[Music] now of course there are many places you can stay in costa rica hotels and ranches that offer a multitude of activities but at the same time they're very expensive and if you're a solo traveler like me you're always looking to say the buck so i decided to look at the most unique places to stay in costa rica for 100 or less many of them that incorporate their own activities on site for free and here's what i found [Music] okay wow talk about first impressions this is amazing outdoor kitchen hold up outdoor bathroom oh my gosh that's my shower i am in awe that's one of the most beautiful things i've seen that's lake arenal way back over there [Music] it looks like we have a little welcome basket some coffee with the straws and the coconuts nice so there's a great setup here in the kitchen got just about everything you need to cook with but let me tell you bring your groceries because after the drive here there's no way in the world i'm getting back out [Music] i love the netting that you can lay out on the robes are so comfy and the views are amazing so peaceful [Music] check out the pipe house named very aptly over the fact that it's made entirely of industrial pipes those are the bedrooms so the reason why i stayed at this hostel which i normally don't stay at hostels but it's a pipe i mean it's a roommate of a pipe i had to see what that was all about plus it's right on the beach [Music] [Applause] hey guys welcome to the pipe house um my name is felipe i'm the owner and the manager i'll be here to help you with anything you want the pipe house started as a little dream we had since i was a kid my father used to bring us to playa grande to this particular spot we used to love to camp out here we grew up camping and surfing and just exploring the area surfing around kayaking in the river doing all these really nice things so a few years ago i decided to change my life as an engineer in san jose and i decided to quit my job move here get a little loan from the bank and start my own business in what my father taught us to be paradise so right now the goal is to share this paradise with you guys uh we got everything you need to make your stay comfortable and the idea is to reproduce those good old days when you used to come here and just enjoy and spend the best beach time ever hear that yep calling my name [Music] two [Music] okay here's the second floor the main living area we've got a nice kitchenette a beautiful balcony out there a little sitting area and a bathroom now to the bedroom look at that huge bed and these views with the sounds of nature love it [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] two two [Music] [Music] okay we have a nice little kitchen she said she has some eggs for breakfast that i can take and cook it's 5 45 a.m oh i feel like the world wakes up earlier in costa rica there you are you're the culprit it's the bird that will not let me sleep [Music] this is a pour over commonly done here in costa rica and look at that mug okay i've got my mammoth cup of coffee and what i'm looking at right now is exactly where what i'm drinking was made this plantation [Music] [Music] [Music] yes [Music] feet [Music] [Music] [Music] so here we are in monteverde this place is not much to look out from the outside but it's in a great location and beautiful inside [Music] let's go inside and take a peek i love that rock wall [Music] see what this bathroom looks like wow you can fit like a whole family in that shower nothing you would but beautiful view [Music] all right nice shower [Music] lovely view no one to look in thank goodness cute little kitchen yeah but that's what it's all about right there oh i love this [Music] so i'm going to leave you with three tips on choosing the right lodging for yourself the first is to know that you should look on a variety of different places some of the places that i stayed in are both on airbnb as well as expedia and various other sites even the rates on their website can be different so check around and get the best price the second thing is realize that rates can vary considerably depending on the season whether it's winter or summer the winter is the dry season here that's december through april the rainy season or the green season as they'd like to say is the low season where you can find the best rates and that is may november and finally message the hotel in advance before setting the reservation and ask a few questions i would ask if there's an ac or a fan unit just in case you might be the kind of person who gets hot at night and you might want it in some areas you're not going to need it though the second thing i would ask her if there are any pets on premises many airbnb owners are actually on site and they do have animals and since there is so much wildlife because you're good you might find that if they have a dog they bark a lot at night so i would ask that in advance as well the third and final thing i would ask is the conditions of the roads to get there and that's the most important thing do you need a four-wheel drive to access that property or not overall costa rica is an amazing place to travel to it's one of my favorite countries in the entire world so i hope you'll go explore and enjoy
