hi guys it's cindy welcome back to my channel thanks for coming back i have a little bit of a different video today it is going to involve a tutorial but it's based off of somebody else's work and i'm going to link put the link below i decided to sign up for an arts fair it's a craft crafts festival but it's a juried show so they have to look at your work and approve it first so i submitted a couple of my handmade books and i'm going to be participating in this sako main street arts festival at the end of june i believe it's june 25th it's whatever that saturday is i should have looked that up before i before i came into my studio but if you live in maine please please please come by and say hello there will be a the scrapologist will have a booth there and mom will probably be there too who helps me out with the shop but will not appear on camera she won't even show her hands so you're going to see the whole thing if you stop by our booth at the arts festival but this is something a little different for me some people do start out doing craft fairs and have some success with that and eventually move into maybe an online shop or a store or something like that i'm kind of going about it backwards i started out with my etsy shop maybe 10 years ago i'm not sure and never really felt the need to do any craft fairs or arts fairs but this year with um with everything that's been going on with with covid and the stress that that's creating and the isolation i really felt like i needed to do this for myself i need something to look forward to i need a new goal to work towards it's an outdoor festival with music and food and and beautiful artwork and my soul so needs this right now and i bet a lot of you do too so so anyway the reason why i bring that up is because i don't normally do craft fest festivals and i don't really have um products in the lower price range at these festivals it's a good idea to have a number of different price points and i do have different price points in my shop my digitals are you know under five dollars but then everything else is five dollars up to it could be 200 to 250 for a custom order so i needed some things under that five dollar price point so i was looking around on youtube for different craft fair ideas and came across lyric love lyric love or lyric lover crafts i'm not very prepared for this video but i'm going to put the link below and she had a couple of ideas and um of things that she does she does um and this year she's doing an online crafts fair too which you might want to check out but um the reason i loved her ideas is because number one i can make them for under make and sell them for under five dollars but also i have the ability to use up a lot of my scraps scraps i'm trying to destash as much as possible um i've accumulated too much stuff it's all valuable stuff none of it is cheap you know i'm not one of those people that impulse buys i had a reason for buying this much stuff but i haven't been able to keep up with it and i want to use up my scraps so i'm going to show you a couple of things that that that i made how they turned out and definitely check out her tutorial down below i'm going to do a little tutorial too because i think my technique is just slightly different but not much i pretty much used use the recommendations that she had and she's she's really good at the tutorials too she's really good at explaining and showing you how to do how to do these things so let me switch the camera view and i will show you some of what i'm making and then we'll do a couple of tutorials okay okay so the first thing that where'd it go oh here the first thing that she showed how to make was these darling little notepads and they once they're in the cellophane she even gives you the information on uh where to buy the cellophane she's just really generous with her information so that's the other reason why i like this i didn't have to do a lot of digging in terms of well what size bag should i get and stuff like that so these are just little pads of paper that i've covered with my scrap paper they're chipboard covers they have three sets of lined paper inside and you cover the inside with the same and then put a note card on the outside stick it in a stick it in a bag and you're good to go and i'll put that back later so i have this one i've only made a few so far i need to kind of sit in front of the tv isn't that pretty this paper was just so beautiful but i only had a couple of sheets left and this is just the perfect thing to do with it and you just buy little pocket cards and put them on and then this was kind of a fun one as well it's a little too glaring i guess but let me um okay i had to stop for a minute because they were there was a myriad of ambulances and fire trucks and stuff going by it got quite noisy i bought this whole case of of um these paper pads these were actually from the dollar tree and that's again she gave up her source she she um this video was two or three years old but they still have these and they come with five pads of paper so you can you get actually three um products out of one pad of paper that was a dollar so i bought a case of 50 and actually there was a problem with my order because they only sent me 40 so i'm trying to i'm trying to get them to send me the other 10 and i that i paid for and they're not getting back to me okay so oh look how crooked did i just bump that sorry i bump it with the box oh all right so um that's one thing are these little these little pads and i'm going to be able to sell these for three to 350 