[Music] [Music] so [Music] hi everyone it's me roxanne and i'm back today with a brand new video sharing my thoughts and comparing my new singer c430 professional sewing machine to my older singer quantum stylist 9960 i've gotten a lot of questions about what i think about this new machine and i'm going to be sharing them with you now i'm going to be comparing the features of each machine the stitch quality the functionality or how user-friendly this machine is the accessories that it comes with and the specs so if you're interested in learning more about this machine stay tuned now i'm going to show you some of the features of the 430 and compare them to the features on the 9960 this is a view from the top portion of the sewing machine and they both have a lift up handle which is very nice to carry it around from place to place and they both have lift up top covers that show all the different stitch options that this machine offers one of the things that i found that was a little bit different from the 430 to the 9960 was the location of the bobbin winder it's located in the front of the machine under the top cover and i found it to be a little bit harder to access than the one on the 9960 that is more centrally located under the top cover this one just seemed harder for me to pull the bobbin uh on and off it's not a deal breaker but i did find it was a little bit more cumbersome it has the same or very similar threading system as well it also has the horizontal spool pin that can be lifted up and it has the location here which is the same position for the auxiliary spool pin now i'm going to move on down the machine and show you more features this machine has many of the same top of the line features as the singer 9960 it has speed control it has a backstitch button and on this machine i like the where the backstitch button is located much better than on the 9960 where it's located down lower it's located front and center here so there's no missing it sometimes you can hit the needle up needle down or even the start stop button because they're also close together it has a needle up needle down and of course our favorite feature the onboard scissors this machine also has autopilot so that you can sew with the start stop button by disconnecting your foot control it has snap on presser feet it also has the same auto needle threader and it has a drop in bobbin and this machine uses the class 15 transparent bobbin it also has the inside the harp presser foot lifter that will lift to a second presser foot level it's not stable at the second level on either machine but it gives you extra room to get a heavier project in there it has a storage compartment in the removable tray and when you remove the tray you'll find that you have your feed dog lever drop this is the button that you press over and it will drop your feet dogs and then you can do free motion embroidery or free motion quilting just remember when you press the lever back over to engage them you have to turn your hand wheel at least one full rotation for them to come back up to the proper position before i start talking about stitch quality i want to power up each machine so you can hear how it sounds when it's turned on this is the c430 and this is the 9960. now that sound that you hear is completely normal and what that sound is it's calibrating the machine at its power up each time to make sure that everything is in perfect alignment so that when you start stitching you have really great stitch quality so now i'm going to show you some of the samples that i did stitching the same stitches on each machine and showing you how great they look now my first example are button holes i stitch the same buttonholes on both machines the red is the 9960 and all of the black stitching is from the c430 now as many of you know i love the buttonhole attachment and the buttonhole feature on the singer 9960. i recently posted an instagram video of doing my marcy mccall's buttonholes consecutively on my dress and they turned out fabulous so i really love that buttonhole feature this is the buttonholer that came with the c430 and i used the same button in each button holder but for some reason the buttonholes came out sized a little bit differently even though they're the same buttonhole now on the singer uh c430 they are numbered a little bit differently but they're the same buttonholes so this one is a simple buttonhole it's 101 and 104 on the 9960 and the only difference between the first two and this the third one down is that i went around the buttonhole twice just so you could see a heavier look then as i went down i used the double rounded end buttonhole and then something strange happened when i got to the keyhole button it seems that it stitches in the opposite direction as the 9960 on the c430 all the buttonholes start at the top and stitch to the bottom and then go back up to the top where they finish so for some reason the keyhole buttonholes stitch out backwards so i want you to be aware of that now as i'm moving down stitches 28 by the 9960 and 27 on the c430 are the same stitch this is the stitch that i used on my last project the whimsical christmas tree applique they look pretty comparable to me the next stitch is stitch 70 on the 430 and stitch 71 on the 9960 and this is the serpentine stitch many people in our group like to use this stitch for quilting and it really looks great this is the serpentine stitch again i just elongated it quite a bit to give it a different look but it's the same stitch now don't forget both machines have the elongation feature and the mirroring feature on some of their decorative stitches the next stitch this is the stitch that i used in my cording video not long ago where i stitched down the embroidery thread and in the c430 it's number 49 and in the 9960 it's stitch number 50. and the last stitch that i have to show you is the hand quilting stitch which the c430 has it's number seven and in the 9960 it's number eight and we've all used that that stitch a lot and we really like it because it gives a hand sewn look by using invisible thread in the top so i also found that there were a few stitches that were not included on the c430 that were on the 9960. there's no basting stitch anymore on the c430 and numbers 91 and 90 are both omitted from this machine as well as the deco stitch number 22 so you don't have those stitches both of these machines offer 60 characters in memorization mixing letters numbers and deco stitches but unfortunately neither machine once they're powered down will have any memory as far as those combinations go both the 9960 and the c430 have the same five fonts the most asked question i get on my youtube channel is can i make the letters and the numbers larger on my machine the answer to that is