Criminal Lawyer Reacts to NBA YoungBoy - Bring The Hook

[Music] hi this is bruce rivers welcome to another episode of criminal lawyer reacts i'm bruce rivers board certified criminal defense lawyer just got back from federal court and uh let's see here what happens in federal court well a lot of times your clients get uh taken into custody uh because there is a presumption sometimes that your client be held in custody and then when there's that presumption there's but it's a rebuttable presumption what does that mean that means the defense all of a sudden has the burden to show that there's a condition or set of conditions that can be put in place to assure that the person will show up for uh court and guarantee the safety of the public right well member uh nba young boy was on the run and doing some crazy stuff and got taken into custody for a while and the judge in louisiana uh revisited that because they his lawyers and team put it together a condition or set of conditions that uh said okay we can make him you know safe and he'll appear to court we got a studio set up and we're gonna put him in utah where he's not gonna be with any of his uh compatriots and he and we'll have a curfew and all this other stuff and so the judge bought it and they said okay go ahead well and i don't know of any violations of his conditional release which is good because once you violate then then you don't get a second bite at that apple however he is uh recording and he's out with a new song called uh bring the hook i haven't seen this yet so so let's dive into it let's see what uh what kind of things mr youngboy has to say while he's on supervised release [Music] so what do we know about nba young boy we know he got caught with guns we know he got this you know and he's he's got some criminal history and he likes guns he starts out with saying it's a murder business so you know this is going to be drill you i'm just right off the bat you know it's going to be drilled and keep in mind he's on supervised release and remember what i said before these words that you come up with can be jammed up your ass later and i know it's art you know there's a fine line between art and life is life imitating art it's hard imitating life but while you are sitting there you know this is your personality coming through the music right and what do you think a judge is gonna say when it's time to get sentenced and they hear it's a murder business [Music] we be them [ __ ] gravediggers um this gun was bought just uh to kill fellas so i mean we're not even into the first verse yet i mean through the first verse and uh paul bear is going to bring your body to the grave we leave him slayed fella uh it ain't an open casket we left his [ __ ] brain to miss it now that is some really dark [ __ ] um you think about that and your honor what he really meant by this was uh mr youngboy is uh just concerned with about being a brain surgeon and no there's only one way you can take this stuff and it is it is cold it is cold as [ __ ] but what else would we expect you know my brother sell that boy and you know boy his hair and if it's not heroin it's pure cocaine cocaine sometimes it's called girl no we distributors i mean he's on supervised release but it's artifact [Music] you know actually that's good advice don't aim it just shoot it you know uh when you are shooting uh you shoot for center mass you don't have time to you know line up your sights you just shoot for center mass so this is good advice coming from mr young boys [Music] feds know your name and they've locked you up in chains and you keep this [ __ ] up you're gonna stay in chains a homicide to take a second [ __ ] blame we leave our teddy bears right there while he bleeding we aiming with them straps would leave you clap right where we see you you know first of all don't you kind of like i mean he he kind of sounds like uh young and ace a little bit in a sense i i that's what i hear uh but i mean there's similarities to the jackson sound jacksonville sound and this sound um but it and it is cold now if i'm the judge and i oh mr young boy has got a a new uh production out let's listen to it and he's talking about utah and what is utah you tell us where he is that's where he was confined to utah with a lot of pounds with me uh where you are hoe at well first of all he's on uh what do you call it a restriction he could only have certain people over like one person or two people i can't remember exactly what it was but with a lot of pounds with me now unless he's talking maybe he's talking about a woman who's particularly uh well endowed or you know heavy or whatever i don't think that's what he's talking about especially when the prior uh verse talks about um boy and girl i see souls i'm with my kids get them [ __ ] bodies out of here so i mean so you he you got more and more uh red beam aiming for the head man um it is not um a bucolic golf course scene i can tell you that but we don't