a minute with praise and worship but we're gonna get started with prayer thank y'all for tuning in hallelujah hallelujah everyone i tell you one thing about prayer i don't have to do it by myself we all can pray together amen so if you can right now i need you to eliminate all distractions around you as we go ahead and go before the lord so heavenly father we come to you right now god just thank you number one for who you are god we thank you for being the king of kings we thank you for being the lord of lords and we thank you for being the master of the universe god lord i ask that you come right now and just forgive each and every one of us for our sins father i pray that you would just remove anything on the inside of us that is not like you god i pray that you will continue to create enough a pure heart father every single day that we wake up we want to be more like you god i pray that you remove any single distraction that is going on in our lives right now father i pray that for today you're going to continue to have your way in our life god father we want to be more like you father every single day that we wake up we want to live like you god we are images of christ father so i just pray right now that you would just remove anything on the inside of us that is not like you father lord as we come before you today i pray that you completely have your way in this service god we thank you for just being who you are when we needed god lord i thank you for being faithful to us even when we are not faithful to you father lord i thank you for loving us even when we are unlovable god lord i just pray that you have your way in this service today god lord i lift up every single youth and young adult god i pray that you will continue to have your way in their lives father i pray that you will continue to be the center in the core of their lives god lord i'm praying right now for anybody that is brokenhearted father we know in this season people are leaving our earth every single day god but i just pray right now that you will be near the brokenhearted father i pray that you will be near the brokenhearted today in the name of jesus god lord i pray for my youth and my younger dose father that every single day that they woke up they want to serve you god lord there's so many things going on around us but i pray that you have your way in their lives god i pray that you will set every single crooked patch straight father i pray that you will continue to have your way in their lives god lord we thank you right now for all that you do god we thank you for just being who you are father and i pray that you will have your way in this service tonight god i pray that you will go ahead and break every single barrier that is up on today god let those walls fall down right now in the name of jesus god let this be a service that we can open up father where we'll have no words of god we worship you forever and never and ever god lord i pray right now casualties i'm talking about car accident after car accident after car accident after car accident when i'm sitting in the hospital being hard-headed no it's the difference between being hard-hitting when your parents tell you something that's different you know they can pop you on the hand you go about your business punishment but when the lord popped you yeah yeah i saw my window lord pop you oh you gonna feel it i'm tomorrow you gonna feel it in your back it might be your leg it might be your head it might be your arms but you gonna feel it but after all of that the lord kept me hallelujah the lord kept me i'm talking about y'all don't understand i'm talking about i was walking with a cane had to reload how to do my step how to do my dance i couldn't jump back then i couldn't jump back then i couldn't dance back then i couldn't walk on my own back then but i'm here today because he kept me and i can jump [Music] amen all right nc turned up turn up for what that's that nc turn up turn up all right so i'm kind of quiet so my testimony is just that as some of you may or may not know i am a music artist and for a long time i've just been chasing a dream chasing a dream chasing a dream and it just seems like nothing was really working out for me and i just want to say that god will work it out on your behalf god will work it out on your behalf so this past week i talked to my manager he said come on let's pray about it let's start to intercede for your dream let's start to intercede for this goal and within a week i got everything that i needed i got contacted for performances so i just want to thank god for allowing me to keep going to keep pressure to keep moving hey hey yeah hey so i just want to thank god [Music] okay so i'm the only african-american in my class all my classes um i'm also the youngest come on now but um three to six weeks i've gotten all a's [Music] for 100. [Music] 399s and 191 [Music] hallelujah nc turn up a little bit more nc turn up turn up for what i attend one of the most amazing churches in the houston area amen hallelujah i'm gonna turn up for that we have one of the most amazing youth and young adult departments and if you are watching right now at home y'all missing out in this parking lot every single sunday we are here amen i am here eight to nine and again guys we are a church that prays in the midst of everybody worrying we are praying so i want you guys to make sure you can go ahead and call in every single thursday our pastor also goes live with what's going on so if you're confused about what's going on in our nation in our world right now you definitely want to tune in to thursday what's going on i also want to go ahead and let you guys know please continue to keep our mothers and fathers in the nursing homes in your prayers again they still cannot have visitors but you still can go ahead and pray for them and lastly this is our second super sunday which is youth and young adults amen one more time and just so you know next week