Chopping Silage John Deere 5400 | Farmer in the Boot

[Music] [Music] hey guys farmer in the booth so that's what we're doing we're chopping [Music] [Applause] so we bought a four row converging head and how this head works we're taking four rows of corn at a time and these knives down here it's hard to see these knives they go back and forth and cut the corn off at the stock and these belts go round and round and they grab the stock right here carry it up and feed it through the chopper once it starts feeding through the chopper the feed rolls grab it and then back here [Music] is your knives and they're spinning around and they shoot it underneath the cab and this fan blows it up and out into another wagon we're gonna get started here we gotta run and grab some parts and first i gotta sharpen the knives before we get going i only have one little tiny field left about 20 acres it'll probably take us all day though so we got to do that before we get started like earlier i was talking about these knives these are your knives that cut the uh stock this is your knife these knives here they get dull every now and then and you gotta sharpen them and there's a stone underneath here right right here and what i do i run that stone back and forth as this thing spins that's how i sharpen them okay so now that i got the knife sharpened i needed to adjust the shear bar which is this bit right here runs all the way across to the other side and there's a little behind this feed roll here the second one so this is the first feed roll here second feed roll in between the feed roll on the knives is a shear bar and that's what determines your length of cut now if i rotate these knives they should all move smoothly i shouldn't hear any nicks or anything if i hear nicks and i know that the knives themselves are hitting on the shear bar we don't want that i'll just wear them wear the shear bar and wear the knives you can tell these knives are nice and sharp now so once we get that buttoned up then we gotta adjust some gathering belts here and then we gotta put some ball joints on other than that we'll be ready to go okay so we're gonna start opening up this last field here it's only about it's only about 20 25 acres so we're gonna open it up what i mean by opening up is getting the headlamps off the end rows so that we can turn around without running any portal to do that i got to have a wagon behind me pulling shooting in so [Applause] [Music] [Applause] do [Music] [Applause] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] do [Music] so [Music] [Music] alright [Music] so [Music] what
