I'm Nintendo and I'm sick please console wars [Music] oh right my first day off in months I'm not doing anything got those new locks installed right oh yeah top of the line nobody's walking in here unannounced anymore you gotta be kidding me do not be afraid I'm a soldier from the future Oh future we need locks to protect against the future now there are no locks nor will ever be lots more time travel what are you talking like that ooh are you like a robot you're like like a cyborg all future II stuff no this is just how we talk in the future as to not offend anyone people in the future our super woke no cadence no inflection no feeling it's so progressive I am here because our planet has become overrun with demonic sugar gliders demonic sugar gliders like like the flying squirrel look at things they're adorable yes but it is more terrifying that it is adorable and it is very adorable so you can only imagine how terrifying it is so what do you need from us video games they don't exist in my time they were wiped out in the console wars yes that's a real thing in my time I need a copy of doom to take out the demonic sugar gliders yeah I guess you could borrow it I mean got it for PS or you wanna borrow that negative I am a cartridge-based soldier we all are I have traveled back in time for other games before I needed some bees ate my neighbors during the zombie was Castlevania during the vampire wars and terminator during let me guess the Robot Wars No the Terminator wars now someone tried to rule the world with Arnold cones the Schwarzenegger Wars that war still holds the record for best one-liners Wow so confusing with all his twins well if it's cartridge-based games doomed for the super nintendo is where it's at whoa much better Sega Genesis didn't have to know what the Sega 32x did it's the much better game know even with the extra boost of power Doom is still better on the Super Nintendo what that's it wait julen this is the portal between the two moons of Mars full of demons best June Doom was first released in 1993 for the ms-dos critically and commercially successful it is considered to be one of the most important games in videogame history it was pivotal in gaming to help define the first-person shooter it's had many mods sequels and of course ports it was ported to numerous computers and consoles consoles like PlayStation 1 Sega Saturn tari Jaguar 3do and even late releases on ps4 Xbox one and Nintendo switch versions were looking at today or the Super Nintendo game published by Williams entertainment and developed by sculpted software and the Sega 32x game published and developed by Sega two different takes on a classic which one's better let's find out [Music] the games do look similar we see both of these games from the point of view of doom guy both versions don't take up the full screen with borders around each game we have similar looking levels some colors and details might be different but the layouts are pretty much the same our enemies all look similar to both games are limited so all enemies are animated only to see their fronts unlike the original yeah they appear similar Mikey definitely looks better for the most obvious difference frame rate the frame rate of the Sega game is much smoother than the Super Nintendo obviously having more power at the 32x helps and this is definitely where it helps the most it's just overall easier around the eyes much less of a headache on Sega Super Nintendo is also limited with how the character moves when you move on Sega there's bubonic the screen we've slightly up and down you simulate walking the Super Nintendo doesn't do that the screen stays in place Super Nintendo can handle the screen moving up and down to make up for weapon just moves more in your game so there's some limitations but my game still has more detail certain levels on Super Nintendo are more detailed in the Sega Game Plus my game is closer to the original game when it comes to level design and let's take a look at the maps the map on Super Nintendo is able to scale and rotate got to love that super FX 2 chip the second map can't rotate at all I have one more thing you don't the Super Nintendo game has floors and ceilings that move a pretty impressive graphical feat for just 16 bits you don't have any moving floors or ceilings on Sega I guess the 32x just couldn't handle it all right but my game definitely has more details let's just look at those floors the ceilings again the floors and ceilings of the Sega game are nice and textured sure it's not the prettiest thing to look at but it's better than this take a look at this liquid poison looks like it's moving on Sega and on Super Nintendo it's not moving at all it's just one color no text you're mapping like the Sega game it's probably for the best because I'm sure would have slowed the framerate even more check out this little detail you shoot a wall on Sega you see some smoke on the wall where the bullet hit pretty cool and on Super Nintendo no smoke just wall also we use a teleporter on Sega you see a green light effect on Super Nintendo no light let's talk about another thing sake game has more talking about blood on Sega if you hit a graph the rocket launcher sees guts explode on Super Nintendo you don't on Sega you see blood when he gets shot on Super Nintendo you don't let Sega you see lots of bloodied up bodies and walls and limbs hanging from the ceilings on Super Nintendo you don't Super Nintendo in blood a big no-no now let's talk about one of the worst graphics on Super Nintendo the enemies stupid Nintendo the enemies look fine they're hard to see a lot of time you're not sure if you're looking at an enemy or part of the background other times you can't even see them at all by contrast enemies on Sega are super easy to see whether the far away in the dark you name it good old easy to see enemies on Sega this one was easy with much better framerate more texture mapping on the floors and ceilings more details more blood and easier to see enemies best graphics go to Sega 32x [Music] there's similarities of presentation both games have title cards and endings HUDs