[ SQUEALING ] Narrator: WELCOME TO A WORLD
WHERE CUDDLY KNOWS NO BOUNDS -- A PLACE FILLED
WITH NEW BEGINNINGS. WITNESS THE MIRACLE OF CUTE. FROM THEIR FIRST
TRIUMPHANT CALLS TO THE WILD... [ WHIMPERING ] ...TO THEIR ADVENTURES
IN PLAYTIME... ...IT'S
A PUPPY COMING-OF-AGE STORY, AND IT'S
AWE-INSPIRINGLY ADORABLE. BECAUSE THESE PUPPIES
ARE JUST TOO LOVEABLE... [ BARKS ] [ GROWLS ] ...TOO DETERMINED... [ SQUEALS ] ...TOO CUTE. -- Captions by VITAC --

DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS [ BARKING ] IN A COZY CABIN
DEEP IN THE WOODS LIVES A HAVANESE LAPDOG
NAMED LULU... WHO ENJOYS A LIFE
OF LEISURE AND LOUNGING. BUT LATELY,
THERE'S A LITTLE LESS LEISURE. [ PANTING ] SHE'S NOW A FIRST-TIME MOM
TO FIVE ADORABLE PUPPIES. [ BARKS ] [ SQUEALS ] THREE LOOK JUST LIKE HER. ONE IS BROWN AND WHITE, AND ONE IS ALL WHITE,
RARE FOR A HAVANESE. WITH THEIR LONG, LUSH LOCKS,
THE ELEGANT HAVANESE WERE ONCE BRED TO BE LAPDOGS
FOR CUBAN ARISTOCRATS. THEY'VE SINCE TRAVELED
FAR AND WIDE, BUT THEY'RE ALWAYS AT HOME
ON A GOOD LAP. LULU'S WHITE PUP, MISTY,
MAY BE A NATURAL-BORN PRINCESS. WHILE HER BROTHERS AND SISTERS
WORK TO GET MILK... MISTY OPTS TO GET HERSELF
ROCKED TO SLEEP. BUT MOM KNOWS THAT ALL
HER LITTLE ONES NEED TO EAT... AND HAS EVERYONE SLIDE DOWN
SO MISTY CAN GET A PRIME SEAT. [ SQUEALING ] EATING IS HARD WORK
WHEN YOU JUST WEIGH 6 OUNCES. SO THE PUPS SETTLE IN FOR A NAP. BUT LULU'S ON HIGH ALERT
FOR ANY UNWELCOME GUESTS. [ BIRD CHIRPING ] [ GROWLS ] THAT BIRD SEEMS TO BE OUTSIDE, BUT A NEW MOM
CAN NEVER BE TOO CAREFUL. [ GROWLING CONTINUES ] WHILE MOM'S BACK IS TURNED, RESTLESS LITTLE LEO
DECIDES TO WANDER. [ SQUEALING ] BUT LULU
HAS HER EYES ON EVERYTHING AND GUIDES HIM BACK
WHERE HE BELONGS. LEO WILL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME
TO GO HIS OWN WAY ONCE HE CAN SEE, HEAR, AND WALK. IN THE MEANTIME, AS LONG
AS HE'S UNDER MOM'S WATCH, HE'LL NEVER FALL VERY FAR. A FEW MILES AWAY
LIVES ANOTHER NEW MOM. TWO-YEAR-OLD PEANUT
IS A RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK -- A BREED KNOWN FOR THEIR HUNTING
AND RUNNING SKILLS. BUT PEANUT'S NOT RUNNING
ANYWHERE THESE DAYS. SHE'S GOT THREE BRAND-NEW
PUPPIES TO KEEP TRACK OF. ONE, TWO, THREE. YEP, THEY'RE ALL THERE. RIDGEBACKS ARE BORN
WITH THEIR TRADEMARK -- A RIDGE OF HAIR
RUNNING DOWN THEIR BACK IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION
FROM THE REST OF THEIR COAT. [ SQUEALS ] PEANUT'S TWO GIRLS, GEMMA
AND CLOVER, HAVE MATCHING COATS. THEY'RE BROTHER, RUFUS,
SPORTS A HANDSOME TAN. THE SISTERS
HAVE BEEN INSEPARABLE FROM THE MOMENT
THEY ENTERED THE WORLD. [ WHIMPERING ] BUT RUFUS IS HAVING SOME TROUBLE
FITTING IN. GEMMA AND CLOVER SLEEP
FACE-TO-FACE IN CASE OF A BAD DREAM... [ WHIMPERING ] ...WHICH MAKES RUFUS
A BIT OF A THIRD WHEEL. WHEN LUNCHTIME ROLLS AROUND, RUFUS CAN'T GET A GOOD SEAT
AT THE TABLE. AND HIS SISTERS AREN'T CONCERNED
ABOUT MAKING ROOM. POOR RUFUS IS LEFT OUT AGAIN. [ WHIMPERS ] PEANUT KNOWS JUST
HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM -- EITHER EVERYONE EATS TOGETHER...
