we did it we finally did it we we can't be sideways sorry but we're gonna be up and down ways y'all welcome to the office quarantine JAMA Palooza Cheers I got me a cooler full of beer here I've I've got some fun stuff right now we're just pretending this is all the roll out music like there's just being huge like that you just went down and also there's this cool music and then the lights go down and the band walks out and looks cool then I walk over to the left side of the stage and I collect this in a regular chair and then I go over the right side of the stage and I go like this everybody goes yeah then I go to the center of the stage and I just look around like Hulk Hogan and the whole time in my mind I'm wanting to crack a big-ass smile so we can't do that tonight so what we're gonna do is we're gonna be old school this is like me setting up 15 16 17 years ago in a corner bar and there was never anybody in there anyway so it didn't matter if I messed up it didn't matter anything like that so I'm gonna sing some songs I've got some requests here and I'm gonna do some of those I like I like the fielding questions thing so I've got some good ones written down [Music] and I hope that you guys are healthy and well and together and and enjoy this I've gotten to see Sonny do this and ward do it and TJ and Morningstar and whitey and Rebecca and I we watched those together too and we sit on the porch and watch them in clap and raise hell and yeah you know so I know you guys are gonna be out there doing that and dancing and that makes my heart happy so let's get go [Music] you we sing have a funny way you see what the world might someday be why can't they just let it be same kind of crazy use me a single thing we take with us when we've gone so I'll just walk the band a and I learned that from Matt Hillier at from 1100 Springs so anytime I say I'm gonna sing a song or have a song about on that song we take a drink so wallet go I'm gonna be bullshitting quite a bit too I'm gonna sing some songs no more here with you okay been two months since I played live it's got to hang out with you folks try not to get too long-winded but while ago I got you know have the mono song and four years back before text messaging mom would call me on the cell phone tell me have a good show text me text messaging came in to play and now mom text me before every show every show every day she has for years and years and years so that's thousands of phone calls and text messages and I know she's out in East Texas with my dad and my sister and brother-in-law and all my beautiful nieces I know they're watching tonight and usually when mom is able to watch a show she comes up and does this song with me so mom sing your ass off I'll be able to hear you [Music] can I have a six-pack oatmeal walking in a hat back I can't do like a date I was here this is all I know cuz I know you always worry about me drinking my banner but I don't do that anymore get this sweet girl at home just eat food on the table meaning that she leaves me so I've got me this piece of paper I got my favorite and I know it's been a little while talking's not my style and I just had to but first off let's take a question one question Tyler I hope I pronounced his Kriner Craner Kriner Tyler Kriner is a lab scientist in Michigan and I can only imagine what your job is like right now but you said you're ready for the times to get better so I figured before I have too many beers I'm gonna try to do this song because I haven't played it in probably two years or so so this is one of those honky-tonk nights if I screw something up whatever man but I remember um my wife and I being two houses ago so a long time ago we were putting songs together for the Adobe sessions record and this song came on and my wife said you need to record this [Music] that's pretty good into that's good enough it's been a long time [Music] these mouths and ready for turns to get better I've got to you have been racking my brain to find a way I've known tap discontinued right it's a smile I'm ready for the times you [Music] seem to want something that I cannot give I feel so awesome I have this as many that combine some of these cuz we had so many you could imagine so my good buddy that I've known for a long time Mike Hawkins they're out west here now he and his family are but we we grew up together in junior high and he and his wife wanted to hear a song that I hadn't prepared yet but they also wanted to hear this one as a backup so this one is from a personal text so Mike and then uh Kara Smith as well wanted to hear this one and actually it's funny uh the woman that I wrote this song about was at my very first show that I ever played live at a bar in 1997 I think it was when I was in a brand-new heavy metal band and [Music] my girlfriend at the time was not my girlfriend we had broken up for a little bit and a little thing go on but she still came to see me play about she saw how awesome we were pretty much sealed the deal we got back together the rest is history and just like many other nights she's the only person sitting here right now watching me play she's sitting right over there oh man this is so funny so yeah here's to you know 23 years later did you be the only ones there again but I wrote this right after I got home from California back in in 2003 so this did because I mean I have plenty of guitars here don't get me wrong I have ton of guitars here I always wanted a hummingbird and I finally got one and I absolutely love it and I haven't even had it set up yet it just came right out of the box just sound pretty good needs a setup but my old trusty Jay 45 is uh locked up in a case in a trailer in a case behind my tour bus which is in Mississippi Haggard and we were all kind of offshoots you know guys like Darryl Singletary too you know we were all kind of offshoots of kind of more of a like a Lefty Frizzell top of vocal style and I've been listening to a lot of lefty lately and you can definitely tell that we are all ripping him off then we have for years and years