the world that he gave us his only son so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life god's love sustains he gave us the power of the holy spirit when we were baptized through the holy spirit we become connected to god god's love is not just appealing it is an act constantly pursuing us so for uh today stop talk number two who is jesus christ in this talk we are going to reflect on who is jesus christ in our lives is he our savior forgive our forgiver of our sins or our brain here's another verse for today's talk taken from the gospel of mark jesus asked his disciples who the people say i am let's watch this video [Music] who do you say i am son of god i am human and divine i am alpha and omega i am powerful i am prayerful i am gentle i am joyful i am patient i am generous i am kind i am humble i am obedient i am courageous i am faithful i am healer i am merciful i am forgiving i am full of love i am i am who i am okay and to deliver this talk may i introduce to you our chosen speaker the joint couples for christ back in 2001 in new zealand they are blessed with three children he is currently the pastoral formation officer coordinator for wa let's welcome mr jay cabrera good afternoon everyone okay uh she's high am i in control now yes bro that's the new one afternoon all right um good afternoon everyone i'm jay cabrera as brother ron said we joined um we joined the couples for christ back in new zealand in 2001 so and then we moved to perth as soon as we moved to paris after 10 years in new zealand we look for uh couples for christ so um okay all right okay you may be wondering um it's usually a it's a um it's a culture in couples for christ to introduce our spouse but unfortunately my uh my wife uh passed away uh three years ago uh back in 1970 uh in 2017. so uh so i won't be able to introduce her to you so you might be wondering why i am here what am i doing with couples for christ um that question will be answered in talk number seven and uh if you also saw the um invitations that were handed out in church you would also see there i believe i saw that everyone has a place in couples for christ so so um though if you have any questions that will be answered in talk seven but you can also um uh message me later if you want all right okay now let's um we'll start our talk today with an activity okay this this activity is about two truths and one line and uh we will start with our facilitators so to get to know your facilitators better while in the christian life program okay all right may i call on brother allen okay the two truths and one lie for you the first one is i don't know how to swim and the second one is i work as a cpa for five years and the third one is you've been to 25 countries uh 35 countries really are that that's why i picked that compilation and probably you guys can and tell what is the two truths and one line okay so um would any one of the participants want to especially in the group of our brother alan would anyone want to send us a message of when which one is a lie so don't know how to swim but he is a seafarer okay um maybe he uses sister march as his um lifesaver you know in tagalog and he has been he has been to 25 countries all right can anyone from bars allen's um group guess which one is a lie i think brother allen's group is i don't have the list no one okay i'll answer the question he hasn't been to 25 countries is that correct you have been to 25 countries that is the lie that's that's still true that's the truth number two is uh she is a pure blooded filipina parang espanol she looks like she says spanish blood okay number three is she is a farmer's daughter so she is a dona of an acienda all right can anyone violi lunatic okay from faye he is a lunatic correct because um we have heard uh we have um read in the bible that uh or even we have heard in mass that he has raised people from the dead he raised say you saw sister margaret he said i have got to know her. so what do you do we get involved if we want to get involved with someone we need to know where they're from we need to know a lot of things we need to do to know the culture we need to know [Music] um if they're married we need to know um if they're coming from a good family we need to know um if they're rich no no we don't have to all right right but the thing is we have to see and understand their background same with jesus christ you think if um you probably think that you know a lot or you know a lot about jesus christ but have you ever thought do you really really know him okay so there are two questions with the um with our anchor verse for today which uh brother ron read earlier the anchor verse was or the uh points of the um question there was who do people say that i am who do people say that i am and the other one is but who do you say that i am okay the first question was the people the second question was you personally do you know jesus christ let's get to know him better okay um i'm not really sure why it doesn't want to move okay hold on um i'm actually um give me a check okay then i'll ask you again sure why it's happening again anyway uh let's go on so um when we get want to get to know someone we go out we go all out right we go all out and try to know that person so what we're going to do now is let's get to know jesus more okay let's go to um jesus of history okay jesus as actually man as we said earlier it's not half man he is fully man