Cozy Cottage Bathroom MAKEOVER + Budget Friendly Using Thrifted Finds!

hello and good morning everybody for me it is Sunday morning we don't do our Sabbath on Sundays because Josh works all day on Sundays I figured I would greet y'all while I was ready for church because I would be probably looking like a hot mess in the rest of this video today we're going to be getting started on our bathroom you guys have probably seen our bathroom from our home tours but I don't show it very often just because it's ugly it just looks bad it's an awkward shape and I honestly have not even thought about doing anything to it because ultimately we would love to make some major changes in this bathroom including like punching out the walls and stuff because I have wanted to do that I really have just ignored this ugly bathroom I think that we thought we were going to be doing these Renovations sooner rather than later but y'all life just gets ahead of us and so I have decided that I am going to make this bathroom into what I want for now so we're not going to do any Renovations going into this next year I just want to have a nice fresh place for us to all get ready that's not such an absolute hot mess let me go ahead and I will take you upstairs and I will show you guys the before and I'll kind of go through with you guys what I'm planning on doing and then we will get started on giving this bathroom a makeover [Music] foreign state of our bathroom so we've got this big Square mirror right here and I don't know how I feel about it if I had my choice I would love to get like a vintage or antique vanity to put it right here but right now I don't think that's a possibility so I actually looked at pulling this out but I saw that this entire piece has been like caulked into the wall you guys I had so many Ambitions for this bathroom so I was hoping to do a vanity here and to do some kind of like bead board but as you guys can see the line of this bathroom is like not even at all I don't know how to use power tools and so I'm just gonna do myself a favor and just not even worry about doing the beadboard rains coating and we're just going to do some paint in here as far as this mirror I would love to switch this out I'm gonna go ahead and see if I can find anything if not I don't know if you can see this down here but I may wind up taking this mirror in here and place it in here instead this light up here I am not a fan of as for this piece right here you guys can see I think it was just put in in the 90s or something it's got nail polish all over it and these ugly knobs I may look for something to replace these but I think I'm just going to paint this so my original idea was to do like a black or something but now that I'm thinking about it I may want to do like a green maybe like this type of green right here so these are the swatches that I put on the walls I'm thinking about doing a blue color up on all of these big walls right here and then possibly doing like a green or a black for this you guys I thought I would show you a true before of what a bathroom looks like that is handled by a five and a seven year old I've got this painting that I thought would be really pretty in here you guys may have seen this I thrifted this for 15 a few months back and I think I would like to kind of Base the colors of this bathroom on this painting so the thing about the blues is that I don't want it to get too dark because this room has no windows in it whatsoever so there's actually floor that goes all the way down to where this roof lined would end so this wouldn't affect the look of the house from the street or anything it would just be on the back of the house I would love to be able to like push this out and then have a squared off roof I know that the angle is cool but honestly there's very little head space and so really you can only walk on like this half of the room without like bumping your head into this we've got these towels that we've had since we got married they're all stained up and just looking bad so ultimately I would love if we could close this all off and make this whole area the shower and then actually behind this shower we've got a beautiful window behind here but it was covered up in a renovation in order to put this back bathroom on a second level so I would ultimately again not in this video but I would ultimately love to open up that window again get some windows on this side of the wall then do you know vanity toilet and cabinets and stuff all over on this side so for now I'm going to take a look at these swatches and figure out which ones I am going to paint let me know if there's one that really stands out to you okay good morning everybody it is the next day I am just about to go out to my car to get the paint that I bought yesterday I don't know about you guys but sometimes the hardest part for me when it comes to these projects is just getting started and so I like legitimately have to set out a day and a time and put it in my schedule that I'm going to be doing these kinds of things so today I'm going to do my best to try to get as much of this project done as possible last night I went on to Amazon we ordered some new hardware for like the bathroom so I really wanted to replace this light fixture that I have up here it's just really basic and I wanted something that was more like Victorian looking and would go better with the look of our home the people who were here before really loved like Farmhouse so they put in stuff like this which is like cute but it's not necessarily what I feel like the people who built this house would have wanted in their home I realized that this light fixture is like silver and