[Music] hey guys chris again from classic vwbugs.com and i got another episode of show us your dub my good friends leela and greg striske are out of what part of pennsylvania you guys from again allendale easton yes all right river uh right near new jersey okay excellent these guys i've known these guys for a few years now they've come to my open houses they've come to my fall foliage cruise that we have in october and they're just an awesome couple and they're dubbed nuts they have several vw's well several you got four right yeah we do we have two beetles and two buses awesome well i hope we can get to them and i definitely want to see the beatles for sure and uh yeah guys if if anybody wants to show me their dub please be sure to hit me up in the comments section below or pop me an email and uh please be sure to give me a description of your beetle a little bit of history uh so then we can put you on the show but please uh bear in mind i'm getting inundated with submissions with beatles and you know i'm trying to select the best of course so but uh greg also if i can say if anybody has a chance to get to one of your events whether it's the fall cruise or your show the treffin and spectacular events and not only do you meet uh you and the nice people involved but the settings are just amazing too it's a great place to take your vehicle very cool i appreciate that craig thank you yeah guys if any just keep an eye up on my website on my facebook pages and you'll see when i post this stuff so uh yeah it's always a good time it's always good camaraderie so yeah but uh yeah greg and leela take it away show us what you got and uh i can't wait to see it okay well um let me show you leela's beetle here this is leela's beetle um i have always been a bus person and um you know grew up with buses my my uh first vehicle was a bus in high school so not you know being a little bit older now i wanted to get back into the bus thing so we started off with uh a bus that i got from california and we had so much fun in the classic air-cooled scene that leela said you know what i want to find myself a beatle and she did a little bit of a research on it she saw which years she liked which one she didn't and of course 67 came up oh yeah and um we actually saw your video of your 67 which was also the green i'm not sure if it was the java green yeah a little bit lighter i went a little darker with it but it was yeah basically a facsimile thereof yeah well it was beautiful and um so leela happened to find on craigslist she found uh um a 67 beetle in south jersey and it met all the criteria plus a sandwich which we weren't really thinking about but uh leland liked the sun roofs and so i think she found it on uh like thursday night was it and uh friday morning we pastored the owner of it to let us come see it we actually drove down to where he lived and waited for him to get out of work to show it to us okay and uh just a spectacular car it was uh painted a different color a little bit darker green uh but mechanically it was spectacular it drives like a brand new beetle he's a subaru mechanic for corporate uh subaru down in south jersey they did the transaxle the suspension is in beautiful shape everything underneath the car the pans he took care of so structurally everything was great on it the only uh issue was the paint needed to be updated it was a darker green than original so uh we wanted to put it back to original so really um everything on the car is uh it's like a brand new beetle it drives down the road like a brand new beetle very happy with that the um inside of the car is actually the original pigs we did not have the inside of the card also the dash and the doors that's you can see little scratches in the dash it adds i think to the character the car sure that's okay uh-huh yeah oh those door panels look familiar you know we saw the video of your 67. leela really liked the interior you put in there so we actually called so fine and carol um hooked us up with your interior excellent he took that from you very good it looks awesome yeah and then you see leela's got all the period correct i like the maps in the door that's from you know the early 70s the camera on the on the shelf there with the slash everything seems is period correct and uh he really enjoys it we've got the uh lobster claw seat belts still in it and this is this is numbers matching right greg numbers matching right the engine um it appears to be original it was in the factory within a month of when the car was produced so it's it's probably the original engine nice uh as far as we can tell very good duty single port still he did the birth certificate on it and um you know the pop-out windows were standard on it uh white wall tires were standard we put the thin white walls on there which appeared to be what came from the factory yep okay and then the engine was rebuilt at one point or is this it still has original mileage it's uh it's been rebuilt okay the top end at least let's put it that way the top end has been rebuilt but it's 1300 uh single port oh nice it looks great it looks excellent did you guys just detail that or you just pulled it out of the garage and wiped it down it looks clean this is the way it stays it's not you know it's not the shiniest it's uh everything and that's all all we want you know we drive the car leela drives it whenever she goes to the supermarket with it so it's not going to be a showroom uh conditioned vehicle we just keep everything clean um you can see the alternator was installed at some point along the way yep um and from what i understand maybe you can correct me but somebody told us that that is the model of alternator that would have been put on there had you