so last time i made a three-month review of my carte santos medium and i have a lot of unanswered questions that i get asked all the time so for my one-year anniversary of owning this watch now i'm gonna answer those questions all right so the first question is how easily does your cartier santos scratch it scratches easily the most scratch magnet area everyone talks about is obviously the polished square bezel that is gonna scratch the first moment you put it on your wrist and you're just gonna have to kind of accept that when i first got this watch the first week i had it i was super careful with it but i still ended up with a scratch somewhere it could have easily been anywhere like from sticking my hand in my pocket because sometimes you don't know your clothing can have like lint or dust and scratch the watch if you're gonna get this watch you have to be okay with it getting scratched up because that's just the way it's meant to be worn the other areas that it's scratched up for me are on the bracelet which i'm usually pretty careful on the bracelet because if i'm like doing computer work i usually don't rest my bracelet on the table or i'll just take off my watch entirely so the bracelet area is pretty good for me it's usually just the bezel but besides that like all the little hairline scratches i usually don't see them unless they're in like bright harsh sunlight like overcast lighting or like white lighting i usually don't see it dim lighting i don't usually see it so the scratches don't really really bother me because of that but if that's something of really big concern for you then you know the large version the adlc version might be good or just like an alternative watch if there's one thing you could change about the cartier santos what would that be i guess the only thing i would change is it would be nice if there was a micro adjustment in the bracelet because the way i size my bracelet is i always leave the six o'clock side a little bit shorter than the 12 o'clock side that way if i'm looking at the time the watch is going to hang facing me more if the 12 o'clock side is shorter the watch will hang a little above which will look a little weird something i notice about this watch is that it's so lightweight i actually weighed it and it's lighter than the xenothefi titanium so a cartier santos medium and steel lighter than the zenith titanium it's like you have a titanium watch at a smaller case size so the only thing i would really change add a micro adjustment that way you can pretty much size it a little bit better i'm sure that would help a lot of people the only other thing i wish i wish that the skeleton version from the large was in the medium because then i think i would have both the skeleton and the classic medium with the white dial how do you clean your carte santos so i use this watch and jewelry cleaner oh so i use this watch and jewelry cleaner from cartier that has a cloth a brush and a solution for cleaning the bracelet but if you don't have this you can just use an old toothbrush a soft cloth and then also a soap with no detergent or no chemicals like just a clear soap and basically what i'll do is i'll remove the bracelet and then i'll spray the solution all over the bracelet and i'll use that brush to clean in between the links usually in between the links is where dirt and hand sweat gets stuck and then i leave that for about three minutes and then i take the case make sure the crown is pushed in and then just turn on some like cool water and just rinse the top of the case if you're really worried about like scratching the bezel while you're cleaning it you can use like these disposable task wipers so that way they never really have lint on it because you just use it to wipe the top of the case and then when you're done with it you can just throw out the task wiper i'll link it down below but then i also use the brush to just kind of clean the sides of the case the more brush areas and then after the bracelet's been soaking for about three minutes i've rinsed that with cool water and then i just use the brush one more time to just clean out any little areas and then the bracelet will look a lot shinier and then i strap it back onto the case and that's about it can you buy a new bezel my guess is that it's probably doable but i don't have a clear confirmation for that what i plan to do is when my watch needs a service maybe five six years down the road when i send it into carte i will request a polishing and usually carte does a light refinishing on the watches when they service them anyways so i can just request if they can polish the bezel and see what the options are available then but anyways every time you polish your watch you're basically removing a layer of metal so i don't recommend polishing your bezel like every month or polishing your watch in general every month because you're going to just like end up with a lot less metal on your watch so i am going to be very specific about when i want to polish it and i only want to polish it through cartier since they're the ones that are authorized and make sure that it's you know to factory specs what are some alternatives to the cartier santos this is a great question from the bezel question because if the bezel is like the biggest concern for you here's some good alternative so in carte family you can obviously go for the cartier large if that fits you the adlc version you can do the all black version because those bezels are more brush finish in 2022 there's two new versions there's a blue bezel blue dial and then a white dial blue bezel so those bezels are also less scratch resistant but they will still scratch overall because none of them are in ceramic but before i got my santos i had some other contenders but the biggest contender for sure was the omega aquaterra 38 millimeter when it came down to the decision if i was going to get the aquaterra or the santos for me the santos won just because of the design and i like that it had no date as well obviously what i really love about the omega is that it has loom on it it has 150 meter water resistance with a screw down crown and it has a sick master chronometer movement that's anti-magnetic so that to me is like a perfect all-rounder watch a go anywhere do anything watch but the santos i never had a watch that was just as known for its bracelet as it was known for its style or its case and i just felt like the entire package of the santos was better fit for my lifestyle and anyways both of those watches fit go anywhere do anything it's that one watch collection if you only had one watch that would pretty much satisfy all the scenarios you get yourself into i already have the cartier tank should i still get the cartier santos the answer is still going to depend on you and what you need in your collection but if you think about it this way in the current cartier catalog there's not a lot of watches that have a hundred meter water resistance the carte santos medium and large are one of the few watches that do that so if you like the cartier tank the design the you know rectangular shape and the dial but you want something you can actually like we can wear in the water or like you don't have to take off if you're like hanging out at the beach or whatever that's where i think the cartier santos really shines what are your thoughts on the cartier santos large versus the medium so i specifically chose the medium because my wrist size is about 6.4 inches and even though the medium on paper says 35.1 millimeters with the bracelet it actually wears more like a 38 millimeter watch and that's usually my sweet size but when you look at the large case the large says it's a 40 millimeter usually i can wear a 40 millimeter no problem you know a square versus a circle square okay it's not really the same size but you get the idea like a square is going to wear larger on the wrist have more presence so the large version wears more like a 42 millimeter which for me where it's too big i think if your wrist is at least seven inches then the large version is probably going to work fine for you i like the medium size because it's a lot more charming it's a lot more discreet and it has a lot of presence even while it's small just because of the way the bracelet and the case all kind of come together what's your favorite strap combo so about 90 percent of the time i'm actually wearing the cartier santos on the bracelet but when i do put on straps i love putting it on a gray alligator it's that's a oem from cartier the dark grey alligator just always works great like if you're wearing a suit i want it to weddings and it looks great and then i also like to use the lugs gray nubuck strap that's like a gray suede material that one also looks great the reason i love the gray straps the most is just because it kind of simulates the look of the bracelet the same neutral tone but besides that my other favorite strap color wise is actually the green alligator that green alligator just really pops on the wrist and i think it looks great oh and to follow up that question where can you buy other cartier straps so deluxe has a whole custom program for making cardiac straps he's been able to integrate the same system because cartier has that quick switch system the lux was able to find a similar system and fit them perfectly on top of that you can also go to your nearest cartier boutique and you can order alligator or calfskin straps directly there as well so here's my final closing thoughts one year later with the cartier santos so after i bought this watch every time i've been thinking about buying a new watch after this my the first question i always ask myself is am i going to wear this new watch more than the cartier santos and it saved me a lot of money because i have to say no most of the time i would say no i'm not going to wear it more to cartier santos so if there's another daily watch i'm like well this already does it all so maybe now i'm going to focus on just going for a diver or chrono or a dress watch like something that's just completely different it's actually made me like complication watches more now because i'm so used to just seeing the no date and i've tried to look for other watches even in higher price points that would replace the cartier santos and i still feel like the cartier santos just it does so much for its value like under ten thousand dollars one of the best designs original design from cartier first wristwatch watch it's a pilot's watch it's so clean and it has that look of an integrated bracelet watch it's just that perfect one watch collection that's all i can say
