Channel Update - IBKR, DeFi, and ML

here in my garage i don't have a car i mostly just walk around everywhere or ride my bicycle but what i do have is this book on python for data analysis [Music] hey everyone welcome back to another video i thought i'd do a quick channel update video as we have finished the first half of 2021 and i thought i'd check in and talk about what i'm planning for the second half of the year before i get going i wanted to go ahead and thank everyone that's contributed to the channel i have the buy me a coffee tip jar and tons of people have been using this thing so i wanted to thank all the people that i have up here on this list especially e dollar sign who left 500 which is just crazy and then i have a whole second page of folks who have contributed recognize a lot of your names at this point some people have been watching this channel the whole time for the whole two years so thanks for sticking around and i know some people come and go and they're interested in the stuff for a month or a couple months here and there or maybe they just want to solve some particular problem with one project or maybe it helps them with their homework or whatever they're trying to do maybe they just want to build one bot so thanks a lot for all the contributions i appreciate it and it's nice to know that this channel can provide some income and if times get tough i don't need to start an only fans account next i'd like to congratulate myself if you watched the channel update that i posted at the end of last year i laid out a four-year road map of a goal to get a hundred thousand subscribers so by the end of 2021 i wanted to reach 30 000 and here at the midway point of 2021 already at 35 000 subscribers roughly so that's pretty crazy so this brings me to my next point is with the growth of a channel inevitably uh folks start reaching out to you saying oh you have this audience promote my product and so i've been getting these offers a few times a week now and i've turned down all of them so far but if you follow my twitter follow me on twitter part-time larry i mentioned a few directions the channel is going to go so i accepted my first uh brand deal with interactive brokers it's short time we're going to try this out for about 90 days and the reason i said yes to this particular one is number one interactive brokers is a pioneer in this space right when you think about a trading platform that supports integrations and apis interactive brokers is usually the first one that people mention thomas peterfy the guy that started the whole thing was kind of a pioneer in the algorithmic trading space so it's a direct fit for the channel secondly i wanted to make sure it's a product i had used before so there's all these random crypto projects that try to pitch you and i don't even know what they are so i'm not going to just pretend i'm interested and then promote something that i've never used or don't care about or that sounds shady in some way and then on top of that there's a lot of benefits to interactive brokers that make them better than other brokerages i've talked about on the channel so if you watched my video on the interactive brokers api at the end of last year i gave a few benefits for using interactive brokers number one trade anything so interactive brokers supports anything you want to trade pretty much in the global markets so some people want to trade options some people want to trade futures some people want to trade forex so i like that it supports tons of different types of instruments secondly i mentioned in my video at the end of last year so this before the robin hood gamestop stuff i mentioned order execution and the fact that if you if you use interactive brokers pro and the api they're not selling your order flow and then third i looked at my channel statistics and noticed that i have quite a large international audience right now and so i usually speak and u.s folks do this a lot think that everyone is in the us for whatever reason just because that's where i am but actually only 20 of the audience is in the u.s so i hate promoting brokerages that don't care about supporting an audience that's worldwide and the final thing i like about this deal is nothing on the channel needs to change at all they're not going to try to edit my content or approve anything i can do you know you if you watch this channel you know i wear dumb hats and drink whiskey on the channel and stuff like that i don't want to have to pass all the content through some type of editorial process so the only thing that'll be different is major theme that i touched upon in this twitter thread is defy or decentralized finance so i went to a d5 meetup here in san francisco recently and i came away feeling very inspired because there's some very young talented you know really smart people focusing on this area and it really felt like the early start of something that's going to be big and so i want to make sure i stay on top of these trends like you don't want to be the person that just starts with trading stocks and just refuses to acknowledge new things or recognize that something big may be occurring so this felt kind of like early internet days kind of feel and i and i just know know when i feel something like this that i should spend some time on this and invest in some early trends you know it's still very early to the space and so i wanted to figure out what it's all about and i know pretty much nothing but i've read like a whole book on this how to defy and i'll post a book review on this and talk about uh some of the different areas but so this book talks about you know the traditional finance system and then compares that to decentralized finance it goes into ethereum and ethereum wallets and i will be talking about that more on the channel and then it dives into some use cases for d5 and so i don't want to just talk about uh buying and selling ethereum or bitcoin and us dollars and exchanging that back and forth i'm very interested in the other possible uses of cryptocurrency understanding things on a deeper level so i want to look into some of these concepts like decentralized lending and borrowing decentralized exchanges like a uniswap decentralized derivatives uh decentralized fund management like setting uh of making a fund manager lotteries decentralized payments insurance there's a lot of cool stuff you can do with this so i don't want to limit