth right so keeping that in mind I used to count the number of hours so my work hour used to be like 10 when I was working in the industry so I to make sure at least I'm putting in 9 hours in studying and I should count that because by the end of the day when I see in my phone application it used to become you cannot use it when that application is on you can focus on your studies because you're not using a phone you are on your study table if you're getting off you pause the time get off take your tea break come back then you switch on the time wow so I used to myself because because when you're working in an industry you are Mastered by someone else your boss tells you what to do and I was working in Industry numic you know what what and all of that but now you are your own Taskmaster so I used to consider my room as my workplace my desk as my working desk myself as my own boss my plan which I used to make and I had a whiteboard in which I used to write it every morning and I wanted to be Dam sure that I'm following that plan if I'm not following that plan I will punish myself with a lot of guilt so I had a lot of guilt when I'm not following it soed I used to study mostly at night okay until the exam is approaching so when the exam used to approach I used to reverse my cycle towards it because my brain has to has to work bioc clock has to work well so I used to sleep at right 3: and at night uh but then I used to sleep at 3: every day it's not like it was 3 every day and then I used to wake up at like 10:00 91 then as in when I was up after freshening up my day started with newspaper so I used to be on my table I used to eat breakfast on my table my mother has a big role to play in my preparation because she gave all the support that she could have and because of her only I think I was able to crack it so she used to give me food everything on the table lunch time by that time I already started my subject so I used to have this in my mind primary subject that I'll give majority of my day to it that's around 5 hours one and a half hours Newser primary subject that can be my optional that can be quality or whatever I'm reading then I'll have a extra time to solve daily mcqs for prels I used to solve 30 mcqs every day throughout the year wow regardless of what's going on so now you multiply 30 by you get 900 right multip by 12 till prelims you're solving so many mcqs and this you started from the first year itself I started after failing the first PR second oh nice and somehow even when you don't know that uh but in subconscious mind and it's somewhere it you know it sticks to you and when it appears again in your paper you might as well Mark it right so and half but it used to be very strict for me yeah and you have always followed it I've always follow even now I have a schedule so my batchmates uh they make fun of me in U ssfs that every day my every day looks same it starts with the same breakfast every day I don't eat flavors at all in breakfast same breakfast every day classes about same workout same room cleaning same book reading same sub same so I'm sort of a schedule buff who keeps making his own schedule and following them and that really helps it helps yeah so the there's a huge part of revision and retaining the content that you read everything that you process so how did you do that and how frequently you revised your content revision is very important um how frequent revise I used to revise with test papers basically okay as far as the time of non- exam time is concerned exam time January pram okay in that time you can experiment you can work on new things so for me nonion basic for example I am studying po iy so I will start giving one one hour every day for a week to revise geography once and then I'll give paper again if I realize then I'll give that one hour to that it used to be very very very defined so I used to follow that and uh what were your challenges that you fa through your preparation time like challenges you had to cook job when it came to the second year problems okay can I be candid on this one please okay so I was not the part of ecosystem in I Was preparing from malard only at my home so I was sort of disconnected with the pr group grp because preparation is a big time suffering I'm telling you so you feel like it's [Music] okay and you feel a little homely AB but when you're alone right that's when you realize that you are this isolated person in the Sea of this aspirant spread over the country and how does it matter you feel that insignificance so because I did not have this strong support system so I had to go through a lot of mental health issues which is a very sticking point for me for anyone who's preparing that you have to take care of a mental health because it went downhill for me I was at one point of time on medication for a long time so I till last year I think to 2023 February no March when I gave my interview I got off my uh anxiety medications so yeah or I'm not alone I'm someone who's speaking it from here but a lot of people you will find and they will resonate with me when they'll watch with this video point which people don't talk about because they think that you know this will project them as someone who's weak but they go through it every other day because in this you are literally working day in day out for 300 plus days to perform in those 2 hours the kind of pressure is huge say mental health issues are bound to come in so you have to you know continue a hobby I play guitar and I used to sing and you know I used to learn all sorts of new thing I used to work work out regularly because of weight gain because you just sitting and studying so I used to make up make it make it a point so mental health issues were one of the big challenges that I faced second one was Financial issues for me because my father had already retired from uh he was a section officer in AMU he retired in 2015 and he was on pension and I was someone who was earning for the family and I decided to quit my job so pressure and I couldn't do it for a very long time that's why I wanted to you know get away from it this year so what Financial issues be but I had save a certain amount of money which I was using constantly which ran out I ran out of that money then I uh took you know loan from my friends uh who are actually very important for me uh one of my very good friend isan is there you know Asar is there uh sham is there and these people have played a very important part in my