Cheap Amazon Green Screen Kits (Fancierstudio 2000 watt lighting kit and 10X12 green screen)

what's going on guys Andrew here with Friffy Films and today we're gonna talk about cheap green-screen kits let's check it out right now what's going on you crazy rascals Andrew here with Friffy Films I am your host and similar to the good Lord at the pearly gates I'd like to welcome you to another episode of assessing the situation today as you know we are doing some green screening there are plenty of options on Amazon when it comes to green-screen kits but are any of them good I'll be honest I haven't worked a lot with green screens as I just haven't had a reason to but that's all gonna change today a green screen is typically used to film or photograph a particular subject so you can later go in and remove or key out the background you can remove any solid color but typically the most common used are green and blue screens if your subject has green in their costume or clothing it's probably best to use a blue screen in that scenario and vice-versa if your subject is the same color as the backdrop you'll have more difficulty keying that out later it can be done but you'd be creating more unnecessary work for yourself now while these green screen kits are fairly cheap I do have to say that I have one major problem with pretty much all of them and that is that they are not green screen kids they pretty much are a green screen back draft also with the 3-point lighting system for your subject so if you do not have any additional lighting I'm thinking I would find it difficult to light everything evenly and pull a good key out of what's just given in these kits but like I said it was very cheap and you get what you pay for guys that's what she said I honestly got this a few months back specifically just to use for the AK light boom stand that came with it I figured it was so cheap and what the heck I'll just get a whole green screen kit so without further ado let's get right into it alright let's open this sucker up I have here today the fancier Studio 2000 watt a lighting kit with the 10 by 12 foot green screen upon opening this kit I must say that everything about this immediately feels cheap even the bag that's used I used a butter knife to open the original packaging just to get the tape open and I literally cut a little slice into the top the bag I guess it's my own dumb fault but it really was easy to do that but no biggie it's just the bag I suppose we have the exceptionally large green screen material a couple stands for the back trap the larger bulb for the backlight and the normal sized bulbs for the others I've already pulled out and set up two of the three lights but the kit came with everything as advertised two softbox setups for your key and fill light one larger softbox set up for your backlight or a hair light I'll show you one as if you can set this one up screw in some light bulbs and put it on a stand the others are essentially the same thing but like I said this kit came with everything as advertised it came with all the bulbs that it needed the individual ballasts for each light I've heard of a lot of people receiving broken bulbs but mine were all good when they came in which was surprising and exciting the stands with the bolt ends on top with the washers and wing nuts are the stands that hold up your backdrops crossbar the stands for your lights come with the standard light adapter ends once you unwrap your stands from their shipping plastic you can begin setting up and I'll say it again these stands and basically all the hardware and these kits feel very very cheap just be mindful of this fact when you're using your equipment so you don't ruin your stuff I could easily see one of these knobs or even a section of a stand being snapped if it cranked too hard so just handle with care' and make sure things are snug but not insanely tight light stands or any kinds of stands rather are at their most stable when their crossbars are I guess parallel with the ground once your stand is good to go you can now simply insert the light with the light mount attachment on the softbox ballast there are holes to mount the light both vertically and horizontally simply place on top of the stand and tighten the knob remember not too tight you can also loosen and adjust the top knob on the light mount so you can tilt your light in any desired direction plug in the power cable flip the switches and you're in business okay now let's put one of these soft boxes together shall we you'll find in the kit that each softbox setup comes with two layers of diffusion I would use both because the bulbs are pretty strong and they really kind of shine through pretty harsh without that second layer plus you really want nice even diffused lighting if you're going to be lighting the green screen these hotspots are no bueno the material of the box on the soft box is probably the highest quality item in this kit and I say that with quotations because even so it still doesn't really feel premium inside the light bag you'll find your flexible metal rods you'll need these to put your light together you'll also need a ballast each ballast is covered with holes along the perimeter these will be used as guides where you will then insert the metal rods this part is a little tricky but just take your time one at a time and you got this man in each corner of the softbox there's a small black