what I really wanted was brass but when you look over here we've got a silver shower we've got silver sink and just kind of what do you call this hardware and whatnot everywhere and so I was like okay I don't want to go and start in on the brass if I can't just do everything but then Josh was just like Kristen why don't you just buy it and then when we ultimately redo the bathroom we can just take the hardware that you already bought and just use that I was like okay you don't have to convince me that much I guess about this little towel hanger I have mixed feelings about it it's definitely a little bit more like shabby chic or Farmhouse than what I'm going for but there is some like sentimental value to it the people who lived here two families before us had six kids and so they each had a hook for all their towels and there's part of me that kind of loves that history of the house there's a big part of me that I was thinking about just keeping this plus I mean we use it for all of our towels oh and speaking of towels let me show you guys what Brooklyn and brought for us this week so like I said before the towels that we have in our bathroom right now we got for our wedding like 10 years years ago they're all stained up they were just like some cheap towels from back in the day and Josh has been super fluffy but they're also very light I feel like the rib gives it an extra texture and honestly I love that we actually have organic towels in our home this is so exciting so right now Brooklyn is bathroom and I'll show you guys what they look like with the finished product I did wind up choosing this color right here which I feel like still looks blue but it's not like obnoxious blue and it's called Looking Glass and then also there was this color jungle green which was kind of like the wild card and all of these colors that I bought I was thinking that I wanted a darker color but now that I see this here I feel like this is dark enough to give it that contrast and so I think I am going to do this this camouflage green so that's what I picked up I'm gonna go ahead and get my painting stuff and then we can go ahead and get started on painting this place thank you my gosh here I think screwed these so deep into the wall wait to see how long these screws are oh my gosh okay I finally got one also this is like leaving giant holes and a bunch of crust on the wall as well look how long those are is that not like excessive or what oh and look at how big these holes are that is massive I was not anticipating that I don't even know if I've got filler for that at this point okay on to the Mirror [Music] this color that I'm using for the walls is called Looking Glass I chose this because I felt like it looked kind of like an overcast day but it still has a nice blue color to it I really wanted this room to have the look of the outdoors but without like a super bright and obnoxious blue in here I'm in the middle of painting the trim I'm not gonna lie the paint itself looks super close to the wall color I promise that this is blue it's just so funny because right now it literally looks just white compared to the paint that we have but I wanted to keep this bathroom super bright because it does not have any windows or ventilation in here you can see also that the paint that they did before was a high shine paint which I know like a semi-gloss is recommended for bathrooms but this type was called very scrubbable I am choosing to do eggshell with the hope that this doesn't get too destroyed but again this bathroom isn't too precious oh you know what now that it's drying I feel like you can see that it's blue you guys I was so nervous that I wasn't whole bathroom and then it was just gonna look white or that Josh is gonna walk in here and be like seriously you were spending all this time on painting it a barely different color and he might feel that way but we're just gonna keep going [Music] I'm going to take a break on the blue tonight just because I don't have sandpaper to get this down I need to wait for the wall filler stuff to dry completely as well and this not only ripped off the paint but also a little bit of the drywall so I'm gonna need to sand down some of this stuff I'm missing the right size screwdriver to get these things off you guys I feel like this is just the story of working on these kinds of projects so I'm gonna go ahead and hold off I'm painting the rest of the walls I am about to start into the green where is the Green Oh I had to stop my filming because a child had taken this and hidden it in our house and so I had to go find it and I was talking with Josh about this cute little towel hanger and I know that it holds a lot of sentimental value and I think I am going to keep it but I think I am going to paint over it with his green as well I also think I made the decision that I should make the trim a different color I was considering painting it the same color as this blue but I don't know I think having something a little different on the bottom might just bring a little bit more color throughout this entire bathroom I think that that's part of what's going on here it's part of why I don't love it is because it is missing a little bit of color so let's get started with the drawers first and then we'll move on from there okay I'm in trouble I close these drawers after taking out the hardware I know I can't get them back open [Music] look at that detail [Music] said that a lot of this was the overlap you know the normal exceptions but in general right why would I do that if Jesus it's two grandkids angels all in the clouds these attacks on all of them a lot of these okay everybody I want to take a quick break