this is gonna be a bit of a different video today we're going to explore a real budget option to replace your Copic marker desires super affordable Copic markers exist and you do they even know about it you're analyzing Geralyn welcome to draw with jaza I'm Josue and today I'm going to explore with you some markers I got for super super cheap Copic markers go between eight to ten dollars per marker this is like liquid gold here so a pack of 72 markers now I need a google this Copic marker brush by a pack of 72 Kovach Sketch markers goes for five hundred and sixty nine dollars I've 372 packs I have a B and C these things here were much much cheaper I heard about them because my mum was telling me she was looking at buying some Copic markers she found a pack of 80 Copic markers they're like $40 or something get it get a load of this yeah look there it is 30 to 80 Copic markers that's a bargain that it says right here color artist dual head sketch Copic markers set for school drawing sketch for school drawing sketch you know when you're doing some school drawing sketches let's check this out what the Frick is touching you ah I found a loophole touch new markers maybe the next big thing start classic colors like 34 yellow but there are some colors that I recognize in here raw umber let's see how that compares to be actually war umber we've burnt umber we don't have raw umber okay do you know that doesn't feel like the worst thing in the world to use as opposed to burnt umber this is the Copic marker yeah now look look at that it's like they burnt it I'm gonna run some experiments this is a scientific test and we're going to break down and discover if there's a little more behind the facade of the reputation of kopecks then there need be and if these things aren't quite getting the respect that they deserve I am going to try and break down the quality of these markers in comparison to each other in a somewhat scientific way so I'm going to break this down into a few specific experimental tasks the first is color comparison the second is blending quality the third will be ink longevity and then the fourth will be a bit of a field test so first things first we're gonna test the colors and compare them directly and just see if there's a difference in your visual quality between the two different kinds of markers let's start off with something really basic like a black everything on the left of this page will be Copic markers and everything on the right will be the hell of these things again touch new and we'll use the chisel tip first and then the brush tip that's not bad if anything that feels like a more solid black but it doesn't have a easy to manipulate brush tip which I'm not a huge fan of now I'm gonna try and see if there are any colors that match by name and see what their versions of those colors are for example here is emerald green okay and then V touch new obviously the line on the right is quite a lot darker but it still gets a pretty nice flat tone but this is where I'm starting to notice a bit of a difference the pigment on the left here is quite evenly distributed on the right here it starts to seem like it breaks apart a bit we have lemon yellow in both colors halo blue and I'm gonna do the same thing on the left and the right I'm gonna have an oversaturated section and then just a general flat color so here we have the result of our tests as you can see as a general observation I'm finding the Copic colors are just a really clean flat colors I'm actually pleasantly surprised by the result of the colors on the right by the rip-off markers it's it's not that bad but all in all actually think the color comparison test it holds up really well could it beginner use these and get some great results absolutely so why not just give these little categories of rating out of 10 in comparison to the Copic markers I'm gonna say Copic art 10 in comparison to Copic because they are Copic markers so they're obviously the best Copic markers that Copic markers could be but we're comparing two Copic but did you get my point I would give a solid 8 out of 10 maybe even ain't no it's not quite close to ten just because the way it goes down doesn't give you enough versatility and the lack of the brush tip isn't a great thing but it's a better rating than I thought it might have gotten now let's move on to comparison number two blending quality / capability and I'm going to do this by drawing four circles and inside these circles I'm gonna blend from one color to another starting with some fairly simple transitions and then into something a little more complex I'm gonna start off with some skin tones these are really good these are my go-to Copic skin tones so I start off with the baby skin pink just filling in a highlight area but to blend them then I just sort of step back in tone and just gently fill in those gaps between the colors to get them to bleed into one another until we get a nice smooth tone next we're just gonna use two colors and a really vibrant blue and then I'm gonna use a dark blue around the edges and then just blend back with that light blue color now when we go for a bit of a transition from yellow to green starting off with yellow and the highlight I'm gonna go for like a mid yellowy green in the middle here and then moving into a bit more of a classic green color and the edges here just over saturate all this in the middle here just to soften that blend transition alright now let's go for a bit more of a dramatic transition something that's going to be a little bit trickier so we'll start off with like a pink water we got here this is a color called pink so that's perfect so I'm gonna try and replicate these as closely as I possibly can with my touch new ebay markets I'm just gonna use the chisel tip for this these are alcohol-based I can see that they're mixing in with each other that that's quite good and they're actually mixing in quite well but it's not a clean look you can see that because I only have a hard tip to work with if you're not on me there are harder edges and it's a less smooth transition so let's just try two colors a light blue and a dark blue and let's just see if we have Lee saturated this transition if we can get some sort of blend these markers are sort of pleasantly surprising me as far as a budget option goes which is really good they're from a yellow to a green and in doing this one I'll show you what I mean with the brush tip obviously it's harder to fill in the larger areas now stepping back doing our lend so let's just take it a step further and see how it looks with something a little more extreme so these are the colors I've picked we'll start off with our light pink and then slowly stepping out to our bluer colors now we can start to see how these markers differ one from the other and it's more with an artist's eye of looking at it from a professional perspective because honestly the untrained eye might look at these and think they could be from the same set of markers maybe