during gameplay at the bottom of the screen are similar to I'll show you the ammo elf any keys you have doom guy and armor there's a slight difference with a gun where the Super Nintendo shows the actual weapon and Sega shows the number of weapons you have it's not a big deal similar but mine's definitely better look at the title cards again my background is bloody red and a demon from the game is there too the background of the Sega title card is blank way to go the extra mile 32x oh don't you worry about playing let me worry about blank let's look at that game play around my action is this stylish stone border solid the border around the Super Nintendo gameplay blank hmm guess my game did go the extra mile there let's talk about the menus after the title card and Sega you go to the game menu nothing fancy and then they let you choose the difficulty again nothing fancy but it's better than the Super Nintendo which has no menu at all if you want to change your difficulty you need to start the game pause select new game and then they let you pick the difficulty it's just a bunch of extra steps that make you go why so it's a little bit more work but let's talk about something that's completely missing from your game cutscenes simply put the Super Nintendo has cutscenes in the second game doesn't it's not much mostly just text but at least it's something and you get it in between episodes I bet you didn't even know the game was split into episodes if you only played the 32x game 3 to be exact and your ending has nothing to do with the story either it's pretty much the game just telling you good job it's not even a picture of a hand for a high five that's just stupid nyah dick still has its charm in the Sega ending you kill the enemies again with the touch of a button and this is Sega exclusive it's fun to easily take out those enemies who constantly killed you taking out your frustrations by shooting them over and over and over and over nope nope nope hey snap out of it sorry mine is just so fun Oh No well my presentation is better all around when you beat a level they give you the completion percentages on Super Nintendo this is done over a map a map that shows you where you've been and where you're going and you get a new map for each episode how do you like that and what do you see on Sega wood floors okay and now let's look at the doom guy there he is look in all tough when your life gets lower he gets bloodied up on the Super Nintendo who says Super Nintendo doesn't like blood now look at him on the second no blood he just lowers his head whose game looks lame now plus instead of animating his eyebrows like on Super Nintendo second got lazy and just mirrored the image it makes his hairline flip sides a lot on Sega also the Sega game just has car keys while the Super Nintendo game has car keys and sometimes skull keys even though they're practically the same thing it's a cool little detail only for the Super Nintendo game there's one more reason my presentations better text whenever you get an item on Super Nintendo it's accompanied by text at the top that tells you exactly what you've got it can even be funny like when you get the chainsaw find some meat and what a Sega do when you get an item nothing nothing at all way to drop the ball there Sega or text as it were well one more thing when you beat a level and sing it it tells you what numbers love will you beat when you start a level it tells you what number lovely you started thanks Sega what does the Super Nintendo game do no level numbers you don't know what numbered love will you beat you don't know what number level you're starting it's lazy my presentation is much better there's not that many levels you can keep track what are you telling me that I got a key track of the stuff in my head then I gotta have numbers in my mind all the time like I'm a scientist so I gotta go to college to play this game do I got it then work for the FBI but then not really work for them because it turns out I had stood for any of the whole time and then watch my family suffer as I deal with it and then somehow not go crazy and then win a Nobel Prize and then all of a sudden Ron Howard's gonna direct a movie with Oscars body is that what you're saying I need Ronny Howard please game why did I win not even close with a better title card cut scenes a map and text when you get an item best presentation goes to Super Nintendo [Music] Oh both have a seat music let's not kid ourselves though the quality is still much better on Super Nintendo the drop in quality is kind of shocking from Super Nintendo to Sega 32x they really drop the ball with this soundtrack by Robert Prince [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] I don't see it kind of sounds like farts is it is it parts cuz it's always farts all right let's compare the sound effects you pick up any weapon on Sega you get a cool shotgun sound a pound for every weapon even if it doesn't make sense Shane gun rocket launcher the plasma rifle even the chainsaw a little bit point is you don't get that cool sound effect on Super Nintendo okay but you're missing stuff too Super Nintendo has this title card music [Music] tsegga just reuses the music from the first level plus the super nintendo game has more songs [Music] [Music] [Music] it's the more complete soundtrack well it's not as cool shotgun reload sound effect for every weapon you get like you said it doesn't always make sense it's not that cool not cool huh how about this I don't know okay that's cool but most of our sound effects are the same this really comes down to his music quality which is much better in my game for having a way better soundtrack best sound goes to Super Nintendo it comes the gameplay almost the same both games are a first-person shooter object of the game is to get to the end of the level there'll be lots of enemies that need to kill along the way some will shoot or throw projectiles and some will just hit you when it comes to the controls you have one button to shoot one to switch weapons one to open doors and activate switches one button to run one for the map and buttons