here to talk to you about some of the items that I'm going to be bringing into this bathroom to give it kind of like that Cottage feeling I have been busy I'm not gonna lie going thrifting and I haven't shown any of these items yet I'm really trying to do this bathroom makeover on the cheap let me show you guys what I have so far first I'm going to start with this chair that I got you guys may remember me talking about this in the past videos that these are some of my favorite chairs I call them parlor chairs or Bentley chairs and these two darker wooden ones have always been my favorite but I've only ever been able to find two well recently on Marketplace I found four for eighty dollars and so y'all I snagged them up so quick and so I am going to bring this into the bathroom into the vanity area we've actually never had a chair in the vanity so I'm hoping that the girls will use the vanity now I will say that I am kind of Designing this bathroom a little bit more for the girls I know that it's the main bathroom that all of us shower in it's the only shower in the house but it is on the upper level which is up with the girls and so I decided to give it kind of like a feminine Cottage look so with that I did find this huge print of these deer that are kind of frolicking in the meadow and I thought you guys would want to take a good look at this I couldn't resist it it has a gold frame and you guys will see that I'm doing a lot of gold touches I wanted to have like a strong nature feel to it along with that I am going to be bringing in some faux Greenery because there is no light source in the bathroom and so just to give it a little bit of life that y'all real plants are not going to survive in this place so I did find this Greenery at the Goodwill Outlets I'm not sure exactly how much it cost it was by pound and then I also found this cute little vase at Thrift World so this is 4.99 yeah and so I'm going to bring this in I think I'm gonna put it behind the toilet just to give it to give MZ you wanna carry it all right thank you so we're gonna get a little bit of Whimsy with this heavy but what you can set it down on the table baby I also found a couple of these little faux hydrangeas I thought that the color was really pretty they were 1.99 each I'm always an advocate for real plants but in an area like this where it's mostly the girls taking care of it and there's no natural light the plants are really the only answer in order to get a little bit of life into the space the ones on the main of our house are mostly real the ones that are up in the girls room are all fake and lastly I did pick up this Runner I think it's like a two by eight I just wanted something to cover up the tile in that room the tile isn't bad it's just not my favorite and I don't have the patience or the time to paint it and lacquer it and so I'm saving myself by just putting a rug over the tile and just calling it good let's go ahead and keep working on this project and then at the end I can put all of these new to me items into the bathroom because you just got them exactly foreign okay so we are down to Bare Bones here all of the tedious annoying work is done the only thing this stinks is that we bought a beautiful light fixture to go right here only to find out that this hole needs to be in the center and so we do need to hire an electrician to put in the light so I will not have that in this video the cabinets are all painted the trim is this green color that I really was not sure about until last minute I did wind up painting all of this green as well and then y'all this Hardware we about lost our salvation and our marriage over installing this sink I barely filmed any of it just because it was so traumatizing we're gonna go ahead and start filling this place out and decorating the rest of the space okay so this is actually the mirror from our dining room I'm hanging it a little bit low just so that the girls can use it and see themselves this is not a permanent fix like I said we also need to get a light fixture up here so this is just going to be our temporary fix we're just gonna make it work thank you thank you [Music] [Music] since our lighting situation is not over here anymore and it's all overhead lighting in this bathroom which is horrific I'm going to try to bring in a little bit of floor lighting and so I did grab this little lamp out of the girl's playroom it's probably just temporary I would love to find a better fix for it but I'm just gonna try to make it a feel a little bit better in here and we're gonna find a way to hide these cords as well I'm gonna get these cute little Brooklyn and washcloths in here [Music] [Music] okay are you guys ready for the doubting in fearing and therefore lonely thinking that this is the necessary state of Believers this is a mistake for all things are possible to him who believes and it is possible for us to mount believes you hear of exploits which holy men have done for Jesus that they have enjoyed of him how much they have been like them how they have been able to endure great persecutions for his sake and you say ah that as for me I am a worm and I could never attain to this but there is nothing which one saint has that you may not be there is no elevation of Grace no attainment of spirituality no clearness of assurance no post of Duty which is not open to you if you have but the power to believe lay aside your sackcloth and Ashes and rise to the Dignity of your true position you are little in Israel because you will be so not because there is any necessity for it you shouldn't grovel in the dust o child of the king Ascend The Golden Throne of assurance is waiting for you the crown of
