Some cartridges just deserve an award. Hi, I'm Larry Potterfield with MidwayUSA. Let's chamber another round in the cartridge Hall of Fame. Winchester introduced the 270 Winchester Centerfire in 1925. It was first chambered in the model 54 bolt-action rifle. The 270 is considered a medium power cartridge generating over 2,700 foot-pounds of energy with typical factory loads. First dubbed the 270 WCF or Winchester Centerfire we refer to it today as the 270 Winchester or simply the 270. Based off the 30-06 family of cases the cartridge is of a rimless bottlenecked design the shoulder being used to control headspace. While introduced in the Winchester Model 54. The 270 was made famous by the late Jack O'Connor and the Winchester Model 70. Ammunition is currently available with bullet weights from 90 to 160 grains. The most common load being a 130 grain bullet loaded to around 3,000 feet per second. Today the 270 Winchester is one of our most popular hunting  cartridges and it's chambered by nearly all gun companies. After nearly 75 years it's still one of the top-selling centerfire rifle cartridges available today and the 270 Winchester shows no signs of slowing down. Clearly a member of the cartridge Hall of Fame. I'm Larry Potterfield with MidwayUSA and that's the way it is.
