day on our coverage here on SoCal college sports comm mount sac Fresno City the men's brackets any final number two and here we go Fresno the top seed from the north mount sac the two seed we already saw an upset earlier today aztap punched their ticket to championship Sunday for the win over top seeded Cerritos from the South Cerritos previously unbeaten on the year and they go home mount sac in the white working right to left Fresno in the black with red numbers get some starters out here for you shortly battle for it on the far side and this is gonna be a game of a lot of skill a lot of speed and a lot of pressure yeah and I think there's gonna be some physical play and just someone trying to establish themself early in two different types of teams in terms of tactical formation mount sac typically in a 3-5-2 and you'll see that they actually like to committee eight forward so they actually slide one of those three forward and play with eight eight forward and they'll defend with eight and then Fresno likes a 4-4-2 very rarely do they come out of the floor for two but I think today to kind of unlock mount sac a little bit they need to commit another player at least forward to be able to do some damage to mount sac starting today for the Mounties it's number seven Jose Antonio number eight Marty arrey Goya Ragosa number nine Michael Gonzales number ten Alexis Diaz Piatt number twelve Jason Roche at number thirteen Jason Ramos number fourteen Craig banan Caen and number fifteen Pedro Morales two players of note not in the starting lineup for the Mounties number eleven Sam panting leads him in pointing goals on the season and Andre Gamboa second on goals in the season he has 12 Ponting with 13 that's 25 goals on the season out of the starting lineup coach can you maybe comment as to why that might be the case I don't know I didn't watch that too much the warmest because they're on the practice field so I don't know if they're carrying an injury which I don't know that they are maybe there's a discipline thing or maybe they just want to bring those players on because Ponting with significant part of their program last year as well so it's not it's not further obviously with it because of their goalscoring and because of their history that it's not for a lack of their ability and the player of note for Fresno City it's Johnny Rodriguez player in the state Player of the Year in the state of California and the three c2a leads a state in points on the year in gold store scored he has 23 goals on the year it'll be interesting to see how mount mount sac handles Rodriguez weather there and it appears right now they're just gonna hey we're gonna play our back three we're gonna play against you two and we're gonna be aware of Rodriguez in terms of what he does and we'll be interesting to see when he does receive it if they double-team it or how they handled it but I'm I'm guessing mount sac because of how good they believe they are and defensively minded they are that they're gonna just be aware of them and defend them and know differently they they would anybody else it's the defending champion Mount San Antonio College Mounties City College Rams early opportunity here for the Mounties and it's a save in goal on the discuss today horn and I think if you're gonna beat Fresno State and I'm scuse me Fresno City Fresno State they're gonna ask that's the kind of ball that they need to they need to find the diagonal ball little ball that splits the seams of their back for which they're prone to give that up and mount sac is technical enough and pacing enough that they can they can do that very high level of skill here and semi-final number two under this Casa de cos that I honed in goal for the Rams already with an early save I would expect mount San Antonio just in general no matter how the game goes to have more possession to have more time on the ball it's just the way that they play the way that they like to dictate pace and and Fresno City will will bring with a variety of things they're not afraid to bypass midfield to find Rodriguez quick to get him into the attack and and see if they can either generate goal scoring opportunities for him but I think an important part of the game for Fresno today is that not only is Rodriguez get on the end of balls but he becomes a facilitator to actually drag players and then give good service or other players one Sykes with it on the ball looking to enter it in deflected out by the Mounties the Rams retain possession here scrum four in the middle taken away by mount sac starting today for the Rams in goal we already talked about on Denis Kostin number one day Quan Sykes number two Johnnie Rodriguez number eight Alex Covarrubias number nine Manuel Lopez number 12 Alfredo Lopez number 13 Matias Santos number 13 or number 16 rather Vladimir Morales number 21 Jose Aguilera number 24 Juan Alvarez at number 25 Fabian Mendoza I think one of their key players Rodriguez is an obvious Castro honing goal it's gonna have to be very good but I think Daquan Sykes is sort of a wild card because of his pace he's not he's technically a good player but he's not as technical as some of the other players at Fresno but his pace on the attacking side but also to use him defensively to put some pressure and high press mount sac may be selectively to take them out of the rhythm mount sac loves that rhythmic sort of game that Cerritos does as well that they like to play so it'll be interesting to see how two different styles come up against each other today this is Rodriguez on the ball now gives to Sykes Sykes you talked about it we saw him earlier on in this match up a lot of speed on the outside for the Rams great touch from Rodriguez to the far side here comes an entry pass Sykes the intended target gets away from him and it'll go back to the Mounties we are in the sixth minute here in the second semi-final the men's back in the three c28 2017 championship soccer coverage here on SoCal college sports calm Morales enters it in looking for a runner nobody home it's cleared out the Mounties retain possession Taft with win over Cerritos as we mentioned earlier in penalty kicks Cerritos again playing with a man down unable to get over the hump and Taft through to Sunday deflection and not on goal and that's where Fresno needs to communicate a little bit more on it and I think defensively Fresno's actually struggled when they've played on the road this year in matches all those this is the same kind of game of being on the road like a Tuesday having to get on a bus and travel somewhere but the the rap against Fresno is the organization of their back for and that's just a communication thing it's not their ability or anything like that it's being on the same page and being organized and understanding who defends and picks up which player and you saw right there mount sac cap one of their players just running at the back four and had a decent opportunity and a half chance to get a shot on goal so Fresno's organization at the back is gonna be one of the keys today yeah you can get away from you in a hurry when you're playing the Mounties and they can put up points in a big way on the scoreboard and you see that they just want to possess the game as best they can and it appears right now they're playing if they play a 4-4-2 but it looks like a four-for-one one when they're defending when rodriguez is high looks like they're trying to take away the center back you know and if they're going to play through the back three and change the point of attack they're gonna have to skip the ball play immediately to their other outside back Rocha with possession deep into the box and this can be a corner kick awarded so a set piece on deck here for the Mounties which I think this might be their second corner kick I think of the match already yeah they have are easily setting the pace in terms of time of possession on the ball this is Alexis Diaz Piatt gives officer Roche in the corner enters it in cleared out Rodriguez now with the ball coach you talked about Johnny Rodriguez earlier today off camera and just a tremendous athlete not only with the ball but just in the open field his athleticism is phenomenal his paceman and I think more than seeing him on the ball and and scoring goals in off of his feet his athleticism to win a ball in the air we saw it unfortunately up front against Fresno Fresno City ten days ago when we played them in Fresno his athleticism on set pieces and things like that is is incredible you know when you're looking to create that type of sets or separation to give you a chance Rodriguez just seems to be the player that squirts out ahead of the pack right and I'm surprised right there even there he had a ball on his feet and mount sac let him turn and that's either getting an oversight in that moment or if that's an oversight for the game he's gonna cause some problems don't score early here we are in the ninth minute the Mounties already with a shot on goal the Mounties came in reeling just a little bit at the end of the regular season a loss to Rio Hondo a loss to Chaffee they've lost two out of their last six of course they are on a streak of three on their way up to American River for the championships versus IBC two rounds ago they had to come back Ponting with a goal to tie it up and then eventually the Mounties winning that in penalty kicks well we've seen that from this isn't the first time you've seen them not be on tremendous form going into post season but it seems to be once they get into post season they sort of iron things out and knowing what they need to do they've been there enough this is there what 11th straight final for now so from from the coaching staff and from the players that were there last year that the players from the year before etc etc there's a bit of a legacy in a culture there that they have in a certain amount of confidence to feel like you can always do that Edwin Gutierrez in goal native of Santa Ana I mentioned that because I'm from saying that's a smart ball through in the in the box there to split the split the box by my Fresno and then they'll need to try and keep keep probing that way today to see if they can unlock the back three yeah and the man in with that entry pass Johnny Rodriguez yeah and that's the thing it's with him he's gonna be as dangerous on the ball as he is off the ball and the way we