for strafing you have a nice variety of weapons at your disposal fist pistol shotgun chainsaw chain gun rocket launcher plasma rifle and BFG 9000 level design is pretty simple sans you can't jump you spend most of your time running and gunning sometimes you need to find security cards or skull keys to get through the level you might also run into elevators or teleporters but it's mostly about the running gunning even though this is one of the earliest first-person shooters it's still pretty fun oh yeah there's plenty to keep you engaged one of the more engaging parts of this game is the secrets when you beat a level they tell you what percentage of Secrets you found secrets mostly comprised of a hidden door or switch that leads to a secret room these rooms are usually full of goodies and make your journey much easier even after you've beaten the game it still has high replay value as you want to get a hundred percent of the secrets for every level after you kill all the enemies in the level it's easy to explore and stumble upon any secrets you may have missed you might see a new area on the map or here a secret passage as you walk by pretty fun the games are difficult but there is a learning curve it is possible to get better ones from your patterns level layouts and find more secrets frustration can be turned into triumphs with enough patience that's where our similarities end because our games have a lot of differences oh absolutely like your games missing three major things one levels divided in three episodes the Super Nintendo game has a total of 22 levels the second game only has 17 it doesn't have the levels from episode 3 5 more levels on Super Nintendo sounds pretty good to me and not only do you have fewer levels but you're missing some sections at the Super Nintendo game has two enemies with missing levels comes missing enemies the second game is missing the cyberdemon and the spider demon got him on the Super Nintendo game 3-gun the sega game is missing the BFG 9000 BFG does not stand for Big Friendly Giant it stands for big something gun you can figure it out this gun is found in the levels from Episode three which the Sega game is missing levels enemies and a gun the second game is missing quite a lot oh the BFG 9000 is in the Sega game through a cheat code the Sega game fully utilizes those seven weapon slots cheat code just sounds like more work to me okay granted the Satan game is missing a decent chunk from the original doom but I do have something you don't level select right from the main menu of the sega game is a level select it's incredibly useful because neither of these games have a save or password the super nintendo only lets you start at the beginning of each of the three episodes and that depends on the difficulty but the sega game lets you start from any of the first 15 levels only levels 16 and 17 need to be earned okay you can level select but even that's flawed on sega if you start from any other level than the first and beat the game you get the bad ending you don't even get to play the last level the game ends after level 15 and you get the DOS prompt after the credits that's fun and this also happens if you use any cheat codes so no BFG 9000 to get the last level and ending in my game is more forgiving say you died in the Super Nintendo game you get to keep all the weapons you got from the previous level when you restart the second game doesn't do that you lose all your weapons when you die on second much more difficult but losing guns and ammo when you die happens in the original game Plus keeping all your guns and ammo can be a double-edged sword say beat a level very few bullets if you die in the next level then you're gonna start with very few bullets it's not such a sweet deal now is it at least the Sega game always starts you off with a decent amount of ammo when you die the Super Nintendo game might not and we start up sewed two two and three in the Super Nintendo game lose all your guns and ammo anyway you never lose your guns and ammo on Sega unless you die don't die I think we can both agree that losing ammo isn't fun you know what else isn't fun glitches in Sega's got plenty of them the second game has bleaches nothing that ruins the gameplay but can definitely be distracting Super Nintendo doesn't have these glitches oh yeah but those glitches are pretty rare besides I want to get to the main reason in my game is better hang on there's a few other things I want to talk about first both games let you punch I mean it's not the best way to kill enemies but you can do it both games have a Berserker item that increases the strength of the fish temporarily it's easy to follow on Super Nintendo because the screen is red the whole time on Sega it's only red for a second then you have no idea how long you have the Berserker mode for a weird choice I can defend that the instruction manual says it lasts the whole level so there okay let's talk about the chainsaw when you get the chainsaw in Super Nintendo you can still use your fists cool on Sega you can once you get the chainsaw you can no longer use your fists no fisting I can defend it too when you get the Berserker on Sega you can use your fists again and that's the only time you really want to use your fist so it's a win win and not having the fist just makes it quicker to cycle through your weapons again Wayne Wayne okay well let's talk about the main reason that my game is better that way one more the Super Nintendo game has an invisibility powerup lets you sneak up on enemies but not too close or you'll be found Sega game doesn't have it Super Nintendo also has a powerup that makes it easier to see in dark areas Sega game doesn't have that either Sega game doesn't have those goggles because you can actually see everything in my game besides the main reason that my gameplay is better is cuz ah actually I do have one gripe about your controls the strafe moving side-to-side without turning is way easier on the Super Nintendo it's done simply by pushing L or R you only need one finger to do that on the second game you need to hold C and press the d-pad left