a piece and i think that that's a reasonable price for that then you take the other paper pads and you make these little mini wallets that i'm going to sell for probably a dollar fifty it has just a belly band on it and then you open it up and there's one of the pieces of the pad of paper so out of one pad of paper you can make one of these and two of these all for a dollar pad of paper now um i felt that her prices were a little too low because once you factor in your little piece of scrap paper your embellishment and your plastic bag or in this case your your paper your pocket card and your bag you still have to charge more than what you spent so um i'm bumping my prices up a little bit from from hers and that's not a criticism it's just um i know how much all of this cost me and so this is going to be a dollar fifty and the others are going to be 350. so i made a whole bunch of these again these were just scraps 12 by 12 pieces of paper that i had around and i think that they just look lovely so even though i want things at a cheaper price point than what i normally sell at i still don't want junk that doesn't mean i want to sell junk in my shop i still have a reputation and you know wanna my reputation is based on quality and i want to make sure that it stays that way so so these were put together with a lot of thought and care but it didn't cost a lot for the materials excuse me the other thing excuse me that she had such a good idea on is these little sorry for the glare i should probably should have taken them out first these little excuse me mini pads of paper excuse me and i just put them together just like she did with yarn and then i bought a whole bunch of of um little little metal charms some of these i already had that most of these i bought on amazon for 10 bucks it was 200 for 10 bucks so um i was able to add a pretty little charm and it's a little notebook and all she did for these i don't think i have one i don't want to undo one but all she did i thought i had one kind of made maybe not is you just take these pads of paper that are 120 sheets four and a half by six and a half it's a great use of these little paper pads and these were half off at at hobby lobby this is april 2021 excuse me and the the few i've gone several times this month to pick up some odds and ed's than i needed and they still have these papers so hello darling that was really nice i got some of that in uh 12 12x12 back in when they first came out with this the hello darling and then the paper studio country road um pads and there's 120 sheets and these were five dollars these were half off all of the paper studio products were or half off so i bought a bunch of these and then i bought this pretty petals cardstock um this is cardstock so it's a little thicker and i'm using this thicker cardstock look at how beautiful it is for my covers now um lyric lover craft she used just regular paper for her covers i wanted mine to be a little more substantial so all you do with this is i sat in front of the tv last night with my bone folder and i just folded them in half and now i'm going to get it i'm going to round my corners this is just a real quick tutorial here because it's so simple i'm going to round all my corners usually i'll watch a movie or listen to a podcast or something i'll round all of these and then i took one of the pieces of cardstock and folded it in half and rounded the corners now with the cardstock i do use my score machine to score it in half with these i just fold them but with the cardstock i use my score machine my score score pal so that the edges don't fray because with cardstock sometimes that will happen if you just fold so scored it in half and then you just put all of these inside i have about 10 sheets in each booklet you put them in there and then um i guess i brought my stapler back to my office and then you just put two staples right in the center and close it up and you have little booklets so that is that simple and you know look how look how pretty they are well i'll take one out here not that big of a deal to put it back in but so i put two two kinds in each in each pack these again are going to be a buck and a quarter probably around that around that much but it's got all these pretty papers but on one side you have room for journaling or photos and you can see the staples i just did two staples and they're just cute little tiny notebooks such a nice little wallet size too so i made again um i had a whole bunch of these this size paper pads that i didn't really know what to do with so i made um so i used them up along with the ones i just showed you from hobby lobby and they're just all so pretty and they look professional there's a cute one look at that cute little charm a little t-shirt with a heart on it and there's a there's a leaf and these these i got for like i said cheap cheap it on amazon a little pink pelican i thought went well with with that patterned paper so this is all i have done so far for those i have a lot more to do oh i did have another i did have a book to show you right here but i kind of and i kind of stapled together this was a another spare pad that i had so i have a lot more to make this is only a one day event but i want to make sure that i have enough supplies to uh to sell out hopefully so let me start the little tutorial on how to um how to make these paper pads and how to make the wallets and like i said you can um go over to lyric lover crafts as well and watch her tutorial i enjoyed it it was it was very good and she gives you lots of ideas for