all say it sometimes in the coaching world is your head is on a swivel looking for the number two and just just to always know where he is well coach what we saw earlier today what not having your best player on the pitch can result in Luis Garcia not playing today cuz of a red card that was issued in his previous game he had to sit out the semi-final and Cerritos goes down opportunity here for the Mounties considering he's not you know the best player their best goal scorer yeah they lost a big a big goal scoring punch and they weren't able to seem to find guys before or after they had the red card today to get guys on the end at the end of balls and then again you take it all the way to penalty kicks then you don't have your goal scorer to take one of your P K's here's Estrada out of the back on the ball kicks it ahead this is Rocha Rocha looking to enter brings it back controls it or to raise ray goes up the Mounties trying to set something up here and there's the culmination play that they love so much they're gonna hold it and look for combination play at the top of the box lifts ball through and that merely nearly created a problem for Fresno but it's clear it out they love that combination play and if and if Fresno gets caught ball watching instead of defending the the most dangerous player now mount sac will take advantage of that really quick terrific back and forth between Ray goes and Santo yo Mounties again now pressing four on four advantage Mounties ball through Rocha and he gets a foot to the shin this is gonna be a yellow card I would assume here coach I think he's just calling it's calling a straight foul but I think there could have been a fall before that on Daquan Sykes in the box so it's and again a follow on mount sac on the fresno player because he's still down right now de Kwang Sykes but interesting no call on the first one and then to call the second one which was which was definitely justified yeah the Sykes collision seemed a little bangbang but kosterow home coming out of his coming out of his area seemed fairly blatant obviously it's a heads-up play because you want to stoppage and play there but you'll take the card but this is a dangerous spot this is uh this is a closed corner kick if you will in and out he's coming up but I think the mistake may not have been some much in the foul because I believe he knew he was outside the box but I think maybe the mistake wasn't coming for that ball when maybe he didn't need to because the mount sac player wasn't quite there yet by running towards the corner flag and you have plenty of help centrally in the box we can we can slow it down a little bit but now you've created an an unbelievable dangerous opportunity for an organized mount sac team a mistake up to a lesser degree it's not a penalty kick but a mistake nonetheless and an opportunity here for the Mounties to capitalize we're in the 13th minute and we also saw in the lead up into that situation as a little bit of lack of discipline in the defending from Fresno's back for where they're stabbing it players a little bit instead of standing them up and just trying to take them to about angle here comes the ball in there looking for a handball they're not gonna get the call he goes back the other way to Fresno and now an opportunity to counter and this is where Fresno needs to take advantage that his could mount sac will commit players into the attack they'll commit players forward on set pieces and if they can get out like that and they're committed they're gonna create opportunities from that situation it takes one only takes one and similar to Cerritos mount sac a similar type of system and program in terms of how they play if that becomes a developing situation they are not afraid to commit the professional foul in the middle third of the field and disrupt the game and remember everybody you can watch his broadcasts live you have any friends and family either in the country or out of the country go to our website wwlp.com also on our youtube channel so cal college sports one you don't have to be in front of a computer tablet PC smartphone on Apple TV you got a Roku TV got an Xbox one you got something with a YouTube app search our channel so Cal College Sports one you can upscale this broadcast to 4k just unfortunate we're not broadcasting in 4k but you know the time will come president with possession looking to track it down this is Armando Gonzales newly checked in here for the Rams so a fresh body on the pitch still not have seen Sam haunting haunting played in their last game have not seen him yet a key cog in what the Mounties do and we did not have a report as to a possible injury but he is not on the field as we speak meanwhile this is Rocha and nearside looking to make a play he keeps it himself it's a pretty good run here from Rocha he gives off and a shot another shot second one on goal this time off of the foot from Jose cent Toyo yeah it's again Fresno Fresno was back for creating big scenes for months act to play through and their ball watching so the as the player is running at the back for they outside back there from Fresno on the left-hand side he's watching the ball to number 25 and he's not seeing the player over his left hand shoulder step in behind him so he needs to step in and take that seam away and force Fresno to play wide as opposed to underneath San Antonio with 12 goals scored on the season between Ponting Santoya and Gamboa two of which are not playing today 37 goals combined so a lot of potency out of the offense and who's gonna step up for the Mounties for Montoya really setting the pace here Santa Leo rather Mounties again with possession this is Morales Morales enters it in ray goes up back to Diaz paya Diaz PI if memory serves one of the leaders and assists on the team a terrific ball inside intended for Santa oh but Santoya wasn't ready for it Rodriguez meanwhile 2 1-3 usually not a problem for him here's Johnny and I think that's what they need to look there it is that's what it is looking for a header an entry pass from the far side he tracks it down and we see the speed on full display right there kick in from Rodriguez and then what we saw that preceded that was Rodriguez receiving the ball playing a nice through ball recycling his run and trying to get on the back on the end of that and when he did that he lost his mark he lost his player from mount sac and he's open unfortunately not a great ball into him it should be a little more driven but that's gonna be one of the keys to Rodriguez trying to unhitch or on the unlock mountain mount san antonio a little bit well either way another opportunity here for the Rams this time I believe this is their first corner kick and I think we have Ponting is up now warming up with Gamboa probably this ball headed out looks like it's gonna be cleared momentarily no rodriguez wins the ball kicks another one in white well left of the goal it'll be interesting to see as the game goes along on Rodriguez he's gonna have some looks like he's he's already had a couple opportunities and it looks like he's gonna he's gonna have those and hopefully he doesn't get frustrated from their standpoint and he can he can can you continue to generate his opportunities and Fresno can stay stay engaged in this match long ball this is gonna get there Santo yo looking to entered in he's looking for a goes and that has been the combination early on for the mountains that it's wreaked havoc for Fresno City great synergy between the Mounties here and that ball nearly squirts through ray Goza looking for a runner and can't find them well it's an early barrage here and you have to really like where you're at if you're the Mounties you have two of your top bowl scores about to come in and you have controlled this game throughout and they've their possession oriented team not that that Fresno is not but Fresno is willing to play a little more quick strike up top for Monty and Tony's have more the possession and not only that I think they have a good read on how they're going to attack them Fresno's back four or five and they seem to have done that reasonably well so far so Fresno is gonna have to figure that out like Fresno still looking for an identity in the Mounties know exactly what they want to do Rodriguez can change that in a hurry still with a run and he's gonna be found this is gonna be a free kick in a dangerous spot in Fresno City now with an opportunity and that's the danger of Rodriguez if he doesn't get the opportunity off he drags the second defender in one of one of them was patient and clean on and the other one decides to step in and got a piece of leg so good opportunity from Fresno for Fresno here from about 30 so 30 yards out and coachman we saw a pretty good leg from Rodriguez early on a ball that went over the crossbar you have to expect that this is probably gonna be kicked in yeah I I think early it's we're in the 20th minute and I think right now it's a time for Rodriguez to just step onto it hit it and hit it on frame and and start to you know open other options up for later in the game Rodriguez indeed through the wall hits the bar and there you have Johny Rodriguez at his best and I think that went through the wall if I'm not mistaken it may have gone through the wall and if that's so that's that's a niche in the armor of mount sac see it again bring back to flatter one more time yeah he hit that that wall was either set up poorly that went to the left of the wall and hit the pose a player peeled out of there it looked like so good opportunity for Fresno Fresno again pressing the attack ball comes back for the Rams this is Armando Gonzales our Gonzales flanked by Rodriguez around Regas is gonna float this one in over the goal and there's Rodriguez pulling himself out of the middle and putting himself in position to give good service because he does give good service when we played them down to Fresno he had actually had one of assists on one of their goals and because he decided to pull himself out of the middle and trying to hide a little bit and they get him freed up for early for service into the box Mike Cepeda David Lana ret with you on today's coverage along with Jeff stone off Jeff with the call on games one and two Taft and Fresno punching their tickets to championship Sunday in the men's and women's brackets respectively Fresno the men trying