sewn piece of velcro there should be a hole right underneath the velcro portion where you will need to insert each of the four rods that's what she said sort of hard to find that first but it's there continue this same step for the remaining rods once the rods are inserted you are now ready to introduce the ballast into the mix while trying to keep the ballast in the direction you want it to be in in relationship to the light now direct each of the four rods into its corresponding hole they should fit fairly snug and as you pop each one in the softbox should get a little tighter and tighter until it all sort of holds itself open and together there are some velcro strips along the ballast side of the softbox be sure to press and close firmly to reduce spill from the back of your light now we're cooking with gas before putting the diffusion in let's put in some light bulbs unbox and unfold olbes if you know what I mean I don't know why I said that I just want to take the light bulb out of the phone righty-tighty lefty-loosey y'all and remember snug but not insanely tight next is your two layers of diffusion the first is attached on the inside of the softbox on the four corners of the box there are small white strips of velcro attached each velcro strip with the metal rod being caught in between the two sides and it should be held up like this and the next one is even easier as it sort of comes inside out ready to be velcroed and flipped around there is a black strip of velcro in the center of each side of the box simply press down and unfold the diffuser right side out and now you should have a light this will melt in the same way as the others and you'll have the option to mount it either horizontally or vertically oh and let's not forget about the backlight this basically goes together the same exact way with the exception that the ballast is a little different and it only has one giant size light bulb I did however want to show you the boom arm which seriously is the main race why I even got this kit in the first place unfortunately though you get what you pay for like I said and it feels very very cheap the stand that came with this to hold it up works okay but I'm using a beefier one from newer I'll leave some links and everything down below it is nice that you can balance out the weight with the sandbag attachment it came with I just filled it with some rocks and that seems to do the trick balancing the stand is crucial you know if you want the light to stay up the cord has a clickable switch to turn the light on or off I wish that was a little lower on the cord especially with the backlight as I found myself having to keep raising and lowering the lights when I wanted it on or off the boom mount can also be adjusted on the stand up or down this piece I especially don't think is a good idea to crank down too hard on it truly feels like it's gonna snap every time I use it but so far so good again righty-tighty lefty-loosey with this and you sort of use both sides of the mount to adjust either the height on the stand or how far the boom arm sticks out with the light when you can let go of the light and it stays in place while the mount is loose then you know it's balanced a little pro tip it's always good to have a multi-tool on you when you're doing these kinds of things on set I just had to tighten a few of the screws on the stand which may have came loose while shipping there we go now it stays in the direction I want it to be I also try to keep one of the Stan legs in the same direction as the boom arm is hanging and it helps to keep everything nice and stable you can also consider using a magenta colored light or filter with your backlight as this is the opposite of green and can also reduce some of that green spill reflecting back on your subject consider this especially when you don't have the space to pull your subject away from that background quick dance break because we got some lights going up alright now let's get that backdrop going we'll grab and set up those two stands with the bolts and washers we mentioned earlier and we will also need the crossbar poles that came with the kit you can also grab them in a super cool ninja-like way as I show in my example if you so choose do not fear me though I only use those skills when necessary unwrap and put your poles together I'm not even gonna say anything this came with four poles to be able to put across but I am short on space here so I'm just gonna use three of them this kit is surprisingly way bigger than I thought that's a good thing if you ask me it's probably easier with two people but if you're by yourself you can certainly make it happen as well unscrew the wing nut and one washer and attach one end of the pole to one stand tighten down firmly but not crazy tight then I just use the other stand to sort of hold it up for me for a minute and before I forget I always hear about people's kits becoming very dirty so let me just throw a little drop cloth or something down first so we don't ruin it on our first try here I know this won't help with dirty feet on top but at least it's safe from this gross floor whoa I almost got you there with that surprise sneak attack you gotta watch out for those guys I can't stress it enough how to watch out for this okay that's enough drop cloth and now for the main event the actual green-screen you're gonna want to unwrap and unfold your material again this thing