and good evening ladies and gentlemen it is a beautiful saturday afternoon here in salisbury north carolina livingstone college at alumni memorial stadium yeah chris it is a great evening for some football it's been a year since we've been out due to the pandemic and i'm excited to see what livingstone has to offer for this west end classic so as they're coming in chris what what are you thinking about as you see the fan and you see the bands and the captains getting lined up on the field uh brings back a whole lot of memories being here at livingstone college i'll tell you what covert going on last year feels good just to be back to enjoying some football ladies and gentlemen who are just now tuning in to the live stream we will be your um commentators for this evening uh my name is chris peoples and i am reginald johnson we appreciate you guys for tuning in here to livingstone blueberry athletics and the great thing about this commentary today is you have two athletes who play football on the like maples and the oaks so you'll get a commentary as it relates to football but you also get some historical perspectives ladies and gentlemen at this time we ask that everyone please rise for our invocation today we'll be led by minister the campus minister brenda walker and remain standing for our national anthem let us pray gracious god we acknowledge your [Music] ladies and gentlemen your officials for to take today's west end classic the referee is carlos the um [Music] is so we can give you the captains for clark atlanta [Music] which goes [Music] until the second half atlanta will receive the opening kickoff and ladies and gentlemen we're getting ready to have ourselves a football game here in salisbury north carolina as the livingstone blueberries take the field they are excited they are ready to go and i see clark atlanta taking the field in their white shirt right jerseys red and black pants and livingstone has their new uniforms grey on black yeah they're great i got to give a shout out to livingston for that great they came up listen that that that's a colorway that i ain't never seen before now i thought we was doing something when they they brought out the all blue for us and we uh and we were able to mix and match with the blue tops the black pants we kind of went back and forth we even used to do all white on blue they used to look good too but this gray right here i'm feeling that yeah i'm really feeling that great says a lot so they look good hopefully these boys come out and play an awesome football game and they play just as good as they look man i'm looking forward to it hbcu football is underway big shots out to the ci double a livingstone college home that's right and clark atlanta they're visiting us from atlanta georgia home there in the siac conference if anyone knows about that conference that's morehouse lane college just to name a few of these teams so this should be a good battle between two teams that have not played football in the last year yeah excited about this one man so we have our kicker getting ready to kick the ball off for livingstone [Music] and he will be kicking it to two clark defenders there deep in the end zone on the five yard line and in the distance you'll see the band coming in our blue thunder band so ladies and gentlemen weston classic are you ready for some football i am what about you chris i'm excited about it man i'm ready for it i'm excited to see these students filling the stands up oh yeah look at them it smells good out here i think i can smell some fried fish downstairs i think is amazing i think that's probably smelling the white in one and ladies and gentlemen the kickoff is off and we are underway clark takes the ball get on the 30. uh tackled by a livingstone player looks like it's number 23 that'll be jonathan nutt it was number eight darren stevens for clark atlanta on that receiving kickoff [Applause] so livingstone is on defense right now clark is coming up with the offense looks like they are in it some sort of a spreadsheet they have the quarterback is they have one the quarterback and two in the backfield so let's see what they're gonna do in this first play of the game [Applause] [Music] he's tackled by livingstone italian williams number 21 second now and eight for clock atlanta [Applause] tyenn williams the senior linebacker yeah he just sacked the quarterback who is elijah oda [Music] it looks like clark is backed up it's about third and 15. so usually 13-15 chris what do you think coming passing play gotta know it's a pass but the question is who we're gonna pass the ball to so [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that's number 41 jayden echols the sophomore linebacker livingstone college on the pass break up and just like that clark is going to be punting the ball that's a good stance for livingstone on the first play first series of the game back to receive the punt for livingstone college number seven jordan mckinney and number one lazier tim bryant the sophomore quarterback and for clark the punter is going to be fernando lobo he'll be punting the ball and there's a flag on the plate the ball is gonna roll to the 19 yard line [Music] hey man y'all so what do you think about that first series chris i'm gonna tell you what i was pretty impressed by that living stone defense right there man they stood they ground right there for these is oh [Music] even though they're young said these boys got a lot of dog in them they got a lot of fight right i was excited to hear that the atmosphere was great in practice man them guys were flying around it was hot out there and it just like i said it just reminded me of those days man being in you know those college tour days with the conditioning and all that good stuff so coach