I'm still waiting on a Wilberg arrangement of "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief" that has a similar buildup to this. I mean like the crescendo of all crescendos for the final verse.
I really really want this.
The only bad part about this arrangement is that it completely ruins any other arrangement of this music for me. If it isn't the straight up hymn, or this arrangement, it just shouldn't be done.
Kind of like Battle Hymn of the Republic. If it isn't the plain hymn, or the Wilhousky arrangement, then it is wrong :)
I love his arrangements. So much good stuff by him.
If you like that one, you'll love this. The emotion of the singers in the last minute or so gets me every time.

My ward's choir worked on this nearly every week for about 3 years, and I still absolutely love listening to it. I can't imagine what it'd be like to sing it with as many fantastic musicians as this though. I would probably be singing through tears!
Thank you for sharing this link. I loved listening to this AGAIN this morning. This is by far, my absolute favorite hymn. Mac's arrangement is so powerful. What's your favorite part?
I love what the violins are playing when the choir sings the fourth verse: "O to grace how great a debtor..."
And for me, it's a powerful message: "Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love. Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above." How true is that? How true that I would gladly give my heart to Him so that I may stay on the "strait and narrow," and not wander away from Him.
Have you had the chance to listen to the choir perform this live? That is an incredible experience. I used to go every time it was on the program (my Mom is the concertmaster for the Orchestra so she would email me earlier in the week when she found out they would be performing it--you can see here at 4:19 and again at 5:00). Unfortunately, I haven't been for over a year now because we have a baby.
Thanks again! Great music to start off a work day.
