every smash game has a character that was nerfed really hard in between each game we won't be going over characters who are nerfed within the game's lifespan we'll be seeing which characters were nerfed in between each smash Sequel and because there's only four in between periods for each game meaning smash 64 to melee melee to brawl brawl to smash 4 and Smash 4 to Ultimate that means we're only going to be going over four characters in this video and you're going to want to stay tuned to see which characters were nerfed the hardest and why some of them had some pretty interesting downfalls for smash 64 to melee it's Kirby Kirby and smash 64 is clearly one of the best characters in Smash 64's close knit 12 character cast being the second best character in the game however when Kirby transitioned to melee it's pretty clear that Sakurai was well aware of how good Kirby was and Kirby was nerfed really hard to the ground going from top two in the game to bottom two in the game that's pretty bad I've made a whole video actually on the fall of Kirby and because no other character got nerfed as hard as Kirby did in between 64 and melee I just had to do it plenty of his hitboxes had crazy amounts of range on them it was completely Jank if you ask me look no further than Kirby's Infamous smash 64 up tilt I don't know which up till would win in a fight snakes brawl up tilt or this one but they surely are in the same family when Kirby was brought over to melee his KO power speed range and priority were all tuned down tremendously Kirby's overall mobility and speed is just not the same as the 64 version of the character going from a meta-defining threat to just an awful low tier Kirby's Shield pressure ability with tools like down air was significantly nerfed Kirby has very little moves that actually give him frame advantage and now his attacks are just very laggy and they're not that viable in Smash 64 compared to melee every character has a brand new special move being their side special however Kirby's side special leaves a lot to be desired it's actually one of the worst specials in the game as the aerial version just does this yeah the grounded version is okay but it's not doing them too many favors his KO power was dropped significantly moves like his smash attacks Nair back here down special up throw all toned down significantly this means tools that were previously easy to use to close out stocks now just can't be used for the same utility anymore his beloved smash 64 up tilt it was nerfed surprisingly no longer being the Swiss army knife tool that it was in Smash 64 losing a huge part of its range Kirby's recovery options is also pretty terrible this has to do with him having less aerial drift than characters like Jigglypuff who are leaps in bounds better than Kirby and does what Kirby wants to do but better it means Kirby can't really fight people off stage as freely as other characters like the top tiers can Kirby is really light also on top of all this and it means Kirby can die early and you can just be bullied he has some of the worst throws in all of melee they're actually programmed incorrectly and if you do any work with Kirby I gotta give you a fedora tip there's just not a lot going for Kirby and melee even when the character was given Buffs in the pal version it didn't really change his viability that much which is really depressing as if you're a Kirby fan surprise surprise this isn't the only smash game where Kirby has been a low tier unfortunately this character is not only the most nerved character between melee and 64 but it's the most nerfed character in the whole series it's that bad between melee and brawl a lot of characters got nerfed really hard it's almost like they were looking at melee's tier list and they said let's make most of these guys low tiers as that's exactly what happened even characters who were seen as mid-tier and melee became bottom tiers like Ganondorf or even the third best character Jigglypuff however there's another character that I chose because they became a shell of their former self it was the one and only Captain Falcon one of the most beloved iconic melee characters in the whole meta if you see a stomp knee kill happening during a melee tournament it's the most hype combat low in the game he's the ultimate crowd pleaser he might not be the best character in the game but he's won Majors he's played by a large portion of the community and he's a solid High tier character that's great at Ko being extremely quickly he's the sixth best character in the game and Captain Falcon Maines had to grind to get him where he is today because the character does have flaws even a melee like his notorious bad recovery he was even seen as a low tier in the early days of melee but he has shown a lot of potential behind his character archetype which is why a character with such high KO power can be good during the transition to melee to brawl Captain Falcon was nerfed to the ground and that's honestly an understatement being one of the Premier melee characters of the entire meta and then just dropping to be in a bottom tier going from top six in melee to bottom five and brawl that's just terrible and yes when you're lower than brawl Bowser you're a bad character we could easily have talked about Poff 2 because puff was top three then became bottom three but I was really personally interested in how bad they made one of the most beloved and iconic melee characters his tremendously High KO power that he was known for in melee was completely toned down in Brawl moves like his classic knee were gutted in Ko power made into situational attacks because The Sweet Spot was made harder to hit a majority of Falcons hitboxes were made smaller and they have more end lag even the way di works and brawl heavily changed knee as it made it harder to kill with they made Falcon's dash speed and overall run speed slower his recovery is still terrible in Brawl and this was a huge issue with the character in melee sure they did add some quality of life changes like making it so side B can actually grab ledge which is actually a nice change they did some really dumb things like increasing his jump squat by a frame and I really don't know why they did this this means anytime Captain Falcon inputs a jump it's gonna be a frame slower compared to the melee iteration going from 4 frames to five plenty of his moves deal less damage like his tilts his gentleman his smash attacks either have