and he's fully god why do we say that he's fully man like you and me he was born he was born from our mother virgin uh for our mother virgin mother mary he was he he was born in a manger in bethlehem so like uh when when when we um fill out a form like uh when we're applying for something especially in the philippines um we have this birth certificate right when you fill out the form they ask for what your name so it's jesus and where were you born so born in bethlehem who are your parents so we have mary and we have joseph and where are they from and we say nazareth it's the same thing jesus had the same thing as us he was a man he was born like us like i was born in manila my father's pacifico my mother is rosalina so it's pretty much the same thing with the history but what is different from jesus and you jesus was pre-announced his coming was foretold 700 years before he even came or he was born he was already pre-announced in the book of micah and in isaiah book of isaiah and not only that he had a very big effect he had a very big effect on history why it was split into two times one is before christ and the other is after death that's how jesus um at times another one is all these were in the uh the prophecies were all in the old testament okay as i said he struck history with such an impact that he spit it into bc and a d not only that the book about him which is the bible has sold more copies than any other book worldwide we now have christians are now a something like 2 billion across the world 2 billion christians that is history okay he grew up as a young carpenter in nazareth so why was it um um okay i just received a message there nope that's all right um that's right uh brother dhoni [Music] okay now where are my slides right okay but he was also an interim uh preacher he turned around preacher he was he moved from place to place but he was never more than 150 kilometers from his home in nazareth so he's just around the area but think of it there were no cars before so it was just walking from one place to another and um we all know it's not easy to walk like um even here we have cars right even if we just go if the mall is just about five minutes or ten minutes uh walk from us we still use the car don't we well back in the days they they had to walk around so he was only never more than 150 kilometers from his home he did not have a school like socrates plato and aristotle but where did he get all his wisdom he got all his wisdom from above from god he never went to school his knowledge his wisdom which is even more than all the the scribes from his time was because of the experience of god and it was given unto him he did not have an army like alexander the great but he was a magnetic leader why when he went when he saw simon he just said come follow me and every uh every disciple and they were fishermen uneducated fishermen the disciples were uneducated fishermen but look what they have done how many billions couple of billions of christians are now around the world but it started from the 11 disciples now let's talk about christ of faith jesus forgave sins from the gospel of mark chapter 2 5-7 gospel of mark chapter 2. right when jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic child your sins are forgiven now some of the scribes were sitting there asking themselves why does this man speak that way he is blaspheming who god who but god alone can forgive sins so jesus forgave sins so he made that paralytic he forgave the sins of the paralysis and he made him able to walk again jesus claimed to possess all power in heaven and on earth from the gospel of matthew chapter 28 verses 18 to 19 thus then jesus approached and said to them all power in heaven and on earth has been given unto me go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit he claimed to possess all power in heaven and on earth jesus claimed straightforwardly to be god from the gospel of john chapter 8 56 56-58 oh sorry gospel okay abraham your father rejoiced to see me to see my day he saw it and was glad so the jews said to him you are not yet 50 years old and you have seen abraham so he was saying he already saw who abraham was so it's either be true or false he's in which case he would be a liar if he did not know that so the question is is jesus a liar a lunatic or our lord let's go further jesus is the son of god he is lord it's already said in the gospel of matthew chapter 28 18-19 all power in heaven and on earth has been given to me go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit knowing jesus in becoming christians what are the implications of being a christian being a christian is having a personal relationship with the lord our lord and our savior how do we do this how do we become a christian being a christian is being a disciple and being a disciple means we need to evangelize people we need to live in faith we need to live in hope and we need to live in charity so what do we mean by faith hope and charity there are some misconceptions about christianity one is that is that um we are we have so many do's and don'ts it is just a mere religious system we have a set of doctrines like uh the apostles creed we say i believe in god the father almighty i believe in jesus christ our lord and it's just and when we have the um we have uh we have the eucharist the holy eucharist when we go to mass we say the novena etc and we do a lot for god but is that