cheapest way to make power welcome to Hot Rod Garage presented by lincoln tech we're back in the shop now with our project bone marrow that is our low buck drag project to 1979 Camaro that we bought put an LM 7 LS base truck engine into last episode and got it running around 300 horsepower for about $4,900 total today when do something much more fun and we are going to double horse ride this thing by adding an gnarly cheap cheap turbo setup turbo yes and boosted to the moon to the moon to moon were actually gonna do cam valve spring and head gaskets and head bolts so this thing can actually handle some serious boost so we can make sure we're making a ton of power before it explodes into the stratosphere nice explodes yeah let's get started do it man we are braking the engine down this LM7 53 iron block LS base truck engine we are going to pull the camshaft out we're gonna do a valve springs we're gonna do head gaskets and head bolts on this thing so we have got a broken them pretty far like Luck is going to organize the rockers coming off and then we'll pull their heads off have access it cam yank the cam out start putting the good stuff back in here so everybody knows that LS motors are stout it last forever and you can find them anywhere before you throw some serious boost this thing going to a couple of key upgrades that will allow us to make some serious power it now because we want to keep this thing cheap cheap cheap we're only doing really bare-bones to just about make this thing hold together we're gonna put in a LS6 stock Chevrolet cam shaft higher lift should make more power we're going to put in ls9 multi-layer head gasket they should hold more boost we're going to do some stiffer pac-12 18 valve springs a set of larger eighty-pound Siemens injectors and just hold everything together advil and last but not least we're gonna install this team performance will raise the clearance of the oil pan itself because they hang weight alone there were also going to install a boss for the turmoil drain while we have it out things you look for in a camp for a charge engine usually high lift another time overlap overlaps bad and a forced induction engine and it keeps the same time and you just put that was read out the exhaust so this is an ls6 can usually a stock doesn't have much overlap that's true here just a lot of lift its gonna let a lot of air in its gonna keep it in kansas also has close of this will be perfect and it's really affordable so we put in here I don't know you bought them I did buy this these are pac-12 18 valve springs there are three hundred and thirteen pell mell springs they will allow up to six hundred thousands of lifting your camshaft current about 550 CNN nice save range that's gonna let a ton more air into the engine under boost valve springs make the valves were turned back up in the head and when they're not being pushed down by the camshaft turbo also you need a little more pressure setting it seemed a bit stronger than the stock ones and if you look really close you can see that there's a big gap in there that will allow more lift before they have what's called club on its knees and start to touch each other and you run out of travel by going to do is get a fancy dress like this has actually kind of low-budget mechanical ones were not using that just set it all up make sure you have something holding a valve into the head and then you can push down apply pressure to the spring retainers and that they will just pop off without it is a fancy chilling out here and that valve spring compressor is nice to know we have those new bells ring put in the head and get this thing kinda cleaned up now you start assembling everything and then we can start to get terrible so we're going to use forehead gathers a nice cheap upgrade using stock ls9 Chevy it gets confusing run about 50 bucks apiece they're nice five layer multi layer metal gasket so they could hold a lot of boost totally worth the money totally worth the money fifty budget still gotta buy two and these things look mediocre so we're good thanks to sell got this diagram when referred to the Internet tell China a few years ago would have to put on any thought that doing a really cheap it's gonna blow up it's just not going to work it's not worth the risk now something is happening last year's and a seven-year-old to fill these things over and China have really stepped their game up these things aren't actually pretty useful or I will now make a ton of power and above all they are dirt cheap I'm has a crossover played that means and merges all of the Aussie gather that's over here and the turmoil and the wastegate on it so we need to make sure this thing works and fits right so even though these motor mounts are the perfect tool for the correct application we here at the Hard Raj choose to do things in an orthodox manner we have done is taken the Holly motor mount play that a pie cut open that up which is raised their motor moved to played in move this down but without changing the with this in theory should just raise the motor and maintain the geometry for the motor mount bolt been fighting with like five hours you can see we had to cut the flange office thing little angle on and well it all back together we probably should have just grabbed some stock manifolds made our own Y pipe but we did well with a much more work to be fun I'm really do a lot of work on these parts that we hope to have it but they did and obviously a marijuana still rather a little bit different goes into a turbocharged VA and you can tell to manifold and downpipe waste a pipe all this stuff and we're modifying a truck kit to fit on this car there's been a ton of cutting measuring and welding or cutting and welding the measuring but we're pretty close to tell us it's about here I think that's closed off tomorrow mostly at the parts that came into truck kit and we're able to rework any