said he's expecting he got his uh he's he's he's got his expectations set real high for these guys like i said even and i could if they practice how they play yeah i anticipated i i anticipate things to be real great falling down on that play that was number eight for clark atlanta shaking up darren stevens the wide receiver who was taking up on that last punt play yeah it looks like he's walking off with a little bit of help so hopefully this young man to get better if anyone from clark watching him and he's one of your siblings or sons we just hope he gets better we want everyone to be safe in this game called football but yeah as you write chris i did speak to coach also and he said is right now it's a blank slate he doesn't know what he has until they play to that first game so it's open just like we're opening it so if they can play like they did in practice i think we're going to be up for an impressive season for these blueberries and they're taking the field right now looks like that punt looks like that penalty move them back so they'll be coming from the nine yard line number six quarterbacks and livingstone is lined up in a spread set they have three receivers two to the two to the left one to the right and two running backs and livingstone is coming out past out to the left livingston quarterback taken down atlanta defense flying around a little bit you see that number number 32 for clark atlanta number 32 that was jordan johnson yes jordan johnson atlanta and usually want to play if you see the play takes place like that usually someone didn't read their assignment or block a call out who that that that linebacker is or that strong safety so hopefully we can get that corrected soon again livingstone is in that same set two receivers left one to the right and they're gonna pass again and the pass is completed to call by number eddie jalen hurt the freshman tight end nice catch yeah when this takes place chris you want to get out of your end zone any there's a lot of trouble that can happen in in your end zone so right now we're third and about 10. what do you think liverstone is going to run if you had to guess i'm looking for a pass yeah hopefully it could be a pass across the middle the corners and the receivers look pretty much the same right now i haven't seen anyone run any deep routes but that middle of the field looks like it could be open so but i know it's going to be a pass not a run play number six miles hey drops back dancing in the pocket pass is complete it looks like number one a seareton bryant he doesn't gain much that's a sophomore quarterback but they got him lined up at this high receiver so it looks like livingstone is going to be punting the ball right now and that'll be joseph where's our punter he's gonna be playing to number 14 from park atlanta and that is dracar cherry from miami florida and on this chris you just want to hope that they block you don't want anything to happen so you got to play discipline football read all your assignments and get to your blocks because pretty much clark is going to be receiving the ball on livingston side of the field away number 14's he's out of bounds and that is at the 30-yard line so clock atlanta will take over at about the 30 livingstone that's stern livingstone defense see if they're gonna hold up like they did last time yeah just like that clock atlanta has flipped the field so they don't live in stone side of the field now let's hope that livingston can stand up and stop this atlanta defense offense clock is out in the same set two receivers to the left one to the right with two running backs number 10 elijah odom on the carry up the right side he's still going he's still on his feet he's still going he's finally taken down right inside the 10. yeah and then run by number 10 the quarterback for clark atlanta elijah it looks like that play they won the offensive line immediately they won it quick livingstone defensive lineman could not get off the tackles get off the block so what that did is that let the linebackers free and they were not able to make the tackle [Music] looks like clark is going for an inside run in his stop stop by number 41 for livingston college jayden ecclestone linebacker great job under that name 41 jaden epic sophomore linebacker young but he's bawling he's flying around to the football man i'm liking what i'm saying out of that kid yeah it looks like he's second and goal right now chris so if you had to guess clark running the passing because he got options it looks like it's going to be a pass play or a stream the way they lined up hold him back down it looks like number twenty one um third and ten elijah odom clock it down drops back rolling out that he gonna run it he's gonna run it and he does good job he is taken down man i'm telling you that livingstone defense is pretty stern man looks like he was hit by number three number three malcolm mays the senior linebacker it looks like he's a cue also because yeah throwing up the hooks big shots out to the bras little football brother okay they represent everywhere they livingston college salisbury north carolina and you know chris this is the west end classic when you think about livingston in the west end what does that mean to you oh this is historic salisbury this is uh if i'm not mistaken june mclaughlin yeah got7 uh gethsemane baptist church uh what's the name of this building across the street the old school building duncan duncan duncan it's a lot of history around here in salisbury north carolina man a lot of people uh you know may not know about but we are in the heart of the city man the west side of salisbury north carolina right on here on monroe street at monumental livingstone college beneath the maples and the oaks a beautiful saturday