hello I'm JW this time got some wire connectors to have a look at and here's an example are that one of them and you may be thinking explain but that company could weigh go but these are not made by them or they've had anything to do with them these are direct from China and are made of solid Chinese ium and we also got some of these things which again also drip from China so who knows how good or bad they might be and they come in a variety of various shades and colors we've got this one here which has got this sort of there's three shades on there and all kinds of other weird things which we'll have a look at in a minute now I'd say these were been ported directly from China do they work well we'll have a look which I use these in a proper installation well of course the answer is no because even if these proved to be fairly nice and fine probably importing stuff like this yourself is they've got no idea what the quality is going to be like even if by so much you're okay you might then buy some next week which turned out to be a load of old junk and of course if you put these in somewhere then they melt and still someone's house sets on fire and then of course that you are the one to blame so not the kind of thing I'd recommend to use in any real installation but so we can have a look at these anyway just see what they like and maybe destroy a few as well for a bit of fun later on so there's what got a fair selection of these things and say these come in a variety of rather odd shapes some of these are off c copies from the sort of official ones but these and things like the most definitely not because on most of these say like this style just question of three wires in here and then all three are common together with the metal you can see underneath there but these style are somewhat more unusual in that it's only connected through from one side to the other so in theory you could have say line neutral earth on this side and line you have over there which would basically just connect two cables together and similarly with the orange one we've got here not really sure why they've got these colors here because we've got orange yellow and blue and certainly in the UK those are never standard colors you could get red yellow and blue at one time but obviously orange isn't red and those colors when I use fifteen odd years ago these orange ones are the same so basic got four here and four there which connected across but not actually connected together and these are black body it for some reason they're these ones here which even more bizarre we got blue and red which just kind of might be blue and brown but not really and then these things which are even worse where we've got the black blue and brown but it's not brown it's actually red so again bit of a strange choice and the black doesn't really fit with anything either so I've got a variety of these and they've also got these things which are obviously intended to mount on a rail so just clips on to the rail there and I got a single wire the top single out the bottom so just connect the two together now these ones are the sort of leaver variety so we've got the leavers here and then you just place the wire into the terminal hole there and then they leave in I pass this down and we'll secure that in place and they did grip on decently well also don't need any a particular problem with that the leaves themselves are rather sort of gun G and when they're in this position they're not the entirely sort of level they're they you can't oppress them so they level but they do have a certain amount of slop in them so quality is certainly not the best there and they are surprisingly stiff in times of opening so they'll probably work that definitely not sort of thing I would personally use on a proper installation three-way ones here getting pretty much the same although these can have an issue where the levers don't always stay in the up position now again it's just three wise they're always common together on the metal there on the back and again and put the wire into this one again we'll find it's properly secures out there so particular problem with those and say these sir turning a nice snap to them you can say that's common through at the back and they do have a little hole on the back here particularly if where you can put a test probe in there to check the voltage or whatever so it's very reasonable looking so the problem is no real knowing whether these are going to melt set on fire or do who knows what this style is certainly something else entirely because unlike these where they're all common together and also the style of these we just get the half where they're all common together these three are not common that's basically one across two across and three across so the idea being you could take your wire place that in the hole here and again it grips on decently well and then you could take another wire and then link across in that fashion so you just go up straight through now this would appear to be a fairly limited use item because sensually all you're gonna have to do is connect say a three core cable line neutral nerve to another one line Neutron Earth with nothing else because these are designed for a single wire only so although they might appear very useful and handy the outset there aren't really that many circumstances where you're just going to want to connect three individual wires to three other individual wires perhaps in a light fitting or something maybe but fairly limited to use thing and then they've got these black ones with four which seems even worse cuz only just got simply for going across they're quite well they're black and not the other colors it's really not known and they asked for the other colors I've got here certainly a strange selection of them but essentially all go across like that now one possible problem here is that inside of course they're clearly some kind of plastic separation but what sort of voltage separation we got between the individual pieces because of course on this style it does actually matter because they're all connected together all the same voltage so it's just between the you know and then the insulated outer but these ones you puts a line here on earth here you're gonna have the 230 volts between it or who use on say a three phase circuit there could be I'll say 400 volts between those so we'll do a little test here just to see what kind of voltage it will withstand between any two of these points now to start with I'll just do the test it would do normally on a typical electrical installation just connected to wires here so one in each of the terminals though blue and the yellow in that case but shouldn't make any real difference to Y's here so just connect these to the clips we've got here and we're gonna use this mega MF to 1741 now we have started the voltage of 500 which is the normal voltage you'd use if you were testing a 230 volt installation and we should see that the resistance between this is pretty much as high as this thing goes so let's have a look yeah so there we go so great to 999 mega ohms and test voltage of 5 or 6 so that certainly is fine and pretty much what you'd expect now this does go out of course the thousand volts so let's try that as well why not wouldn't normally use thousand volts on that but bear in mind that these should be entirely separate so it definitely should cope with that now just a warning there because obviously a thousand volt is somewhat dangerous you put your fingers there but again it's greater than 999 1102 volts has been applied so no problem with that either and again that's pretty much what you'd expect no of course that's not really good enough because let's see what level these things would actually fail so what we can use is this device up on the shelf here which I can't actually show in shop with this at the same time as the other but seen it before and essentially this can generate voltages of somewhat more than that we've got a 1250 option most interesting here we've got the 3000 option and also the 750 option so turn that on there now this isn't the actual intended use for this machine but it will do the job in this particular case so what we wanted a to do is to connect this wire here which we normally connected to the metal parts of the equipment now he's actually connected through to the earth pin on the appliance there and then we'll connect the other end to this and the other