to make it an old Fresno final two days from now 22nd minute here and this matchup a rematch of last year's state championship game an early advantage decidedly in favor of the Mounties but the Rams starting to get their feet under yeah them and I think the whole games gonna be like that I think it might look a little similar to our women's game previous to this Fresno versus Santiago Canyon where San Diago Keaney didn't have as much of the game in terms of possession but when they created opportunities they were very dangerous and I think you'll see that from today's match for mount sac we'll have more the ball more the possession because it's the way they like to play you don't still like the rhythm they like to play with but when you have Tony Rodriguez playing for you as does Fresno those opportunities they get or likely gonna be quality looking for Rodriguez over the top ball a little long and the passing just not as crisp early on here for the Rams and something we could expect in terms of the skill level usually very high for the Mounties and a little bit of a mixed bag early on here for Fresno counter opportunity for the Mounties that shot well off the mark off the foot of Jason Rocha it'll be interesting to see how we go along because we saw the change the the the energy level of the match change in the Cerreta staffed match and mount sac has come out with a really really high energy and pace not that Fresno has not but Fresno just doesn't seem to either be running with that kind of pace or they're just there containing it or they don't have it I'm not sure it is but that game was up and down you know frenetic pace and you could see it wear on the players much earlier than you'd expect in a game this late in the season opportunity here this is Santoya he's been very good so far in said toyo with good speed as well on the outside in pursuit as a Rams player he falls down this is gonna be a corner kick awarded to the Mounties I believe their third thus far I'm looking for a stat number I mean while I see that it's on the scoreboard this is number three so my unofficial that number holds true and Ponting and gamble I believe taunting will come on so indeed punting on him and coach interesting strategy here not that one no that's not pant Ponting and correct it's Andre Gamboa so Gamboa on immediately into the phrase the man that was in the intended recipient of that pass gets away from the Mounties goes to the hoenn possession taunting is still standing over there with a with a bib in his hand so he'll be the next player to come on for mount sac it's a turnover Morales looking for a handball and well the Mounties are gonna get awarded here oh it's interesting that he did he call that because I'm not sure what the hesitation was because if he's hauling advantage the ball gets through in the town of mount sac players foot in the attack and it just could mount sac was yelling for it so I'm not sure maybe he looked at his linesman as linesman gave him some help or he's got a headset on and he did that too but interesting the timing of that so this is a very dangerous spot here David already two shots on goal for the Mounties score this tie 26-minute this one right to Casa de hone Corral's it and we'll go back the other way that went off of the foot of or a cosa and that's a good target they're using Rodriguez to flick a ball and I think that's the way to do instead of trying to find him through or trying to find someone to play to him he's so good in the air and he's so athletic let him win the ball and flick it on which he did right there but they've got to get runners off it and then what happens is it that's a good opportunity for him to free himself of a mark and rather that was electricity as paya on that last free-kick and Diaz paya as I say that will come off and here comes Sam panting haunting the leading goal scorer on the season for the Balinese with 13 on the year he tends to play on the wide right when he doesn't play up front so what happens is when they push numbers he ends up looking like a high forward high wing player and he's dangerous on the ball he's got a little little bite to him he's from England he's an English kid and he's a fiery soul yeah he is that's that's a good word for it and he you know last year in the and it might have been the semi-final against Taft he got into a little bit and then just his fighting his spirit on the ball right here looking for a ball to score through the defense there for the ramps will go back the other way for Fresno City Rodriguez or check that not Rodriguez this is gonna go off of a Mountie player that was Matias or on a tie oh boy Oh Tahoe we'll figure it out I think it's not out but you're right we will figure that out but he's a good technical player but he's and and we only get this out a scouting report is he's a he's a good a good player when he's going he's got good work rate he's technically good but he runs out of gas pretty quick so maybe it's the reason why he's coming in off the bench and they're gonna they're gonna use him selectively Santo yo whistled for the foul no card and the game's starting to get a little bit more physical here coach I think this is where Fresno needs to keep their composure not get engaged with some of it Rodriguez are starting to a little bit and you know they don't need to show their frustration they need to they need to play and be composed and and and and not show that they're gonna get disrupted by that bonding with it on the far side pausing just a very versatile player very savvy very good technically he's got some moves talked about a very emotional very physical player putting himself very well last year in the championship run for the Mounties and obviously we talked about this is a rematch of the final last year and Fresno has been chomping at the bit they have not met this season and Rodriguez a member of that team a year ago you have to imagine that this is this is a game that he is highlighted all year the stage is set top seed from the north looking for their first championship in school history in the 3c2 a Fresno just seems to be a little bit a little bit off there their game in terms of first touch they've missed hit some balls and either that's coming from the pressure from mount sac I was gonna say maybe some early jitters yeah and I think maybe they put a little pressure on them else to think that they have to scrape ball to Gonzales it's good defending to good recovery defensively by the Mounties a terrific ball off of the foot of Rodriguez to set up Gonzalez but Gonzalez tracked down by the Mounties and it goes back the other way one more game after this it'll be fulsome Lake and Santa Barbara for the women's bracket and of course on Sunday we will have the finals for both the men's and the women your scene from mount sac as they pick a line sort of where they want to start to defend and if Fresno doesn't penetrate that every time a ball gets played negative they continue to step a little bit higher and it's not high press at that point but what they'll do is they're they'll try and bait you into turning your back or just when that one ball gets miss played the walk they'll all come as a unit so it's not high press initially it's a high line and then it becomes high press once you make a bad touch whether they're testing their boundaries in this hoping to break through and at some point you figure that's gonna happen Kosta hone already with a couple saves and when they do that there we go and here's one that leaks through that was nearly a hand ball in the box that would have resulted in a penalty you know when mount sac starts to press a little bit higher or stretch the lines a little bit that's where Fresno maybe needs to get out of their normal system and to try and find different players in different seams so they can unlock that a little bit and immediately put some numbers behind Fresno I mean behind mount sac the Sun sets here at the American River College soccer stadium that shot over the crossbar haunting with his first opportunity panting it's not shy with the ball no he will turn on one in a hurry and pretty adept of putting in the back of the net it's interesting to look at mount sac this year versus last year you know a lot of some different players of course because you know players moving on after two years but even some of the kids that were here last year that her back they've matured like Ponting looks like he's a little bit bigger a little more physically mature almost looks to be a little bit taller too and I mean he might be just my vision but in in that that tends to happen a kid goes from 18 to 19 or 19 to 20 or whatever whatever the age range is and does have some big hair so yeah maybe a little bit more volume is today yeah it does that thick hair a little bit of extra gel for the finer for the semi-final there you go you got to look good the finals we broke out the sports codes 33rd minute here Rodriguez looking to track one down and goes out of bounds I'm throwing before the Rams Fresno will bring bring someone who fourth and they'll typically have a player with a long throw and you know they'll look to play the body and when he throws it it gets deep into the box oh good opportunity for them to flick look for the second ball to get it on you know the question is here is do you run Rodriguez forward to win that ball in the air because it's so good and dragged a couple players with them or do you let him sit and try and win the second ball of the flicked ball coach what's the strategy behind bringing and punting and Gamboa off of the bench you know I have to wonder if it's just there's a heckler is but the goal here it is [Music] unbelievable a goal from the Rams let's see the replay here that's just an off the back of the head flick we'll go to the other camera shot angle that we have this one off of a set throw in peace we'll get a pretty good look of it it's just an unbelievably pit place ball and in the goalkeeper from mount sac has to know that ball is getting flicked but here comes all the way to the near post and he becomes vulnerable at the back post so really well-designed long throw in mount sac has to know that they have that in their arsenal and they didn't defend it very well how Fredo Lopez on the goal it's one and nothing the Rams on top of the Mounties maybe that's a situation where they're