for craft fairs so let's get started okay so this is such a great project to get rid of your scraps i have a whole bunch of strips that are three and a half inches wide i must have been making some kind of project that used an eight and a half section and so i have all these left over and your paper needs to be three and a half inches wide so i'm going to use up as much of this as i can the only problem with using the scraps like this is that i don't have enough paper to cover the inside and the outside with the same scrap of paper so i'm just going to try to find ones that coordinate like these go well together i'm gonna have to cut that perforation off at the top on that one and i think these go well together i'll just start out with those actually these go really nice together and these okay i have all these little strips that i don't need okay so the um you need three pieces of paper the first needs to be three and a half by ten and a half and i'm just cutting off this has a little perforation on it this paper might not work because of that perforation i had to cut it's not going to be exactly three and a half let me see you have to lift this up hold on yeah that's not gonna work because i had to cut the little perforation off so now it's only like three and seven eighths which is gonna look messy so let me get two other sheets of paper but i do not have to cut that off all right let's use these okay so these are three and a half and by ten and a half whoops didn't mean to have both of those in there which do i want for the cover i think this one's more interesting for the cover okay so this is the cover and it's going to be three and a half by ten and a half and i'll just save that for making a tag or something later that goes over my little scrap pile and three and a half by ten and a half that's the cover and then i have this that excuse me kind of coordinates with it and i'm going to cut this down by three and a half by five and you need two of those and i'm gonna save that for collaging and tags and whatnot so the pads that i bought come in two different colors i didn't see any other colors um and by the way i got these online and i did ship to store to try to keep the cost down so you can i didn't realize you can buy on the dollar tree you can buy online so i have a kind of a brightish yellowish orange and a blue so i think for this one i'm going to go with the blue all right so this has like i said five um five pads of paper and i thought what she did with this was just so clever so you just pull the front one off but leave the chipboard and we're going to use this for the wallet and then then you want two more pieces here with the chipboard wait a minute two or three i forgot how many is in uh three sorry we're gonna do three because it's a chunky notebook so three leaving the chipboard hold this one off okay so now you have two leftovers that are going to be uh that i'm going to make the wallet one out of one has no chipboard on the back but that's okay because we're going to attach a little piece of chipboard and this one does have support on the back so so what you have is a little mini notebook that already has a cover the um [Music] the complicated thing that i ran into is that these are really crooked i don't know if you can see like right here let me see if i can zoom in yeah so do you see this right there so it's all wonky they did not make these really plum so the first one that i made when i wrapped because see what we're going to do is we're going to wrap this paper around but if it's wonky then when you get to the back it ends up going on really crooked i'm exaggerating here but it ends up going on crooked like this and um it was driving me nuts so i'm borrowed my mother's t-square and i don't know if you can see that but there's just a huge gap right here and i just try to push it to get it to be nice and square and i do that on both sides and this seemed to really help because it it does seem to push back into square mode so now we want to cover both sides including the top here with double-sided tape or you can use glue i like to make sure that this is kind of neat on the top that there's not any glue sticking up so oops sorry this so that you don't have any like bubbles and or anything like that okay and i'm going to cover this in double-sided tape do [Music] normally when i do this part what i do is i actually put this in between i'm standing at my station um and my workbench so i put this in between my belly and my workbench to hold it in place when i'm when i'm working on the edge of something it just makes it easier than trying to balance it upright like this but i'm trying to so i'm gonna do the second one like that but i'm not showing you that because you don't want to see my belly okay so then we're gonna take this piece of paper and without taking the tape off first i just like to go like this and feel with my fingers to make sure that it's completely even and then i take my bone folder i think this is a little different than what she does but you know we we all have our different little favorite techniques and i just kind of crease it right there it slipped a little bit okay make sure it's hold it really tight pull it taut and make sure it's okay on this side nope it slipped okay and just make sure that it is going to fit that it is not that you did level it with the t-square if you feel you need to do that so then i just like to do one side at a time and you have to be really precise with this because if you start going a little crooked when you wrap it around it's