is going to be our baby parade so that's going to be any newborn up until five years law but let thine heart keep my commandments for the length of days and long life and peace shall they add to thee let not mercy and truth for safety bind them around about your neck write them upon the table of thine heart verse 4 so shalt thou find favor and good understanding somebody say good good understanding in the sight of god amen verse number five trust in the lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding six and all thy ways acknowledge him and he might he sometimes every now and then nah that's not what my book says it says and he shall direct thy paths and last verse it says be not wise in thine own eyes fear the lord and depart from evil amen amen dear father right now we just thank you for the opportunity that we have to give you praise on this parking lot god we don't count it lord just for not we don't take um we don't count it as light we know god that this is an opportunity that we're able to meet with the master of the universe so we pray god that as we stand here before you we pray god that you will just do what you do best come and move on our behalf god come and move in our life in jesus holy name we thank you we bless you and the church said a man amen and a man family you may be seated go on and take your seat so last week if you can be seated hey man so last week my wife was so kind to where she reminded me she said will the yard need some tlc it's looking pretty bad right and she said are you going to get out there and do something about it or are you going to call the yard man to be able to help out i take pride in my yard so i said nope i'ma do it all right and so while i was cutting the lawn things were racing through my mind and i was like what are we going to talk about today what are we going to teach about what are we going to expound upon and guys i like coming up with some crafty things something that's going to catch your attention right and every single title that came to my mind god was like nope that's not it i was like oh well this one's real good he was like nah try again and literally every single thing that came to my mind god shut it down and he said i don't want anything elaborate i don't want you to get fancy with the title and get with the lip service and the poetry and all that good jazz he said all i want you to do is just talk about a one word a five letter word that is hard for us to do a five letter word that we talk about at the beginning of every year when we set our new year's resolutions right and that five-letter word that we're gonna talk about today is change somebody say change somebody say change look to your neighbor and say change change is a word that is offensive deji change is a word that is not comfortable and it's not popular sis it takes work sometimes it takes you actually putting your hand to the plow and taking action change is more about walking the walk and not just talking to talk in the military we have a saying it goes it briefs well right and that's when our commanders they come up with these elaborate ideas and we're like that sounds good but on paper i don't think that's going to be able to be executed right so a concept or an idea of change many times it is measurable i'm reminded of a show that expanded back from the early 2000s and some of you all y'all might have watched it it was called the biggest loser right and in order to win in order to be the biggest winner you had to be the biggest loser and there was a contestant on season nine his name was mike and he started the show and he weighed in at a whopping 500 plus pounds [Music] now at the end of the season mike won the grand prize and he lost a total of almost 50 percent of his body weight he lost 260 pounds and family you might be looking at me and y'all are like what does that have anything to do with the sermon today mike made up a point within his mind thank you mama i heard you preaching me on mike made up a point in his mind to say i'm not set with the way that i feel with the way that i look with the way that i'm going through life so something has to change something has to transform something different needs to take place in my life and so what did he do he put aside the chains he put aside the hindrances and he asked for outward help somebody say change youth and young adults family member seasoned saints say man i'm gonna be before you for a quick 15 minutes i know the time is well spent we had church on this morning but i want to talk about a couple of things that we need to accept and avoid that we need to receive and reject that we need to embrace and that we need to evade that we need to keep away and i know brother maurice he might like this one one that we need to have and hold and then one that we need to hate so the first thing that i want to bring up on tonight is we need to reject the devil's corruption and condemnation yeah you can hawk your horns at that amen that is one of the devil's biggest and craftiest tricks within his dirty bag of tricks is condemnation condemnation means to pronounce as guilty to sentence to punishment or pass judgment against but how many knows in revelations 2 and then states that satan is called the accuser of the brethren satan is really good at telling what half truths and he's been doing that since the beginning of time in genesis jamal it started off when he told what he said is this tree not good right it started way back when he's really good at telling you those lies but i want to encourage you family that you are not defined by the lies of the devil you are not defined as the mistakes of your past you are not defined by the things and the mistakes that your parents may even have made you have not defined by any generational curses you are not a failure you are not forsaken you are forgiven say i am forgiven you are a chosen generation you said you are a holy nation you are a peculiar people amen you