OR NO ONE EATS AT ALL. [ WHIMPERING ] RUFUS IS FINE
WITH THIS ARRANGEMENT. HIS SISTERS? NOT SO MUCH. MEANWHILE, A FEW TOWNS AWAY,
A STORY OF TWIN BROTHERS BEGINS. OSCAR AND TONY ARE CHOW CHOWS,
OR JUST "CHOWS" FOR SHORT. THEY COME FROM
A LONG LINE OF SHOW DOGS. THEIR MOM, MAYA, HAS BEEN
RACKING UP RIBBONS AND TROPHIES FOR NEARLY THREE YEARS. THEY MAY BE TWINS,
BUT AT 2 POUNDS 4 OUNCES, OSCAR IS NEARLY TWICE
TONY'S SIZE. NOT TO WORRY. THERE'S
PLENTY OF TIME TO CATCH UP. [ WHIMPERS ] CHOWS ARE AMONG THE WORLD'S
FIRST DOMESTICATED BREEDS. THEY HAIL FROM ANCIENT CHINA, WHERE THE LION-LIKE DOGS WERE
PRIZED FOR THEIR HUNTING SKILLS. TODAY, THEY'RE BELOVED PETS, KNOWN FOR THEIR
UNIQUE BLUISH TONGUES. MAYA'S LITTER OF TWO PUPS
IS UNUSUAL, AS MOST CHOW LITTERS
HAVE SIX TO EIGHT. [ PANTING ] YOU MIGHT THINK
SHE'S GOT IT EASY. [ SQUEALS ] BUT HER BIG BOY OSCAR DOESN'T GIVE HER
A MOMENT'S PEACE. [ SQUEALING CONTINUES ] HE'S ONE FUSSY BABY. [ SQUEALING CONTINUES ] NO MATTER HOW FAR HE STRAYS,
OSCAR MAKES SURE TO BE HEARD. [ SQUEALING CONTINUES ] POOR MAYA DOESN'T KNOW
WHAT TO DO TO QUIET HIM DOWN. [ SQUEALING CONTINUES ] THIS NEW MOM
COULD USE A HELPING HAND. AND A LITTLE ROCKING
DOES THE TRICK. COMING UP, LITTLE LEO
GOES ON HIS FIRST BIG ADVENTURE. [ SQUEALS ] BUT HE MAY HAVE GONE TOO FAR. [ HOWLS ] Narrator:
IN THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, LULU WATCHES OVER
HER GROWING LITTER OF FIVE... [ SQUEALS ] ...WHO, AT THREE WEEKS OLD,
ARE JUST BEGINNING TO WALK -- WHICH MEANS SOON, THEY'LL BE WALKING
INTO ALL SORTS OF TROUBLE. BUT FOR NOW,
THEIR SHAKY LEGS TIRE OUT FAST. LITTLE MISTY DECIDES SHE'D
RATHER REST HER PRECIOUS PAWS THAN PRACTICE WALKING. [ SQUEALS ] LOOKS LIKE A GOOD IDEA
TO HER SIBLINGS, TOO. [ SQUEALS ] SO LULU SEIZES THE MOMENT
TO TAKE A BREAK. BUT UNLIKE MISTY, RESTLESS LEO
HAS NO INTEREST IN RELAXING. HE TRIES TO MAKE HIS BROTHER
GET UP AND PLAY... ...BUT DOESN'T HAVE MUCH LUCK. SO HE DECIDES TO GO FOR A WALK
ON HIS OWN. [ WHIMPERING ] HE ONLY GETS
TO THE EDGE OF THE BLANKET, BUT THAT'S PRETTY FAR WHEN YOUR
LEGS ARE JUST 3 INCHES LONG. SUDDENLY, THE TRIP BACK
LOOKS PRETTY INTIMIDATING. [ WHIMPERING CONTINUES ] [ HOWLS ] [ DRAMATIC MUSIC PLAYS ] BUT EVERY JOURNEY,
NO MATTER HOW GREAT OR SMALL, BEGINS WITH A SINGLE STEP. [ MUSIC CONTINUES ] [ SQUEALS ] [ SQUEALS ] LULU RETURNS, UNAWARE
OF LEO'S BIG ADVENTURE, AND FINDS EVERYONE