going to be crooked oh [Laughter] speaking of being precise i just wrapped it around oh and that came off we have to be careful of that okay we're finding out things so interesting that fell right off so that's okay because we have tape up here and that's going to hold it on all right so so let's pretend that our front is still glued on i took my tape off the spine i'm just gonna press that down nicely might be easier to use this actually that's yeah that's awesome okay and then tape off this side pull it tight so that it goes even and there we go and burnish the whole thing and even so i have a teeny weeny piece of the chipboard showing there which i will have to do something about i'll either i'll probably ink it or put a little trim on the bottom it's really hard to get these perfect because they're not they're not made perfectly they're dollar store quality to start with so but that's that's pretty so there we have a little chunky notebook and then what you want to do for the inside is take your other sheets of paper and you're going to glue it to the inside cover now you do have to take off and you can see here see there's a little bit there so you do have to go through and kind of trim up a little bit but you have to take off like a like a hair off the top so that this doesn't interfere with opening and closing the book so take off literally a hair off of both of these like i took off that much and even that's a little too much but it's okay and then make sure it fits perfect and then just glue or tape it to your inside covers i think that for oops i don't want that you don't want to put your tape all the way up to the edge because remember you're going to have just a little hair it's not showing i think that it's important just because you're making something out of your scraps and just because you're going to be selling it for two or three dollars doesn't mean that you um give give up your quality so that's why i am going to take the time to to trim these up and make sure that they're just perfect because that's just um i don't want to be seen as just a and there's nothing wrong with this it's just i'm just at it at a certain level with my shop where i don't want to be seen as one of those people that just sells my hobby at christmas craft fairs kind of thing um i i want to be known for the quality of my product everything you get is going to be my best work and that makes me feel proud and it makes me feel good about what i'm doing and what i'm charging and so yeah that's just my little spiel on quality control i guess okay so this is gonna go there and then we're gonna put another one on the back i'll do that off camera you don't need to watch me do that and then i'm going to get one of my little journal cards let's see pocket cards i actually don't really have pocket cards because i never got into that but i have cut aparts from whenever i have cut apart sheets left over from scrapbook paper i cut them apart and i have them i have them that's kind of cute i have them just all cut apart and in a storage container so and i'm just gonna ink around the edges just you know however much you can dress it up just shows your quality all right there okay except for the back that's done and then i just need to put it in my little um glassine bag and and i have another one made a little chunky notebook that i think is adorable okay so then i thought what she did with these was so clever um nothing goes to waste and so we're gonna make the little the little wallets um these little wallets with the belly bands so for these you want um let me find some paper this prima pad is what i've been using to make the little wallets the paper is beautiful like all prima paper but i didn't realize when i bought this it's only six sheets of paper you get four sheets of six different designs six designs is not enough for me to work with if i'm covering a mini album i i can't do i can't use the same sheet of paper um four times so i was very disappointed that they've started doing that i don't know if that's true with all of their paper packs but certainly all of the ones at hobby lobby were were like this six designs times four times so anyway so i i'm using this paper up for these wallets i mean it's gorgeous paper look at that it's got some rose gold on it and um but see i've got just too many of one design i'll cut these apart and i will use them put them in my little bin um but anyway that's just my little spiel on prima i love their stuff but i hope that that's not what they're going to start to do is just give you six designs and still call it a 24 sheet paper pack so you think you're getting what you used to get all right so for this um wallet we're going to cut this down cut the top off here and i'm going to cut two sheets you need nine and a half by five so i'm going to cut this down to nine and a half flip it and cut two sheets at five okay so two sheets because i'm making this one sheet of 12x12 will make two of those wallets so i'm making two at once so two two at nine and a half by five and then for your um let's see and then for your belly band you want eight and a half by one and a quarter and this is why i like double sided paper so this will be our cover and this will be the belly band and it coordinates but it's a little different than the cover so um eight and a half by one and a quarter which is really hard to do on this paper trimmer it's my only complaint about this paper trimmer one and a quarter and i'm actually going to just throw these away and i need one more belly band one and a quarter