enough to be a christian no it's not that it's only half we need to live it to be called a christian next one is christianity is a mere moral system a set of do's and don'ts like um the the 14 the the ten commandments i'm sorry the ten commandments what are the ten commandments honor thy father and thy mother that is ado what is the dot thou shalt not kill that's a don't so what they're saying is christianity is just but a set of rules regarding what is right and wrong it is not christianity is an expression of our relationship with god we have the ten commandments because we love god we follow the ten commandments because we love god and they saying christianity is a social humanitarian system we only give we we give a lot we give tights we give um we we help the poor but it is not just humanitarianism they say we never get angry we if we get angry who how can he become angry he's not a christian he's not being a christian but everybody gets angry even christ got angry but it has to be righteous anger righteous anger christianity is an escape from the realities of life according to the communists it's a an escape an opium of the poor and the oppressed and they have equated christianity with confident life and escape from the ordinance of a secular life this is a wrong notion because christianity does not teach us to escape it teaches us to face the problem but trust in god because we know that if it is his plan then it will be done okay jesus entire life is centered on redemption we honor jesus because he died on the cross for us we call him we call him our lord and our savior our cross is jesus christ our pain is jesus pain but when we say cross a lot um you know sometimes you see in and streets like uh ped ped and then a cross and ing so it means cross pedestrian crossing you see um during christmas you will see people saying x and then mass but x doesn't mean chris christ this means a cross so he says what is that christmas so when i see this um people using x-mas as a way of saying christmas i get annoyed because this is a cross this is a different cross this doesn't mean anything to us christians but this is this the cross going up is our relationship with god our father this cross the horizon the vertical one is our relationship with our neighbors what is the first commandment love god and the second one is love our neighbors so love god and love our neighbors it is not this way it is not the game say i don't know what that is okay in the cross jesus reveals his true identity so we will know jesus through the cross and only by the cross we will truly know him when we truly know jesus when we take him as our lord and our god when we develop our personal relationship with him then then only then we become truly christian so how do we do this jesus is a true god and we know we have been taught ever since our childhood that he suffered for our sins why are we here why are you here why did you are you attending the christian life program because you wanted to know more about god you wanted to know more about jesus christ you wanted to know or maybe you saw a uh brother or you know a brother or a sister that is also already a member of the couples for christ you know when i joined the couples practice in new zealand um we were invited um once i mean uh my wife said well you'll have to ask jay or myself me if he wants to go because without him we won't be able to go so they asked me and i said yes of course um but when we were in the philippines we were actually invited so many times and we all said no and uh well when we got to new zealand i don't know why but my um my reason for joining was a totally uh different reason excuse me my reason for joining was when i saw all these um couples for christ members i saw they had fancy cars oh they must be very well blessed by god so he said maybe if i joined couples for christ i would have the same blessings i would have a nice house i would have nice cars but it was the wrong reason for joining it wasn't because of learning about god or learning about jesus or changing my heart it was all for the wrong reason that i joined but you know what they were before there were about 13 sessions for the christian life program and we finished that all 13 sessions so it was complete attendance so we had uh we we we were given a an award but i never realized that we would finish that because my first thought was i'll only uh we will only attend the um the introduction and then that's it but here we are 20 years later i am still a member excuse me saint john paul said it is jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness he is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you he is the beauty to which you are so attracted it is he who provoked you with that first thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise it is he who urges you to shed the masks of a false life it is he who reads in your heart your most genuine genuine choices the choices that others try to stifle so what does it mean to be a christian christian means to have a deep personal relationship with jesus a christian is a person of faith hope and love i will read you something about a christian as a person of faith hope and love a true christian is one who freely and boldly expresses his faith to other people so that they may also be brought further into the faith so when you are as christians we are expected to evangelize other people a