hey folks how's it going I'm out here in my severely neglected herb garden because I'm a human just like you right now I have this whole section like way up above like my backyard area where I planted out a bunch of boxes of stuff and today we're going to talk about chamomile she does not care that I have neglected her in fact she's grown out of the box into the pasture and she's just she's everywhere and she's totally welcome to do that um and I am picking camomile with my youngest daughter today well only daughter youngest kid and uh we're doing that because as you can see the sun is coming it's been nice and rainy lately but later in the week it's supposed to get super super hot which is going to fry these blooms so we both really love chamomile so we are going to get as much harvested as we can and of course I'll give her some water throughout the summer so she goes to seed and such but anyhow let's talk about why chamomile is amazing and that you should have her in your life even if you can't grow her freshh um most of you probably know that chamomile is really fantastic for helping you feel sleepy right like you think of her as maybe like going to sleep before you know like having her before bedtime to feel relaxed uh maybe if you're having a little bit of anxiety and that's because she definitely lowers your cortisol levels which are your stress hormones and when you lower your cortisol levels in the evening your melatonin levels are naturally able to R eyes and so you start feeling sleepy right but did you also know that she's fantastic for Digestive Health and here's a little known thing she's really good for Digestive Health because she's good for liver function right A lot of people think that she's good as a digestive just because she is like slightly bitter right but she's only bitter if you brew her wrong right um what she's really doing is she's stimulating your liver function and by proxy she's fantastic for getting rid of excess hormones out of your gut right and processing them through your liver and all that stuff if you are somebody who is living with estrogen dominance whether you're a man or a woman because we live in a world where they put phytoestrogens in all of our food because soy soy isolates soy leion soy milk soy everything is added everywhere right and so it skyrockets your estrogen levels and you end up having symptoms of estrogen dominance like excess weight gain horrible periods acne low testosterone estrogen dominance is something that everybody should look into if they're dealing with reproductive or energy issues and things like that but chamomile drink on a regular basis helps your body get rid of excess hormones and estrogen in particular now you might be thinking well I'm a menopause or something like that and I am already probably low in estrogen here's the thing if your Foods weren't laced with soy you would probably be low in estrogen but women now even in menopause are having signs and symptoms of estrogen dominance and the thing to know about estrogen is it stores in our fatty tissues so even if your blood work looks normal it can still be really high because it's hiding in your fat right um and so chamomile is just an amazing way to support our body and even if you're not dealing with estrogen dominance she's fantastic for consistently keeping stress hormon lower for helping us just feel a little bit better because when you lower when you lower your stress hormones cortisol by proxy things like dopamine and Gaba and oxytocin are allowed to rise right because these things kind of although your hormones are never balanced or you'd be dead they're always in flow but when your hormones for stress are always up here your hormones for happiness are always down here and I really love chamomile because she's one of those herbs that she's even safe to use during pregnancy she's like one of the few herbs where like a gynecologist or whatever will be like yeah you can drink chamomile tea right she's been around for a very long time so unless you have like a severe like um Daisy allergy because she is in the daisy family you can drink chamomile as a tea you can make a tinure I love um to make like an infused milk with her and then turn that milk into ice cream she is just one of my favorite flavors um and so you know you can buy chamomile dry I do not suggest I do not suggest getting the nasty tea bags from the store that chamomile is bottom grade it's the drgs it's what's left over after they're processing the higher quality stuff typically right it's like leftovers now I'm not saying that you can never use it but if you're going to I would do like three or four bags in a cup because if not you're just getting flavor and none of her medicinal properties I personally love chamomile she is one of my favorites I have a lot of different varieties is growing up here um you know there's like the German chamomile the Egyptian there's all different types of strains that people have created and if you're like I don't like the flavor of chamomile tea That's because you've never had a good one right find yourself a high quality loose leaf tea and start bringing camomile into your life um and so I'm going to grab my phone and I'm going to try to it won't let me flip around oh I forgot I'm connected here I'm going to take it with me um okay okay so camomile I mean she's pretty easy to identify I don't even know if my hand is showing there we go she's pretty easy to identify because you will have planted her right unless you're living in the Mediterranean uh maybe in certain parts of Spain which is pretty close to the Mediterranean you're not really going to come across chamomile in the wild unless somebody has maybe planted her at an Old Homestead and then she's disappeared right um but chamomile is just so amazing I mean you can even use her for your little ones if they have if they're like teething right you can take chamomile tea and then you can soak one of those freezable teething rings in it and then let them chew on that and it'll do two things it will calm down your little one if they're feeling fussy from their teeth but also it really helps with pain topically you can make an infused oil out of her she is better she is better um for itching than even like cortisone cream I love chamomile for itching skin top ially you know I like to com um combine her with like oatmeal cuz yes you can make an oil infusion out of um dried oatmeal she's amazing for that um and we just we I mean I can't flip it around I'm going to assume she's in the camera we uh we use chamomile a lot right she's like our daily Drinker what how how do you like to use her um I like to make chamomile tea and I like to add vanilla to it and normally I make it when I'm on my period because it helps calm you down a lot right it tastes really nice especially when you add some vanilla extract to it right because chamomile is really good for like menstrual cramps and stuff like that too right because it can even help with um it can even help with like um let me get my stand set up here it can even help chamomile can even help with like muscle cramps and stuff like that right because she does have a lot of anti- spasma properties right so she's also stimulating your immune system and all that other type type of stuff so you don't just have to be having period cramps you could have you know muscle pain and things like that and she's she's pretty fantastic my favorite way is I I do the same thing I like the chamomile tea you know with a good amount of cream in it or you know we use raw goat milal because we have a lot of that um and then adding a little bit of vanilla is good too I also really like to make a cold brew infusion out of her and I'll show you how to do that in another video um but it's basically where I'm taking um like dried cam meal and I'm making a cold water infusion overnight in my fridge right and then I mix it with cream and a little bit of sugar you can use whatever sweetener you want and then I ham that over ice it's so good it's so good especially if there's a little vanilla in there um chamomile takes to cream really really well and so we've always got big jars I like to blend her with lavender too real lavender you know I'm never using essential oils and anything I talk about her make um but yeah that's Canon meal and now she is really easy to grow so even if you have an apartment with like somewhere that you could put like a little tiny garden box on you can grow her there she'll happily show up in your garden she doesn't like to be transplanted so it is best to just kind of plant her where you want her and let her come up um and so I don't know if you'd be able to grow her on a window seal maybe if you got really good light there like constantly right um but she's also pretty affordable if you want to like find some and call her home um and it just it's really a simple safe herb to bring into your life and you are absolutely smart enough to work with chamomile right and it's like one of those uh a Gateway herb right like it's really hard to hurt yourself with chamomile unless you have an allergy um so I think she's a fantastic place for people to start or just get more curious about but also even if you've been a longtime herbalist thing that I notice in the herbalist Community is like once we get really into practicing with herbs we have a tendency to to kind of push back the simple herbs as we look for something more complicated to qualify ourself in some different way we're finding like all these like distant far off plants and things like that but you don't need to do that if you really dive into these simple plants you'll learn that there's so much more to them and so much more than they can do than like let's say make you sleepy before bed right chamomile she's so vast and has such an array of benefits but really we're like oh she may be helps as sleep but if we dig into it uh these simple herbs can likely replace or do a better job or a safer job at supporting our health than something more complicated and foreign from far away right something that you could never grow in your environment or anything like that so that's chamomile and again you are completely capable of doing this I absolutely believe in your ability and that you are smart enough to to get curious and to take your health into your own hands and learn one safe Simple Plan at a time so if you like my random videos
