hey people it's temmie if you're new here and i'm coming at you with something a little bit different today so i've seen this kind of video going around on youtube where you just color in a children's coloring book as a professional artist my normal style is more realistic and i wanted to try my realistic style but obviously with a cartoony drawing so with that let's go [Music] i don't own any children's coloring books but a while ago color noir app reached out to me on instagram to see if i wanted to download their free e-coloring book and i thought why not i love a freebie so i downloaded it and thought nothing of it but when i had this video idea i thought perfect let me use their coloring books today this video isn't sponsored or anything but i thought it would be great to use something that you guys can also download if you want to so i'll leave a link to it down below and it has all of these pages of really cute illustrations and i've printed two of them out and i'm trying to decide which one to color so i think the side view might be a bit harder so let's try our hand on that for today's coloring and to be honest i don't want to hear that it's cheating that it's not really children's coloring book because i'm so sorry this is all i could get my hands on so please there's no fight to do okay two people that i've seen absolutely ace this challenge are chloe rose art and adc art attack i'll link both their channels down below amazing amazing work but chloe when she did this video did a really cool technique where she transferred the drawing onto wood and then she painted it honestly incredible scenes you guys should definitely check that video out if you haven't but that inspired me to then transfer the line work onto my sketchbook so that i could use markers and everything else like normal so i'm using this arteza transfer paper and it has so many sheets inside it's so great because you can reuse it i'll link it and all the supplies i used today down below as usual and i'm just drawing over the lines in biro i'm using a different color by ro so that i can kind of see where i've sketched already but this is a fantastic transfer technique and i use this for my normal work anyway because i like to sketch on a separate sheet of paper and then transfer the sketch when i'm happy with it if you don't have a graphite sheet like this not to worry you can always shade the back of the page with a pencil say like a soft pencil and then you can sketch over the lines as normal but now that we've got our sketch we're ready to start coloring i've got this new set of ahoohoo brush markers and i'm super excited to use it for the base of this piece so this is what it looks like it's got brush marker on one end and it's got a smaller tip on the other it also comes with this bit of plastic maybe that you can use to lean on so that when you're coloring it doesn't bleed through to the next page and i'll definitely be using that because if you saw my last ohuhu video you know that it bled through a little bit and i was not happy about that and also i've already done the swatches so i've swatched all 120 colors and guys i'm in love with this color range i initially used the chisel tip in the hundred colors and i've been waiting for the brush ship to get back in stock so when who who reached out to send me these i was too excited so now i'm just looking at the color swatch card i'm trying to think about where the skin tones lie so i'm thinking brown skin and i don't know what colors to use for her outfit yet but i'm just trying to understand what colors might even make sense this is my first time using the set and if you saw my last video using the huhu markers i was coloring blue skin so it was very different i'm a bit scared i'm not going to lie but let's start off with these colors and see what we can come up with starting off easy with the brown eyes i don't know what is possessing me to use this massive brush marker instead of the other end but clearly i'm brave like even for the small dot i'm using this massive marker but at least nothing's gone wrong yet and i'm just trying to go simple because i really don't know of course we know the whites of the eye isn't complete white so i've got a little bit of gray shadowing going on and then let's try this skin for all my normal portrait pieces i always start with the eye because i think it's important to start with the part of the drawing i want to put the most amount of time on but while doing this i'm just realizing that i don't know if this technique will work today because the browns are looking a bit higgy and haggar already i'm not feeling this at all you guys are regular subscribers of mine you know that i've got a fantasia which means i can't see or visualize things in my mind so having a blank canvas like this is very scary i'm used to copying a reference picture almost exactly so having to imagine where the shadows will go or where the darker colours could go or how to do anything it's just honestly so difficult and i have a reference picture that i'm kind of referencing so that i have this right skin tone colors but at the same time this line drawing is like a side view so of course it's not easy to actually reference anything when doing this kind of coloring and that's kind of why i wanted to try this video because stuff like this is so difficult for me and i don't know if you guys can relate but if i can't see something it feels like i'm just firefighting the entire way and look at how higgy and haggar everything is looking like this is not cute i'm thinking okay let me just color the whole base and then try to add shadowing here and there but having a stark white background here is kind of scary i'm using the darker brown now to add a bit of shadowing but you can see that there is a big difference from the first brown i used to this one and she's still not looking cute i'm just like i don't want a cartoony style i want a realistic style but where did the shadows go i'm not too sure i'm just trying my best i'm just trying to do something that's making sense and an awful attempt at blending oh my god i've picked the first color again and i'm trying to go over the same spots because it makes it slightly darker but this ain't cute and guys don't give up on me please because this is where we're at the ugly phase so i always speak about the ugly face in my videos and god god god this thing is looking all types of hideous right now i was like sis do you really think you can color because this ain't it you're meant to be a professional artist what are you doing i even messaged my friend like i'm about to give up nothing is blending everything is looking ashy i'm second guessing every decision i've made so far why did i choose this skin tone for her maybe if i'd gone darker it would have been easier to blend but either way this ain't it and this is where trusting the process really comes in and fighting through the ugly phase because remember this marker base is just the marker base i'm still going to go over it in color and pencils but at the same time i'm still trying to get a base that makes sense so honestly this was a higgity haggardy mess no matter how much layering i'm trying to do nothing feels like it's coming together and at this point i'm ready to give up so i actually left the drawing overnight and i came back the next day with a renewed mind a better mindset ready to make something that makes sense and this is advice i get for people that feel stuck sometimes if you're tired of the