no the letter and number stitches are preset into the machine and they are not able to be edited please keep in mind that this is not an embroidery machine it's a sewing machine that has letter and number sewing features so i just want you to be aware of that so that you're not disappointed if you purchase either machine and you find out that you're not able to make them larger one of the most important points of any machine is the functionality or how user friendly the machine is one thing that really struck me when i received my singer 9960 back in 2011 is that when i sat down and i opened it and started playing around with it for the first time it was so user friendly all of the buttons for the utility stitches and the the buttonhole stitch and the twin needle and the deco stitch everything was right here at my fingertips and i really like that whereas when i got the c430 although i i find it to be adequate i felt like there was more hunting around i didn't find that it was quite as user friendly with having so few buttons as it was with the 9960 another small drawback was that the c430 does not come with a written manual like the 9960 did the manual is online and i've already received a couple concerns about that that they really would rather have a written manual instead of having to go online and download a pdf well i understand singer's reasoning behind this is to have less paper and to be more green but i think sewers and sewists we really like to have that manual in our hand at our fingertips at any moment that we'd really want to just look something up and check it out we don't always want to run to our computer or our tablet or a youtube video to see how something functions but one thing they did do is they offered a quick start guide and it shows you the basics it shows you how to get started with threading how to get started winding a bobbin [Music] basically how to set up a machine so you do have that but the rest of the manual is in pdf version online i wanted to bring up three points that this new c430 has that the 9960 doesn't have and then i consider to be an upgrade the first thing that i liked much more on the c430 was the location of the backstitch button i know i mentioned this before but i think that this really was an upgrade for singer i think by putting it right in front there isn't any mistaking um where the backstitch button is and you don't risk hitting the start stop or the needle up another improvement is that i think uh having additional harp space and not having such a curvy inside area here where it's much more straight i think it gives quite a bit more room for anybody making a larger project and definitely another upgrade was not having all the buttons here on the side that can be pressed accidentally and disrupt any of your stitch patterns so i think singer was really listening when they heard um these concerns and they've gone ahead and they've taken steps to upgrade in this model now i'm going to talk a little bit about the accessories that each machine comes with as you know the singer 9960 uh came with a value-added package of five additional presser feet i really wanted all of the extra feet that that machine came with for my singer quantum l 500 that was my original motivation so i've never made a secret that i bought the machine just for all the additional accessories that the machine came with a couple of the things that the 9960 comes with that the c430 does not is a extension table and a hard cover now the quantum stylus is about 130 dollars more with all the additional feet and with those two accessories so you'll have to make your mind up and decide whether those additional accessories and presser feet are worth the price um the accessories that the 430 does come with are um five presser feet presser foot a the general purpose foot presser foot b to sew the deco stitching a blind hem foot this can also be used as a stitch in the ditch foot also a top stitching foot the zipper foot this is a dual sided presser foot that can be used on either side and of course your buttonhole foot it also comes with four class 15 bobbins and some regular needles it also comes with a couple of additional items which are the auxiliary spool pin the small screwdriver to take out your needle plate screws it's really important to clean under there it comes with a little brush it comes with a seam ripper and it comes with a small spool cap so the 430 doesn't come with as many accessories but it is at a much lower price point with many top of the line features now i'm going to share some specifications of each machine the machines are both about 18 inches wide it's a little under 18 inches for both machines they're about eight and a half inches deep and just about 12 inches high just below and they're both very close in size uh the singer quantum stylist comes in just a little over 18 pounds and the c430 is 20 pounds to visually look at this machine i thought this one was smaller than the 9960 but it's really not it's just an illusion one of the questions that i got was what is the harp space and the difference in this machine to the 9960 is that this it has a straight harp space whereas the 9960 has a very rounded harp space which takes up more room and takes room away from your project so from the center of the needle to the inside of the arm it's six and three quarters whereas the singer 9960 is only a little bit over six inches both machines have lcd screens and they also have led lighting right at the needle point i always use overhead lighting but i've also seen other owners mount led lighting inside the harp space and that really gives you a lot of extra lighting so that's that's an option for you as well now i have a couple other specs that uh to share with you uh the machine both machines are 120 volts they are 60 hertz 55 watts and 0.46 amps both of them are so i'm not sure what any of that means but it may mean something to you if you're interested in purchasing either one of these machines so there you have it my comparison review of the singer 430 to my older singer quantum stylist 9960 i just want you to be aware that i've purchased both these machines myself i have not received these machines in compensation for any kind of a review all of the thoughts on either machine are my own and through my own experiences so my point in doing this video is to give you all the information so that you can make a good decision if you're interested in buying either machine so if you've liked what you've seen please consider subscribing to my channel and giving me a like if i haven't covered something in this video that you'd like to learn about either one of these machines please leave a comment down below and i'm happy to answer so as always have a happy creative day bye now you