increased startup like up smash or less knockback like his forward Smash and down smash Captain Falcon has the second shortest grab range in the game now which is also just really depressing his moves like side B have increased started up and even his Aerials were given Nerfs like his end lag increases on up air smaller hitboxes like down air or they deal less damage like his air it's just really sad to see what happened to Captain Falcon how he completely changed from melee to brawl King Dedede and brawl was an interesting character he's one of the few heavyweights throughout the whole Smash series that was actually a very solid character and was ranked highly sure he might have not been the best he was only in the C plus tier but being at ranked at the C plus here for a heavyweight is actually kind of good now I have to double down on this statement I want to tell you how rare it is for a big boy heavyweight character to be top 12 in the game it just doesn't happen that often most of the time Big Boy heavyweight characters are doomed to being mid or low to your characters in order to be a good character in Brawl you kind of need some redeeming factors whether it's some sort of Jank or you're just have a really broken moveset DDD has a lot of Jank he's known for being a character that is chain grabbing most of the cast and brawl this was the biggest Boon of his entire moveset as he could Chain Grab and just bully characters his Frame data and KO power and brawl was actually some of the best it's ever been for DDD some of his moves just wouldn't be as strong as the brawl version of the character and I'm sure when King DDD transitions to smash 4 it's just gonna be the same thing right oh never mind King DD went from being top 12 in Brawl to bottom four overnight because in Brawl gdd was the outlier of the heavyweight archetype sure he had a lot of weird things that he could do that no other character could do but those things were what made him so good and they were all pretty much removed in Smash 4. he is essentially a terrible basic heavyweight character now which means we're already right off the bat he's going to be combo food projectile cans like most heavyweight characters his down throw was completely nerfed into the ground losing its ability to Chain Grab like it could in Brawl I'm not surprised by this change honestly but I it is something to be noted though his grab range was reduced it was also made slower his grab range and brawl was incredible so this is all again another huge Nerf sure there were small changes like making down throw a combo throw for dgd now but it doesn't really offset how good the throw was formally in Brawl his iconic back air and brawl was completely gutted this was basically DD's wall of pain tool but they made this move way more laggy up tilt was a crazy strong KO tool in Brawl it was also heavily nerfed losing its KO power and its hitboxes not lasting nearly as long his Frame data in general was made worse and he really never benefited from Smash 4's lower ceiling changes mostly ended up being a victim of it because he's a big character and just became combo food the final big change was to DD's side special which on paper a lot of people thought wow this potentially could be better than the waddle D's look it's an actual projectile dude that you can use in neutral Isn't that cool I remember in for Glory mode everyone would try to spam this move however because you can simply just hit them back towards DDD it means every time dgd uses this projectile you could just simply hit it back towards him yeah pretty terrible in Smash 4 a lot of characters were good in that very specific engine whether it was because they benefited from the rage mechanic they had bread and butter combos or they had a ladder combo that just did everything for them sure we could talk about how Bayonetta or Cloud was nerfed in between Smash 4 and smash ultimate even though they're still viable characters however I wanted to choose a more Niche pick that was affected by the engine changes between Smash 4 and ultimate that being Lucario Lucario and Smash 4 was a solid B tier character at 17th place you would definitely see him in tournament but then when it transitioned to smash ultimate he went all the way down to 71st on the tier list which is a huge huge drop off where he's almost a bottom tier character Lucario and Smash 4 was essentially the rage character he arguably benefited from the mechanic the most because he had his own Aura mechanic that was heavily buffed in Smash 4 and his own Aura mechanic was kind of like the rage mechanic but more for Lucario so he would kill at super early percents in Smash 4. It was kind of insane however one of the biggest changes in Smash ultimate was thankfully nerfing the rage mechanic where it's not nearly as beneficial as it was in Smash 4 and thank God honestly I absolutely did not like the rage mechanic strength in Smash 4 it was way too strong so right off the bat Lucario and ultimate is a toned down version of this character previously he's sort of also outclassed by characters now that have higher KO power they decreased his overall weight which is going to make him lighter and die faster and as Lucario you basically want to stay alive as long as possible per stock because Lucario benefits from Aura so much essentially if you're dying earlier that means you can't benefit from Rage and Aura as much as you probably could have in smash 4. his back air was made weaker double team's duration was lowered Aura Sphere can't be grab canceled extreme speed has less end lag and they nerfed its recovery potential compared to the Smash 4 version which geez I can't believe this recovery was that good he was given plenty of Buffs they did try to round him out in some ways like making him faster his air speed was buffed a lot of his moves have less startup and enlag like his down tilt even moves getting range Buffs like his down smash or Force Palm his Mobility is higher like the Buffs are there but there's just not enough good stuff to really offset the Nerfs that he got he's cursed with bad out of Shield options and he's definitely gonna miss the old Smash 4 rage and Aura combination a lot sorry Lucario thank you guys so much for watching the video seriously I appreciate you guys if you want early content it's always going to be available for patreon members and channel members so check it out link down below if you guys want the next honest video