too worried about where Rodriguez is and they're looking for that him to play the ball on but you know that ball is not intentionally flicked in the goal it's just a product of trying to flick it to the back post yeah and then there's nothing there and it quickly back the other way the Mounties now awarded a corner cake as they fall behind one to nothing we talked about this Mounties really have controlled the game 33 minutes in but punching it in in the 34th minute is Alfredo Lopez what we'd expect me to expect mount mount sac to have more the ball and more possession in the game and Fresno to be a little more quick strike Rodriguez to work in transition and Rodriguez does a nice job there and to get the ball wide and now they can put numbers in the attack gets it why he puts a pretty good touch on it allows his player to catch up to it Rodriguez gets it back gives it over to the far side gets it off of a ricochet still working on it you see a nice move to his left turning on it freeing up his player Fresno within striking distance wide open player and this is Ken solace it squirts away second time already Fresno still can remains in possession of the ball not cleared out yet Fresno whiffs on it Gonzales had he had created a Rodriguez he create a little separation at the back post and they couldn't find him counter for the Mounties Rocha goes wide this will be a free-kick man I don't know about that he sold that pretty nicely but all of a sudden Fresno was another great opportunity the ball at the back post I think you saw him tighten up and tense up a little bit when he saw the space between him and the goal key of her first touch let it run wide and they weren't able to get that ball on frame soccer player embellishing a call comer hands and this has got to be I'm not sure the you know the in terms of the referees this is a high paced gaming and the way that this game will transition now and it'll open up our referee that sits in the middle is gonna have to gonna have to be on his fitness game today Ramos will enter it any as Ponting to his left ball comes in it's a free kick it's gonna go over the crossbar and back to the Rams dangerously not dangerous yeah if there's such a thing see the replay here Ramos with a pretty big leg but not a lot of accuracy I think it's a ball you just yeah I mean he's trying to be perfect with it instead of being perfect I think you need to just drive that and get it on frame if it's hit with some pace Castro hones not gonna hold on to it he's gonna knock it down can you have to run a second layer of players in there a they didn't do and B Fresno you know it turns and watches the ball so adjustments it may be mount sac can make it's Alfredo Lopez with a header to break the scoreless tie one nothing Fresno on top Campbell with well the intended target from Ponte goes out of bounds Lopez is there center back so Eric Solberg's decides to send a centre-back forward to win a to win a flick and they had a one of their outside there other the other back and going forward to take the throw I think yeah and then Lopez goes forward and to is is their target so really really well done from Fresno and if I'm not mistaken they scored on a similar fashion against West Valley to get to this point West Valley control that game in fact how to add a pretty good scatter import of that game from Matt Folsom PA announcer today and he's ESI D at West Valley said that time of possession in that game for West Valley was three to one but obviously by design that one goes in and if you look at Lopez pretty good size a very good size so a very good target on a plate of that design meanwhile here's ponting gets away from him and those long throws are not the easiest thing to deal with but I think from from a defensive standpoint when it's that deep and you know it's going in the Box in some ways you have to establish your defense you're defending like you would a corner kick and mount sac got drawn very far to the front post including their goalkeeper and that ball was just redirected for hopes of someone being at the back post and eventually it just over the top of the goalkeeper actually wasn't even in the close to the goalkeeper and just drops in so it's semi final Friday here on So Cal college sports comm the 2017 3c2 a soccer championships both men's and women's brackets this is Game two of the men's bracket 39th minute you know mount sac doesn't give up a lot of goals yeah Edwin Gutierrez one of the top goalies in the state of California and it was a mistake from Gutierrez that allowed the header from Lopez to get in Lopez loses it goes back to ponting check that Gamboa Gamboa loses it has it stolen back by Lopez Gamboa gets it back good back-and-forth here from the Mounties in the Rams ponting has switched now he is nearside so Gamboa and Ponting trade places we saw a bit of that from him last year against Fresno where he was on on different different sides of the feeling he can also play up top too so I though use ponting where they feel like they can get a maybe get a a mismatch or a better matchup against it you know a different player Lopes trying to avoid the corner unable to do so so another corner kick this will be the fourth corner kick of the half for the Mounties but they have been unable to capitalize this fog ball entered in does get in Estrada and we'll have that one go forward this is off of a hand this is gonna be a corner kick this goes off of a ram player well they're gonna say that went off of Fabian Mendoza so a fifth corner kick now awarded to the Mounties 41st minute dangerous ball Gamboa right there cleared out good release of pressure by Fred from Fresno not afraid to just release pressure and reorganize instead of trying to be cute at the back were in there the 40 41st minute we talked about in the first couple games for the last five minutes first five minutes and a half especially in the first beginning of second two to create momentum going in or out of of the break spunk it's away from ponting go it'll go back to Fresno you know you asked earlier right before the goal about the reasoning why you might use Gamboa and haunting off off the bench and maybe it's to get Fresno a little bit off balance because they're expecting okay here the two top goal scorers here's where they play and they they prepare for that and then all of a sudden they're not they're not on the on the field reality is mount sac is a deep team they've got good players so doing that is it's maybe throws Fresno off a little bit but then bringing them on there a little bit fresh and then I wouldn't be surprised to see those two starts the second half I think early on mission accomplished it like Fresno was searching for some kind of answer to get some type of momentum established but they kept on churning away and they find themselves up one to nothing on top of the defending state champion Mount San Antonio College Mounties and mount and and Fresno has decided to keep and they've done it the whole match so far is not put Tony Rodriguez back behind the ball they're leaving him high which is which means mount sac is sort of leaving players back where they might normally attack with eight they're out there holding three in the back so maybe tactically coach Eric Solberg from Fresno has decided to leave him high so he can occupy Fresno now so they decide to not put that extra player for it but if we get later in the match and it's 1:0 they're gonna send players and I think Rodriguez will come back and defend turnover in a bad spot here an opportunity for Fresno with possession deep in mountie territory here comes the defense converging it's gonna be a foul going back the other way that's pretty good swarming defense there from the Mounties yeah a good job by mount sac to take the ball and put it right back into play while the Fresno players is bickering about a little bit where that's where Fresno needs to be composed and realized the refs not going to change this colleges to go straight back and defend and instead of letting mount sac put the ball in and now you're chasing the game a little bit ball entered in San Toyo the intended target and he's gonna be taken down is that inside the box are just outside of it definitely just outside the box and in and this is this you see Sam haunting running straight over to the referee which I don't like that as a coach I don't I don't like that in any way when a player runs 30 or over and gets into in the face of the referee let him do his job but let your coaches get onto him a little bit if anyone needs to get on to him so good call by the referee and mount sac going at the back for fresno again which they've done since the beginning of the match and and they're starting to wreak Havok again in the final third phase Santos issue the yellow card on the tackle and this is a very dangerous spot as the first half wind down for Fresno up one nothing but the Mounties on knocking on the door with the free kick and now you have won a year back for your for defenders and one of your Center backs or when you're back for it for sure with a yellow card and and you it's hard to hard to defend against a team like this on a yellow card for the rest of the match here comes the kick and that one saved by Castro horn really well saved by Kozma horn good reaction good response and that's what mount sac nice is good they have to put that ball on frame and they have to make him save the ball as opposed to just knocking it over the top what a save we'll see it here on the replay that ball squirts free but Kosta Tejon again right there and he has been fantastic in the first half for Fresno really well read and and cleanly cleanly away from goal there's a tackle that will result in a free kick for the Rams has been stopped so we are in injury time here in the first half ball entered in off of the head off of Rodriguez Gutierrez and that's where he starts the counter and that's where even when Rodriguez is Definity he finds a way to unlock himself from a mount sac player he's so good he's so athletic know that he he knows how to time that run in that line to the ball and fight for it and deflect it feel really well done there Santo yo has ponting running on the near side ponting that ball headed away well defended by Daquan Sykes and the timing of that in mount sac loves that ball they love that that long diagonal ball to their wide