Really cool to watch that; kept thinking to just buy a new cleaver though.

a rusty old cleaver a little rust remover should help me for now the coarse dirt comes off very well Oh! A hidden hole! The old wooden handle does not exist anymore, these pins are left and will be removed I want to remove the rust with electrolysis, for this I grind off the rust, so that the current can flow better. So that the current only flows through the old cleaver, I insulated the terminal with a plastic screw The cleaver comes to "-" The steel scrap comes to "+" Water sodium hydrogen carbonate I mix the water so that the salt dissolves, in salt water the current conducts better. Turtle: "I'm not going to swim this time!" 16 hours later Yummie, Delicious! With the wire brush I remove the remaining rust from the cleaver. Looks very good already. I want to try to do the handle differently this time, so I have to cut some off here No, not finished by any means... I remove all the pitting from the sides of the old cleaver on the belt grinder. Looks good already, doesn't it? But this way it is much better I continue to grind manually... ... but well, I prefer to use a machine, it's much faster With the orbital sander I have sanded up to a grit of 400, with the hand I now continue up to a grit of 1000. Even with the grit of 1000 it still looks so "scratched", but for now the surface is okay for me With this tool I grind the cutting edge to exactly 30°. Water Hey turtle... Bye turtle... Finally I sharpen the cleaver on the grindstone I drill the holes to 8mm, and the hole for hanging I also make round again Ebony With the chisel I cut a recess in the wood where later the handle will be placed I cut two bolts from this 8mm round iron, these hold the cleaver in the wooden handle later. Before I glue the handles together, I make the rough contour with the file. I wash the cleaver with isopropanol Iron (III) Chloride FeCl3 Five minutes later Water With the steel wool I remove the oxide layer, so that in the next pass the iron-3-chloride can work properly. After the first pass already a very good result... I repeat this four times. Now we add a little instant coffee to the water. One day later the result is awesome cooking oil I add some dust from the ebony wood, so the glue takes the color from of the wood. With isopropanol and a cotton swab I remove the remaining glue. Now I sand the wooden handle of the cleaver with sandpaper. Wood oil Finished!
