Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
you always could tell when this show was gonna drop some hard shit, everything gets all quiet and tense, then will drops his smirk and gets all righteous
I admire that they chose to end the episode with that powerful message and not to leave the episode on a forced optimistic note.
I just love that Will backed up Carlton, despite the fact that most of the show is Will poking fun at C.
Really funny show, but at the same the realest show you could ever watch.
i like the asshole that turns the music off when theres gonna be a confrontation
Shout out to Uncle Phil! Rest in Peace
Holy shit I forgot how some of these episodes just end abruptly on a down note like that. Relevant indeed.
Great find. One of my "things" is that I am the whitest black guy ever. I cant dance. I love hockey. Heck my favourite band in high school was Blink 182. And I even sound white. Its all fun and games and I enjoy joking around with it. But I have met a handful of black people who actually think I am so some sort of traitor because I dont act...talk...whatever a certain way. I guess my mother never read me the "How to be a black guy" handbook. But that doesn't make me any less black. EDIT Since a lot of people asked why I refered to myself as the whitest black guy ever. I have added the response I gave someone else here as well. know I am, you are correct. The stereotype will always exist. Just like phrases like Acting like a girl, or Be A Man will also always exist. I guess the point I was trying to make isn't that it is a necessarily a horrible thing that people say I am White acting. The problem is when other Black people actively think less of me, or discredit my opinion based solely on the idea that I don't act black enough. As if there is some threshold I have to meet to really understand the "Black Experience". During discussions with some people (of various races) about racism and hate crimes etc...I have had people actually say to me...Ya but you're basically White man..You wont have problems.... In my 29 years on this planet I have only had one encounter with some racists (skinheads/ neonazis) where I feared for my physical safety. I wasnt too white for them.
Such a great show
It is an absolute shame that they're doing a fresh prince reboot instead of a sequel.
Carlton may have been his own character but that character's dream was growing up to be like his dad and making him proud. With that actor dead (RIP) it would be more relevant than ever to see Carlton be the father now with his own family of 3 kids and trying to raise a nephew with the values his father taught him.
Just replace fat jokes with short jokes and the series half writes itself.
Pay attention, Will.
EDIT: My fresh prince sequel pitch.
Carlton has become a successful investor in the tech industry (or has studied law and became a judge like uncle Phil), married a Princeton graduate and had 3 kids. Ashley moved to NYC with Hillary and after a few incidents in Harlem decided her son can't stay there anymore and asks Carlton and his wife to take care of him in Bel Aire.
Carlton's nephew is loud, rambunctious and crude with witty quips and little knowledge of a world without a subway and people with clothes nicer than cars in his old Harlem neighborhood grounds. He starts to feel homesick when cousin Will stops by, gives him a pep talk that ends when a cute teen walks by and Will looks at the new prince of Belair saying "and that helps. A LOT. Plus you get a chance to grow up in a good spot which not everyone gets to do. Take a look at your Uncle Carl, dude haven't grown since he was 8 years old, man."
Edit 2: thanks for the upvotes! Here's more to add to get a new show with the old series vibe:
Remember how Vivian and her sisters always dance in circles when they visited with Hillary and Ashley? New circle: Hillary, Ashley, Carlton's wife (let's call her Penelope or Aunt Pen) and Carlton's daughter's are the new circle.
Chazz is a music mogul and it drives Carlton mad. He makes cameos time to time.
Carlton has 2 daughters and 1 son. As a total switch up, his son is very tall and looks athletic but instead focuses on school and not great at sports at all. The joke with him is that he's a Giant Mini Carlton. Hillary constantly makes jokes in her cameos that he obviously got his height from his mother (which drives Aunt Pen mad). The oldest daughter is a social media queen, a 2K15 Hillary. The youngest daughter is like Ashley and like the little sister you want to protect to the new fresh prince. Reminds him a lot of his mom.
Penelope is an esteemed professor at the University (same school Will and Carlton went to). Keeps up the educated mother from the original series and a wonderful source of lessons for the kids and supportive of Carlton.
Carlton is a mix of who he was and Uncle Phil. He is going to be a great source of laughter but will be the powerful father figure the new Fresh Prince has been missing. I demand an episode where he shows up for an event for father's and sons to cement that relationship for his son and the new fresh prince.
And Will? Will will appear time to time. He's become an Agent in LA and will be how a lot of celebrities make cameos. And Carlton's 2nd biggest source of headaches.
The new fresh prince? Fuck that, sign me NBC and maybe I'll tell you how to print money.
Edit 3: Ok guys, for all the love I'll give you the clencher: the uncle Phil dedication episode.
The kids and the fresh prince get into trouble. Like they could have been seriously hurt dumb trouble. Carlton's son tries to defend the others and Carlton stops him. He looks at them all and yells that they might be kids but they have the responsibility to think about their families, their parents, who would literally lose their minds if they should ever get hurt or worse and they need to use their damn heads before they act. They have all this money and it means NOT A DAMN THING if just one of them is lost. Now get to your rooms and think about how you're going to be smarter every damn day going forward. The kids leave. Aunt Pen is on the couch quiet. Carlton looks at her "...have I failed? Did I lose them? Was it too much?" Penelope shakes her head no but before she can speak her breathe is stolen away in shock. Carlton turns around to see what it was to see Vivian in tears. He goes pale wondering if he failed in front of his mother. He stutters "M-mom I-"
"Thank you. Thank you Carlton."
Carlton stands there. Confused.
"...you let me hear your father...and his greatest work, once again" Vivian sobs. Carlton is starting to break when Vivian grabs him and they hold each other as she sobs. Carlton silently sheds a tear and closes his eyes. The camera pans over to a photo of his father Phillip on the table as Penelope rushes to them.
Screen fades to black. Credits.
How many tears did I get out of you all just now?
