what's up guys it's tyler today we are here talking about the top five mods for your two two two four cobalt all right so as always i'm gonna start this top five mods video out with maintenance first thing you should do before you mount any car is just general maintenance make sure your brakes are good make sure your craft's not clunking around nobody likes to get in a car that clunks and bumps down the road and you have to diagnose that before or after getting your mods get everything in check before starting your mods with the uh two two and two four cobalts you know we're kind of the underdogs behind me i've got my 2007 cobalt i've had this for six or seven years now and it's actually what got me started in the zzp i was a customer and then here i am so uh with these cars because they are an underdog and because they're n a you're you're starting at a lower point you know you're you've got a couple passes you can take so my advice to start is have your expectations out in front of you and kind of plan what you want for your build before going at it biggest thing here is 2005 and 2006 two two guys unfortunately there's just no tuning support so if you know that going into the car you know you might just use it as your daily driver and toss a couple mods on and and call it a day but 2007 up cars or any of the two four cars are fully tunable through hp tuners so whether you want to stay in a or go boosted down the line you can do that so once your expectations are set you know you've decided okay this is going to be my daily and i want to do a couple fun things to it or this is going to be a race car and you know you can take it either way this has been my daily for six years and it's never let me down i've modded it it's it's been a fun car and they can be or you can go the total opposite direction uh and you can build a 400 wheel horsepower supercharged g5 that kills everything on the street [Music] so once you have that expectation ready and in front of you and you know you have your plan set out then it makes modding a little easier you don't have to do things a couple times you know i've redone the suspension on this car five times and if i would have went back i would have just stuck with the coilovers from the beginning so with all that said let's get into your top five mods mod number one and i'm going to do this a little differently than our typical top five mod videos is going to be suspension not a specific product but just suspension in general you know the base models they sit pretty high they've got uh some small wheels they've got crappy tires they're not a super fun handling car out of the box so that's why i say start off with suspension you know it's something that everyone will enjoy you don't have to slam it real low uh but there's a few key things that you can do fe 5 control arms we have those on our site those come from the higher level cobalts those are great mod for anyone sway bars front and rear i've had the rear sway bar on my car for years and it handles great i've had no need to put the front one on but some people like that as well and then it's going to be addressing the shocks and springs so like i said the base cobalt sit pretty high so if you want something with a mild drop do uh you know our kybs and zdp springs that gives you a nice two two and a half inch drop over stock you're not gonna be scraping banging oil pans everywhere but it's a it's a nice compromise and like i said it'll make the car really fun or you can go with a full coilover setup you know like i said that's that's what i have on my car now i've had the bcs on for years and i leave them at the same height all winter i drive it all winter i drive it all summer it's it's great it's a perfect height you know i could go a little lower but i think suspension is something that every base model guy should address and i think it's going to make your car a lot more fun my number two is going to be exhaust this is a big one that we get a lot of questions about and you know the the two twos and two fours they can sound pretty good but you gotta pick your exhaust mods correctly uh with any of the ecotec cars you don't need three inch guys uh 90 of you don't need a three inch exhaust you know if you're making 400 wheel then you sure you probably do but for guys like us making mid hundreds you know you don't need a three inch exhaust so my recommendation would be our shorty header our two and a half inch downpipe and our two and a half inch catback with resonator and muffler like i said i've been running the same setup for years and it sounds awesome it's probably one of the best sounding cobalts around [Music] not to humble brag or anything but no it's just a good solid setup it's got some good tone it's got good volume it doesn't drone at all from there you know if you just decide to go supercharge down the line you might want to upgrade your header setup you know be it a mid length or a long tube but again this is why i say plan your build from the beginning if you know you're going to go supercharged and you want to buy the long tubes at the beginning before you do the supercharger kit then do that you know it's not going to hurt the car you're just going to lose a little power down low mod number three is gonna be intake the the stock intake for the two two and two four honestly really isn't that bad the big choke point is going to be the intake tube itself the air box flows quite well actually so we have a replacement intake tube it's nice aluminum powder coated looks great and then pair that with a canon drop-in filter and honestly that's all you need two two guys you can swap the 2-4 intake manifold on that doesn't require any tuning if you retain your same throttle body it kind of shifts the power band a little it gives you a little extra horsepower but you know again nothing massive but it does help two four guys like i said same thing drop-in filter and an intake tube that's really all you need mod number four is going to be what you all expected is boosting the car na can only get you so far on the ecotecs unfortunately they don't make a ton of power you know they can be plenty fun i rip around on this all day and get 30 miles a gallon you know sometimes it's more fun to drive a slow car fast not a fast car fast so i've been totally happy with this and you may be too but if you do want that little extra boost over n a you're looking at two routes you can go supercharged or turbocharged we have a bolt-on kit for both the supercharger kit uses an m62 and lsj intake manifold the rest of the components are in the kit you can bolt it right up and it's a it's a pretty hefty jump over stock you know you're looking low mid 200s depending on what fuel fuel you choose etc if you want even more than that and the biggest thing is going to be torque then you might want to look into going turbocharged we have our 2224 turbocharger kit that uses a stock ko4 which is a smaller turbo but especially on these cars that have a little more displacement over the 2 liters spool is nearly instant and you're going to make a ton of torque i mean it's pretty impressive n a you're not making a ton of power mid 100s high 100s if you're really pushing it but you know a ko4 car properly set up will will surprise you and then from there you can build off the kit because it uses a ko4 manifold you can run our 6758 our 7163 our z54 our z57 any of those they're all going to bolt on now caveat with those you are going to need forged internals unfortunately while the engines are great and they can last a long time i'm at 180k on this uh when you're making power they're likely going to break sad day but if you plan ahead of time and know that that may be on the horizon then you know you might be able to set another block aside but realistically low 200s is kind of the breaking point on the two twos uh the older two fours oh 506 you can get a little bit further into the 200s but really especially on a ko4 car you're going to be making a ton of torque and torque is what bends rods so plan ahead like i said if you want to make three 400 horsepower you can do it the sport's there but you're gonna have to take apart your engine tear it down go through it put some forged goodies in it etc mod number five uh this goes without saying on any of our cars is gonna be a pcm tune so whether your na supercharge turbocharged you needed to you know even on the na cars like i said you're not breaking horsepower records but the tune totally changes how it drives uh my car's in auto uh sad but the tune still helped immensely i came and got dyno tuned here four year four or five years ago now and uh it woke up the car quite a bit you know i had done all my supporting n a mods and it didn't make a ton of power but they were able to change the ship points around you know change some line pressures it drove a lot sportier so you know your manual cars are gonna make more power than my auto did but uh the tune is definitely worth it super vancouver charger guys you will have to get a tune you just can't run the car without a tune so this is where the oh 506 two two guys you gonna have to step aside get another car you know uh we get the question a lot i have an o5 cobalt it has a 2-2 what can i do to tune it there's just no options unfortunately hp tuners never supported it and at this point they're not going to so throw your exhaust mods on have a good daily driver and then buy a mod car so yeah that's uh a pretty quick overview you know they're like i said they're the two two two fours have plenty of potential you're starting a little lower than the 20 cars do because you're n a but uh they can be a lot of fun you know like i said i've had this car for years it's never let me down they're still a great platform it handles great it drives great gets good gas mileage it just set your expectations and have fun