the channel to just like oh i bought bitcoin at 10 000 and sold it for 20 000 or i bought dogecoin at two thousandths of a cent and sold it at 10 cents that's all cool and all but there's a lot more going on here behind the scenes so i've been using this xerion here the woman i met at the meet up worked at zirion so i'm going to use this as kind of a uh a dashboard to kind of jump into all these different products i want to explore these different decentralized exchanges like uniswap and the way i'm going to do this is i'm going to do my reading get familiar with all the terms so that i can speak intelligently about this topic and then i'm going to go into some front end using web3.pi and web3.js here so i'm going to use languages i already know in order to explore the blockchain the ethereum blockchain and then i'm going to actually invest in learning solidity since i haven't learned a new programming language in a while and the benefit if you're watching this channel and you know nothing about this you can see it through my eyes and i can share what i learned and i have some cool project ideas brewing uh with defy and uh yeah i'll share them with you as i learn more so uh yeah let me know if you know a lot about d5 and ethereum and crypto and if there's anything you want to see i'm looking for feedback of project ideas projects you want to explore uh things you're interested in hearing more about in this space so leave a comment below if you have any opinions on that the third thing that happened in the past week so i had a coffee meet up with a guy that's running a new hedge fund that uses machine learning and i i met up with him for coffee had a conversation he has a very uh impressive background and so i've been thinking that i need to spend more time on machine learning and there's been a lot of demand from you all out there i've received a lot of comments about wanting to hear more about machine learning and so i need to level up in that space in order to share content about it so i've been doing some reading there as well and i have some things in the works i flashed this book before advances in financial machine learning that i've talked about uh previously so i'm i still haven't finished it yet but i'm working on it because i wanted to possibly participate in this numerai competition which is a contest that also involves crypto but also lets you predict stocks so you can submit a machine learning model to this contest and then you win when money i think is how it works and so i need to learn a little bit more about this and i my goal is to get good enough to where i could submit a machine learning model to numerai participate in this contest and show you how to do it as well and yeah why talk about machine learning well i want to keep the content on this channel fresh that's the other reason i want to talk more about interactive brokers and other types of instruments the reason i want to talk about defy the reason why i want to talk about machine learning is we've talked about some of the same things a bit too much i know people like the indicator bots and the candlesticks and the and the super trend and these things i've been talking about but i feel like i've already covered those things so if you want to just create a technical indicator based bot then you know i've covered pandas ta python ta ta lib uh bta lib and so all those pieces are already together i feel like i've covered that right so i'll post a video and someone will be like oh you did rsi why don't you do macd with ema and this other thing well i i showed how to use the library i showed how to get the data feed i showed how to use web sockets i showed how to execute with ccxt so you kind of have all the pieces so if you want to do different combinations and you want to backtest them with backtrader which i've talked about then i've already kind of covered those those topics so um the piece is already there and so there's nothing really stopping you from just doing what i did and just adding another a layer on top of it so i feel like i've covered a large amount of this ecosystem so i mentioned i've covered brokerage apis crypto exchanges back testing frameworks indicator library screeners visualization pandas databases servers and we want to keep exploring new ground and keep it fresh otherwise people are like oh this is just the the trading indicator bot guy so i don't want to be adjust that i want to explain expand to interesting uses of cryptocurrency that will shape the future i want to dive deep into interactive brokers so that we can trade other types of instruments and i want to continue to explore machine learning and get better at these things because machine learning is going to continue to be a trend that dominates for the next 10 years so what i want to do is branch out a little bit more beyond you know some of these books that are written in the 1980s that talk about you know old techniques that might not even be applicable anymore and start talking about you know stuff like this this is more uh modern literature but um yeah so it's possible i'll discuss a little bit more about machine learning i mentioned talking to a hedge fund manager about some possible opportunities but i can't really share the details like those types of things are very secret but i'm going to try to come up with my own techniques with machine learning and talk about things that are more publicly documented and create some tutorials on that so if you have any specific topics related to machine learning that you want to cover maybe you want to do some classification neural networks whatever you're interested in uh you probably know more than me so leave a comment below of some things you want to see so that's about it that's what i have for now i wanted to share uh where we are at the midpoint of the year um how i'm doing after two years of channel growth and talk about what the next two years is going to look like and be very transparent about the fact that i have this influencer deal uh about the fact that i'm gonna do a lot more content on uh crypto applications and machine learning applications because i think it'll be super interesting and i think especially this defy stuff i think there can be some cool like creator economy and commun community style projects we can do where maybe we can interact and have lotteries and do uh cool stuff like that so i'll share more about that next week so uh
