Developing salt-tolerant grains is a terrific idea for the future. They don't even have to be used for human consumption - lower quality types can be used as animal feed.
I keep seeing this story, but only on Sino and in Chinese-sourced media. Which suggests it is not commercially viable to the point that it threatens the interests of multi-national agribusiness corporations. It's perhaps not worth commenting on this until it gets to that point.