story as well as my brother Fahad my elder brother because the kind of support that they give you right you cannot even ask for that support from other people so till date I am actually in the process of returning the amount that they have given me so these issues were actually major issues for me for um I think mental health challenges was one of the biggest stone that I had to move to prepare for this exam and this is something for like I just want to say for people who are preparing and going through this that you can even get through through this exam even if you're facing such grave issues like I did and I still do but it has gotten better over time this is really some sensitive topic that you've spoken about and we're really happy because especially now it's easier for you but there are people who cannot talk about this so I'm sure they'll really have some support system from your conversation as well that is very important okay moving on uh what were your mistakes that you'll say that okay so first of all UMES attitude or second technical exams mistakes so attitude never have never cultivate a complaining attitude when you are inside then you start complaining about everything best answer sometimes these things you know stop your growth and you cultivate a lot of negativity in yourself which doesn't really help because it's my choice that I'm writing this exam right so either write it without complaining or just don't write it this may sound brutal to a lot of people but this is the reality if you are complaining about something constantly you don't have a right to complain because you have chosen that path yourself you knew it's going to be T you knew it's going to be demanding but still you want to do it so now if you're doing it better do it without complaining because you are just making it tougher for yourself so attitud change secondly never thought that you were writing the best answer never think that you were writing the best answers second attempt when I wrote my me I I thought I've written the best means ever but when the marks came I realized people are writing such better answers than me so many better answers than me so the process of learning stops when you when you finally you know you reach a point when you think best so attitude I mean strive for excellence try to read as many copies from toppers from others who are writing the answer try to learn something from other others as well you are doing well cool but then learn from others as well otherwise you will just fall behind so attitude technical mistakes I would just say never wait for the right moment to write test that point is never going to come make a schedule for for writing a test every week once you're done with your cabus once once and just write it write a bad answer but write it write a bad essay but write it score bad in marks but at least score so don't wait for that right moment start working on it because once you start writing the answers right you realize a lot of things that you have been reading they you are not even able to use them so why are you reading them them when you start applying those things so solve as many mcqs as you can never consider yourself over or never shy away from hard work because this exam is all about hard work you can do as much smart work as you can but if you have not worked hard you're going to fall out of the Lo absolutely so uh since syllabus is so [Music] you know know that you're on track right I think because if you're covering the basic sources you know that that should be the point when you should realize because if you see previous questions so stick to your own sources do not go here and there so as long as you stict to your own sources first you are solving papers do not evaluate completely on the basis of the marks that you're getting but you should be able to solve at least the questions which are coming from the sources that you are reading that means I'm going wrong I need to go back and stand in my fundamentals so for me mock tests were also were always this uh way to check my preparation and path to and you keep on working on that path again and again do not deviate here and there so you had selected all the books previously content this is what I'm going to read and I'm not going to get confused or diverted from I I can add something value to my answers if I read this Source I did not change my source at all but did not change my S all together and uh notes though you always made notes were notes always made I am the note guy you know this trend which started on Instagram this guy Tech Technologies or something start so I am the guy who notes I just make a lot of notes not and notes are my you know weapon to weapon in this war of upsc notes were my weapon I wrote a lot of notes one thing that was your inspiration throughout the three years the three attempts journey I think it was the hope that my and the belief that my mom had in me so that is one thing that is so because my mom so second attempt I just had 4 days to attempt my third uh Wala and I was so broken I did not want to write it and I was crying and then my mom told me that uh attempt and this bar you'll get a two two digit rank so I told my [Music] mom hard work I did not even get to the list she said just give one more attempt so I gave that attempt and I don't know how it got through and I got a twoed rank this year but I think the belief that my mother had in me throughout and the support of my friends I think think belief or hope I was driven constantly that if they can trust in me why can't I do the same so this was all about academics it was lovely knowing so much from you and your whole journey for 3 years now we have a rapid fire for you okay are you ready I hope so I'm sure you're very quick the first question for your rapid fire is if you had a chance to change your name what would your new name be and why Arian Arian yeah I don't know I just I think no reason for that no reason for that yeah okay if you could know the absolute and the total truth to one question what would that question be is their life apart from Earth is the life on another planet or something I am interested in space a lot space interesting what's the most interesting thing that you have read or seen this year uh I think uh scene may I all my experiences from laas now uh those are the best thing but that's practically last year last year so this year I'm yet to have that experience I think but I would still count my laas this