are called out of darkness into his marvelous life somebody say no chains somebody say no chains so i want to tell you if you haven't heard it recently that jesus christ jesus christ paid your fair into eternal redemption he broke the chains of damnation and the curses of punishment the promise of sin was death but we have life in him so we know that we can reject the devil's condemnation we know that we can reject his lies and his schemes those scenes that he tries to whisper and tell us as truth but we know that they're lies so new covenant what can we re we can receive counsel conviction and constructive criticism and that last one is one that we struggle with all the time and family i want to say that this sermon today i struggle with this sermon because it's a sermon that's supposed to prick your heart it's not a sermon that's going to get you jumping and make you run around the parking lot a man this is a sermon that's supposed to invoke change in your life if you don't feel uncomfortable after this sermon and i have not done my job amen so y'all bear with me because this sermon is to make sure that we change somebody say change in society today we don't want to hear that we're wrong we look at people sideways if they tell us that we made a mistake and people question us about what we did or what we said or what we could do better we get anxious we get upset we get offended amen but in this season family i'm telling you it's not time to get offended it's time for us to look inward and say what can i do to be better what do i need to change my pastor always said he said that you can learn a lot from a fool when people come to you and they give you any criticism i want to challenge you look inward and see if there's any value in it if you could take away anything to be able to grow from it even if it may not be 100 spot on if there's anything there that can make you a better you listen to it take heed hearken to it growth comes from those that have a teachable spirit and that are willing to be able to receive that constructive criticism corruption is killed by listening to what paul said to the roman church romans 1 and 2 samurai says what it says that this is where it gets good it says present our bodies a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto god which is what our reasonable service to says be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is good acceptable and perfect will of god every single goat greatest of all time every had a coach they all had someone to tell them that regardless of whether or not they won wilmington or whether or not they won the the national championship or whether or not tom brady has almost more rings than he could put on his fingers they always maintained a teachable spirit and they had a coach to be able to push them to that next level so i say that to say if everybody is telling you that you're doing everything right then you need to talk to some other people if everybody in your corner is saying that you got it all together and that you make no mistakes then you might need to go down to downtown and file for a name change and change it from william clay to jesus christ because i guarantee you you're not perfect i guarantee you each and every single one of us no matter if you're in the second grade or if you're in college or if you have a master's or if you're 88 plus years old we all have something that we can learn to do better in our christian walk somebody say do better the second thing so that was the first thing amen the second thing that we need to reject that we need to evade that we need to do away with is hatred and hindrances in order for us to grow we must evict hatred from our heart someone say let it go someone say let it go hatred is a very heavy word i don't know what many of you all are thinking like pastor will i don't hate i love everybody right guys many times if you have to justify and i count myself doing this sometime lady betty when i make a mistake what does this good old flesh try to do i try to justify my mistake i say well you know uh this could have took this place the reason why the reason the reason why i did this the reason why i did that was because of this the moment that we have to justify our sin brother gibbs is a problem the moment that we have to make excuses for ourselves and try to talk about why we did the things that we do that's when we need to be able to say no and get hatred out of the crevices of our hearts hatred is the poison of faith hatred is a poison of expansion hatred is a is a poison of growing the kingdom of god the moment that we start working against each other is the moment that jesus is dissatisfied and the devil is happy many times this is the enemy of our character and potentially if it goes unchecked it can dissolve the christian community and if you don't want to believe me then let's go on and see what a few scriptures has to say about it first john 4 20 says if anyone says i love god and hates his brother he is a liar for he who do not love his brother whom he have seen cannot love a god that he has not seen first john 2 9 says whoever says that he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness proverbs 10 and 2 says hatred stirs up strife but love covers all offenses matthew 6 and 15 says but if you do not forgive others their transpasses neither will the father forgive you of yours hindrances are defined as a thing that provides resistance delay obstruction or something to someone there are many different hindrances that we can have in our life you can say ouch under your voice if this applies to you a man being anxious being a crowd follower procrastination being unorganized i'm talking to you young people there's a reason why i'm saying some of these things young people young adults over committing ouch distractions ouch disobedience ouch over committing selfish envy and the list goes on we must make it a point to kick it out of our lives and kick it out