whatever your reason for stopping welcome to Mayberry Mayberry we thought this was Elm City automobiles played an important part in The Andy Griffith Show in fact several of the best episodes were written around cars and the people who were driving them so let's take a gander at some of the fine machines that made their way into the Sleepy southern town of Mayberry let's begin [Music] 1954 Ford Custom line sedan after deciding to buy a car for the first time Barney sees an ad in the newspaper for a 1954 Ford Custom line which appears to be just what he's looking for I'm going to buy a car I drew my savings out of the bank and I'm going to get myself an automobile the seller is a little old lady who claims her husband has recently passed away leaving her to find a new owner for his car she assures Barney that the car was only ever driven at low speed and that it just breaks her heart to sell it Andy advises caution and suggests that he have WALL-E the mechanic give the car a once over but Barney won't hear of it the Charming innocent looking old lady has poor gullible Barney wrapped around her fingers so tight that he even overpays for the car the next day when Barney and the Gang take it out for a drive in the country not surprisingly the 54 Ford breaks down after Goomer and Wally check it out he finds a whole laundry list of defects plugs points barns valves rangs starter switch ignition wires water pump fuel pump oil pump clutch clutch Burns clutch plates brake lining when the car breaks down a second time Andy and Barney soon find out exactly what that old lady and her secret gang of con artists have been up to 1961 Ford Thunderbird Andy and Barney spot an out of town speeder flying down the road doing 70 in a 45 Zone after pulling over the speeding Thunderbird the driver Elizabeth Crowley accuses Andy and Barney of operating a small town speed trap after refusing to pay the fine Crowley is jailed and awaits trial awaiting her day in court gives her plenty of time to work on swaying the witnesses Barney Floyd and Opie 1925 Harley-Davidson JD there seems to be little Andy and Barney can do about the complaints they continue to receive about speeding on the nearby Highway Barney would love to set up a speed trap but they have only the one squad car without telling Andy Barney goes off to an army surplus store and buys an old 1925 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and side car Andy isn't too sure about it and against his better judgment lets Barney keep it but soon Barney is roaring up and down the street becoming a menace to the citizens of Mayberry realizing that something has to be done about it Andy finds a very useful purpose for Opie's new wood burning kit 1962 Ford Thunderbird Sports Roadster after Andy takes Peggy out on a date the previous night he shows up to her house the next morning and sees a brand new 1962 Thunderbird Sports Roadster parked in front of her house Peggy tells him it was a gift from her father later Andy tells Barney that Peggy comes from a wealthy family and this convinces Barney that she's only with Andy for kicks after a fancy and uncomfortable date night in Raleigh Andy decides to avoid Peggy leaving her myff 1958 Edsel Pacer Barney F left the show after the first five black and white Seasons but Don knots returned as a guest star for five Color episodes the first one was titled the return of Barney F in which he drove into Mayberry in his 1958 edel Pacer Barney incorrectly called it a 1960 model with a 61 Grill perhaps he was swindled again but this time by a used car dealer in Raleigh 1961 Ford Thunderbird convertible after sideswiping farmer Fletch Dil Beck's truck and Andy and Barney find 19-year-old Ronald Bailey and his 61 Ford Thunderbird on the side of the road not far from the scene of the crime he dismisses Andy and Barney as Hicks then gets arrested and taken to jail ronold soon observes the local routine and sees Andy's relationship with Opie causing him to re-evaluate his priorities 1955 Ford Fairlane Sunliner convertible when Aunt be sees a shiny new car that goober has for sale she decides the time has come to learn how to drive but Andy's Dead Set against the idea insisting that driving her around is no bother at all she insists however and gets goober to give her driving lessons but when workers need her car moved out of the way to trim trees Aunt be decides to move the car herself but sideswipes a l large tree in the process she's a gast at what's happened but Salvation may be at hand when Andy thinks he's the one who may have caused the damage 1960 Rambler American with Barney on vacation in Raleigh Andy needs to find someone to fill in as a temporary Deputy when Andy has to go to a sheriff safety conference for a few days nobody's available so he's stuck with goober but goober doesn't take the job seriously while still working at The Filling Station it gets so bad that goober begins to work on cars at the Sheriff's Office and even ends up completely dismantling and reassembling a 1960 Rambler right inside the courthouse 1959 International Harvester B series Andy and Barney are ordered to protect an International Harvester truck transporting a shipment of gold to Fort Knox it's critical that they keep keep it a secret but Barney spills the beans immediately and within minutes all of Mayberry knows a carnival-like atmosphere soon takes hold of the