Chopping the Top on a Shoebox Ford: Chop Class with Joel Davis

laughs [Music] [Music] my my uncle and my dad always fed me model kits and hot rod magazines and all that stuff when I was a kid and then I started hanging out with the wrong folks and learned how to pinstripe and you know do other things and so that's that's how I ended up here my 40 Ford I ended up doing uh all the body work and paint and upholstery and everything on it it's definitely a high school hot rod but have you seen that one in person or not you haven't yet so anyway uh if you want to see it go to like Dewey next year do we will come over next year I'll have it there um that's a promise [Music] foreign [Music] don't worry about it guys I got Replacements you know and on Sunday I came back at three Sharpies and I made it all the way through the day with with all of them okay sure say hi from Joel so that's all you're out of body fans I got an out-of-body experience one time I'm having one this weekend yeah that's good [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign I've learned to use tools I've never laid hands on and enjoy that almost every minute of it sometimes they frustrated the hell out of me but I'm learning and I enjoyed it I mean I've done something today I've never done in my life and I'm pretty proud of it so yeah and yes I will be trying to take another class as from a body man's perspective and seeing the other chops that I've seen this is done in a way to minimize all of your body work to the bearish minimum that it can be I've took pictures of the different angles just to show how a little filler is going to be in any of the areas because I've seen it can get thick on on Shop jobs before taking one thing that impressed me is how simplified you took something that would be overwhelming and seemed like too much work for somebody and you really simplified it down to make it a lot more understanding and easier to do that's pretty impressive yeah this was just way out of my league just trying to visualize how this was going to come together I've never used an English wheel so pretty proud of everything I learned and of all the people we met yeah and the food was excellent yeah probably gained five pounds enjoyed and enjoyed all your help I appreciate everything you guys have done the guys I've met we'll see each other again yep that's the fun part about it too I really enjoy that I you know I might not remember you two years from now unless I see it within another year or two or whatever but if you say oh Tulsa class it'll it'll start clicking in my brain I just I meet a lot of people so if you ever see me around in the car show or something say hi this class is pretty neat because he lets everybody get their hands on it where a lot of people you watch them work the whole time kind of thing so I've picked up some stuff that makes sense that now that you see it and the way he chops it is the way I think it should be done too so it was just a neat experience and I feel like from this moment on the food aspect for all the classes makes them meet that standard yeah so it just got ratcheted up so um yeah I thought the price was good I was happy that it wasn't too far from the house that was awesome because I almost signed up for a class in death in Texas and I just need everybody's cool guys a lot of nice guys too bad we're all not neighbors we could do some uh make some really cool stuff but uh it is nice meeting his family but a bunch of nice people I appreciate all the work because I put on some things before and I realized how much effort it takes to do all that with the food I appreciate that uh and then I'd always see I'd watch you know like Bellows Customs or something and you see I'm putting panels up and hanging back windows it's kind of big you know basically like putting some mid-air in the beginning and put wrapping things around it and so that was really neat but I was surprised of uh how much work it takes on those slanted posts that was the surprising part of the build uh you know it always amazes me the whole fact of you know getting a group just different people together and just we have all have the same interests as far as I notice everybody got along great work together great and uh so that was definitely one of the the highlights to me I always enjoy getting together with different people talking hearing their experiences and everything about the class course learning the English well I've always I've been wanting to do that for a while that was one of the things that I made me want to sign up for the class uh I was glad you know it came so close to the house uh I thought I was gonna have to go to at least Oklahoma City or something like that to be able to sit there and do it um but definitely had a great weekend you know thank you Chris you know I've known you before this and everything like that but still I mean you know Hospitality always great you know first off great group of guys uh hope to see everyone again uh I learned a whole lot about the chopping aspect uh never thought I'd do a chopped car you want to do another one oh okay good yeah I'll definitely do another one this has made me want to get shoebox so I'll probably join the shoebox Club after this there's a few on Facebook it's a great time I mean it's my second class right first and I'm still kind of a zombie so you know I learned a lot this time that that I seen last time but didn't really get to participate in so much but my favorite part was like the sale panels back here if I missed out on that completely last time and that that really interesting how that just falls into place you know yeah that's what everybody says if this falls into place yeah but now the price is great that's why I'm back you know hope to do a third hope to do one at your place yeah exactly yeah a lot of classes I like to learn and this was a really good class to to learn and and get basic knowledge and advanced knowledge so I've been cutting on cars for 40 years so it's not like it's new to me but I've never done anything like that I've got an English will but I've never done anything like the cell panel before so um you know I've been around it and I've never done it this way so it was really awesome and price is great um I'm looking forward to doing something else another time and also a few thumbs up cool I'm talking about stock he's the first person that's ever explained stumbled home in a way that I could understand and talking about proportion and all that and style I think is one of the bigger things that I learned um and the other one is you guys have worked on those slanted posts my head's off because you guys took on such tedious work and worked so much on it you deserve a big round of applause as an instructor for six years I really liked his style and show you for a few minutes step aside and let you do it that's the way I tried to do when I was teaching Monty how do you feel about the class [Laughter] I'm usually behind the camera and not in front of it that's what I'm the most comfortable and uh probably my favorite thing was finding out that Mr milky in fact is a real living breathing human being and I thought it was just like something made up was it worth the wait for your whole life to finally take this class and if it costs twice the amount I probably would have taken it anyway nice the food was awesome I mean couldn't ask for better so uh really cool being with a bunch of guys all the same interest you get a bunch of hot rod guys together and it's going to be it's going to be good so anyway you get somebody Goofy on the camera it just makes it even more uh I like to say seriously about uh Joel of all the people I've ever met in my life he's one of them so [Laughter] peace out yeah [Music] thank you [Music]