RIGHT WHERE SHE LEFT THEM. AT JUST THREE WEEKS OLD, THE RIDGEBACK PUPS
HAVE THEIR VERY FIRST OUTING. BUT SO FAR, THEY'RE NOT DOING
MUCH SIGHTSEEING. SO MOM GIVES THE PUPS
SOME SPACE TO EXPLORE WHILE SHE STRETCHES HER LEGS. RIDGEBACKS
CAN RUN UP TO 35 MILES AN HOUR AND WERE ONCE BRED TO HELP
HUNT LIONS IN SOUTHERN AFRICA. WHILE PET RIDGEBACKS
DON'T DO MUCH LION HUNTING, THEY STILL LOVE THE OUTDOORS. BUT RIGHT NOW, THE PUPS ARE A BIT UNSURE
ABOUT THESE NEW SURROUNDINGS. [ WHIMPERS ] SISTERS GEMMA AND CLOVER
DO EVERYTHING AS A PAIR. THEY HAVE A SNIFF AROUND, BUT THE GROUND'S TOO CHILLY
TO VENTURE BEYOND THE BLANKET. MEANWHILE, THIRD-WHEEL RUFUS IS NOT TOO HAPPY
ABOUT THE WIND CHILL. WHILE IT'S USUALLY
GIRLS VERSUS BOY IN THIS PACK, WHEN IT COMES TO TAKING ON
THE BACKYARD WILDERNESS, THEY ALL BAND TOGETHER. IF THE CHOW TWINS ARE GOING TO
BE SHOW DOGS LIKE THEIR MOM, THEY NEED TO BE ABLE
TO ADAPT TO NEW PLACES -- EVEN IF IT TAKES
A LITTLE NUDGING. [ PANTING ] SLOWLY BUT SURELY, TONY'S
CATCHING UP TO OSCAR IN SIZE. BUT OSCAR'S DEFINITELY
STILL THE BIGGER BABY. [ WHIMPERING ] TONY, THE BRAVER BROTHER,
IS READY TO HAVE A LOOK AROUND. BUT OSCAR'S NOT BUDGING. [ BARKS ] TONY TRIES TO GET OSCAR
TO COME OUT AND PLAY. [ WHIMPERS ] BUT OSCAR HAS NO INTEREST. [ GROWLS ] [ WHIMPERS ] [ WHIMPERING ] IF OSCAR WON'T PLAY, TONY WILL FIND SOMEONE
OR SOMETHING THAT WILL. ENTICED BY TONY'S DISCOVERY, OSCAR FINALLY SEES A GOOD REASON
TO GET IN THE GAME. [ UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYS ] THE PUPS DON'T STAY FOCUSED
ON THE TOY FOR VERY LONG, BUT THAT'S OKAY. TONY'S JUST GLAD OSCAR'S OUT
FROM UNDER THE TABLE. [ BARKS ] [ WHIMPERING ] COMING UP, THE HAVANESE PUPS ARE BIG ENOUGH
TO JOIN MOM ON HER BREAKS... WHICH MEANS THEY'RE
NOT REALLY BREAKS ANYMORE. [ GROWLS ] Narrator: NO MORE WOBBLY LEGS
FOR THE HAVANESE PUPS. [ UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYS ] AT 6 1/2 WEEKS, THEY'VE
TRIPLED IN SIZE SINCE BIRTH. THESE DAYS,
THEY CAN JOIN LULU WHENEVER
SHE GOES OUT FOR BREAKS... [ GROWLS ] ...WHICH MEANS LULU'S BREAKS
AREN'T REALLY BREAKS AT ALL. EXHAUSTED MOM LULU DECIDES TO GO OFF AND
TAKE A FEW MINUTES FOR HERSELF. BUT MISTY SEEMS TO THINK
SHE'S EXTRA SPECIAL. [ SQUEALS ] LULU IS HOPING
FOR A FEW MINUTES OF PEACE BUT ALLOWS MISTY TO STAY
IF SHE CAN LIE QUIETLY. [ SQUEALING ] BUT WHEN THE REST OF THE GANG