but the good ones borrow the great ones still and roll Haggard is in my opinion is the greatest it's ever been so I stole a lot from him the Keith Whitley is right up there so and the intro link to this song sounds an awful lot like a troll Haggar song too [Music] three have one thing to say about that damn show is that all the people in that show have one thing in common from Joe - Jeff - doc - Carol they all exhibit the same qualities their animals do they're huge predators and it doesn't matter like in right now Carol's proven to be the head mama cat is battered and bigger than everybody else so I don't know doc may have something to say about that with his harem but that's just a weird so I'm not you to say it's out of the realm of possibilities Carol killed her husband I would like to think that she didn't but do I think that she did I don't know I really don't know one more little sing another song Michael Rice wants to know what are the odds of you and pepper Keenan doing a song together funny you should ask Michael pepper not talked about getting together at the end of last year maybe sometime the beginning of this year or in the springtime but Corrosion of Conformity schedule our schedule and then this hit and we haven't been able to get together house I was gonna take a trip out to his beach house in Mississippi but they got postponed so the chances excuse me the chances of that are good one of these days I'll shout out a text practicing necessarily but I've been ripping out a bunch of old like just covers and stuff you know trying to use use this time to you know be creative and have some good ideas come out of it we're working on a the mastering of a live at Red Rocks right now super excited about that we've kinda had two podcast hang on hold but we got like 12 or 13 of those done still looking for sponsors for that Miller Lite and we're gonna keep throwing ideas out there we're gonna you know if things let up enough I imagine I'm gonna try to do some like at home studio recording of just some acoustic stuff and see how that turns out so we're gonna try to keep you guys busy try to keep you entertained like I said we're writing songs I mean so that the juices are flowing and you know trying to try to use the time you know we're Road dogs we're used to being on the road all the time and this is really strange for us and you know you get to feeling cooped up there's only so much you can ride a day or so much you can play the guitar day but I have been I've been singing a lot but I've been seeing a bunch of old stuff now mild stuff old cover stuff it's stuff I enjoy playing I'll take a question Garrett Brown asks this may be one of my favorite questions today what's the largest bass you've caught everybody knows I'm a big bass fisherman I'm from Texas I'm from part of Texas were noted to have really really awesome bass fishing but the biggest bass I've ever caught was in Mexico we flew in to Mazatlan me my dad my buddy Casey my buddy Casey actually has the state record for me mouth bass but me and Casey and dad and another group of friends Danny golden he guides out on ray Roberts we went down to Mexico and fished El Salto for three days and I caught him nine point eight so I almost got my double-digit bass and that's why bass fisherman fishes for that ten pound bass but uh almost got it when these days up but my dad just sent me a picture of it not too long ago so one of these days I may climb a post that but nine eight is my biggest bass and that was El Salto Mexico now caught it on a watermelon watermelon watermelon seed Carolina egg I'm pretty sure this is Chandler Willis I have chicken scratch for handwriting wanted to hear David oh there's tied into there's a song about there's something about David in here too that I got from an ER nurse oh well I can't Oh Robbie actually David is a really emotional song as an ER nurse practitioner I have the same fear of my loved ones why did you choose to do it up-tempo versus slower or acoustic that's probably more questions about David than I do anything else because the music sounds really upbeat and happy and fun and the songs hands-down one of the saddest things I've ever written and I don't write much in third person I'll tell you about David the other day um it just happened that way I don't know why and it ended up being a really weird kind of cool mixture of a really sad song with really upbeat and I have just a bunch of requests except so I have no concept of time right now I don't I don't know how long I've been doing this I do now could I just looked at my watch um Megan Quimby nova and and you guys know what I'm gonna do but it's always fun because I go I don't Thunder heavy rain and you guys go it's one of the coolest things ever [Laughter] Wow rain thinline swings away I mean it's a long strange trip it's all insane you ain't never going be the same laughter Lebanon strap sometimes the only light move is tucked away you had a Pistons papa as a reason it's hard to sleep man this again and I'll I'm gonna play a lot more songs tonight as well but I'm not gonna obviously I can't hit all of them and we're gonna take notes of songs that you guys have requested that maybe I can go back and woodshed I haven't done them in a while um Shannon crisp asks will you ever write an autobiography funny you should ask I'm actually you know we're an hour in I'm gonna go ahead and do this I started writing something called Cody's roadies years ago in oh seven so I've been working on this for 13 years I have stacks and stacks and stacks of books filled up with writings some happy some sad some glad some mad you know just whatever you know funny stories from the road stories from the road hopefully one day I can take all of those put them together and make one really cool one because there's a lot of drunken dribble in it just a bunch of that I probably I want people to read but but yes I am and as a matter of fact I'll do a reading for you real quick this was something I wanted to do in a jinx here but I figured tonight was cool we're just