[Music] here we are almost straight out of Provence this was an existing house that had a French Provincial makeover even the pine tree in the courtyard was planted to bring the smell of Provence as you walk in shutters and lime washed walls bring its French Provincial signature to the facade the weathered park bench and the 18th century fountain are from the South of France in the Moroccan style tile panels ensures the Mediterranean feel here the garden vegetation is now grown around the house in such a way that it blends with the surrounds [Music] perched over Sydney Harbour a beautiful province a villa that has been built and decorated by two lovers of the South of France and lovers of the art everything in here speaks of total attention to detail and bringing the true spirit of Provence to Sydney the entrance styles are faithful to the style and the mottled color set this elegant interior with a lived-in quality the dining room with a cherry wood table and a sideboard that I designed and carved with a further lease motif the National French symbol the piano room with Louis 15 two seater sofa overlooking the front garden carries us into its musical intimacy again the OB song rug with its faded color and 17th century floral design complete the room old framed maps and eighteenth-century edgings of French towns and castles said the ambience in the dining room [Music] the lounge is a true feast for the eyes from the Loess 15 fireplace and mirror to the furniture and the rugs the setting is perfect here the coziness and intimacy of the French Provincial style truly speaks it speaks in the mustard and green fabric dappled with reds and Pink's the green gold trim dress curtains framed the room the swags of the velvet mirroring the scalloped aprons of the furniture the lace she is filtering the sunlight and diffusing its glow scatter cushion with French tapestry fabric worked on casual charm on the surface [Music] the arbalet chest as it's called in French or crossbow front a chest of drawers is a reproduction of another iconic French Provincial piece the beautiful craftsmanship in these carved details an 18th century provençale sideboard fielded panel finally carved and with the traditional escutcheon which is so typical of that period it's in warm cherry wood and it has all of the feeling of the provençale piece I love how the French are able to take the carved and decorative motifs of the period and infuse them with a country charm that shows the personality of the artisan who has carved it often feel that touch still somehow speaks to me over the centuries are their lives and humanity again a rustic oak buffet brings its old country charm to the kitchen and breakfast area the painted kitchen with its simple lines allows the preserves roman blinds and the hanging lavender to set the tone the provincial tableware is resting on table mats of Provence Indian Prince sets the breakfast mood around this antique country table surrounded by the traditional oak chairs with rush seats the daybed fabric is a small print that contrasts with a large panel of 12 de Joie of the cushion on the balcony overlooking the harbor the outdoor table is again dressed with a French interpretation in the 18th century of the exotic colors of India going downstairs we come to a room with strong Moroccan influences reminding us that the French provincial style is part of the wider Mediterranean region the pool area is framed by lavender and low stone walls with Ampharos the Greek vases but instead of the hills of Provence the Sydney Harbor with its Mediterranean climate smiles at us going upstairs to the bedroom the wrought iron banister continues the play of decorative motives a French tapestry a Mongolian chest with a sculpture all continue to show us that a French style is one that embraces a visual multiculturalism [Music] the master bedroom is again where the Loess 15 style shows it's restful richness the walk-in wardrobe follows the French style with French doors painted finish and a louis stool here a blend of painted finishes gold colorful fabrics and cream mirror the softness of the sheers and allows the curves scallops carved motives of the lui 15 style to bring a whimsical yet snug atmosphere the flowers in an old painting remind us that the French Provincial colors are inspired by its surroundings even in expensive reproductions with a coat of paint some color highlights and a rub over with brown wax can transform something that straightaway lightens the seriousness of wood in many ways if there is one word or concept that describes the essence of what French Provincial style is it is this creating a feeling of lightness through color and lifting the mood and seriousness of furniture and decor by giving it curves and shapes that in some ways wood is not meant to have a lightness of spirit and intention in one surrounding is very much the opposite of the puritanical spirit of Northern Europe and their period I love the detail on this years with the antique hold bag and the pelmet but Pierre the Gilda reproduced all based on the apron on the desk in the lounge it seems quite appropriate and very French but the Loess 15 furniture in this bedroom seems to almost flirt with us with the sensuality of their curves and shapes [Music]