midfield player of their 5 who comes forward gets into the attack very high and they love to probe and find that ball and try and hide him over there but Fresno knows that that's coming and that will do it for the first half one-nothing the defending state champion mount sac Mounties trail a quick change in the score book if you will on where the Lopez initially credited with the goal that Juan Alvarez who struck first blood here and sending final number two in the men's bracket to put Fresno up by one back in a moment with the start of the second half you are watching 2017 3c2 way soccer championships from Sacramento [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] about to get underway here start of the second half semi final number two of the men's bracket Fresno City top seed from north on top of the defending state champion 2 seed from the South Mount San Antonio College Mike slanted a bladder at with you on today's coverage with Jeff's going off man Henson the entire SoCal college sports comm crew happy you've joined us everybody spread the word www.calculated.com/support 1 same starters for mount sac interestingly enough you know we talked about in the first half all of a sudden haunting not on the field again to start the second half and I mean he wasn't overly dangerous money when he did come on and maybe they found a different a different 11 that they liked a little bit better against Fresno yeah well I thought they were more effective when they were utilizing the synergy between Jose Santo and Marty Ragosa Jason Rocha not nearly as effective when he was moved to the back row yeah cent Toyo was I thought was the most dangerous player in the first half Greece and San Antonio really for both teams if you think about it even more so than rodriguez rodriguez enters in far side like santos who seemed to find himself and seems and undefended and it was causing what's causing problems where you know rodriguez was always surrounded by two or three and again everybody not Alfredo Lopez on the go earlier that was Juan Alvarez who struck first blood here I believe that was in the 34th minute here we go again another long throw for Fresno this is how they scored their first goal long throw sent itself in the pot too and we'll have a takedown that will go against Fresno Mount tag tries to quick start it a good idea to play quickly but when you're ten yards away from where the follow us and you get that much advantage sometimes the referees not going to let you get away with no just underway here in the second half the Mounties looking for an equaliser found a really dominating time of possession for much of that first half and coach you expected that to be the case fresno which is so dangerous when they can establish an identity and and be very effective off of set pieces as well a hundred percent accurate in rodriguez great ball of either side this is Lopez Lopez let's see that one one more time selected maybe and had to be deflected unbelievable off of Michael Gonzalez let's see if we can catch it one more time just an unbelievable ricochet great ball from Rodriguez to split the back for get a half a chance take it deflected off of the foot of the Mount sac defender better to be lucky than good tuna nothing Fresno has mount sac on their heels and that is a dream start in the second half for Fresno first five minutes of the second half and Rodriguez free in the middle of the park with time on the ball and I'm absolutely floored that he has that much time Johnny Rodriguez on the ball because he's gonna find a seam and be very very dangerous we talked early on about Fresno trying to split the back for play diagonal balls to expose mount sac a little bit they did it right there terrific terrific opportunity is this Rodriguez on the pitch yeah he's down and does not look good and I don't know if there's it was something off the ball that we missed something away let's see if we can bring back a replay here Maddie maybe replay to all the way back now I think it's off-camera unfortunately we don't have a play here in Rodrigues visibly shaken something office looks like his right leg he's walking on don't know if it was maybe a charley horse on a collision that is a huge development something that Taft doesn't mind seeing they await the winner of this one and right now Fresno City in the driver's seat well coach is up to nothing here I mean I know it's early second half but completely changes the schematics of this going forward really for both teams right now very very different because now Fresno again you don't want to sit they want to play the way that they're playing they want to be compact defensively you know they don't want to sit just trying to absorb pressure from outside cuz that's not gonna work straightaway so you have to play for a little while and not get complacent because all of a sudden and we've always said this it's sort of a weird thing with us coaches or take two nothing is the worst lead you can have but I'd rather lead to zero then then lead 1-0 but Mount sax got a play for one they have to get the first one and then and then not worry about anything more than that because if they get one and you know there we know they're in the game and we know they're creating opportunity Rodriguez not on the pitch right now see if we can send Jeff stone off over to the trainer's table and see if he can get a report from the far side of the field meanwhile another diagonal ball this time on the foot of Michael Gonzales and Gonzales will try to start an attack for the Mounties still with the ball gives off Diaz Piatt in the middle flick ball into the middle and quickly corralled by Kosta horn I don't have to see if what kind of changes Fresno may be made in the back not in terms of who they're playing but how they're playing and and not exposing those seams to the back for that that amount sack was able to get through on so Johnny Rodriguez again on the sidelines don't know his status coming back lead goal scorer in the state of California Fresno might not need him the rest of the way they'd love to have him for Sunday obviously in the final potentially with a matchup versus Taft this is one of those situations where you don't you know if you can if you don't give up any goals you don't need his goalscoring you know you know he's very athletic and he's good in the air so you sort of like him to have that or when you're going forward that he can hold the ball and and they need that that presence up front but they're in a luxury right now being to zero up that if he's they're not quite sure on him you know and it may not be the end of the season then you save him and sort that whatever injury or knock that he has out and then you also save him 40 minutes of playing where he's a little bit fresher against that after played 120 minutes obviously a lot of time to play here but you suspect that if mount sac were to get on the board here at some point in the near future you might see Rodriguez back on the pitch I would agree if he can play he's gonna play now that ball entered in quickly corralled by Edwin Gutierrez Gutierrez just really unlucky on a couple of goals by Fresno - nothing the Rams on top of the Mounties in coach this is a bit of a shocking development I know Fresno comes in very good this season they are playing the defending state champs and he didn't really expect this result this far but that's that's Fresno they don't always have a lot of the ball against a team that plays the way that mount sac does a mount sac just likes to have the ball they had their opportunities now castle horn with the tremendous save in the first half to keep it 1-0 and you know they take advantage of mount sac not marking Rodriguez tight enough he finds a seam enters into the middle that's a very dangerous ball not cleared out Diaz Piatt tries to enter it in back and forth physical play Fresno and this is where they'll miss Rodriguez someone up high to hold the ball and let them get numbers forward so this that will be a big vacancy right there for them in terms of holding possession and trying to hang on to this 2-0 lead yeah Aguilera trying to fill those shoes loses it on the far side to the Mounties will now have possession I think intelligently they moved a Quan Sykes up front instead of playing him wide so that he can cause a little bit of havoc with his speed yeah against the back three of mount sac whether it be attacking or defensive and maybe just give a different different bit of a look for mild shock he was pretty dangerous in that first half are really creating some space in the middle and we'll see how they deploy him in the middle now - Rodriguez said piece gets away Fresno now with possession the Rams will move it ahead ball headed near side - Sykes Daquan plays it back Fresno try and give the Mounties a little bit of their own medicine they turned it over and that's again I'll say it there that's another slide back to Fresno Regas Fresno with some momentum ball entered in and that that's a ball that's entered in that if Regas is in the game it's a lot more dangerous a lot more dangerous because a if he receives that he can hold it or if he's if he's attracting more defenders it opens other other players up Alvarez and Lopez on the goals tonight for the Rams the women through the to the final with a win over Santiago Canyon in Game two of our coverage this is Game three Game four tonight Santa Barbara and Folsom Lake in the women's bracket Lopez the second leading goal scorer for Fresno behind well behind Rodriguez but most people are well behind Rodriguez yeah they have a they have a two-headed monster but one head is bigger than the other true in Fresno but saying maybe like a conjoined twin or something something like that exactly I'd hate for that to be the descriptive moniker mount sac meanwhile pressing a ball played back Gonzales with an opportunity crosses it goes over the goal a prime opportunity for Jason Rocha coming in from the weak side Gonzales played it beautifully and let's see it again on the replay here slide it all the way back too far back all the way back now terrific opportunity for mount sac there just needed to redirect that and just keep it on frame and well over the top 57th minute 2-0 Fresno should be 2-1 Rocha missing out well if this score line holds in any way mount sac sure as heck isn't gonna say they didn't have their