horses actually freer it keeps them easy and the change overs and maybe like a week before the test when we know that's coming up and we start running each other through our tests and working on the details of how to ride the test then we would put it back into the Grand Prix so you know maybe other strokes to be easier and the difference here would be that then if tour went straight down the middle he already now has a right shoulder in or should have more of a right shoulder in to make it the horse able to do a flying change that's the idea of it and yep when you want to make the flying change good when you want to give the fly and change expression you know you need to almost have a new inside flexion so the horse is softer the way he's going to change so here we have the neck ear and then you stay in a left shoulder and tour and allow the horse to change almost in the left shoulder in so it takes the shoulders lever and you see it just gives the most that lovely bit of softness already in there in that direction we need more front first more front more front more fat arrive at P this time let's make it a little bit shorter for him and then the right shoulder in the right shoulder in release the change and again the same thing the other way k2r the leg you so this is all preparation for building up to the ground prison exactly now what you need to do is just like moving more sideways at the beginning so that you think after the change for him Zucco's so the left shoulder in again forward in the change and if we do on the long side now just a half pass in perhaps five six strides straight shoulder in right show up waiting exercise and now go shoulder and right shoulder in so the ring when he's waiting change and then your half comes back half passed out will do leg yield in shoulder and right flying change leg your back because so straight first wait wait he changes he waits and now the leg yield over stays in the shoulder in and he changes and we do the same again so it's not I'm not worried about how many strides I'm interested in the change over and the fact that the horse weights before you go to the left so shoulder in right you change and he stays in shoulder and right stays in it and now half pass away you go yeah and the shoulder in left again yeah so we need that change a bit more forward but that's a little bit rider over there he's doing it in the corner so it doesn't encourage the horse to jump forward though the half past weakest he has good Bend in the half shoulder in and make sure that he doesn't go sideways when he lands and now away you go good alright and this is all because obviously what do you do when the boss gets you cannot do the same movement everyday everyday everyday doing I like Ron free now I've got to do zig-zag three six six six three because if you do that every day obviously the horse is then going to start anticipating because they start learning it so these sort of exercises where he wakes and he waits for the rider to say and sideways so if we now on the long side do circle and then go up the long side and do six six six sticks off the wall you do that my hopes that all you can't go robbery okay so let's just sit let's see what he does first of all we'll do it tall style first here [Music] so what was life that all gave us the confidence because his counting was very good he can count to six but what he needs to do is thing false right so one straight straight change as the land he must go sideways before the change he must go straight whereas he does literally half past 1/2 faster Harper so the horse then will start to lose a little bit of quality in his flying change because he's then thinking I've got to jump sideways in it so particularly from where you at are at the moment for over straight change sideways immediately for over straight change again from H down the long side let's have a look two three four straight change you're doing four six is now okay four sixes but only full stride sideways in each of your zigs zags do you know what I mean now you're going to do for loss of six the same as before but instead of going six stride sideways and then change you go for straight side whereas you do one stride straight and then you change so that we get a better quality in your flying change where you can ride more uphill three four straight change over two three four straight change missed okay now why did you miss apart from the fact that we obviously can see it again you didn't control the horse really goes to the left very easily and the horse doesn't go to the right so we make up a lot of ground this way and no ground that way and of course it was like while I'm not on the wall so a little bit more collected to the left and land with the front going to the right to help you go sideways on your first ride one two three four straight over okay so that is where his problem is all right to the left new land and go sideways to the right you go straight over three four straight change exactly alright do it a few times till it gets like part of your way of going but it's each time you land on the right leg the horse goes straight for two strides Oh straight change missed full strength change Oh better on the last one so you're counting is going over there we have a chocolate box there so again two three okay now wait now wait just making go over that's it you know what I want you to do I now want you to do your zigzags in leg yielding and not half pass because that will help you get him more off your outside leg so