hey guys welcome back so we have a broken bail here I believe this is off of 627 cat scraper see our failure it doesn't appear it failed on the weld it seemed like a material failure but it's probably due to operator air turning under a load or something of that nature so basically we're just going to cut this clean that up cut this tube out here and then replace it with a new tube we're going to leave that side alone but we are going to clean all this up and uh do a crack test make sure there's no cracks present so pretty straightforward um I don't have a jig for the smaller one but I do have a jig for the bigger ones the 37s and the 57s but I have the measurements of what it's supposed to be so we'll kind of probably make something up on the table for this project just to make sure the eye the eyes go back in the correct location so all right well let's get to uh cutting and gouging here okay so the first machine we're going to use on this hypothermal found it at the scrapyard so we are basically just going to cut cut away at this until we um get really close to the Weld and then we will switch over to gouging and then gouge the rest of that back basically there should be a right in the center that weld there should be like a little shoulder kind of thing that the tube will like slide over so we'll see if we can expose that I can tell this has been built or these tubes have been replaced at least two or three times so so I don't know if it's on there some guys just take a saw and just cut it right down the center of the Weld and just butt weld it I suppose that would be work as well but we're going to cut that out kind of gouge it look at it and then uh just get it cleaned up and yeah pretty pretty straightforward job here [Music] [Music] [Applause] is [Applause] St [Music] for okay so we kind of got everything cut a good terminology for this is we've got all the fat trimmed off of our piece and now we're going to come in um with a pairing knife with a gouging and we're going to very detailed trim our piece before we throw it in the oven okay so this piece there was no step on the side like the other piece has so I did I cut it at the length that it was cut off before I can see like a band saw Mark and then I just beveled the weld back so that will be our bevel obviously we're going to have to clean that up with a grinder but that'll be our uh our bevel fit and then the new tube will also bevel that but this one you can see how that piece kind of sticks out so the tube kind of has something to like sit on probably helped align it when they did it Factory so now we're going to remove this weld to hopefully remove any you know impurities or anything that's in there you know it's going to give us our our bevel for our weld but it's also going to um you know you don't really want to rely on someone else's weld I mean who knows that could be original cat weld buried in there somewhere we'll try to get all that out that we can put fresh clean weld in there so we know it's nice and nice and good okay let's uh get the gouging okay we got her all gouged back you can see that that lip I was talking about there so we're going to run over this with the hard wheel and then we'll probably um hit it with the cubitron after that I'm going to use the hard wheel first to hopefully break off some of this like this Mill scale type stuff like the slag cuz cuz that's a little bit hard on the cubitron and they're you know fairly expensive and the hard wheel actually cuts through that a little bit better being inconsistent so we're going to hard wheeel cubitron get our measurement start doing the piece um you can probably hear in my voice I do sound kind of sick and not really feeling too well today but tried sitting in the house and just can't can't take it you got to got to come do something so figured this is a nice easy project to kind of take my time on and knock it out so all right let's get to grinding [Music] okay see that piece nice and clean that's perfect so now we're going to clean up that that side same process hard wheel than cubitron um cubitron are amazing sanding Wheels grinding wheels everything 3M cubitron is just amazing so a lot of this is available in my Amazon store if you can't find it the Mercer backing pad um you will not regret buying it so all right let's get that one cleaned up okay so we got this side all cleaned up probably hit the inside there with the Dig grinder so now we're going to clean the table off and then get the ears mocked up um in the correct location and then we will uh cut our tube okay we got this shimmed into place where I think everything is going to line up just right it's kind of hard to go off there's nothing really square but like those faces are square to each other and then the it's obviously I have the the center to Center measurement that's dead on that's the most important part and then we have the bar in here cuz these are spherical bearings so if the other side was pulling on it a little bit you'd see it and uh you can see it's nice and straight so being spherical bearings this could be off a decent amount and it would still work I I think there's like a/ inch on each side if I remember right so there's there's a lot of room to play here but obviously want to get it as close as possible to avoid binding and anything like that and then if you're wondering what this is this is where the ram mounts and it pulls back and lifts the bail up do so all right let's get our piece cut and then beveled and stick her in [Applause] there okay so we got our tube cut and uh prepped a little bit so this side we're going to do a bubble on this side this side we're not going to really do a bubble because it doesn't need it you'll understand here in a second um yeah we got the M scale ground off we got nice nice little bble just use a cubitron hit that just took a couple minutes so all right let's get this in there then we got 38 worth of shims that I think needs to sit right there so it should should be just right okay you can see we got a real nice nice Gap nice nice landing everything right there looks pretty good be a real nice rout pass and that one we don't need a bevel because we will easily be able to reach right in there and tie that root together so beving this would not give you any more strength on this particular situation okay we're going to probably tack it together with hard wire and then uh get some dual Shield [Music] [Music] okay we got a route pass in there with hard wire makes a really nice route pass and uh now we're going to weld it out dual Shield Lincoln 71 a75 1116 running at about 25 volts and 350% on The Wire [Music] all right we got that basically this side welded and couple of the high spots got those sanded down we look good okay now we're basically just have to flip it over and just weld that little bit on the top there and uh clean her up check the type of cracks and paint it just a little bit of clean up be perfect all right let's get her welded okay so it's the next day I just was feeling too bad couldn't finish it it but upon flipping this over we can definitely see it's cracked right there so now we're going to gouge that out and uh weld that up too welds aren't perfect but not too bad okay so we're uh gouge that and then you know we're still going to clean all this off and we'll use our die penetrant to check just to kind of confirm there's nothing else going on there and then we're going to clean it all up and paint it for so that crack was a surface crack it didn't go all the way through but it gouges out a little bit deeper just in case so we're going to get that welded up now and then get it cleaned off [Laughter] [Music] okay we're going to use our die penetrant to check to see if there's any cracks that we could not see so you start with a cleaner you spray on the die wipe it off and then you spray on the the developer so we're going to start with the cleaner let that dry it dries pretty quick now you spray the dye it's kind of like a candy apple paint make sure that's dry okay and we'll let that sit for about at least 5 minutes we wipe the Dy off off of everything on the surface let that dry for a second hopefully this is then you spray the developer and see all the [Music] impurities [Applause] for for I don't see anything you can see like the red comes through but it's not a crack it's more of like a cold lap on the W so all right we get this cleaned up and get it painted well there you go finished product now I can put it on their machine it'll look nice and clean for for day or so right up into the lather and grease yeah this will all get covered in grease and dirt in one or two days all right let's uh we're going to let it dry like that for a little while then we'll throw it on the pallet and then the customer can come get it well that's it for this video thank you for watching stay tuned for the next one