opportunity yeah oftentimes especially in this games it's it's a matter of missed opportunities especially for a team that likes to possess it as much as mount sac and I'm I'm just I'm really surprised here coach obviously we saw that the the tandem of Ray goes and Santo in the first half was very effective but you take 25 goals out of your lineup and Ponting and Gamboa and obviously you lose potency up front I would III agree with that they know their program and they know their team but those two just didn't play a heck of a lot in the first half and as you said it's more than 50% of their goals a lot of to players but they didn't get a lot of touches in the first half and there's Rodriguez it's actually back in the game right there so Johnny back in plays a dangerous ball and he's free at the back post right now Lopez on it looking for the bad post trying to win a corner and he will so pick a job by Manuel Lopez already with a goal today and wins another set piece here for the Rams I found it interesting that Rodriguez his wife quite frequently has found himself without a really tight mark and that's surprising from mount sac that they let him roam free a little bit as he came off I thought Johnny maybe at winked an ankle try to run Lopez here comes the corner kick dangerous ball and Gutierrez right on top of it and well taken by Gutierrez rough night for Gutierrez only three shots on goal for the Rams only one save it's two to nothing meanwhile Kosta hone has been magnificent four saves and two of those should have been goals for the Mounties fabian mendoza plays it back they're looking for Sykes up ahead Sykes still playing in the middle alongside rodriguez rodriguez now with it nobody converges he's holding up front ins a miscommunication between Rodriguez and Covarrubias Rubeus needs to just hold himself wide there and stretch the game and let Rodriguez do his thing and if he draws that second defender he easily slots it through and then they're in behind mount sac so Rodriguez intelligently holding the ball Rubeus needs to be a little bit more patient coach I I mean I don't I don't mean to harp on anything I mean notnot Gamboa no Ponting you're playing with the next man up san Antonio's been pretty good I don't really see a lot of sense of urgency here from the Mounties down to nothing in the second half you see a high work rate but you don't you don't like you said you don't see the sort of urgency maybe they feel okay we can get to in 30 minutes you saw just a little bit a couple minutes ago where they started to press the back for a Fresno a little bit and I think they have to I think they're suspect maybe in the back if they get too much pressure in terms of the distribution we've seen a little bit of that and I think mount sac has to start to press to get one back right now so they're not trying to get to in the last ten minutes it's tough to second-guess a guy like Juan Sanchez head coach for the Mounties obviously his record and his is accolade to speak for themselves defending state champ they have a lot of state championships under their belt at Mount San Antonio College in men's soccer but right now where do you find the offense obviously a lot of skill players here San Antonio at the top turns on one and it's wide left and I agree but and you just saw right there as you were speaking they were putting more they put more presents high on the back for Fresno they actually had five players sitting on the back for Fresno and essentially what they do is they hold that back line and one of those players steps back and receives the ball and he has a little bit of time and that's how they were able to recycle and change the point of attack and get that as an end result so are you implying that they heard me I think they heard you I've been I've been told that my voice does carry telepathically maybe by this now you start to see that urgency in terms of just the numbers that they employ forward maybe not so much in a panic urgency but like hey we've got to put some numbers starting to get late early here that ball squirts through opportunity here on the far side that ball saved by Gutierrez Rodriguez steals anything back in none of that idea is trying to catch Gutierrez off-guard good two-way action there and what a tremendous save one of the top goalies in the state of California Edwin Gutierrez that's the maybe third or fourth time we've seen it here in the second half that Rodriguez has received the ball in front of the back three behind that five so in the scene there and in in between the two layers and he's had time to turn it and take players on so Johnny Rodriguez finding seams and able to receive the ball and turn it without too much pressure Johnny Rodriguez hasn't been johnny-on-the-spot yet but he's been very effective in making other players around him better fresno up to - nothing and i think eric Solberg for fresno they've done a good job of not you know getting him on the ball but also letting him facilitate the game a little bit and I think that's that's the way that the better players that the better players need to do it at some point Rodriguez on the season 13 assists that leads the team we talked about the gaudy point total 59 points total Gonzales on the ball flicked in Gamboa now into the ball game enters the inside this ball is cleared out nicely by the fresno defense Cambo immediately dangerous not a shocker to see that 17 minutes in almost 18 minutes into the second half and Sam ponting still still sitting on the bench well coach you said you know you mentioned about an altercation with Gonzales looking to squirt for your head of a pack looked like that was a take that should be found going back the other way they're gonna call fall whistle on the field the corner kick it looks like Holly I heard a whistle I thought before the ball went out but they will award a corner kick to the Mounties Gonzales and there's it it's a quick start Diaz Piatt looking for again boy it can't get through meanwhile here's Sykes Sykes touch pass Rodriguez in sides two and two numbers for the Rams Rodriguez still with it after the deflection far side ball entered in header merely there Gutierrez does get a hand on it a dangerous ball in Aguilera nearly had number three for the Rams once again Rodriguez on the ball with time and space and he just normally is gonna find Sikes on that little that little threw ball and played it right into the foot of the Mount sack player Fresno so composed what a great header from Rodriguez to Sykes Sikes looking get it back to Johnny Johnny late getting there ball stays with the Rams is it does not get cleared out effectively Rodriguez now with it looking to enter it in has the pass stolen that's a nice job by Estrada on the defensive line yeah Rodriguez so crafty on and off the ball he baits his time awaits his time and finds his moments and and when he's gonna take it in and he's been very good about sack looking the counter they do have pretty good numbers up front now they bring Gonzales here near side will they find them and try to circle it back in on the ball now this is Diaz pyah pyah plays it back Gamboa on the far side Gamboa high ball looking for gonzalez and this one's gonna get away it looks like Gonzales able to track it down prevent it from going out you will play it back Sykes quick to recover defensively for the Rams Scott brachii but actually taken down no foul called Sykes has been playing up front he tracks all the way back really really well to defend that Kochi the the first thing evident was Sykes on the field is his speed probably the fastest player on the pitch Rodriguez looking to close defensively and back the other way we go here for the Rams Rams decent numbers here's Rodriguez Covarrubias he'll play it back and now things start to get a little deliberate here for the Rams up two goals 65th minute now is the time where Fresno needs to be a little bit patient on the ball when they have the opportunity as mount sac starts to press a little bit more those seams will start to open up and if they can stay active and then find balls in the seam unlike that ball right there now they just need to be a little bit patient if the extra touch is there to take it to make sure they find players in the seam to not give the ball away because their mount sac is just gonna come straight back at him with numbers looking for Gamboa up ahead still no Ponting here in the second half for the Mounties the Rams so composure to coach you talked about the communication factor Sykes plays it up looking for Rodriguez Gutierrez comes out in a cycle Sykes has a downside that's the his the way that he waits the ball isn't quite as he gets used to Rodriguez and the way he plays a ball but Sykes is his pace and and that part of his game is really collagen we see an altercation here near side between Gonzales and there's the frustration - mount sac may be starting to come in the forefront is that gone - oh listen number nine yeah that's better Manuel Lopez oh no yep Gonzales the number nine took a took a little crack at him surprised the referee maybe didn't didn't show a yellow after that yeah that that did not look like a love tap to the shin guard of Alex Covarrubias Gamboa looking to flick one over the head Kosta on and on but it's not having any of it easily dealt with positionally very very good he's composed he's met up a very good match that big save that he had in the first time he was impress upon I mean it looked like it was gonna be an early goal for the Mounties and that's throwing stone de gamboa looking to enter in defense very good was not cleared out Kambo looking to receive it free men on the far side shot in there wide right you know but before that just happened before that happened I was actually gonna say how amount I thought that Fresno has been a little bit a little bit cleaner with their back for and limiting some of the opportunities that they gave up in the first half no not that time and the Rams get away with one and that's not so much they're back for that assignment probably was was there outside midfielder from that far side needed to track and I'm not sure where he was I think he was probably pinched a little bit in the middle trying to account for some of the numbers in mount sac carries and they're three five two I mean here comes the most potent lineup on the pitch the mount sac