taken this card to the dealer in the 70s for example and said the generator is bad replace replace it they would have put that one on there it's a motorola oh no kidding okay yeah that's that that's news to me that's excellent news um so technically period right right i mean it works yeah yeah so of course fuel pump because of that fuel pump right right okay wow that's very cool it looks it still looks great you still and you got those swooped uh bumper the towel bars they swooped down correctly that's the one year 67. yeah one of your videos um you did say that you uh to you know if you change the blades make sure you take keep the uh the swoop towel bars and so we had those re-chrome nice uh but the boot is new the blade on the front and back is new but the towel bars are re-chromed okay and you got your backup lights there which is also all good i mean everything looks so nice i mean it's uh 67 like many people know is a hot year and it's a great year to own uh because as they well know it's a one year and one year parts and it's got the last of the old look but yet you got updated features so it's uh very nice well you know like a 65 at some point which i think you saw the ruby red that we had yeah and it's it's also a beautiful car but the the driving experience between 65 and 67 is just crazy it's the 67 almost feels like a sports car it handles better it accelerates better yeah oh yeah oh yeah the 65 fuel is still like an old bead yes yes especially with the 1200 a little 40 horse engine in it yeah but she looks great oh my gosh i love it i love it uh i love seeing that when you bring it to our shows and you come to our gatherings it's always a pleasure uh to see this car and how clean it is and it's amazing the dash is all original paint and all you know it's it's really nice there's a little scratch in the in the glove compartment and things but it all adds to it so you know and like i said we drive it's not this doesn't get parked and um and brought out for shows we drive them all our cars it's part of the experience oh for sure i totally agree with you actually [Music] you've got lolita's got her suitcase in there nice so if you can see the interior of the trunk it's all in very good shape i replaced the liner okay underneath there the paint is still in excellent condition nice tire we found one of the um washer tubes yeah it looks so period everything looks it fits the part greg you know well that's uh that's what we like we like stock i know some people don't uh necessarily like to keep things stocked but uh it just brings back so many memories of when you know if we were younger and our parents had these cars and sure went on grips in them you know i my when uh we drove my mom's 60 rag top uh there was uh six of us so my parents were in front and that was my place but there you go yeah and today you'd be arrested for that that's right and let's uh if we can let's take a look at the oval you got next to it okay yes so this is a 57 oval um we didn't anticipate getting this car this um a friend of our bill you met bill in june yep bill gave me a call one day and said uh you might want to go take a look at this car i took a look at it and it's not for me but uh so we did it's right here in our town wow it was purchased here in eastern pa at the wilson auto imports used to be the volkswagen dealer now they have a new one okay but it's been its whole life here nice and uh yeah it's um never left more than four miles from where we are right now oh that's amazing and you said 56 or seven 57 57 okay so the last of the oval last of the bullet turn signals right that's right and an original original rack top yeah original rack top nice certificate to confirm all that so because you know you never knew these days but from what i saw of the tracks here everything looks original but uh the birth certificate confirms it nice um it was repainted it was a polar silver and i don't know what color green this is because it's so in such bad shape uh so faded but uh uh if we do restore it then um we will put it back to polar silver we don't know what we're gonna do with this with this beetle so door panels look original seat's been recovered seat's been recovered on the front the back seat has its original cover you can see it's in pens are solid and original pants have not been done on it um it's as if the previous owners i think there are two owners and but both of them really didn't drive the car much it looks like they didn't clean the knobs or anything often because you can see the finger grease [Laughter] and over on the door panel for example you can see the grease on it so it's gonna this is the way we bought it we haven't done anything to it yet okay so this is a condition you saw there's some paint on the back seat so it looks like they really use this car to to do work or something uh wow and that's original headline or that's been changed uh original headliner oh my gosh wow yeah that's crazy very good find that's a great find guys i mean we could pass it up and like i said we didn't we never thought that we would uh be purchasing one but it came up and um we just had to do it there's no way we could pass it up [Music] this engine that um you told us this engine looks like it's a 55 yeah and we do have the um bill of sale or the receipt for the rebuilt engine that was installed in 63 so the engine must have gone bad in 63 and for 380 something dollars they installed a rebuilt volkswagen engine and i guess it was from a 55 wow but this was all done at the dealership so this is a volkswagen rebuilt engine gotcha okay the uh voltage the old round one yeah that's the correct coil and uh there too right yeah it looks like it i mean all 55 and earlier you