was way bigger than anticipated which was awesome when you sort of get unfolded and organized you're going to find the top with the sewn loop that's going to slide over the crossbar Pole then just take your time and shimmy and slide that sucker on the pole I say take your time because even the green-screen material feels very cheap it feels as if one wrong pool you could tear the whole thing so this is why I'm sort of going slowly and using my other hand to guide the material other than that I suppose it's similar to putting a shower curtain on a rod if you have experience doing that when the green-screen is all the way on attach the other end of the crossbar to the other stand with the wingnut again there is one more section of the crossbar I'm not using here so my material may be a little more scrunched if you're by yourself start to raise up each stand on each side a little bit at a time until you've reached your desired height with two people it's a lot easier to sort of raise them both up simultaneously then you'll want to smooth out your material this is also long enough so it carries on to the ground so you may need to spread and push back material so there are as little wrinkles as possible that's the main point make sure it's not pulling down tight on the stands when it's being stepped on looking pretty good so far adding more light will fill in some of the wrinkles but I think we're gonna need some clips to pull this sucker tighter you 99 cents at Home Depot maybe even cheaper somewhere online again I'll try to put some links and everything below for you folks but these things are great multi-purpose little tools they're metal and they're nice and strong so let's just add a few on each side and try to smooth out some of those wrinkles it really helps to use one hand in the back to pull the cloth tight while the other hand clips it down I'm putting four on each side that seems to be good enough but I'll leave that up to your discretion definitely already starting to look better and just keep adjusting until you're happy this is just for this demonstration so I'm not too crazy concerned about it if you have the time in the space definitely take the time to perfect your setup now I'm just gonna sort of eyeball and adjust the lights I'm trying to get the screen evenly lit I'm trying to hide wrinkles and I'm also looking for hot spots so we can make those less apparent and less harsh I hear there's a cool app called green screen err I haven't used it yet but I'm definitely gonna try it soon you can get it on the App Store it's about ten bucks I hear it just makes it easy to identify things like hot spots and uneven lighting definitely gonna have to mess with that soon and who knows maybe we'll do a quick tip on it or something you've probably heard the one consistent thing about lighting for green screens and that is that you have to have two lighting zones one zone specifically to light your green screen and the other zone is specifically to light your subject so the first thing to do once your green screen is well lit is to step in and see what you got so far try not to place the subject directly in front of the green screen as it will cast unwanted shadows onto the backdrop as well as get a lot of that a green spill reflecting back on your subject if you're still getting shadows try to raise your lights a little bit above your subject that should bring your shadows down a little further it's best to have your subject step a little bit away from your screen and in doing so you will see that that doesn't give you much light left with just the tools that are given in this kit that may be cool if you're going for a dark ominous shot with similar matching light but I'm thinking we need to add a little light literally even just one strategically placed light can give you enough of what you need to light up your talent so here's the setup with just the lights that came with the kit as suspected it doesn't seem to be enough for the subject and the green-screen so I added some lights I added one key light in front of me and two soft boxes sort of above the ones at the kick with I use them on the sides to sort of get the green screen and illuminate me a little at the same time some people talk about using a steamer to get wrinkles out but I find if you pull the material tight enough and use enough light it really doesn't seem to be an issue and now you should be able to visit space visit the pyramids Paris or perhaps even find a blues clue in the comfort of your own home my apologies for the framing it's kind of hard to film these guys alone sometimes all right party people that was our video on the fancier studio 2000 watt light kit and 10 by 12 green screen all in all I have to say I kind of love it and I really wasn't expecting to someone done messed up and let me get a green screen so I'm sure I'm gonna have some weird stuff for you focusing the material of everything literally everything here feels very very cheap but it totally holds the lights up it totally holds up a green screen and the lights turn on I mean unless you're gonna be doing a ton of filming with moving this rig around a whole bunch like that I can definitely recommend this you can absolutely pull a great key with this gear if you can't it may be a matter of how you're using it and I hope that you found some useful tips in this video we should at least eventually have a quick tip video on