can throw at the Rams is Ponting back into the fold Rodriguez plays it back Alvarez there's that composure again that we talked about alvarez lacking composure sends it to the wrong team that's a terrific run by Rocha did Rocha just win a corner kick now Alvarez it's the second time he's played a ball where maybe didn't need to play it early and he feels some pressure to play it a little bit of happy feet their coach gets dispossessed by mount sac and I said earlier soon as mount sac dispossesses you down 2-0 they're coming with numbers dangerous ball bend it in off of the foot of Rocha it's cleared out Santo yo 12 goals this season 12 goals for Gamboa 13 goals for Ponting all three on the pitch right now for the Mounties down two goals in the semi-final the three c28 championships here at American River College Rodriguez looking to play it ahead that would have been a terrific ball but right there for the Mounties Jason Ramos Ramos trying to start it back the other way Gamboa off of his head Kosta horn is so crafty and athletic I think there's probably times on the field where he see things sees things develop quickly yeah that may be the other his other players or his teammates that they take a couple of seconds longer to see it process and yeah he's playing chess and everybody else is playing checkers yep Rodriguez heads it ahead I think he here and some of the professional sports will talk about I think for him sometimes the way that he plays why gives up the game slows down yeah oh that's you know that's just the evolution of a player you know one head a head one player ahead of the curve so see the flag go up in the far side so this is gonna be a free-kick awarded to the Rams it's another another fall and see I'm assuming a fall off the ball yeah actually I think it happened on the ball but it was a late whistle wasn't considered a foul call from the main referee maybe something missed that was from the backside but it was the it was a side judge that had the flag up that issued the free kick a little bit closer to it right in front of him be nervous to see if they've looked for Rodriguez on the first ball or a few weights and plays on the second one balls on the ground Rodriguez receives it he's still on it so crafty as you said coach still on it goes off of a Mountie player the possession will stay with the Rams it'll be a throw-in and this is a spot very dangerous we've seen already that resulted in a goal from Juan Alvarez as a as a as a coach there's certain things you have when you have a player like Johnny Rodriguez that you don't teach him he teaches you a little bit about the game and you just have to let him do his thing but put him in the best positions you can tactically so he can you make the most of him throw in from Aguilera look like Alvarez looking to head that back and flick it back like he did before not on goal looking for a ram player instead its back the other way here's Gamboa Gamboa to the far side Mounties looking to counter here down to nothing and dire straits were in the 72nd minute it's a steal Rodriguez ahead of the pack Gutierrez away from his post backtracking Scot brachii Rodriguez one-on-one that's terrific defense from brachii but they're not away from it yet Rodriguez enters in dangerous ball it'll be kicked out the Mounties avoid disaster well defended all around from Mount San Antonio on the on the ball and then the retreating defender to help the goalkeeper with it as well so really don't well done by mount sac to understand who's on the ball and also to understand that Sykes is is coming back post and actually Fresno not coming with a lot of numbers at that point just with two Alvarez commits a foul so the Mounties will be awarded possession they go cross field Estrada looking to kick it ahead dangerous ball in the middle San Antonio just wide right that was a terrific effort from the far side ball just a little bit high for him he doesn't get a lot of power on it so it would have taken a lot to beat Kosta home from that point we'll have a substitution as irani Dillo Santos will check into the ballgame for the Mounties haunting moves to the left side we saw him do that in the first half one from one side to the other Santo yo looking to control de los santos plays it back to santo yo 74th minute the Rams looking to dethrone San Antonio College ponting with it an area where he can be very dangerous it gets away from coach it obviously we know the element of danger that pontine can present but unable to really muster up anything here tonight there seems to be something within within his game and maybe it's he's coming off the bench and he doesn't like that but he doesn't hasn't been effective to this point you know and you know how that goes as soon as you talk about somebody in that standpoint and they come on and and all of a sudden they're incredibly dangerous but to this point he hasn't been very effective this evening not not somebody who you would expect to be 35 points scored on the season 13 goals nine assists opportunity here Gamboa on it Gamboa and Toya are the two that have been have been most effective together playing with each other and plating Gamboa has he ricochet off of his foot it's gonna be a goal kick well what we seem to be seeing is a lot of times is that sent Toya and Gamboa have been on the same side of the field in combination and Ponting is on the opposite side so maybe he's been the beneficiary of that of that that combination on one side were they dragged players into them and ponting is able to get on balls on the on the on the weak side cuz he tends to play in that wide midfield spot and gets high so maybe he's been the on the receiving end of some of the service from those two and play is stagnated really from both sides your coach obviously advantage Fresno they'll take it mounts tax sack still playing with a with a high rate but a little bit less technically proficient than maybe they they were playing with early in the first half Gus Tejon tracks it down another dangerous ball out and committed to that so really well done by him to stay with it five saves on the evening from this Rams looking for the coffin nail I'll enter it in dangerous spot Rodriguez right there and this is that's actually a good call by the referee went in one of his boots was Mike's job caught him on the foot soldier pretty pretty quick pretty easy call for the referee San Antonio now with it has that ball stolen very impressed with the defense here today for the Rams here coach you know I think they sorted out some of the problems that they had in the first half where mount sac was getting in behind him and getting through there back for and they've been they've been much better in the second half except for one or two two opportunities from mount sac so credit to Fresno for whatever changes that they made they look a little bit more compact and not so stretched out at the back in the second half mill aguilera enter in I also wonder too if they made it they're trying to make a concerted effort to find Rodriguez a little bit more and find his feet because it appear they have done that pontine with a nice run he will win a corner kick now that looks to be like it's got a cramp written all over it a little dubious there that's something where he I think ponting is trying to initiate a quick corner kick and there's there's Sam is always trying to get involved trying to tell the ref you saw him pointing at his wrist right there trying to hey you're gonna hold time and I'm sure the ref is like yeah of course I'm gonna hold time that's what I'm here to do but that's that's the way Sam likes to do it hi there might have been a couple choice words describing the authenticity of the cramp yeah something like that I'm sure that that's a possibility probably said in a very thick British accent so maybe not understood so well either right probably to the benefit of Sam Ponting in the Mounties 79th minute here 12 minutes plus a little bit of extra which may be a couple or three at this point they do have to take him off though they're gonna I didn't bring anybody on so oh yeah they do they're gonna bring another player on so let's make sure they have they have ten of their all 11 on and ten field players the hoenn bats that away not out of harm's way though it stays near the box Santo yo looking to enter it in nobody home Santo yo tracks you down again heads it forward now finally cleared out by the Rams another tremendous effort Juan Alvarez I think we're getting to the point now with 11 minutes plus a little injury left where Fresno is gonna be really selective about how and who they go forward with so it's that point now 11 minutes plus injury 2-0 up and here comes the pressure from mount sac another set piece awarded to the Mounties just the ninth corner kick for mount sac pontine gets a head on it looking to fire one in that looked to be a hand ball sand Toyo arguing that it should have been can we maybe see a replay here Matt see if we can catch it here off of the head of Ponting she's Santoya just Zweifel one in and that was off of the elbow yeah looks like he turned his back and it looked like it hit the back of his elbow was all elbows were right by the side of his body that was if you give a ham ball on that one that's gonna be a that's that's a tough one to call would it be the correct call though I don't think so is because his his arms if it's our if his elbow was out from his body but it was away in an unnatural position absolutely but his elbow is tight to his body and hit the back of his elbow I'm sure mount sac is gonna call for it but I don't think dangerous ball ponting turns on it the deflection is it in Oh interests no ruling initially the linesman pointed at it it looks like and it's a goal Matt let's see a replay here let's see if we can get one in - one two - one looks like it crossed the lighter back one more time that one and the score and the lead cut in half for the Rams nothing pretty about it but a ball in and haunting miss hits a little bit of ball doesn't get it on frame like you wants to but the deflection there and then we talk about the second layer of players winning knock down ball is a second the second ball that and the and the deflection that come out mount san antonio on top of it draw one back in the 80th 81st minute we talked about the pressure now being ratcheted up by the