of our christian life somebody say kick it out so now we know what we need to evade what do we need to evade hate and hindrances now we need to know what we need to receive amen and we need to receive holiness and hospitality hebrews 12 14 says to make every effort to live in peace with everyone and be holy for without holiness no one will see the lord we are made in the image of god somebody turn to your neighbor and say you look good you are made in the image of god turn around to your other neighbor and say you look good amen jamie's like i don't got nobody on this side go and say it to yourself jamie amen amen because god is a holy god that means he demands for us seeing that we are made in this image we are a reflection of him for many people we will be the only jesus that they will see god is commanding that he is a holy god therefore we must live a holy life so what does that look like it looks like being different it looks like being separated it looks like something that you can see in the way that somebody acts in the way that somebody talks in a way that somebody dresses in the way that somebody thinks in a way that somebody maneuvers through life the way that you can tell that a young adult that a youth josh is chosen it's royal it's peculiar it's through a lifestyle of holiness somebody say holiness living of life of holiness doesn't mean that we're better than anybody it just means that we have to do better holiness should lead to hospitality it looks welcoming it feels warm it shows acts of being kind and friendly and in love sincerely a life change means that we must reject hatred hindrances and receive holiness and hospitality somebody raised say receive it somebody say receive it i know i don't have a lot of amens in the house i know it's not comfortable it's okay when you get home you're gonna be all right hey man amen for all of you that did good in school keats right i know you doing good in school hey man you all know what letter comes next if you haven't taken note we're going with the c's then we hit the h's and now we're going to hit the asus amen a life change means that we need to reject somebody say reject alienation and i know you may be looking at me and like take me to your leader you might be saying what we talking about bro we talking about et are we talking about ufos what are we talking about i'm not talking about guardians of the galaxy i'm not talking about will smith being cool and men is black right i'm talking about being separated or being isolated from the body of christ and i've been guilty of this sometimes many times when life happens instead of us insulating ourselves with the people of god and with the church like brother mo just said we scatter we get ghosts we step away from those that love us we step away from our safety net god is asking us to change in this season and to get plugged in to not be alienated but to actually get connected to a local assembly we all have unique functions and unique gifts i wish i could sing like you jamal but i can't bubba i wish i could drum the way that you could deji i wish i could run as fast as you can bruh but i guarantee you it doesn't matter how much i train i can't beat you in the 100. i can't beat you in the 200. i can't beat you in the 400. each and every single one of us we have a gift all of us have a purpose the church is not the building i'ma say it again because some of y'all didn't catch it the church is not this building the church is you and you and you and you and every single person that proclaims the name of jesus christ the enemy understands that we have powers and numbers one will put a thousand to flight two will put ten thousand to flight where two or three are gathered in his name not he might not sometimes but he shall be within the miss matthew 18 and 20. he understands that we are from one if we are in one mind that if we are on one page that if we are on one accord then we can do anything when we realize that we are not alone and we will reject alienation and separation then we will understand hebrews 13 and 5 which says that he will never leave us and that he will never forsake us that he is as close as a mentioning of his name remember jesus christ already paid it forest gump says something special right um yeah let's go on and bring it out family go ahead and bring in the illustrations real quick forrest gump says something special and what he said he said life is like a box of what somebody read somebody's seen the movie before come on life is like a box of chocolates gonna bring the table up here as well guys so many times when we relate our life we have to remember that we are not alone we have to receive this is the good part of the a we have to receive god's acceptance of his presence knowing that he is with us at all times amen we have to receive the gift of his presence so i know for many of you right you may wonder what's about to happen my demonstrator is going to stand up right here going to stand up right here family y'all look good go on and give it up for our youth and our young adults in the house [Music] amen amen family these boxes that you see before you today is very similar to our lives forest said life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you're gonna get but one thing that i do know is from the beginning of time where is it at where's the holy spirit at oh there it is going to bring the holy spirit up here many times we try to think that we have it all together brother mo and god already pre-put things within our life that he knows it is good inside of our box inside of our life what does that look like his holy spirit peace that surpasses all understanding imma give you a lot hey man you're gonna get a lot of good stuff your talents your gifts his anointing your purpose your family your community your friends and so many other things and the list can go on right but many times again we think that we know better than god so sometimes we do