- Now looking back, I was like, I was so young, I could have done everything. I wasn't tired back then. I'm almost 50. I'm like, now I'm tired. Like, what were you thinking? Hi, I am Chloe Sevigny and today I'm going to
let Elle ask me anything. (clapperboard claps) I mean, it seems like
every trend from the 90s has come back, so it's
hard to pick one that. You really don't like, I can't remember what they even call 'em, like a soft floppy hat.
- Slouchy beanie? - Yes. And I feel like actors,
especially LA actors, love that look. I'm like, I don't want
to see a slouchy beanie. If I see a slouchy beanie, it's
the end of the world for me. (Chloe whispers)
- Oh, that's a complicated question. (Chloe laughs) I thought it was nice to
see that Gypsy Rose had come to New York and was enjoying Times Square and enjoying her life. I mean, she grew up with so
much suffering and I mean, what her mother, you know, did to her is just shocking and appalling. And I don't even have words for it. So I'm glad that she is
learning how to own herself and finding some joy and love in life. Oh, she's still guilty
of murder, but yeah. Other than that. A Gen Z fashion trend that I love. I like the fluidity. I like, you know, the boys
and girls, the girls and boys. I kind of, you know, I think that that's my favorite part of the new generation coming
up that kind of anything goes. I feel like you can see people
on the carpet wearing things and it's not criticized anymore. There's more openness,
there's more freedom, there's more acceptance. And I think that that's great. My favorite Ryan Murphy show besides Feud: Capote versus the Swans is probably the first season
of American Horror Story. I was terrified, terrified,
shocked, surprised, couldn't like walk into
the other room alone. Like I was shook by that show. I had no idea that's where I was going. And haunting ghosts are
definitely something that I've always been very
scared of and believe in. And so I will say that first
season really shook my world. Which celebrities do I look
to for fashion inspiration? The way Hunter Schafer
owns herself on the carpet. I think she really balances
modern cuts with this, like a classical elegance. I think that she really, I mean she's like a supermodel
and she pulls everything off, but I think her red carpet and casual style is really inspiring. It's funny, I was also
watching just like that. If I had to pick one, I
mean, can I say Carrie? I guess so. I don't know. Weirdly, I've never asked myself who I am. Maybe, I'm more Miranda. Probably. The coaster I would least
like to get into a feud with is probably Diane Lane. She's kind of a tough broad. I have a feeling she could
make you feel pretty unwelcome and unwanted and I feel like
a little more intimidated by her than the others between
you and I and the internet. (Producer laughs)
- [Producer] Perfect. (Chloe laughs) - My favorite part of 1960s fashion. It was just like such an opening. It was such a times changed and there was such freedom of expression. For me, I'm kind of known for my legs, so a mini with like a boot. But I think it's more also just hair. I love hair. I love very big hair. And I think like just that
everyone kind of just let it go. Probably my favorite. I dunno if it's really fashion,
more, it's more beauty. I think one of my roles
is the most underrated. Maybe it was in Russian Doll,
my friend Natasha Leone show. I play her mother who's
suffering from schizophrenia. And it's a small part, but very poignant and I don't think that I got enough notices for that for what I did in that show. I tend to get a lot of
advice from other actors. I think one of the best
is compare and despair. I think 'cause you so often
are seeing other actresses, get parts, run your own race. I know everybody's gonna have
their time to do their thing. My favorite co-star in my career thus far is probably Jeanne
Tripplehorn on Big Love. She played the older sister
wife Barb, and we just gelled. I don't know, we were
both really into music. We had a really fun time on set. I used to go and stay at her house. She would just really take care of me. We shot out west. I lived in New York and she
really became this like sister, mother figure. And I'll always cherish
how much she took care of me out there. I'm trying to think of the most
embarrassing on-set mishap, I think is always not knowing lines. I remember once I did the Mindy Project and for some reason I could
not get these lines out and like, I started crying. I got like, and they were
so in the flow of it, it's like, you know,
it was a great sitcom, and they've been doing it for years and they had this rapport. And I came in and I was like, I'm only here for these couple days. And I couldn't get it out. I was so embarrassed. I wanted to just like
crawl into whatever kind of trailer I had at the
time and never come out. And it is just very
frustrating, embarrassing, when you have so little to do
and you can't seem to do it. There were so many roles for my career, so many great filmmakers
that approached me, wanting to be in their
films, notably John Waters. And I always regret that because I'm such a huge John Waters fan. And there was something
about like, the timing. This French filmmaker, Claire Deni, wanted me to be in something who was one of my favorite directors. And I just remember like when
those offers were made to me, I don't know, the timing
just seemed wrong. And now looking back, I was like, I was so young,
I could have done everything. It wasn't tired back then. I'm almost 50. I'm like, now I'm tired. Like, what were you thinking? (Producer laughs) So I'm still like,
(Chloe clicks tongue) oh, well. If I had to live anywhere
other than New York, I always say if New York fell off, I would move to Pittsburgh. I've shot there a few times and you know, they call it the Paris of Appalachia. The last place I would
wanna live is Los Angeles. Sorry. I feel like there's a lot of driving. I feel like it's very isolating. I find it very bright. I find the sunshine monotonous. I don't like how dry it is. I don't like how hard the water is. I don't like, it's a town built around
the industry that I work in. It makes me feel very self-conscious and uncomfortable in my own skin. I don't like the terrain, I don't like the vegetation, (Chloe laughs) Sorry. My go-to hype song. Usually it's like my go-to cry song. But if I had a hype song right now I have a three and a half year old. So sorry to say it's kind
of let it go right now. I mean, he's really into Frozen. He is like, "Mom, this is the Jam." The last show I binge watched
since Fargo, Gilded Age, which I feel like has a lot of parallels to Feud, Capote and The Swans. You know, there's a lot
of women who lounge around and gossiping and
setting dinners and yeah, I weirdly became obsessed with Gilded Age. I also love Cynthia Nixon, always. Who would I bring dead or alive to Capote? Well, Capote, I think they were all vying, all the swans were vying to be
the guest of honor, actually. And there's a scene in our
show where he tells me, you know, I'm not the guest of honor, and Cz is very like, heartbroken. She thought it was gonna be her. So, yeah, of course I'd want
to be there with Capote. Thanks for watching Elle. Tune in for Capote versus The Swans on FX streaming on Hulu. (whimsical playful music)