know for sure the distributor is correct yep um definitely i mean the regulator is 55 and down um the coil looks all right too yep the carb even uh the air cleaner looks correct for your year uh 55 would have probably had a strap over on the air cleaner um but yeah uh that's uh it's period it's right you know you're in the realm so that's that's really cool i had to put a new carb on there because the shaft the throttle shafts were leaking fuel and and then of course sucking air so i did that and uh that's the only thing we've done so far just to get it running well it runs actually very well cool where'd you get the car from volkswitz yes right oh very good yeah i'm ready to go otherwise uh there's a guy that we both know locally that i would have liked to use but uh they had them ready to go and i wanted to have this thing mobile gotcha very sweet that looks awesome i mean it have you decided if you're going to restore it or not um no we haven't yet and it's got kind of depends on what we do with the but we just got these 79 west valley a tamper because we wanted to give camping a shot can we take a look at that you want to run over there and then show us yeah yeah yeah those are the snowflakes um yeah really on this car we may just uh i'll fix it up mechanically and drive it for now yeah that's fine absolutely guys you know you know the club filthy buggers yes they uh last weekend and they said don't do anything to it just just get it drivable and drive it so there you go up on that offer okay but uh over here we've got the 79 westy and this is what we were looking to buy so that we can go camping and before the oval came up so we're in the process of doing the interior is great with interiors with with all of our cars it's a team project so she does the interiors and i do the mechanical stuff wow finish the cabinets in here uh everything's here for you know the water the sink this does not have the stove in it but uh i love the seats yep uh we're gonna redo the uh cushions clean clean the cushions back here redo the front seats we have the headliner to put in here yet and some of the trim pieces but it's all here and then it runs very well actually so very cool yeah we'll see how this goes and if we don't think camping is for us um yeah maybe we'll stop there you go okay okay well these are you know becoming the next ones in line to get i mean the 67 and earlier you know buses are just uh almost becoming like hard to reach now because of prices and such and but you know these are coming up now and i i couldn't believe what we saw at barrett-jackson last weekend it was just unbelievable uh the pricing prices it's crazy yeah and there's apparently there's a brazilian company out there correct me if i'm wrong uh that has that sells a kit where you can convert these later buses into an earlier looking bus yeah they've got they've got all kinds of stuff now which uh you know stuff that when i grew up with the um i had a 70 bus and then at 76 you were just limited but the thing is that they weren't rare then now that they're becoming more and more rare they're starting to do stuff with the sheet metal and things like that that they wouldn't do before because they got such a market for it right but i like the later bays just because i we like i said we drive them and cruise at 70 miles an hour on the highway to keep up with traffic i had a a 71 before that the blue one for example that's a nine passenger um you know it's not the camper it's got the ninth passenger seating but um with the 71 the trucks were passing us at like 10 miles per hour more than we could go uh-huh it's just not you know it's a terrifying experience sometimes wow that's super clean that's really nice yeah this one i got from the west coast did the interior that's uh um jay lewis alvarez he does the interior and like in high school we've always had the middle seats out this has i have the middle bench seat here but i keep the bean bags in there just for lounging and of course it's got it's got a great stereo and it's that you can listen to the grateful dead loudoun there you go playing the part man yeah the the main part is that we can actually cruise at highway speeds with the later base right and uh since i drive them all the time it's important to me it's not as collectible but the the fun factor is still there gotcha oh that's so cool well you got a very cool collection there i mean you should definitely be proud i mean uh there's these two they look like great little toys and you got a great little family here of v dubs and uh i just i love it i love what you got going and uh it's always here great hearing from you the new news you know that comes your way what you find and such so very very cool man you know since we've started going to your events it's really made it um you know more enjoyable still because uh you know your cars are spectacular and um uh just seeing the way they should be really motivates us to make our cars more like you know what you're doing there so that's cool i appreciate that man that's great and those videos you put out helped us tremendously so uh thank you very much for that oh you're very welcome i you know it's you guys are awesome i love meeting you guys i love hanging with you guys and you always just bring a smile to my face every time we talk or even get together you know so it's uh it's always good same here yep yep well listen greg i don't want to keep any further you've had you've been awesome i love your pride i love your cars your project you got going there that you are driving and uh your buses are great too and um please keep in touch with us and uh i'd love to see what else is on your vw journey you know uh okay it's always good but um oh