afternoon perfect perfect day perfect weather for some football man yeah let's take a moment to would hope so yeah you got to keep the teams off guard i'm not going to lie as excited as i am about football i'm ready to see a big strike in there i'm ready to see somebody connect on a big blast play i'm ready for some action it looks like livingstone is out again eight minutes left in the first quarter livingston under the snap on offense and it's a run looks like number 24 25 that is derek knows junior running back knows of the blue bears okay second and five hopefully i'm boys playing with some energy man i gotta tell you that i'm liking what i'm saying right now so far from livingston especially from that defense those boys being pretty stern and stout out there they hitting they flying around the football livingstone college offense is going to bring that same kind of energy man yeah these boys number 25 on the run on the run again looks like he's going to be yeah in this situation i'm thinking they're gonna yeah they were running i'm thinking they're gonna run it and now we get to see what our living stone offensive linemen have to offer see if they can move clock atlanta's d-line because that's what the game is one at in between the trenches so livingston is lined up and they run the ball they did first down college [Applause] i don't have a name and number for him number 37 on this one right there if i'm not mistaken was that right number 37 we don't have a naming number for that young man but he did pick up that livingstone college first down right there half o'clock atlanta panthers checking up on the play and there's also a time out on the field so we have six minutes 47 seconds left on in the first quarter and for everybody's watching blueberry network like share share and like tell all your friends if you can't come to the game our hope is that you can experience the game while we're on the air in the network so livingstone is first in 10 from the 45 yard line oh [Music] and he connected with number seven jordan mckinney on the reception man that was that big play i was talking about right now that was it right there and right in the middle i think that's going to be clark's weak spot in that middle super big play from livingstone college right there man on that connection that's going to take some momentum going down the field number six he keeps it coming up the middle for a quick pickup getting back to that play chris what did you see in that play and why was this that was a nice roller they fell for that fake is what it was real nice route by number seven jordan mckinney and uh he's a shifty fella man i'm liking what i'm saying out of him he quick off the line he can move he can catch i'm liking what i'm seeing from him they getting a whole lot out of him because he's receiving points and stuff too yeah he is he's earning the scholarship all right livingstone is back looks like this may be either i'm a six mile hayes back deep quarterback is going he's rolling that oh yeah it's holding on the place so it doesn't matter what happens right here and he threw the ball away so it looks like someone got held [Applause] that's true because that pretty much negates what we just saw with that big play that you all was like was talking about exactly get that momentum going to smaller mishaps like that kind of you know take away from that but nonetheless we get it right back here livingstone college approach the line of scrimmage we got a second down about the 40-yard line six mile haze on the center for livingston college takes the snap stream there's a stream you play looks like [Music] bethune the senior running back and he picks up a livingstone first down that's enough for a first down right there for livingstone college nice play all right man so third down for livingstone college in about quarterback i'm seeing a whole lot of this kid man he's rallying these guys he's leading well man that's that senior quarterback leadership that you need out there that is good so the score is 7-0 and we got ourselves a seven to three ball game here at alumni memorial stadium in salisbury north carolina as livingstone leaves the atlanta campus seven to three so chris what did you see on that last series on those two the two past connections if i'm not mistaken i'm seeing the um uh that quarterback is rolling out he's good on his feet yes he's alright uh i don't know man like [Music] he he's impressive right now i'm trying to find the words where i want to put it but he's a present right now i couldn't really tell what you know what what kind of arm he had in warbucks but he's slinging that football man number six miles hey the senior quarterback for livingston college he's slinging that football around man and there's an xy receiver i'm telling you i'm liking what i'm saying right that's right yeah he's rolling out so that's making the linebackers either try to figure out either he's a dual threat he can stand in the pocket and throw it he can so he's definitely a baller man a big shout out to the freshman out there man uh number 13 on the receiving touchdown that was trey fields and i just wanted to point out man knowing that there was a senior quarterback throwing to a freshman receiver says a whole lot man yeah it says you're talking about leadership right there leading them guys looks like clark is ready to receive the kickoff he's on the 20. uh oh wait a minute come on and clock atlanta is going to take over at about the 35 yard line as the offense takes the field let's see with that livingston college defense it's gonna do again so what do you think clark the clock in the first quarter run by the quarterback is gonna keep it nice run by elijah odom that's the quarterback for clark atlanta he's out of