Cory hung out during the livestream and provided really interesting commentary throughout. You can still see the chat archive at the YouTube link - well worth it to get his insight on the process of making the show happen.

Also interesting that the video has a different track order than the album. Cory re-sequenced the album because he wanted to create a different flow for the listening experience. He wasn't sure that people wouldn't listen all the way through (which is insane because it's an amazing performance!), which is a reason why the Cody Fry tracks were bumped up to the front half.

Very glad we finally have a video of Cory singing Real Job. I always had trouble picturing him with his singing voice. Speaking as a guitar player myself, I can totally get why he's hesitant, but it's a good tune.

[Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] all right how are we doing rotterdam you guys ready to have some fun tonight yeah we are too this is really fun for us this is a very special evening i'm sure that some of you who have seen my shows are thinking wow i'm not used to sitting down watching one of these shows and for some of you who are used to seeing the orchestra you probably know what you're in for and hopefully you really enjoy this program and enjoy the music that we have prepared for you um i just want to acknowledge one thing about this that is very special for us and for special for me coming into this situation being invited into this it is a very special program because i feel like what the metropol orchest is doing is bringing light to new music and different music and doing a new take on a type of music that might not have been embraced as much by other orchestras around the world and it is a testament to the forward movement of art and culture and maybe taking different things people from different musical and cultural backgrounds and bringing them together it is a beautiful thing to be a part of especially in this time in our world i feel a great pleasure to be here so i just want to welcome all of you thank you guys so much for being here this is a really special night [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] bye [Music] [Music] so do so [Music] my uh [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] oh [Music] that's paul on the alto sax and you're going to see a lot more cody fry who was playing that whirly there he's going to come back up in a little [Music] bit [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] me [Applause] [Music] foreign so [Applause] [Music] [Music] so [Music] um [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] um [Music] hmm [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] foreign thank you very much that's too called airplane mode which is what uh those of you who have been to orchestra concerts before your phone should probably be in that mode right now but feel free to cheer if you want to uh i heard some cheering when seth played some bass that's seth takberry on the bass he's wonderful now uh with with a lot of these compositions it's very fun to reimagine them uh with this new ensemble the way that they have uh in a completely new way and when we treat tunes this way you can kind of completely rethink everything that you've ever thought about the composition and shift things from being a guitar part to being to the strings or to the drums or to the horns that sort of thing this tune uh is a song that i wrote called ellie named after my daughter and it was inspired by a moment where we were in the rush of downtown manhattan around christmas time and she was completely sound asleep in her stroller and she was in her own little world and she had just the most peaceful look on her face and all around her was this chaos and i had this imagery of a solo piano lullaby that i put together which hans will be playing the part of ellie tonight on the piano and uh then this chaos around it being the hustle and bustle outside of of sometimes what we have in our bubble of what we think in our own heads or for in this case my child sleeping in a stroller the craziness will be represented by the strings and concert master arlia her ensemble here and and martine on the drums they are bringing the chaos this is a tune called ellie [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] hmm so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] do [Music] good bye [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] my [Music] [Applause] [Music] i am [Music] [Music] you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you [Music] [Music] you [Music] [Music] do [Music] oh [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] so [Music] so [Music] so [Applause] [Music] so so [Music] do [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign thank you very much that's paul in the tenor sax robinson on the trombone [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] so that's hans on the piano now here's the part of the show where i sing a song and as you can tell by the majority of the show or all of the show that you've heard thus far i am a guitar player and not a singer and i reluctantly sang a song on my last record and people seemed to like the song so i have to sing it at my shows and the reason why i sang it is because a little back story the way that i collaborate with a lot of people is i will talk with them or figure out with people hey i want to work with you on this record or your record or my record whatever that sort of thing i have a lot of friends who are really great singers much better than me so a lot of times i will write a song and send it to them with a demo of me singing it and ask them to just replace it i'll send another version with my vocal muted and have them interpret it the way that they do and normally it ends up way better than me singing it but in this case i sent it to a couple of my friends and every one of them came back and said i can't sing it i can't do it i'm not going to do it it's like well you're such a better you're so much better of a singer than me i think you would deliver the lyric in a really great way it fits right in your range it feels perfect for you and i said no no i can sing the song but the song is great just how it is with you singing it's actually better that it's you singing because it's much more of a personal song for you and there's a lyric that says cooking at wong's which doesn't work for anybody else who doesn't have the last name a family name wong but it ended up being what i hope is an endearing uh message of what it's like as an artist to sometimes go from a lot of confidence to crippling self-doubt in what we do so this is a tune called today i'm gonna get myself a real job [Music] today i'm gonna get myself a real job it's time to be a standard working man oh this music thing's been fun but i think that i am done today i'm gonna get myself a real job i'm contemplating getting on the payroll no stress about what other people think no ticket sales no critics or spotify statistics today i'm gonna get myself a real job now my insecurity got the best part of me i'm gonna quit guitar and get a real job today i'm gonna get myself a real job in the family business making food i poured my heart out in these songs now it's time to cook at walls i think someday i might just get a real job i spend half of my life in a bus or on a flight i'm getting off the road and in a real job [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] now my friends have always said this is all just in your head now get out of your bed this is don't read the comment threads this is [Music] i was never made to have a real job this passion's burned inside since i was 12. now i may not be the best but i know that i can rest knowing today that i don't ever need a real [Music] job thank you uh we'd like to invite our very special guest cody fry back to the stage and feature him on piano for this next tune [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] um [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] now what you're going to hear in the next few songs is the reason why i sang first because cody is uh an incredible singer and probably one of the people that turned down singing the real job song i would never do that to you corey uh we're gonna we're gonna do a couple of cody's tunes now this is a a tune that we did together in a collaboration uh for a little ep last year this is called better all right all right [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] me [Music] [Music] broke it off before he [Music] maybe i love you maybe [Music] than anyone [Music] i tried to keep you on the outside but now you're underneath my [Music] eyes skin me [Music] maybe i'll love you maybe anyone else is [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] so there was something in your eyes is [Music] [Applause] this is such a treat gosh um i uh i don't know what to say thank you to corey for having me at this i just don't know how i wedged my way into this one but gosh i'm thankful uh yeah [Applause] [Music] this next song is one that i wrote um and it is a song about the time that i was hit by a train not a true story it's called underground this is just awesome [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] that's just the way it will never is that's just the way it is [Music] how can you [Music] some things will never change that's just the way it is [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] well they passed the law in 64 [Music] is that's just the way it is [Music] cody fry well guys it's been really really really fun thank you so much for joining us please give another big hand for the metropol orchestra incredible vince mendoza it is really a very special and magical and powerful thing to be a part of this uh this ensemble is is pushing boundaries in art and in our in our world for our generation and it it feels like such a pleasure to be a part of this so thank you guys so much this is last night this is called saint paul [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] hey [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] oh [Music] oh because you've been so kind won't play [Music] one more time to see your face light up my phone i don't know what the future will be holding all i know is i wanna be holding you [Music] i'll do anything to get back your said that you won't be back [Music] just like we [Music] i don't know what the future will be is [Music] oh back [Music] [Music] [Music] no i didn't think i needed but you're the only one that i've been thinking of [Music] said that you got me back [Music] oh you