Mounties we said earlier - you can't play for - you have to get the first one now they have the first one and they're gonna have probably like 10 plus minutes 1213 minutes maybe to get to get a second one to draw this one even this is going to be frenetic here Early's early indication is that andre Gamboa was the player who scored the goal so tough on that end get a clear number and we have a flag up so go back to the Mounties wouldn't be a shocker Gamboa as we said tied for second goal scored on the season Mounties and with position Bochy interesting to see Mount Fresno stretched out a little bit they're trying to put pressure that high high in the in the 3rd of mount sac which opens up seems for mount sac responding I think they need to be careful with the lead that ball cleared out Rodriguez chest hit back well done by Rodriguez to receive it but in second touch not great but he also didn't have really any support off the ball so they're gonna play that they have to support him a little bit so they can possess and not necessarily kill the game but just take the wind out of mount sac which Nooksack it just seems to be running at them on full throttle right now miscommunication between Gamboa and Ponting and he goes back to the Rams here 84th minute and it was Andre Gamboa from Sam punting on the goal for Mount San Antonio College spread the word everybody wwl cal college sports comm also on our youtube channel so cal college sports one friends and family from a watch that from around the globe can watch live two years ago mount sac in the semi-final against evergreen valley was to zero down and drew one back two to one but this game has a different look to it i think that mount sac is an in that game they didn't seem to play with a lot of with a lot of perversion stuff like that i was almost surprised with the lack with a lack of that and a little bit of casualness but definitely definitely not the case here today to this is a different mount sac team was that the ends at college i remember that well coach and I think you're exactly right I think the the potency of this lineup as we've talked about throughout this match is so dangerous and so high another ball Santo yo looking to catch fast Idahoan out of place there with San Antonio dangerous is sort of a half a half chance but Castro hoenn sees it going wide and also the player they have on the back post who just told him that this is this is gonna go wide so referee doing a good job he's gonna he knows the situation in time come straight forward and ask Castro home to make sure he doesn't kill the game a bit he might even be worth taking a yellow at this point if you do want to kill it a little bit but there's still some time left for mount sac another eight minutes maybe you maybe five plus the extra been a well officiated game I would agree I think both games the game early this morning to the referees imposed what they were gonna call on the game early on Rodriguez by himself looking to operate here holds turns really well done gives it over to Aguilera Aguilera tries to catch Gutierrez off guard Gutierrez with another save I think the better the better option there is to play that ball wide and hold possession a little bit for mount sac but the shot on goal doesn't really do them any good from that distance Goodyear is a good goalkeeper and he spilled it a little bit but it doesn't it's not gonna be really dangerous from that point this is where you know Fresno has to be smart about when they can take the opportunity to take an extra 30 seconds to a minute a minute from the game they need to do that head referee Michael saman along with Francisco Linares and Alex Delgado comes to throwing deep in their end looks like their robberies had a little bit too much of whatever's whatever's coming from the Mount San Antonio bench yeah probably a lot of chatter I'm sure it's not all that positive I think in the in the end I think he's done a really really good job I think so too I tend to be pretty critical of referees mainly because of the problem of work rate or lack of work grade and maybe not understanding how a particular game or particular match is being played and I think he's done a really nice job tonight 12th corner kick now issued to mount sac that's no wonder you and I get along I myself also very critical referees throughout our coverage meant for for me whether its coverage or whether I'm on the sidelines it's the only thing I like to look for with a that missed work rate and Rodriguez on the counter Rodriguez with a pretty good run has a player on the far side will he give it up he does magnificent ball one-on-one shot in Gutierrez a terrific save then he stones da-da-da-dah hole a little bit casual on the finish from the oh-ho-ho a team on the doorstep and Gutierrez will see the replay of one more time he gets so crafty he draws the second defender in and then lays it in behind him yeah I think about out who goes cross instead of to the to the near post I agree maybe even get it taken another touches and agree the errors come is already running out him he takes another touch and maybe fainted at kicking a shot in and put completely get the keeper out of his place Gutierrez already committed meanwhile back the other way live action for the Mounties San Antonio looking to flick one in this one goes to the shot to the football stadium sent Toyo who may be starting to feel the pressure of the 88th minute and earlier in the match that ball is a nice driven ball in the box or a second touch to deliver a good ball into the box and I think he felt a little bit of pressure to release that straightaway we are late in semi final number two of the men's bracket the winner of this match will meet Taft in the final nine a.m. no 10 a.m. rather on Sunday we will have coverage of that for you if this one does happen to end after 90 maybe advantage a little bit to Fresno on Sunday because of the overtime well bonk it Santo yo like this one maybe went off of Santoya possession will stay with the Mounties but on chi days it for this one on the end line it's gonna go to the Rams a little sloppy there from Dillon Santos you go back to that one view that 1v1 that Fresno just had and you that one steals it that's that's game over at that point and mount sac still with a lifeline here we're in the 89th and excuse me the 90th minute well we will have a hold here we're gonna have we have a card issued coach that's pretty weak yellow I don't know where that came from maybe something building up there so a yellow card is issued there's something from earlier yes the ball away I didn't I didn't quite see it and you know he's done a good job and I can't argue in the mid gotta give me benefited out at this point go oh yes control of it is issued the yellow possession will stay here with the Rams well coach when we didn't have some stoppages in play how many minutes what do you suspect will be thrown up there for I haven't seen up but I'm thinking three or four minutes in stoppage time here and then semi-final the second of the day so where we need the board from across the way from the fourth referee just give us the number I haven't seen do they have a board they do not maybe next year mount sac will throw it in Ponting plays it back kicked up ahead needs to start coming with numbers here Diaz paya holding up the Rams little activity off the ball from from mount sac Covarrubias take him down in a heap is this gonna be a free kick and that's gonna be a free kick now he's gonna give a card that he saw from behind the ball earlier he did play on but he's pulled the card he's gonna show it to mount sax number 10 with a little little behind the ball or after the after the play activity Diaz paya for lack of better terms a little bit of a cheap shot I think he's coming up with another card here because I thought that was a pretty cheap take down from delos Santos this is a free kick issued you know where a corner kick would normally be well into injury time right now and Fresno needs to be careful in terms of holding the ball at here and this is this is where teams start to take a Liberty in terms of tackling someone after they let the game get away from him so I think intelligently Rodriguez was not out in the corner on the ball and two other players that were that were doing the dirty work per se didn't prevent Rodriguez from trying to go and track that down I agree obviously gamer wall squirts ahead this is ponting ponting trying to start the break ponting still on the ball fresno just has an incredible run san toyo trying to turn on one no nearside de los santos off the crossbar Wow we'll see the replay unbelievable opportunity second player and second defender got dragged in oh I'd open it's a great driven ball into the back post was that Ray cosas with the near miss unbelievable I believe that was Ray goes and the one that would have tied it up and enforced extras would have been our third extra of the game meanwhile Sikes into the ballgame his speed on the outside well will go out of play referee starting to look at its watch here in injury time Fresno players up off the bench up near the the edge of the technical area in there getting ready you can steal the seal this is likely gonna be the last hurrah for the Mounties all headed up Gamboa trying to win it ponting looking to win it flag is up it will stay with the Mounties throw in from mount sac on the far side and that will do it fresno through to the final and championship Sunday the Mounties dethroned here in 2017 an unbelievable opportunity to tie it up in stoppage time goes off of the crossbar and we will have a new champion this season crowned on Sunday it will be fresno top seed from the north and taft an all North final here in 2017 not only an all North final but in all Central Valley League co-champions from 2017 in the final so yeah one of the points I wanted to make coming into today was only two conferences represented in the men's bracket we just talked about Central Valley and then obviously the South Coast Conference are represented by both mount sac and Cerritos your final Fresno on top of mount sac two to one that'll do it for our coverage here in Game three of our coverage Game four coming up Santa Barbara Folsom Lake second semi-final on the women's bracket thank you for watching everybody we'll see on Sunday in the men's bracket 10:00 a.m. [Music]