or right two buttons easier on Super Nintendo you don't even get me started on how much more difficult the controls are on the 3 button controller I'll just say switching weapons and accessing the map are much more involved ok Getti my game is a lot of flaws what does it matter is my gameplays better cuz what oh I thought you were gonna interrupt me one more time because that's what you were doing no I'm done okay then what go for it as I was saying my gameplay is better it's got that sweet framerate like I said before the framerate on Sega is much smoother than the one on Super Nintendo not only does it look better but it makes it much better to play controls are so much tighter on Sega the difference feels like moving somebody normally versus moving them underwater the controls on Super Nintendo are so laggy and delayed turning a special is brutal you feel like you need to mash your thumb down as hard as possible just to move sure the Super Nintendo retains a lot more from the original game but it's such a chore to get through it'll hurt your eyes your fingers is way more frustrating than should be Super Nintendo game might have more features the safe game is far and away more functional ok it's a little choppy a little choppy no it's very choppy it is the worst amount of choppy it could possibly be while still being barely playable I'll give you some examples one area affected by the choppy framerate is running sometimes you need to run over a collapsing bridge spoiler alert you're not gonna make it it is so hard to accurately steer with the lag it can be hard to know if you're going in the right direction and sometimes left or run over poison or lava again the trappy framerate makes it more difficult to navigate and you'll be spending more time taking damage you'll overcompensate press down too hard on the d-pad and miss where you need to go the choppiness lag slower framerate really decreased the playability of the Super Nintendo game plus you also get stuck along walls more this can leave you open to attacks or use up temporary items Super Nintendo game plain and simple plays poorly and to add to that frustration enemies like I said before the enemies are hard to see in the Super Nintendo game the thing you'll be saying the most implying the Super Nintendo game is who's shooting or the more realistic who the is shooting both shirts available and DK nj.com along with other console wars merchandise it is incredibly frustrating not being able to see your enemies clearly answer than 10m poor controls and Hardesty enemies make this game so much worse unplayable at times you'll find yourself just shooting at anything hoping that you hit an enemy before you get attacked and Sega when you're shot be easily moved and then easily see who's shooting it you no more fair it's the more functional game one little nitpick with the Super Nintendo game I hate that the Super Nintendo map rotates it's annoying it's hard to figure out where you are right away since the math is constantly moving give me the set in place map of the Sega game any day I know exactly where everything is right away but you're missing so much well it's better to have an incomplete game that works and a more complete game that's just unplayable unplayable is just another kind of playable oh it's not for having much tighter controls with a smoother framerate being able to see your enemies pretty much being the lesser of two evils when it comes to controls best gameplay goes to cig 32x both games are a noble attempt at porting this game but one is better best doom goes to Sega 32x it has better graphics with a smooth frame rate more texture mapping on floors and ceilings more details more blood and easier to see enemies it doesn't have the cutscenes story text or even music quality of the Super Nintendo game it's also lacking levels enemies items and made some weird choices with the gameplay it's definitely an incomplete game but that can be forgiven because at the end of the day it's the more functional of the two games smoother frame rate of the Sega 32x makes the controls much tighter it overall more enjoyable experience to play not that the Super Nintendo game is completely terrible it was quite an achievement to do all it did with the hardware of the Super Nintendo and all fairness the Sega Genesis couldn't handle it so it needed a boost with the 32x while the Super Nintendo has many elements going for it it's flawed in two major areas to make it worse than the Sega game framerate and controls hard to look at hard to play not a good combination Sega game is missing so much because it was obviously rushed to be a launch title for the 32x they spent a little more time on it it could have been a great port but it's just a little bit better than the Super Nintendo game and that's good enough here best doom goes to Sega 32x [Music] well now that that's over it's time to relax huh right future in its Wars so you're gonna want to go ahead and take 32x game I know I heard I heard everything I've been standing here the whole time while you've been going over every tiny detail you two need to get out more so how's this work you just kind of go then yes the future needs me wait before you go can we get one question about the future sure not like I have anything in the future to do okay maybe we shouldn't ask anything too serious ooh how do we die what no no oh my god how was the third bill in ten movie I'll just say this how do you think I was able to time travel would be excellent to each other [Music] okay now time to stop those demonic sugar gliders yes it's working I'm doing it wait what is happening why is everything sobbing damn are you still waiting doom yeah I know what's playing it all day but what can I say it seems fun you had two copies of it no only got the one copy so if you're playing your copy what did the soldier take and where's my copy and this cool red cartridge for tricking me I can't believe I grabbed the wrong copy of the game sure we'll be fine oh no thanks for checking out our latest video be sure to LIKE comment subscribe special thanks to Bubba ice for his donation of
