it's always great to start my day with you Bob appreciate it good to have you man so what you got so in proverbs 10 and verse 4 there's a verse that says he who has a slack hand becomes poor but the hand of the diligent makes rich on the surface that sound States kind of an obvious thing if you work hard you'll have something to show for it if you don't work you'll be broke but I think it points to a much greater privilege that God gives us is we have the ability to make decisions today that actually help determine our future and obviously there are other factors but we are able to make decisions today that influence what happens later and it's one of the greatest privileges that God gave humans when he gave them that ability of self-determination of course it opened the door to making bad decisions and paying bad prices but but that's like if you have an opportunity to slack off um then you have only yourself to blame when you have nothing to show for your efforts but I think today as we look at our day as we start a new day we can ask ourselves not just financially but in every other way what investments am I going to make in the future in my own future and other people's future based on how I choose to spend my time and my efforts and you know my money and everything else today so thinking of every morning as a new opportunity to invest in the future is pretty empowering I think yeah I do too and I think some of us missed the mark and we'll talk about that on the other side but can you uh can you pray for us yes Lord we just thank you so much for the wonder that you designed within us the ability to have an influence on our own determination our own ends our own results what happens in the future that's just amazing but Lord we want to be responsible today and so you know that for every one of us for everyone who's listening or watching we make choices and those choices have consequences so may we look at our time our resources our energy our thought life as an opportunity to make a difference in the future to make things better for ourselves and for others and to bring Glory To You Lord may we not just slack off today and miss those opportunities squander those opportunities to truly influence what happens in the future so Lord lead and guide us and help us to make those wise choices and what we do with with everything that we have today we pray this in Jesus name amen amen so hey let's uh talk about this some more join us on Facebook and YouTube we'll do just that and here on kwave Pastor Greg Lori shows us how the new beginning prayer is good pastor prayer is an essential thing in every everyday life but if you're praying for something to happen but you're not doing anything then what's what's the point you know I don't think that's how God works you know you got to you got to do something you have hands and feet if you're praying for a a better future or a job and you're not going and interviewing or you're not setting up those interviews and not putting together your resume well then you're not really doing much yeah and and I think sometimes and prayer is a good example of this sometimes people will pray for something and it it doesn't go down the way they want it to yeah and they decide not to believe in prayer yeah and it's the same way with effort you really pour a effort you you know you were a little kid and you wanted to be a major league baseball player you worked so hard and it didn't work out for you to become a major league baseball player so you just decide to never work hard at anything again that's the same as a person who who gives up on prayer just because prayer isn't automatic there are other factors involved and God knows more than we do so I think we need to be reminded often that if I can do what I can then I can entrust it to God James talks about in prayer you don't have because you don't ask so as as wild as that is there are some things that haven't happened because we haven't prayed for them according to James yeah now that should be incredibly powering empowering to us but that doesn't give us all the power it doesn't mean that you know like with the some of the faith teachers that would say that you know you name it and you claim it no there are other factors other people have opportunities to affect the future as well and certainly God does but I think if we give up on what we can do and decide that you know if I can't be the boss if I can't done everything if I can't get my will every time then I'm just going to quit trying yeah and as a result we miss opportunities to make a difference we become discouraged and we feel like victims and you know we're victims in some ways but at the same time we're also those to whom God has given an amazing opportunity I mean and really going back to Adam and Eve why did God create people with the ability to choose to disobey him apparently there's something really valuable in having an ability to self-determine and so God knew that that was so important that it was worth um all the damage that sin ultimately does and so I think we don't we don't celebrate enough how amazing it is that I can do something today that actually does affect the future that's right and there's a danger in just giving up and giving up on God and not praying about it anymore because you you can get bitter you can get angry about it you can start getting jealous of people who are enjoying that the success that you want and then you're sitting there wondering what do they have that I don't kind of thing and you get you get mad at them and you don't look at all the work that they put into to it and you don't ask them any questions like how did you do it you know how help me along maybe find a mentor to help you in that direction um I mean there's many ways many Avenues you can pursue that thing that you're looking for but the main thing is you know you you want to listen for God and the path that he puts you on and i' I'd say nine times out of 10 his plan is not going to line up with how you think it's going to work out you know uh it's it's usually a roundabout way because he wants to teach you a few lessons along the way yeah and and life is complicated because he isn't just dealing with me he's dealing with a whole lot of other people who are affected by everything that happens too so God is so amazing to be able to give each of us opportunities to make a difference and have not one person become the one that gets all the answers and another person who doesn't but it's working in all of us together and we don't want to be like a little kid who whenever you know every time their parent says no they say you always say no of course not don't always say no but you you somebody's in charge and God's in charge and so there are sometimes when he says no because he has a better yes because what we were trying to do and what we were asking for really wasn't our best opportunity if most people think of the first ambition they ever had of what they wanted to do with their life it probably isn't something that they ended up doing and they probably would have been miserable if they had become what at one point they thought they want to do so God brings his his wisdom into the into the situation but just even to have an influence to me is amazing yeah and on the opposite end of that you're you're doing everything you possibly can to break into whatever you want to do and it's just not working out maybe God is saying no for now it could be a for now but but we don't know yet you know so um the the challenge is to listen for God in his Direction and where he wants you to go maybe that is a no for now maybe it's a no forever maybe he has a better plan for you