do your zigzags again for sixes but let you not half as let go yeah straight front that's a seven straight change-o leg guilty yeah you see leg you think I'll make him a little bit looser it'll stop him slowing down the half past slows him down alright do it again for lots of leg he'll try and ride sixes and take the front to the right the front three four straight release the front full strike release the front yeah straight [Applause] so it isn't just give them a break a minute offer it is not all about doing Grand Prix and like I said let's say you get your horse if everything went well and let's say your horse gets to Grand Prix at 10 years old you know what are you going to do for the next seven or eight years like I said we can't just keep training Grand Prix movements you know I was at home work four days a week in an arena they hack two days a week and they all go in the field over there they all go out and do he'll work and stuff you know I don't think it's beneficial to be doing six or seven days a week of dressers I mean it bores most of us what does it do to that yeah they have to do you don't have to do it like that you know it's got to be kept fresh when they know the movement they need exercises then let help them stay easy in their movements so making it a exact is easier than half past exact pirouettes that are working pirouettes to the small pirouettes and not always up and down the center line PF that sometimes on the squats sometimes very forward and we're going to do an exercise now we'll do a little bit of pass out first and I just want to see or show you how we can start to work on getting great transitions from Kiev depressors so if you just to help it warm-up tour just a little bit truck let's earth drop ourselves let's have a look at what his Paso this also stazon up like he again is quite a young horse coming to Grand Prix so he doesn't have like the full strength yet to do it you know as you would expect to see international grown from here so again so we can see that trial at looser in your race moves to render breaks that's it think of moving the bit letting go rather than hold and move it let go that's it so they sitting just touching and touching touching touching and now forward again that's it so we can again you know tour the the the minute he starts to lucid in your hand he starts to find suspension so I mean you have to try still to get your half hearts through to the horse more alright don't let it you know don't get used to the fact that you ride him and you hold him in it loosen him loosen the reins yeah loosen the reins loosen the Ray has to stay there without running forward yeah yeah that's it let the reins looser looser that's at usual flexions to help you because he is a standard they do get strongly neck and he does need to learn to carry his neck unlighted right yeah and forward again the other thing I would do is come on the center and then try and make a little bit of passage and leggy or didn't pass out so that again will stop him pulling forward so let you out a little bit to the right and slow and slow down loosen your hand loosen your hand that's it so let him try a little bit let it trail there we've netted trail over yeah so well you can see I'm a leggy infinitive yeah love it try loving can't even pass ours but it's basically because I know it's helping me Lego is helping the horses let go and you know it's it's useful to use and in passage as well it's stopping this horse because this was just was to pull forward so you know if he does it a little bit sideways it'll stop the horse pointing forward so it's fine that's it you can really let him trail because it's not easy to do it yeah that let go back let go let the reins move that's right move your fingers release it and now short me in there and shorten him and they'll touch him he needs to come under not push away from you and and there we go there we go good good so to get from pass - to pay a centerline centerline do it again make your way over to the right to get from the passage to the pass if you've got a pass ours that's huge then it's impossible to make a really nice transition you've got to try and be able to regulate it and especially these young you know it's not about having this amazing pass as we need a small light quick as so so that you think tour one step of passage on the spot one step on the spot and act so we just call it we call it what step so basically the all-stars is we bring him back he learns to do one step of passage on the spot and then we go forward back one step apart and go out again nice yeah do your one step on the wall do your leg you know to have giving more off your hand you too much Porter's when you go over all right it makes it your life a bit difficult yeah so now see if you can find one step touch and out that's it because this horse still needs to get stronger so can you see that doing loads of PF isn't the answer it's teaching him to get stronger in his transition Paso sideways over let the reins move well that's it the reins move wait there we go and now but with a loose man you have to have the reins loose bring it back and this is a stop and this is a passage he has to join up all together and it's really important that you start you know joining it together just threw that one transition on the spot and now the one transition and now and you know they're that way the quarter wants to keep going and you've got to be able to do that transition with a drop train and that's what's difficult at the moment