okay so first we're going to i like to round the corners and i use the little quarter inch on here i also like to round the corners on one edge of my belly band i just think it looks neater totally not necessary i just think when you wrap it around and you have that little rounded part there it just dresses it up a little bit so i'm going to set those aside i'm going to set one of these aside and the first one we're going to do is the easy one because it always already has the chipboard on the back and then we'll put that one aside for later so you need your scoreboard or if you don't have one you can just eyeball it or you can put it in your in your paper trimmer and use your bone folder and score that way so however you like to score things or just use a pencil and and fold it but i like to i like to use the scoreboard okay if you really want to get technical again i i just really like to do things very precisely with very high quality so if you are um if you're using a scoreboard put your cover side down so that when you score your bubbles on the other side and it folds nicer without fraying so you're going to score at three and a quarter and seven and go ahead and fold that so you end up with this isn't that so pretty and then you're just going to glue or tape this chipboard right on to here now yours you see how the score line i'm leaving about an eighth of an inch on either side of that score line you don't want to be all the way up against the score line because then it won't fold you want to put it in the center and leave about an eighth of an inch on either side so to accommodate the width of this i like to go at the top here just to make sure it's nice and even okay put it down and then you need to you need to fold it over the edge and the way that i like to do that is i like to flip it like this and press down and that gives you a nice edge and then i just burnish it a little bit this real simple way to do that rather than do two score lines it's just i just find it easier to do this okay that one didn't go let me do it again all right that one just didn't want to didn't want to fold for me that is one thing prima has good quality paper okay so there we have our little notebook okay this is the top and then we're just going to take our belly band wrap it around i don't pull it taut because if you pull belly bands taut you can't get them on and off so i just keep them i just keep them kind of loose okay and i just put a couple a couple little pieces of tape on the end make sure it's even i don't know why it was working way up here my arms were getting tired reaching like that okay so there's our belly band and because i left it loose it slips on and off really nicely and then we just need a little embellishment and i just picked up a bunch of stickers again from the dollar store they're really pretty i don't normally use stickers in my work so it's kind of fun it was kind of fun shopping for these and i think i will use that you make me happy these are really pretty stickers for a buck i'll be surprised you make me happy there we go isn't that pretty so pretty so for this one all you have to do is we do need a piece of chipboard on one side of it so that it can be an adequate writing pad so um let me get a piece of chipboard forgot to grab one and actually um you don't have to use chipboard you can use some some cardstock you can use the backs of the your covers i would maybe double these up you know glue two together but i have a ton of chipboard scraps from all the mini albums and journals i make so i am just going to use a piece of chipboard so this needs to be three and a half by five the same size as the paper pad and all right another thing she did to to accommodate this which i thought was really clever is she just put tape or glue across this part here instead of gluing the whole sheet down she just put it across here and i thought that that was a really good idea so i'm doing the same thing i'm just putting two pieces like that and i'm gonna adhere it to the chipboard okay so then you just have another pad of paper another thing that she did just to solidify this make this a little more secure was put tape across the top i don't know if i'm going to be able to do this on camera because again this is another um another situation where i use my belly tool use my belly but [Music] she took a piece of tape and just and i'm just going to use my little fold-over technique because i think that's there that was actually better than using my belly okay so now we've got a little just a little bit of tape there this is one time where i'm grateful for the shine and then it just goes across the top trim the excess off okay so now you have another pad and you have your other pieces here so you can make another one of these just the same exact way that we made this it's just that with one one pack one pad from each of these packs you don't have chipboard on the back and you have to you have to um put your own chipboard on so out of one pack of paper i was able to make two wallets and one chunky pad for fro for a little over a buck so thank you lyric lover crafts um it's uh it's really going to help me out help me to i can probably make about a hundred of these and um it's really it's was a really clever idea so let me switch the camera view again okay so that's about all i have for you today i have the links below please uh head over to lyric lover crafts and give her a thumbs up and send her some love and down in my comments below i would love to hear from you are you um in maine and maybe you