drawing take a break take a step back come back the next day come back in a few hours and come back ready to finish the drawing you've got this at the moment i think i'm really struggling with my values which looks at the lights and darks in the piece and i think because i don't have the darkest points i'm just kind of struggling with how this skin tone is looking all together but i'm just outlining the braids so that it starts feeling like it's coming together and honestly it's still looking hideous but we're gonna fix this it's time for colour and pencils to come to the rescue i'm using prismacolors and i've got this massive set and i'm just hoping that it can help with this blend a little bit because this ain't it this part of the process is really just trial and error so i've already got the base colors down and i'm just trying to use the pencils to blend it a little bit and the reason why i use markers in the first place is because it helps you cover large areas so if i was using coloring pencils by myself it would be a much bigger struggle so the markers just helps to cover the large area and then i can use the coloring pencils to add a bit of detail add a bit more blending i'm using different colors like i'm using purples for some of the shadows i'll go in with some cooler colors as well for some of the shadows a little bit later on but the color pencil process is what really brings the piece together and if you want to learn how to use colour and pencils how to blend all of that i've got an entire playlist so i'll link it on the screen and down below and it'll really help you if you're new to coloring pencils just to be able to blend just to be able to mix your colors and with this piece that's all i'm doing and the more you layer the more it starts to come together so it's really the patience and the perseverance that you give the piece and now i'm ready for the eyeliner and again adding the darkest value there really just helps to bring the piece together and i'm trying to keep the lashes in the same cartoony style of the sketch i don't think i'm going to outline over everything when i'm done but i'm just trying to make sure that i'm sticking to the line work of the original piece of art we've got to add some baby hair because one thing that's going to make this thing look realistic and cute is some cute baby hairs just going back into the braids and i love it like look how cute it is and look how it's just kind of elevated and she's looking like she's got some fresh braids it's looking too cute i'm leaving the skin where it is at the moment and throughout this process there's a lot of back and forth but at the moment i'm thinking let's tackle the braids if the braids are looking cute she'll look more put together in general so yeah let's do the braids and with the way the sketches i'm feeling like these are locks and not like box braids so i'm using a white pencil and i'm just going to kind of back and forth directions so the easiest way to draw braids is to have a base color which is the dark brown that i've chosen and then to go over it with a lighter color so like a white or a gray and just to follow the direction of the braid so if i was doing more of a box braid then i would have chosen a different pattern but yes i'm just following the direction of the braid so that it's kind of looking a little bit realistic and it's looking cute now to get the braids really looking cute i'm going to use a dark gray marker just to go over the edges of the white so with the way these locks are and if you look at reference pictures of logs it always has like the super shiny bit in the middle and then it has almost like a clear defined line for each braid so that's what i'm trying to do here i'm just going over the edges of each of these scribbles that i've made this is what just gets it looking so cute but it was so quick to do as well now that her locks are done for the neck and the rest of the skin that we can see i tried a slightly different technique where i only put a base color down and instead of trying to blend the markers i would then use my coloring pencils to add the shadows and the highlights and again this was a bit of a struggle because of this whole side view it's like where are my shadows really going where's the light coming from i didn't really think about that at the start so at this point i'm just trying to make something that makes sense using some purples for the shadows and then using blue for the deepest darkest shadows and trying to blend everything with the pencils but i think i've got it to a good point and i'm going to try to do the clothes and i've got the color swatch in front of me again and i don't know why i'm just thinking of a bright pink this rp6 vivid pink but also mixing it with something a little bit different like a yellow so if you guys know anything about ankara african print there's super bright colors and i just want to represent that a little bit in her outfit today so these are the two colors i'm gonna go for today and i think the yellow is so nice because it really complements the skin tone but also the bright pink is giving me african princess african royalty i am so here for it and clearly i can't color in the lines here i am being brave again using the brush marker side guys please be better than me so i've got this cute pattern going and i'm so here for this outfit like i would actually wear this in real life and i'm just trying to use the coloring pencils to add a little bit of shadowing so that we've just got a tiny bit of detail again with our reference picture this really is a struggle but we move for the choker i've colored it in yellow and pink like this because i really want to use gold foil for the necklace just to make it pop but putting this gold phone next to it it's not cute i'm not gonna lie and actually gold foil goes absolutely everywhere but i love how cute it looks on my nails right now so that might be a nail look coming in the future but for this one yeah i'm really not here for it i kind of wish i went inverted so the pink would be the actual choker and the yellow would be the dots but while i'm playing with this gold foil i'm just like hang on a minute what if i used it as little cuffs in her hair and if you've seen those braided styles you know how cute they are and i'm just here for it because with this kind of outfit i could see my little sister having you know these little gold cuffs and it just brings the whole outfit together so i'm using pva glue just to go all around the braid so that i can then put the gold foil on top of it and this was very fiddly to work with especially with my nails maybe next time i'll try to use tweezers or something to help but i'm so here for it did this thing not just go to the next level i am so pleased with how it's coming out so far like remember the ugly phase like how many minutes ago we overcame and she's looking cute her pink tread outfit is making me feel like she should have a richer pink lipstick color you know that matte ruby color is that not mac rebel lipstick that's what i'm feeling just a richer pink on her lips so i'm just adding that and now i'm taking off the excess gold foil and guys she is done we need to give her a name leave a comment down below what we should name her she has come out so cute i really hope you liked it i loved doing this if you want to see me do more of these give this video a thumbs up thank you so much for watching please like please subscribe and i'll see you on my next one goodbye