FOLLOWS, MOM'S AT THE END OF HER ROPE. [ GROWLS ] [ SQUEALS ] [ GROWLS ] [ GROWLS ] MOM'S ALL GROWL AND NO BITE. [ GROWLS ] BUT THEY GET THE MESSAGE
AND LOOK FOR OTHER THINGS TO DO. LEO, WHO'S ALWAYS QUICK
TO WANDER OFF, GOES ON HIS VERY FIRST DIG... ...AND DISCOVERS HE HAS A REAL
TASTE FOR THE GREAT OUTDOORS. WHAT A DIFFERENCE
THREE WEEKS MAKES. THE RIDGEBACK PUPS ARE NO LONGER AFRAID
OF THE BACKYARD WILDERNESS. INSEPARABLE SISTERS
GEMMA AND CLOVER ARE BUSY COLLECTING TOYS... WHILE THEIR LEFT-OUT BROTHER,
RUFUS, WATCHES, AS USUAL. LOOKS LIKE THEY NEED AN ACTIVITY
THEY CAN ALL SHARE. TIME FOR THE PUPS TO LEARN THAT HALF THE FUN OF HUNTING
IS THE CHASE. THE TARGET IS THIS BANDANA, AND
THE CHALLENGE IS TO CATCH IT. BUT RUFUS' INNER HUNTER
MAY BE ASLEEP. AND HE'S LEFT OUT AGAIN. [ WHIMPERS ] HARD-WORKING MOMS
NEED TO HAVE SOME FUN, TOO, AND TODAY, PEANUT'S GONNA DO
SOME CHASING OF HER OWN. SHE'S HEADING TO A LURE COURSE, WHERE DOGS CHASE ARTIFICIAL PREY
AS IT'S PULLED ACROSS A FIELD. [ BARKS ] [ BARKING ] LURE COURSING IS A POPULAR SPORT
FOR RIDGEBACKS BECAUSE IT SATISFIES
THEIR HUNTING INSTINCTS. PEANUT HASN'T BEEN TO THE COURSE
SINCE BEFORE SHE WAS PREGNANT, AND SHE CAN'T WAIT
TO GET RUNNING. AFTER MONTHS OF BEING COOPED UP
AT HOME CARING FOR THE PUPS, PEANUT'S FINALLY ABLE
TO LET LOOSE. [ GROWLS ] THE BIGGER THE CHOW TWINS GROW, THE MORE WAYS
THEY CAN FIND TROUBLE. LUCKILY, THEY HAVE TOYS
TO KEEP THEM ON THE RIGHT PATH. [ GROWLS ] BUT OSCAR HAS A HARD TIME
KNOWING WHAT'S A TOY... [ GROWLS ] NO BITING. ...AND WHAT'S NOT. [ GROWLS ] MAYBE A WATER BREAK
WILL KEEP HIM OCCUPIED. TONY WAITS PATIENTLY
FOR HIS TURN TO DRINK. BUT OSCAR HAS DISCOVERED IT'S MORE FUN TO PLAY WITH WATER
THAN TO DRINK IT. [ GROWLS ] EVENTUALLY, EVEN QUIET TONY
RUNS OUT OF PATIENCE... [ GROWLS ] ...AND DECIDES IT'S FINALLY TIME TO GIVE OSCAR
SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. [ BARKS ] COMING UP, THE RIDGEBACK SISTERS
COVER NEW GROUND, AND OSCAR FINDS A NEW AUDIENCE
TO COMPLAIN TO. Man:
OH, I'M SO SORRY. [ GROWLS ] AND NOW A "TOO CUTE" QUIZ. A MEMBER OF WHICH
OF THE THREE BREEDS WAS A CONSTANT PRESENCE IN SIGMUND FREUD'S
PSYCHIATRIC OFFICE? WAS IT THE HAPPY HAVANESE? THE ANCIENT CHOW? OR THE ELEGANT RIDGEBACK? THE ANSWER MAY SURPRISE YOU. Narrator: A MEMBER
OF WHICH OF THE THREE BREEDS WAS A CONSTANT PRESENCE IN SIGMUND FREUD'S
PSYCHIATRIC OFFICE? [ SQUEALS ] THE ANSWER? A CHOW. DR. FREUD BELIEVED