christian is a person of hope a true christian is one who lives full of hope confident that the will of god will happen and his plan will be consummated we all know that god has a plan for us for each and every one of us we only need to trust and have faith in him a christian is a person of love love for one another is what distinguishes the disciples of jesus and we are the modern disciples each and every one of us a christian is a person of faith hope and love so what does it mean to be a christian let us deepen our relationship with god let us deepen our relationship with jesus in short let us let god take over our life um like the um like the uh uh the song jesus take the will let him drive us have faith have hope and have love i leave you with a song but before that as i conclude this talk uh let us reflect on jesus christ our lord and our savior reflect on the pain and suffering he endured a sacrifice like no other let us have the enthusiasm of a child learning about jesus the anointed one to have an intimate relationship with him let us reflect on how we can be better christians full of faith full of love and let us seek repentance for our sins let us heighten our faith and our trust in god and in jesus christ our savior with the help of the holy spirit let us open our hearts and let us look forward to his blessings and his guidance every single minute of our lives may god be praised we will have a sharer thank you rojay can you uh yes yeah keep on so for our share this afternoon that's welcome sister rocky marcelo good afternoon brothers and sisters i'm raquel marcelo and to many of you too many to the community i'm cis rocky and i like it if they call me sisraki because i would like to believe that i am a strong woman like really strong zaraka today i'm asked to do a sharing regarding the topic with jesus christ many of you will agree that jesus christ is known with with many names most popular ones are our father our redeemer king of kings our lord our savior but for myself like to myself jesus is revealed in john 14 6 14 6 someone asked him and jesus reply was i am the way the truth and the life no one comes to the father except through me it is with strong conviction that i truly believe jesus christ is the way towards being righteous and holy i say hundred percent yes to jesus christ following the way never easy there are times it's flattened but most of the time rough very rough but my faith strengthens me my fears overcomed for i know jesus christ will always be there by my side never to abandon me he once said be still and know that i am your god i try my best not to have insufficient faith i choose to follow him whatever it takes at times when i'm weak and weary i'll surrender everything to him for i know and have proven many times he'll be there to lift me up carry me and take charge brothers and sisters just recently my faith was tested april 2 my father who is back in the philippines my family is back in the philippines so my father complained of shortness of bad difficulty in breathing so my sisters was looking after them after my parents told my father that maybe just um like a change of feathers just a normal cuff and uh it is uh like in line of him being uh being having this uh copd chronic obstructive pulmonary disease but as days pass the difficulty in breathing aggravated and then my father asked my sisters to bring him to the doctor for for consultation and to cut the story short brothers and sisters my father was tested positive of kovid he is infected he was infected by kovid we were in denial we cannot accept it how this can be no it's not true they made mistake in testing but there's no such thing as mistaking testing and i became restless suddenly i realized that it's true why is this happening and i looked up and said not my family not my father not at this time lord not at this time i don't know what to do and i realized i needed prayers i needed prayers i asked the community couples for cars to pray for my family to spare them we persevered in prayer every day we pray the rosary with my family asking for guidance asking for wisdom what to do next what will happen give us guidance strengthen us strengthen our faith we keep on holding to our faith they said day one to nine is the critical days day four i saw my father through vigil he was telling me it's okay but i know it's not i know it's not he's not telling us we persevered in prayer i surrendered everything to him i told him lord it's on up to you it's all up to you brothers and sisters today is their day 14 day 14 and on monday they will be swapped again my family would be swap again and we claim victory we claim victory over this battle in jesus name okay thank you saki project for our reflection well um brothers and sisters um i've already said it earlier but i would like the uh participants and also my brothers and sisters in couples for christ to to focus on jesus christ today and ask yourself do i really know jesus christ ask yourself who is jesus christ to you and reflect on the pain and suffering he endured the sacrifice like no other to die for our sins let us have the enthusiasm of a child wanting to learn about jesus to have an intimate personal relationship with him if you haven't done that yet start now start today start right this minute reflect on how we can be better christians by showing our love loving him back and evangelizing not only your friends but let's