year perfect what is the most important object that you own most important object that I own it will be uh I think my family picture my mother and my father and my brother that I have beside my bed all always nice what job would you be absolutely horrible at dancing what movie has everyone seen but you have not seen it yet everyone's seen a lot of movies I don't watch movies at all you name a movie I would have watched it no that I with her relative exactly I would say godfather I've not was okay what is your dream job and what makes it so amazing I am uh in the process to get my to my dream job uh what makes it amazing is that it gives you a lot of space to grow intellectually I am set to travel across countries to meet a lot of people to taste a lot of new kind new Cuisines new food see a lot of places so I think that Curiosity and uncertainty drives me towards this what is that one thing that people can do it easily but you find it very difficult cooking I am a very nice cook you should you should try that sometime I'm actually good at cooking but um driving I just drive and I tried I tried to learn and I realiz I am I am not good at driving okay if you had the world's attention for 30 seconds what would you say the entire worlds uh I would just say that uh everyone should consider peace as a word to look forward to because uh regardless of where you are where whichever country you belong to whichever race religion cast whatever it should not boil to a point where you come to a point where you want to kill another human being so that should be the last thing that everyone should that should be the you know deal breaker for them so they should consider like is it really worth killing someone if it's not then why are you doing it for whatever reasons yeah if you had to work but didn't need the money what would you choose to do I would have been a musician fulltime musician wow would you leave your hometown forever or stay in your hometown forever I leave it with my family not without them of course is there any app that you hate but you use it anyway Instagram what is the stupidest thing you have done on your own free B okay after I cleared after I gave my uh second prelims I went on a 17-day long trip I was I thought that I'll not clear it but I ended up clearing it so I wasted 17 days but that is only a to preparation the most stupid things I've done in my life all right what's something you've tried but that you'll never try ever again something called as fruit fruit chai yeah what is that don't try it it's bad if you could change one thing about your upbringing what would that be nothing nothing when things break do you prefer to fix them or replace them I prefer to fix them and also um this idea they I read this idea called kin sui which says that whenever something breaks down you replace them and you join them with a golden lacquer and not so that you can actually you know you can wear that as your pride and not hide the falls that you had in the in your life beautiful what what are you most looking forward to in the next 10 years I'm looking forward to traveling to a lot of places with my mother and uh there is a certain kind of iconic picture that we both take so I'm planning to take it at different locations and make make an album out of it the same picture yeah the same POS the same POS yeah perfect the next thing that I want to the next place where I want to do that will be in Paris I already have that in my mind wow what is something that you learned this year I um I think I learned to be to be grounded because whenever you know some things some good things happen in your life you tend to leave your roots and you tend to become come to a place where you think that you have achieved a lot but then you look back at your journey and then you realize that it did not happen overnight you worked hard for it and there is nothing outwardly about it and then you look up to your seniors and you feel like they know so much more than you this regardless and they are still so humble so what Authority do you have to not be humble today if you could learn any language fluently what would that language be friends I'm also you know trying to get as that as my uh language langage I don't know if I'll get it but let's see all the best yeah what is that one food that you would never give up on Biryani yeah so that was your rapid fire thank you so much for being so rapid and so candid you are amazing this is for you thank you w thank you so much and one last thing that we want from you is any last message for all the aspirants out there my two cents on this is that it's going to be tough okay this is not an easy place to be first of all congratulations on the fact and Pat your back that you have taken uh an initiative to pursue one of the toughest things that you'll ever do in your life till now I think and uh just don't give up on the roads where you come from find your support in your family and your friends to go through this preparation thirdly please take care of your mental health because that is one of the most most important things that you cannot afford to lose because no exam is bigger than your own well-being mental or physical so I've seen people and myself who were who who have had a really bad time uh managing your mental my mental health through this preparation so give importance to this exam but not as much that you'll end up compromising on something that is more relevant to your life and lastly do not give up this is going to be an uphill downhill sort of a graph there will be days when you'll not feel like studying at all there will be days when you feel like studying 14 hours a day take both of them equally never get too happy never get too sad just move on an average path and this exam is actually an exam which rewards the person who is most average out of all the all the people because you are not supposed to be excellent at certain thing you just have to be very consistent and disciplined in doing the most obvious thing that others are doing so all the best for this exam and I hope that you'll make it through soon thank you so much for your wise words we were really happy to listen to everything that you said I'm sure they're going to have a good time watching you and they'll be highly motivated after this thanks a lot thank you so much thank you so before we wrap it up I would like you to tag a Topper which we always do this is your turn to tag a toer so I want to tag one of my very dear