HIS CHOW, JOFI, HELPED HIM
CALM ANXIOUS PATIENTS. [ GROWLS ] ONE OF THE PERKS
OF BEING A TOY BREED IS THAT YOU GET TO TRAVEL
IN STYLE. THE HAVANESE PUPS ARE STILL
TOO YOUNG TO GO OUT ON THE TOWN, BUT IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY
TO START PRACTICING. THE FIRST STEP IS GETTING
ACQUAINTED WITH THEIR VEHICLE. SO FAR, THEY'RE NOT
JUMPING AT THE CHANCE. BUT LULU IS A SEASONED TRAVELER WHO'S ALWAYS HAPPY
TO GET ON BOARD... ...UNTIL SHE REALIZES
THAT THE MOTOR'S NOT RUNNING. ONCE THEY SEE
IT'S GOT MOM'S APPROVAL, THE PUPS LINE UP
TO GIVE IT A TRY. IT'S GOT A ROOMY INTERIOR
AND A SUN ROOF. LITTLE PRINCESS MISTY DOESN'T WANT TO FIGHT THE CROWD
FOR A SEAT. WHEN THEY GROW UP, THE PUPS WILL HAVE
ALL SORTS OF TRAVEL ADVENTURES. BUT FOR NOW, EXPLORING THE CARRIER
IS AN ADVENTURE IN ITSELF. PEANUT'S LITTLE RIDGEBACKS ARE GROWING
INTO STRONG YOUNG HUNTERS. AND THESE DAYS, THEY'RE HUNTING
ANYTHING THAT CAN'T GET AWAY. [ SQUEAKING ] SISTERS GEMMA AND CLOVER DISCOVER THAT THE BEST PREY
OF ALL IS THEIR BROTHER, RUFUS. [ GROWLING ] [ SQUEALS ] [ BARKS ] THEY MAY NEED TO BE REMINDED THAT THEY'RE NOT
SUPPOSED TO HUNT EACH OTHER. SO... THEY'RE RELEASED INTO THE WILD. OUTSIDE, THE RIDGEBACK PUPS
ARE GIVEN SPECIAL HUNTING TOYS, WHICH ARE DESIGNED TO LOOK
AND FEEL JUST LIKE PREY. THE GIRLS DON'T MIND SHARING --
BUT ONLY WITH EACH OTHER. AS USUAL,
RUFUS IS THE ODD MAN OUT. TIRED OF PLAYING SOLO, HE JOINS THE PARTY,
WHETHER HE'S INVITED OR NOT. [ GROWLS ] TURNS OUT, HE'S NOT. [ BARKS ] [ GROWLS ] [ BARKS ] THE PUPS ARE SO BUSY SQUABBLING THEY DON'T REALIZE
THAT MOM'S COME OUT. [ BARKS ] SHE REMINDS THEM
THAT THEY'RE A PACK, AND IN THIS PACK,
YOU'RE EXPECTED TO PLAY NICE. [ BARKS ] BEFORE THE CHOW BOYS
CAN EVER ENTER A DOG SHOW, THEY'LL NEED A DOCTOR'S NOTE. AT 4 WEEKS OLD, THEY'RE READY
FOR THEIR FIRST CHECK-UP, BUT THEY'LL HAVE TO WAIT
THEIR TURN. [ WHIMPERING ] [ BARKING ] PATIENCE ISN'T EXACTLY
OSCAR'S STRONG SUIT. [ BARKING CONTINUES ] MEANWHILE,
TONY DOESN'T MAKE A PEEP. IN FACT, HE'S GOTTEN SO GOOD
AT IGNORING OSCAR HE MAY NEED TO GET
HIS EARS CHECKED. [ BARKING CONTINUES ] Man: YOU'RE
A BRAVE LITTLE BOY. PATIENT TONY PASSES HIS EXAM
WITH FLYING COLORS. NOW LET'S SEE HOW OSCAR DOES. OKAY.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK. NICE AND PURPLE. [ WHIMPERING ] SORRY. [ GROWLS ] [ GROWLS ] [ GROWLS ] [ WHIMPERS ] OH, THAT ONE PINCHED A LITTLE.