something like we add unnecessary weight into our box weight that we shouldn't have jamal weight that was not meant for us weight that was not built for us to carry but we do it anyway so we add frustration we had pain we had heartache we had hatred we had hindrances we had frustration we had anxiety pain suffering generational curses and all these different things we just throw them into our buckets dj said he didn't want that one it bounced out we add these unnecessary weight into our baskets and after a while it gets heavy is it heavy you strong it's a strong young man right here many times it starts getting heavier than we can take and then what do we do sometimes sometimes we say man your box don't look too bad i think i can be able to take a step in that guy's shoes your backs that don't look too full so we try going and taking things out of other people's lives comparing ourselves saying that it would be better if i walked in their shoes it would be easier if i lived their life it would be better if i didn't have to go through the things that wait they went through but many times what we don't understand is what god has put in our life he has pre-purposed us to be able to go on and take care of those issues he will never never bring you to a trial or a situation that he has now pre-purposed you with power kiana with power backs with power jamie that you can be able to accomplish or oversee it so when we try to put other people's stuff in our box it doesn't fit when we try to go in and put other people's stuff within our box it doesn't fit so what should we do what should we do this is family come on young people this is where we have a family this is why it's important to be connected because when you're connected your family can be able to take those things that are heavy those things that so easily beset you those things that are frustrating you those things that are keeping you up late at night those things that are hurtful that are harmful that are stopping you from your purpose and be able to go in and lay it down at the feet of christ [Music] as i close family i just want to encourage you i want to let you know that nobody can live your life like you can god wants you to change god wants you to change god is asking you not tomorrow but right now deji not tomorrow but right now maurice not tomorrow but right now jamal right now deuce right now maya right now uh chantal i'll see you over there he wants you to change what i will not do is i will not allow my time to be able to expire here on earth without being able to change young people it doesn't matter how young you are it doesn't matter how young you may be our people of color are dying every day our black tan brown brothers and sisters regardless of what color you are white yellow green purple we we're dying every day no day is promised to you if you have not been plugged into a church now is a season if you're not paying your tithes and your offerings if you're robbing god now is the season for you to be able to make it right and not be a thief if you need a covering if you need a pastor after your own heart now is a season to get connected if you know what your gifts are and your talents now is not the time to sit on it it's time for you to get up and do something somebody say do something family i want to encourage you god loves you he loves you so much that he came down to earth and he paid the price of the penalty of sin so that we might have life in life ever more if there's anything that i want you to take away from this sermon today it's that god is asking you today in this season right now to make a commitment in your heart to be able to change to be able to look internally and say i'm not gonna do things the way that i used to do them i can't talk the same way that i used to talk i can't think the same way that i used to think i can't act the same way that i used to act and expect to be pleasing to god and for you all that are doing a good job i want to take off my hat to you because family i know i've been talking a lot but i just want y'all to give it up for our youth and our young adults if you're a youth and a young adult i want you to come up here real quick as i close come up here real quick if you're not actively working or doing something come up here come up here come up here real quick that means my babies too my babies can come up here too amen youth and what you need to change in your life and change it right now don't wait until tomorrow josh don't wait until tomorrow garcia go in and change it right now i love y'all so much i love y'all so much y'all look good somebody give it up for our youth and our young adults in the house these are your babies these are your nieces and your nephews and your cousins and your sons and your daughters and your sisters and your brothers this is the future i want to challenge every single adult on this parking lot as i put this mic down as i give it to pastor i know my time is well spent if you don't know these young people's names if you have not connected with at least one of them i know this has been an unorthodox season right but if you need somebody's number you can get a hold of me this is our future i was asked a question a couple of weeks ago and i was asked and a group of pastors young adult pastors youth pastors and they said are our youth and our young adults ready to be able to take the mantle are they ready to be able to pick up the torch and carry it into the end zone and i'm confident i'm confident i am confident that new covenants youth and young adults that they are ready they are in good hands our church is in good hands pastor you have some workers here that are ready to put their hands to the plow but family adults i want you to hold on to these young adults i want you to pour into them i want you to invest into them so that way they can continue to grow pastor thank you so much for all your support for our youth and our young adults we can't thank you i
