hello guys corn here by now you should be able to make a decision on with our compressor is right for you if you haven't seen my initial discussion on this topic then pause this video and go and watch that one as it contains a lot of information I'm not going to cover again here don't worry I'll still be around when you get back good now before I move forwards a couple of things I'd like to address some people got a little bit pedantic about my explanation and the previous video so I'd like to qualify myself here I was very careful not to get the words compressor and compression confused I'd like to explain to you what I mean when I say them so people can stop complaining that I'm getting things wrong when I say the word compressor I'm talking about the lateral magic box and all the nonsense that goes on inside not everything that a compressor does is compression as other things going on there as well I don't want to get bogged down in terminology like make up gain and everything else so when I say compressor I'm talking about the overall effects you can experience when you plug in one of these paddles ultimately that's all as guitars care about I'm not talking about compression itself and how it works that's something for you nearly sound engineers to worry about let's take a look at the two compressors then one vintage and one new we have the Max and CP 101 this is a legit vintage compressor simple and features and classic and sound and TC Electronics hypergravity feeling new to the market packs all the best features and past and present starting with the max on there this is a typical vintage control setup just two knobs here sustain which controls the amount of compression you're applying and level which raises the overall volume of the signal leaving the kettle it sounds thick and dark Navasota of vintage compressors it's not a subtle compressor by any means and while it's not as clear or transparent as its modern counterparts this sound has defined what many people expect to hear from a compressor and the music where they are predominantly used TCS hypergravity on the other hand is expectedly more complex it features the same sustain and label controls as a Maxon add to that with attack which tailors how quickly the compressor will squash down onto your nose extremely useful if you want to be able to keep some bright attack alongside your clean sustain blend is a vital feature for all good modern compressors as the name suggests it blends between the dry and compressed signal and the compressed sound leaving the pedal let's schedule eyes so much more natural sounding compression start laying some Genomics to be haired while giving you all the benefits a compressor provides the Medi toggle switch selects between three different modes spectra gives you your full range of modern transparent compression that's usually found in much more expensive rack effects in fact hypergravity uses the same multiband compression algorithms that on TC system 6000 studio platform making this potentially the most powerfully advanced compressor pedal ever made vintage flips hypergravity into old-school vintage squash getting sounds exceptionally close to our marks in 101 F a little brighter clearer toneprints again is for you earn control of the compressor the answer allows fine-tuning of all the parameters within the algorithm perfect for custom setups and the artist library allows you to beam artists rated sounds sets your pedalboard under the hood the big differences between these pedals becomes apparent Maxon is an analogue pedal getting all of its sounds from the components on the board it's designed to do one thing and do it well it's a full band compressor which means it applies the same level of compression across all frequencies at once this can make it difficult to balance the compression between the high and low strings but of old-school vintage squashes what you're after then you won't be dissapointed hypergravity as a digital pedal getting all of its sounds from algorithms and processors thats allows it to be a lot more flexible and complex the biggest difference here is that hypergravity is a multiband compressor thank you very separate compressors each dealing with a different frequency range within your signal this means you won't have to compromise between having your high and low strings compressed just right a compress at their own rates and this will go some way to help and retain your high-end quality which is often lacking when you use vintage compressors one thing I fail to bring up last time was the use of compressors with extended range guitars and the genres in which they are prevalent when extended range guitars the disparity between volumes are the high and low strings is quite significant and using a good multiband compressor to even things out is fairly vital to achieving a consistent sound for my money the hypergravity is simply astounding in terms of sound quality and usability for the longest time I thought I just didn't need one of these but this has essentially sold me on the concept of compressors after using it I can see a great many applications of where this can be utilized effectively and what I do the max in 101 is excellent as well but it's so specialized in its sound I don't think it'd be useful for anything that I would want to do but certainly a fantastic partner for a Telecaster if you're playing some country gigs and want to get that classic vintage sound if you're still unsure of the concept of compressors than I highly suggest packing up a hypergravity and having a play around with it so many great features on here you're bout to find a sound that's useful to you and even if you don't like it these things sale secondhand for pretty much what they cost new so you won't be a pocket long if you want to sale it on vintage style compressors are pretty much only good for one sound so if you know that's what you want to achieve and by all means snap one up they're great for that but otherwise I suggest going for something about more modern with better sound quality and better features and you won't get disillusioned with the effect that way once again thanks to TC Electronic for hooking me up with this and helping you fall in love with something I thought I hated I can't wait to set this up on a small alternate pedal board sometime in future if you liked this video and want to see more gear discussed and compared here and you can hit the subscribe button and you'll see all the new content I'm bringing out that way most available and all the social media antek leave a comment in the comment section below let me know what compressors you're using and what you thought about these ones anyway that's all for just now so if you guys want to keep a load I'll see you later