I'M SO SORRY. [ GROWLS ] OSCAR COMPLAINS PLENTY. BUT EVERYTHING
CHECKS OUT GREAT. WITH A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH, THE CHOW TWINS ARE ONE STEP
CLOSER TO THE SHOW RING. COMING UP, OSCAR AND TONY MEET
THEIR SHOW-DOG COUSINS. [ SQUEALS ] AND OSCAR HAS SOME COMPLAINTS. [ SQUEALS ] Narrator:
AT THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, THE HAVANESE PUPPIES ARE TURNING
INTO INDEPENDENT YOUNG DOGS. THEY'RE FINALLY BIG ENOUGH
TO HANDLE TOYS, THOUGH SHARING THEM
MAY TAKE SOME PRACTICE... [ GROWLS ] ...ESPECIALLY FOR MISTY, WHO SEEMS TO FEEL ENTITLED
TO ANY TOY SHE WANTS, NO MATTER WHO SAW IT FIRST. RESTLESS LEO, WHO'S NEVER BEEN
AFRAID TO STRAY FROM THE BUNCH, KEEPS HIS TOY SAFE FROM MISTY
BY MAKING A RUN FOR IT. NO MATTER FOR MISTY. SHE'S GOT PLENTY
OF OTHER TREASURES TO STEAL. MEANWHILE, MOM LULU CAN FINALLY BE AWAY
FROM THE PUPS LONG ENOUGH TO GET IN
A MUCH-NEEDED SPA DAY. IT TAKES PLENTY
OF PRIMPING AND PAMPERING... ...BUT FOR THE FIRST TIME
SINCE BECOMING A MOM, LULU'S FINALLY FEELING
LIKE HER OLD SELF AGAIN. AT 10 WEEKS OLD, OSCAR AND TONY ARE READY TO
START TRAINING TO BE SHOW DOGS. TODAY, THEY VISIT THEIR
BIG COUSINS QUIXOTE AND PEARL, WHO ARE DECORATED CHAMPIONS. THE BOYS CAN LEARN A LOT
BY FOLLOWING THEIR LEAD. SHOW DOGS MUST BE ABLE
TO STAND ON A PLATFORM AND STEP DOWN ON COMMAND. QUIXOTE AND PEARL WILL SHOW
THE PUPS HOW IT'S DONE. [ SQUEALS ] OSCAR IMMEDIATELY VOICES
A COMPLAINT. THIS BENCH IS TALL, AND HIS BIG COUSINS HAVE
AN OBVIOUS HEIGHT ADVANTAGE. [ SQUEALS ] TONY, ON THE OTHER HAND,
WATCHES AND LEARNS. SUDDENLY, OSCAR'S ALL ALONE WITH NO ONE LEFT TO COMPLAIN TO
BUT HIMSELF. [ WHIMPERING ] [ BARKS ] OUT OF OPTIONS, OSCAR FINALLY QUITS COMPLAINING
AND TAKES A LEAP OF FAITH. NOT THE SMOOTHEST LANDING, BUT IF YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE IT
IN THE SHOW WORLD, YOU GOT TO SHAKE IT OFF
AND MOVE ON. THE RIDGEBACK PUPS WAKE UP TO FIND SOMETHING BIG
BEING BUILT IN THEIR BACKYARD. AN ACTUAL
MECHANICAL LURE COURSE. [ WHIMPERING ] UNDER MOM'S SUPERVISION,
THEY GO SEE WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT. TODAY, THEIR INNER HUNTERS
WILL BE PUT TO THE TEST. BUT FIRST, MOM PEANUT
SHOWS THEM HOW IT'S DONE. NOW IT'S TIME
FOR THE PUPS TO TRY IT. GEMMA AND CLOVER GO FIRST, AND,
AS USUAL, THEY WORK AS A TEAM. BUT IT TURNS OUT
TWO HEADS ARE ONLY BETTER IF AT LEAST ONE
KNOWS WHAT'S GOING ON. RUFUS WATCHES HIS SISTERS
FROM THE SIDELINES. WHEN IT'S HIS TURN, HOPEFULLY
HE'LL BE MORE OF A NATURAL... BECAUSE THEY COULD USE A TUTOR. Woman:
PUPPY, PUPPY, PUPPY! COMING UP, OSCAR AND TONY
ARE PUT TO THE TEST AS THEY TAKE THEIR FIRST STEPS
INTO THE SHOW RING. Woman: LET'S GO. Narrator:
AT 10 WEEKS OLD, THE HAVANESE ARE ALMOST READY TO MOVE ON
TO THEIR PERMANENT HOMES. BUT FIRST,
THEY REACH A NEW MILESTONE ON THEIR JOURNEY
TO BECOMING LOVEABLE LAPDOGS. GETTING BEAUTIFUL IS TOUGH WORK, SO THE PUPS CUDDLE UP
BY THE FIRE TO SLEEP IT OFF. IT'S BEEN ALMOST THREE MONTHS SINCE LULU'S PUPS
ENTERED THE WORLD. MISTY WAS
A NATURAL-BORN PRINCESS... [ CHIRPING ] ...AND HAS GROWN TO LOVE
EVERYTHING ABOUT BEING A LAPDOG. SHE'LL SOON JOIN HER NEW FAMILY WHERE, NO DOUBT,
SHE'LL GET PLENTY OF ATTENTION AND HAVE HER TOYS
ALL TO HERSELF. [ SQUEALING ] HER BROTHER LEO
WAS BORN A RESTLESS, LITTLE PUP. AND IN TRUE FORM, HE'LL BE THE FIRST
TO LEAVE THE CABIN IN THE WOODS. GOOD, GOOD. I CAUGHT THE PUPPY. YEAH! PUPPY. TICKLE ME. HE'S TICKLING YOU? Narrator:
NOW HIS NEW FAMILY GETS TO JOIN HIM
ON ALL HIS ADVENTURES TO COME. OH!
