when i first drove up and there were two dogs right there what's up guys persephone he was by the entrance and then follow me up somebody said hey there's a situation out here in the desert you think you can check it out they had some kind of makeshift food containers makeshift water containers all empty this was peak summer it was about 114 degrees that day and that's when i was like okay i got to do something about this so i went bought some 40 gallon water troughs for them so i created feeding stations i ended up going every other day what's up mamas where's your buddy for stephanie would be at the gate when i showed up she knew my truck so i pull up and follow me up [Music] what's up guys you ready for some floaters are you ready for some food you're in front of the floors but when i poured the food almost all got within 5-10 feet of me and just waited until i stepped back a few feet guys after that and she just looked at me kind of ran off over time she would get closer and closer and closer so they just came all the way out way farther than they have ever come before persephone her crew they would meet me way down on the road and then kind of run up what's up ahead they're following me i would toss her treats eventually i got it to where she was eating out of my hands [Music] but she would never let me pet her it's okay her body language was like man i want it but she was still very scared she's the only one following me right now because i've been here for a while already i remember reaching my hand out and she pulled back but she stopped and she thought about it for a second it doesn't quite let me pet her yet but that's okay horse old man one day we were walking they were on my heels i kneel down and i hold my hand out and she comes up that's a good girls you almost wanna let me pet you huh my god i'm petting her oh my god oh my god this is amazing i don't want to cry that took probably about seven months that was kind of the moment that she decided that you're okay oh my god i seriously have tears in my eyes right now because her letting me pet her after her and i had that connection every time she would let me pet her [Music] one day she just laid on her side and let me pet her belly good girl and after probably about two or three weeks white knight who is another one of her crew he decided this is cool let's see what this is about i mean it was always hard to leave him but after her and i had that connection it was really something special hopefully we're going to be able to transition her to being with me full time it's been a struggle trying to find a place for them to go it's very hard when you throw in the added complication of i can't just trap one dog because they're in a pack that's the only way they're surviving in the middle of the desert is safety in numbers esteban he reached out to me and he really desperately needed help finding fosters and coordinating what to do with these dogs but it's not easy to find fosters for large dogs that have been deserted in the desert for years and once everything was 100 set we got everything set up we went up there so what i'm going to do is i'm going to go put their food in there but i'm hopeful if that i put the food in there and walk away fingers crossed everything went as smooth as it could have gone [Music] and we put them in the truck i just kind of breathe this sigh of relief like they're safe [Music] yeah she's a hundred percent cutie she's a little lap dog [Music] she's definitely a special one for me [Music] so out of the 12 we actually have seven rescued there's only five remaining i came to realize there were two distinct packs persephone was the ringleader of one of the packs and then the pack of five of which are currently still out there so now the challenge is finding not necessarily one person that can take all five but finding a few people that we can get them all taken at the same time [Music] i'm happy with the progress that we've made and i'm happy that i've been able to save the ones that i've been able to save i'm going to keep fighting i'm going to keep doing what i'm doing i just want to give them as much as possible [Music] what's up guys hanging out [Music] you