small town while on guard Duty Barney discovers there's no actual gold in the truck but before he's able to get word out about the missing gold he's forced into the back of the International Harvester and is taken for a wild ride Andy chases down the Harvester and rescues Barney before revealing to him that the truck is actually a decoy 1962 Lincoln Continental a business man's Lincoln Continental gets a clogged fuel line and breaks down 2 miles outside of Mayberry on a Sunday he walks to town and finds it deserted until Church lets out the stranger can't believe the slow pace of life in Mayberry and everyone's complete lack of urgency while the businessman waits for his Lincoln to be repaired he learns to to relax in Mayberry whether he likes it or not 1961 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 limousine when the governor's chauffeur Parks the governor's Cadillac in a No Parking Zone in front of the post office Barney feverishly issues a ticket outraged to hear what Barney had done the mayor insists that Andy called the governor's office and apologize but the governor is in fact delighted that someone had the gumption to ticket his car and plans to stop by Mayberry to personally congratulate Barney but Andy fails to tell Barney the good news and when he hears the governor's coming he assumes the worst 1933 Ford V8 the town drunk Otis comes in for his weekly night in jail and is insistent that they wake him up at precisely 8:00 a.m. the next morning Otis tells them he's been working a second job and saving his money for something he's always wanted the next day Otis leaves the jail and later returns behind the wheel of a 1933 Ford hot rod Barney's convinced they have a new Menace In Town Andy reluctantly gives Barney the okay to follow Otis around and make sure he stays out of trouble but when they see him stumble out to his Ford and pass out on the hood they put him in jail and devise an elaborate scheme to get him to swear off driving 1929 Ford Model dable A the musical darling family roll into Mayberry in their 1929 Ford Andy encounters the family as they're letting their overheating Ford cool off drawing water from the town's horse trough The Darlings are a good family and aren't really troublemakers so Andy agrees to let them stay the night at the courthouse the real problem however is that daughter Charlene takes a real shine to Andy and goes after him with a Vengeance she hasn't seen her fiance for a while and isn't sure what her feelings are about him his arrival however sets everything straight 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB goer finds out Andy is taking Aunt B and Opie to the auto show in Raleigh and asks to come along while the gang is browsing for a possible replacement car Aunt B and Opie encounter a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB on the showroom floor the salesman allows Opie to sit in the Supercar and he accidentally engages the windshield wiper fluid causing a bit of a seam Andy encourages Aunt B to look towards a smaller American car as the Ferrari is a little over budget for the Mayberry natives 1955 Jaguar XK 140 when Mayberry's doctor retires after a long and distinguished career he's replaced by a new arrival Dr Thomas Peterson who arrives in town behind the wheel of a 1955 Jaguar XK 140 as a young new doctor everyone is particularly hesitant about his lack of experience but able to afford an exotic Jaguar it seems his practice is doing pretty well after word spreads that he successfully removed Opie's tonsils it seems the town begins to trust his expertise a little more mercedesbenz 190sl Jim Lindsay the once Wayward guitar player whom Andy helped start his musical career returns to Mayberry a success with a brand new Mercedes-Benz 190sl everyone is excited to see the hometown boy that made good but and gets wind of something strange within a day the Mercedes gets repossessed and it seems that despite his success he seems to be charging a lot of his bills and even asking Barney for money Andy gets in touch with the band leader Bobby Fleet who hired Jim and learns that he walked away from the band after Bobby wouldn't make him a partner so Andy arrests Jim as a ruse to reconnect him with the band Bobby is willing to forgive and eventually so is a reluct Jim 1965 Excalibur series 1 all of Mayberry is a flutter when TV and singing star kie Hazelton comes to town driving his 1965 Excalibur series 1 he's there for a quiet rest and just wants to go fishing but aunt be and her friend Clara decide to try to get him to record a song they had written about Maybury kie isn't too interested at first but his manager thinks there's a potential hit there so they agree he invites the ladies to the studio to watch the show but in rehearsal they realize that kie has turned their ballad about Mayberry into a rock and roll song complete with electric guitars and go- go dancers and they demand that he change the arrangement the Mayberry patrol car last but certainly not least the most recognized vehicle in the series is is the Mayberry patrol car Andy and Barney first drove a 1960 Ford Fairlane Town sedan with a whip antenna later Andy would upgrade the patrol car to a series of 1960s Ford Galaxies Ford's newest model was used for each year of the series Andy and Barney would later go on patrol in a series of mid to late 1960s Ford Custom four-door sedans o