gonna do something a little different [Music] so I've got a ton of these it's a moleskin and you can see I just write a whole book how much so this will probably be an entry that goes into the book one day and I will edit some of it because the book will not be but another kids watching this is what happened to us on I think it was the 12th of March this entry was from March 14th of this year at 10:55 p.m. a date of all time of all today's a Saturday Rebecca the kids and I just got and after going down to my niece Charlie's birthday party in Mount Pleasant we drove down yesterday afternoon for a pool party and then we went to have an after-dinner meal at a Mexican food restaurant next door to the hotel where the party was just with the immediate family it was nice typical family things going on I wasn't supposed to even be there but enter coronavirus orko Vadim or whatever people are going to be calling it now we have a pandemic the band was off for two weeks before the tour and we flew out on Wednesday for Albany New York through Chicago I got a phone call from a manager Tuesday and we talked about what might or might not happen I wish we would have left a day after after 12 hours of traveling that day we landed in Albany my phone went off in the airport upon landing and discovered that during our day of travel the world went from this is pretty bad - oh what do we do well I can tell you this I can tell you that my manager and my tour manager we're working on figuring out how and what the heck to do with a band and crew our buses were already staged in front of the theater we were to play and we were instructed by management upon arrival to go to the buses sleep and then the buses were going to leave in the early morning to drive us to Cleveland for the nearest first available direct flight home I slept really hard that night because much of the band and crew went to a pub across the street from the theater meter stumbling distance back to the buses we got drunk and there was other things it rhymes with neat I was super bummed and I remember going back to the couch on the bus and then back to bed I'm editing right now you can have to buy the book want a - are health concerns it's expensive not to go to work I woke up the next day almost to cleveland airport for an early evening flight back to DFW got on the plane and finished a book about the time we landed didn't hang around to tell the band goodbye just got in the uber and was back in Denton by 10 o'clock to meet Rebecca for a beer crazy so here we are on a Saturday night the kids are asleep as my wife and I are up thinking about what the hell I'm going to do with my time until we go back to work I've got a mother effer of a lot to do and there is plenty I'd be lying if I said I wasn't mildly concerned about exposure to the virus really don't know how bad it is or isn't they say it's kind of like the flu at this point but with no shot beforehand I don't know I never get a flu shot anyway SARS bird flu swine flu Ebola anthrax what am I missing from the past 20 years so that was March the 14th so that was five weeks ago guess some that they'd like some little jinx here reading scuzz what I want to do is get some of the older ones and try to keep them kind of light-hearted and funny cuz this I'll look back on some of them like oh I wouldn't remember that but it's real funny stuff alright sterno song also I can't see if you guys are writing to me because my phones I can't see myself in the phone I'm just singing to her as I said that camera is better if you're writing stuff I can't read it I'm sorry [Music] but there are people taking notes I imagine [Music] [Music] you bidding on wings & Wheels wrote for dad a long time ago wrote about me and Dad going fishing I was a kid but since then I've been trying to write a song and TJ remembered a conversation that we had had about my dad one night my mom and dad have that TJ a number of times and met TJ's parents and wonderful people you remember this conversation that we had and TJ came over to write with me one not one well he spent the night him and Tiffany did one not he said I remember this conversation we had about your dad and we got this one out of it [Music] after me don't overdo this a little bit at beat it by 21 Styria now the best beard and hair out of me personally whitey award and that's from Mitchell hazlit Mitchell hazlit who has the best hair me best beard in hair combo um I'll have to get on the way uh why he's if it's hard if I hadn't shaved my beard because Ward's beards longer than mine now - why do you guys both beat I wish I wouldn't have shaved my beard last year but I don't have a full head of hair anymore like I've done that I do the shave up thing now so it's not all along anymore and quite frankly it's it's getting quite thin so yeah however um - whitey I'll give me in war - top time because war does a giant bald spot back there it's way bigger than mine so I'm gonna take away a lot of hair points for that let's do a song there's another piece I wrote with my good friend Larry Hooper we at the end of the damage to consummation there's good good good and bad but a lot of us started in in metal bands rock bands punk bands stuff like that and I'm no different and Tom McIlvain is no different and Tom actually he's about to have his first book published called the lady in red and I got to write the the back cover thing and there's some good stories in there some sad stories were some good stories there's funny stories I'm in it so when Tom puts the book out you should get it just based on the fact that I'm in it and you know love you Tom but it was a talk came up with this idea I mean he he had most of the song written but it was kind of he said you know did you get to the point where you sitting on a rock and roll anymore then at that point my life I was at that point you know it was kind of a you know I just started my family and started the country music thing and this is what we came up with battle water beasts not blue Yeti [Music] and laughs tried to kill me