[ BABBLES ] IT'S GRADUATION DAY
FOR THE CHOW TWINS, AS WELL. TODAY, THEY MEET
A TOP DOG-SHOW HANDLER WHO WILL REPRESENT THEM
IN THE SHOW RING IF THEY CAN PROVE
THEY HAVE WHAT IT TAKES. OSCAR IS PUT ON THE TABLE
TO SHOW OFF HIS STATS AND STARTS OFF
WITH HIS USUAL COMPLAINTS. [ WHIMPERING ] Woman: SO WE CAN LOOK RIGHT IN
AND SEE THAT BLUE TONGUE. THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL BOY. NOW YOUR TREATS. BUT HE QUICKLY LEARNS
A VALUABLE LESSON... GOOD BODY. IF HE DOES A TASK RIGHT,
HE GETS A REWARD. EXCELLENT. OSCAR REALIZES
TREATS ARE THE WAY TO GO AND FINISHES THE AUDITION
WITHOUT A PEEP. VERY NICE. OKAY, LITTLE GUY. GOOD BOY. RIGHT HERE.
GOOD BOY! TONY'S JUST HAPPY TO HAVE
HIS BROTHER QUIETLY BY HIS SIDE. VERY NICE.
GOOD BOY! [ WHIMPERING ] IN THE 12 WEEKS
SINCE THEY WERE BORN, THE CHOW BOYS HAVE TRAVELED A
LONG ROAD TOWARDS THE SHOW RING. IT HASN'T ALWAYS BEEN EASY, BUT OSCAR AND TONY HAVE GROWN INTO WELL-TRAINED,
CONFIDENT, FUTURE SHOW DOGS, READY TO TROT THEIR WAY
TOWARDS SUCCESS. THIS MORNING,
THE RIDGEBACK PUPS AWOKE TO FIND AN ACTUAL LURE COURSE
IN THEIR OWN BACKYARD. SO FAR, SISTERS GEMMA AND CLOVER
HAVEN'T QUITE CAUGHT ON. NOW THEIR BROTHER, RUFUS, GETS
A CHANCE TO GIVE IT A WHIRL. IT DOESN'T TAKE LONG FOR RUFUS'
HUNTING INSTINCTS TO COME ALIVE. EVEN HIS SISTERS ARE IMPRESSED. IT'S BEEN A TOUGH DAY
OF HUNTING, AND THE RIDGEBACKS
ARE EXHAUSTED. IN THE 11 WEEKS
SINCE THEIR HUMBLE BEGINNINGS, PEANUT'S PUPS HAVE EVOLVED
INTO STRONG, RUGGED HUNTERS. SISTERS GEMMA AND CLOVER HAVE
BEEN INSEPARABLE SINCE BIRTH. THEIR BROTHER, RUFUS,
ON THE OTHER HAND, WAS ALWAYS A BIT LEFT OUT. [ SQUEALING ] BUT TODAY, RUFUS GOT TO SHINE AS HE ACED THE LURE COURSE
WITH EASE. AND IT LOOKS LIKE
HE FINALLY CONVINCED THE GIRLS THAT THREE
IS NOT ALWAYS A CROWD. [ BARKING ] [ WHIMPERING ] CAN'T GET ENOUGH CUTE?