newport news virginia and he's tackled by terrence mcpherson on the keeper but i'm not gonna say he's gonna have another fourth clock atlanta first down yeah it is a first down and clark is moving the chain gonna bring them guys a little bit past the 50. got two minutes and 43 seconds in the first quarter all right livingston we need a big stop right now it looks like livingston is blitzing that was number 40 on the keep perry seldon perry sailing a running back looks like it's a very short game second down to eight livingston was coming in they lift up the a gap and they were able to sustain that running back so good play livingston [Music] he is finally taken down by once again number 41 jayden esco the sophomore live back and ladies and gentlemen that young man is baldwin very very very strong defensive presence right now by livingstone college man is number 41 jaden evans is checking out of the game that young man sophomore linebacker for livingstone he's all over the field chris big tackle for a loss right there man he is bawling ladies and gentlemen so he flying high balling yes sir and we got a third alone situation for elijah oldham and leather panthers as he goes back deep to pass he's in pursuit rolling up to the right he's going to go that's a big hit big hit see that number right there so it looks like clock atlanta is going to be playing the ball that's a strong stance present once again by livingstone college blue bear network this is the west end classic between clark atlanta panthers and the livingston college uh blueberries we got a catch in the run right here ladies and gentlemen okay number one lazier to brian and looked a little dangerous at first but he caught that bad boy nice little game on that if i was a coach i'd say bear catcher you know we already got some momentum going on but that's why we play the game all right man big shout out to the livingston college defense man young boys playing some amazing football right now so what you're expecting again from our qb mile miles he's the senior you know what i'm liking what i'm saying right now there's a senior he's got the momentum he's just connecting another touchdown pass i'm expecting liverstone to go to the air again man yes i'm way too many so many just being on campus i remember you know just uh just just the college life and then of course you know football just seeing so many uh familiar faces from coaches um and other clark atlanta is using uh a pretty much quick offense i would call a two minute offense without in two minutes yet but they're trying to establish a tempo for this game right now but there's a catch you looking to see on on this series chris well we're looking at eight minutes or 40 seconds going into the seventh in the in the second quarter gotta score about seven to three [Music] i see yeah he's looking good right now looks like there is a penalty that's a false start that'll be taking livingstone back you can't take two steps forward and one step back just can't do it in the game they have played a great growl they left and you hate to see mental mistakes doom a team absolutely absolutely but i will say from the mistakes that we've seen today and i'm speaking to both teams yeah the mistakes that we've seen today were very minimal yeah they were and there were there were things that you know you talking to two three four games into the season they wanted to be making those mistakes again those were just mistakes from today i think the kick is up it's good and the kick is good clark wins the game 13 to 10. and shout out to that kicker i mean he did it carlos adonya so with three seconds left a top ball game at 10 to 10 in the fourth quarter referees will lead atlanta university kicks a field goal and takes the game takes the victory at the season opener here at alumni memorial stadium livingstone college clock atlanta came out victorious 13 to 10. 13 to 10. and chris you got to give it up to this park atlanta team got to give it up to them they took they used their opportunities and they made it work absolutely so absolutely they did a good job absolutely got to salute those guys they played one heck of a ball game salute to the clock atlanta fans they came up here they traveled very well and yes came up here to support those guys and show them some love and uh they just did a great job you know you gotta yeah as a as a former ball player you always got to know how and when to show that good sportsmanship and like you say just just seems like minimal mistakes they made the fewer mistakes yes and the better team won livingstone college man just showed on both sides of the ball showed areas of only of of only getting better of only improving i'm very excited about this season cut a couple of mistakes out a couple of turnovers we we're right where we need to be absolutely so coach can learn from this the team can learn from this absolutely it's a bit of victory it's a team effort absolutely it's a bit of defeat i know it's going to sting a little bit but sometimes you need a stinging defeat so you can figure out okay where do we go from here absolutely there's no way to go from but from here right absolutely i think it's best to let the season openers serve as an eye opener yeah and build off of it that's a great crocodile uh clock atlanta team it's not like you got your butt beat by some scrubs right you know you got beat by a great a good clock atlanta team and you let that like i said you let that season opener be the eye opener and it's only up from here and that's exactly right chris i i i mean they they were pretty much evenly matched a couple of turnovers a couple of appendages and you love to see players because this this this is a sport that many people can't play exactly meet in the middle of the field