end happens to be this high voltage Pro because also going to be touching that with 3000 volts at the end of it and say though this is not normally how it's done it generally checks between the pins in the plug and obvious it does actually work if we connect it to the lead there as well so what we'll do then is to turn this on and then just pro way at the end of this know if it's doesn't rip it makes a rather horrible noise so we'll cut down the volume of that obviously that's sir and let's see what we've got so just check the 12 3000 volt option to start with now that's not actually a tripping a device you can a bit of sparking there at space you do capacitance between the two wires there let's turn up to the three 750 so again that hasn't actually trip to either so that regard that is actually a pass one thing we can do is just to probe over the device itself and just see what kind of intonation we've got between the wire the outer covering I think for that we just connect both ends to the I'm sure lead there and again we use three seven fifty yeah and again that Stein there's no short leakage there now let's try this transparent one again just got the parts between the red and black there so again we'll just prove there was a three 750 mm because why not so it seems fine and if it's go over the device itself get not a problem with that and I've got this two-way one this is just orange and blue for whatever reason and why that 3 750 so again that's fine so they do seem to actually pass the test there even at that well that high voltage and just to demo what this sounds like when the thing actually does fail when there's also some kind of connective path through there I'll just have it drill onto the wire this does make a bit of a noise so headphone people might want to be removing them so there we go what a horrible sound now I detest all of the versions we've got here in the various sizes and styles and they all did pass at that 37 50 volts so there is decent insulation between the various parts you can see here the conductors just go straight through mostly three of them on the example we got here so in that regard they do seem to work although they I'm not really sure what the actual use case for these would be other than just joining two completely separate cables together and on the back of these they are actually marked L and n on some of these this to a one who's on port just has a and n2 pressed into the plastic nurses or suggest the usage the L being the blue one and the N being orange so not entirely sure what the deal with that is this here's another example the same one and it's the same way round so line is blue apparently and whichever country they're supposed to be used in this one here also marked Elenin on the back and L is blue and in is red in that case so mmm there we go this three-way one he's actually marked as well so good Ln n so it's L & N and middle is not marked so use it for whatever you like and then there's black one isn't actually marked with anything it's got some symbols here which are certainly not or in this one does tell us the ratings apparently 32 amps 250 volts or 600 and the size of wire point oh eight to four millimeters squared so there you go and this one again it's got various market on there and it does have Ln N printed in this particular case L is orange and n is blue and then the other one is for whatever else you wish to use now let's take one apart and see what's got inside so let's have a go at this black one they appear to just clip together from two separate components so hopefully they will on the clip relatively easily just go in there and see we can no pry it open and of course these things aren't designed to be opened once manufactured but no less we can get in there and those bits of plastic away and try the side also that's gonna make it seems to be a fairly soft material that's certainly not a lot of sort of any glass fiber reinforcements or anything else in there but then of course I wouldn't generally need that anyway so there we go then to the top with the coated levers you see one component they say they just hinge in the thing there so as you lift it it's pressing down on the piece below and then the pieces below here they are so against just four individual contacts there and then in the default state its gripping onto the wire and then that orange lever presses down when you raise that because provides you a hole to insert the wiring from either end so here's one of the contacts from inside and it's three pieces of metal they're not actually welded or fixed together in any way other than the spring tension so we've got a copper normally two copper colored bar at the bottom and then the two still colored spring pieces which bears a grip around the wire there so that's in the closed position and then the wire would actually go underneath the copper where that gap is just sort of opening up there and then of course it pulls up and pinches the wire between the copper one and then the spring on the top and and again the other side off things like the same just in Reverse there so it's got a fairly decent sized piece of metal in the bottom there so it shouldn't be a problem with that and say in terms of the spring action that is a very powerful spring they're very difficult to actually press that with fingers so yeah that seemed to be perfectly suitable and for the actual plastic molding you can see there are distinct channels for each of the four conductors or four contacts just places down in there so there's no actual gap between them there's not a huge amount of space between the solve the metal and the plastic there again when the top is on that'll be held down in position by the pieces here anyway so it's not as if he's going to sort of move once they're in as those bits there would secure it in place and go over the top like that so there is a decent amount of separation between them obviously it is just a piece of plastic but generally that's what you've got on those wires and cables any have any one it's just the only PVC insulation over the copper wires that are next to each other Tony contacts do just drop out in that particular thing with lid off that say obviously it's got those pieces there to secure them in when it's actually fully assembled here's one of the transparent ones these seem to be a different type of plastic it's so brittle it's more like polycarbonate or something along those lines the other ones they were soft probably the like PVC or something but similar kind of construction they're got the three components although the bottom piece on these is the same shiny silver colour so not copper or copper colored that principle is exactly the same it's just the two springs one on each side and the solid bond and eath and then your Y would go underneath there when it's pressed and then it's else he pulls up and grips onto it and they loose in the bottom got that same division between the various compartments so again there's not a problem with anything there and the top Peters just be able to leave us in which when moved obviously pressed down onto the spring and opened a hole there so again pretty much so design but I have more sort of crunchy type of polycarbonate type plastic so there's a look at a few of these Chinese idiom connectors and they're not actually terrible I mean they would probably do the job and know that work as intended so a big problem with these things is that if we're gonna buy these in from China yourself if anything goes wrong with you isn't it caught if someone helps to burn down then of course that you are the person who's liable for that not to the Amanar in China which is why I wouldn't recommend using these in a actual installation certainly an easy at the proper ones because in the case of those if there's a problem with it and it improves to be the product at fault then the manufacturer of course it's the one on the hook for that and generally would expect things so many reps for manufacture to be consistent in their actual quality in whatever else so they buy this from China they could be decent ones like these all the very next lot could the total load of old rubbish because the factory decided to cheap an out on certain parts of them so certainly interesting items that I would not recommend those for use that it's just something unique temporary yourself or whatever else so not if at this time until next time thanks for watching
