Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I see that the one sentence argument "randomness cannot be the basis of free will" gets the usual one sentence .
Compatibilism gets BODIED by handsome young genius.
SS: CosmicSkeptic takes Sam's side vs Daniel Dennett and mentions their debate. In his view, compatibilists are redefining free will to suit their needs and ultimately even that redefinition may not be enough.
I think people need to more carefully consider whether determinism is a metaphysical or epistemological concept. When we evaluate whether a process is deterministic, we are pretty much always evaluating whether there seems to be a procedure by which the future could be known from the present. CosmicSkeptic offers the common definition of determinism that "if we wound the clock back, everything would happen the same way", which honestly boggles my mind, because there is literally no way that this definition is connected to the empirical standards used to evaluate determinism, and in fact it's not even clear that "winding the clock back" is metaphysically meaningful.