notice a very slight difference but on the left the transitions the steps in the blending and the overall color quality of a pigment is just a little bit nicer and more consistent on the right the top to look fine look like quite good actually but you can notice that when you start to try and get to darker colors or blend between different hues you having a bit of problem you're getting that stepping look you're not getting a nice neat circle or edge because you have solid uncomfortable tips to work with and the different hues aren't mixing in with each other particularly well that being said this is with me being super picky these are still really good so I'm gonna give them a 6 out of a copic 10 good not perfect or even great but quite good if you're looking for something that does your basic stuff next test is going to be somewhat time consuming because we're going to test the ink longevity what does that mean well basically it's trying to figure out how long a marker will last before it starts to look dry to do this I'm going to ruin one of each and I'm literally just going to use the marker on the page and use it and use it and use it and use it I'm gonna time-lapse it because it's gonna be very boring in fact you know what this isn't gonna cut it I'm gonna use an a2 piece of blending card and I'm going to start on one side with Copic and on the other side without other touch 1 models [Music] so here we have the results of our blending tests on the left at the COEX and on the right are the what touch touch touch five what touch new I thought that would touch new but this is touch five ok I guess they're touch five markers I think this is one of the clearest tests as far as a quality of a marker goes it takes ruining a marker or at least using up all the ink to get the results but this is one of the clearest indications as to what you get when you buy either of these markets I would consider the kopecks highly usable in this sort of range and then still very usable in this range but this is when we start to notice in our art works that it's drying out a bit still that's more than two thirds of that entire span that we have a pretty good color coverage now on the other side of the touch five touch what I don't even know where they called anymore we have a similar sort of range for the high level of usage here but you can see that the mid level which is in reality where your markers are going to perform for the majority of its use starts to fade out a lot quicker and then we're starting to look dry for a lot longer so the Copic score usability is about there and then with the touch v that's that's the core area of usability now with that being said you can still sometimes get some use out of a dry marker so let's see how they perform I'm just gonna draw a bit of a square and we're gonna fill in a swatch here we're gonna saturate these square swatches as much as we can let's just use whatever we have left in these markers to saturate the square as much as possible and see how flat and clean we can get okay let's try the touch v okay this hurts me more than a tear to you I feel like the results of that are about the same still even after that massive amount of use you can get a clean flat color if you push it and as for the results of our test we can actually decide what out of 10 the score is for our alternative marker here by literally measuring out the size and just giving it a score so that's 50 centimetres right there that's 11 centimeters so 11 out of 15 is 73% which means the color test for the ink longevity touch five markers get seven point three out of ten and that is a scientific fact that's not at least we have one little test to go and that's probably the most fitting and reasonable test to do it now as I've mentioned kopecks are my go-to markers and these are the sorts of the results I've gotten in the past when I spend quite a lot of time getting a lot of blending mixing lighting you can see there's like pink mixed in to brown yellow mixed in dipper book there's a lot of different hues and saturations in this case there were there were some dry marker uses that still came through and made for a nice sort of aesthetic you can get some really good results but it's going to be a one on one head-to-head challenge that I'm going to be doing now with a simpler illustration and trying to copy the general style and aesthetic and flair that I'm going for and we'll see how it holds up and they have the result of my coloring in here and you know what it's not that bad though there are obviously some differences the blending isn't as great I do find that the general pigmentation especially when it's more saturated isn't as satisfying or as clean or flat and of course I go over the edges a bit more because without a more flexible brush tip it just means I'm less accurate but all of that said I gotta say the outcome isn't exactly what I expected I expected at the end of this video to have paid a negligible amount for some ripoff markers and to sort of take the piss or joke about them but in the end of the surprising reality is that if we have a marker that gets you know eighty to ninety percent of the color quality of the kopecks and then the blending itself is you know around 70 to 80 percent of what the kopecks blending is if we have a color amount usage that gets us to about 73 percent of what the Copic markers is and in then let's say if the end result is 70 to 80 percent as good as the Copic markers you end up with a much cheaper option that gets you 80% of the way to Copic markers and that's surprisingly good like that is actually really good when you consider that you're spending twenty thirty percent of what you would on the on the equivalent COBE actually a lot less I have to do maths again god damn it percentage calculator 16 percent now that is quite an interesting thing to consider that this bag of 80 ripoff markers that don't even know what they're called touch new or touch five take your pick cost 16 percent of what the equivalent amount of kopecks would cost and get you 80% of the way there that's quite interesting now if you're a professional and you're going for the best results possible maybe you want to just save up and get less copics and have something that's going to last longer that you can refill and is going to get you a better result but if you're a beginner or even intermediate and you're looking for more color variety and just something that's gonna do the job without needing to be entirely hyper professional in its result or give you a lot of flexibility in its use case do you know what I actually can recommend these things they're neither bad so frankly if you go on ebay or wish calm and you look up cheap Copic markers I guess whatever you get might not be too how's that for a twist ending I feel like M night shaped simulations show you Malala live ding-dong Shama mala Sheila Summerlin Changmin M night Shyamalan pronunciation M night Shyamalan Shyamalan what was I talking about twist