have a video so we don't have him uh you know doing the pop pop pops um so from that standpoint it's good but he's also really restricted to his quarters so he says fella uh this that squid game o block pack got rolled up murder what they told us atlanta boy get fold up now that's a specific reference uh to king vaughn and you remember that lil tim is associated with the nba young boy and lil well tim where is he he's sitting in atlanta waiting for his murder trial so that's a that's a real direct um disc line and see one of the things when you're sitting in a lockup you're supposed to be reflective reflect of your situation your life's choices and what he's doing here this is a diss track no question about it and you know having a judge i don't know if this judge is going to look at this or not if if i'm the prosecutor i guarantee you i'm watching everything this guy does um but i'm not a prosecutor so and if i'm the defense lawyer i'm saying this is art but i think a judge would really not take too kindly to uh inflaming uh already high high high gang tensions with a diss track and in fact i might have made it one of his conditions to not do that you know and now i keep that murder bag what's a murder bank uh right on a murder bag right on my you know it's probably a what do you call it a body bag leave a toe tag inside the freezer where the people put them for this uh stitch his ass um you really just thought i mean the more they talk about death in these songs the more it just sounds like serial killers and they're just like get off on uh and i'm as cruel as i can [ __ ] be i'm gonna be that guy [ __ ] know that's my side yo talk call me a [ __ ] [ __ ] crazy i i think it's probably wrong for him to keep referring to utah yeah utah come here [ __ ] get hogtied another died oh lord man this means crazy i mean he's self-snitching in a sense but i i i it just doesn't sound respectful for his position that he's in [ __ ] you know i pull out plenty of uh killings you know that uh we keep plenty pistols that alone would be enough for probation to go to his house and search the house i i would think um but this is who he is and this is kind of this is his genre of music so um i can i can totally see how um his lawyers would be successful in saying no this is just a art judge i got locked inside the pin but now i'm out it sounds almost taunting to the judge in the process a little bit a little bit it doesn't [Applause] he does have some pretty good visualization uh of imagery that he creates [Music] [Music] don't trust young boy cause he ain't right well that's that is self-snitching i mean that is probably as right as anything i've heard um because he just isn't learning from whatever and it's just when you are when you are staring down the barrel of the federal government's power and you flaunt it with [ __ ] like this um it just isn't going to end well for you [ __ ] kitchen while you [ __ ] walking [ __ ] that's why i talked on fly you know that i'm a hawker make those people outline shock him um or catch him while he's [ __ ] walking uh live this [ __ ] that's why i talk it i mean one of the things that artists do is they they they write i mean about their personal likes you hear some of these love songs where somebody's you know complaining about getting broken up oh they take it from their own life right well and he's just going on and on about killing killing killing and you can take me at my word i [ __ ] kill you [ __ ] i mean it's it is what it is uh i mean uh when do you see that beam headshot that's a scully scene i mean i if this was my client i would be pulling my [ __ ] hair out but you know why they're not pulling their hair out because this is paying his lawyers [Music] i'm high as a [ __ ] so what do we have in this beautiful piece of art that uh that would would be worrisome to us lawyers we got all kinds of pistols up here in utah two things two main things well that's one of them and uh i'm high as a [ __ ] well they're probably testing i i would bet um but that certainly would be grounds for uh for somebody to to test him anyway i i i look at this from uh kind of more of a conservative uh criminal defense standpoint of what are the problems i have to worry about when a client does this this or this you know i've got clients that are supposed to be in treatment all of a sudden they [ __ ] off and and and don't get in treatment and the deal that i had cut for him gets totally um blown away because of their behavior uh and that's what i would worry about here you know he's a young guy and um but if this is just art and he's being monitored closely and you know it's it's not the best sentiments as you head start heading for sentencing if that's where he's headed but uh but if that's what he's doing is just making music regardless of the content um that's where his lawyers want him so he's off the street and just doing this so this has been my reaction to nba young boy bring the hook
